Medarot Console Games Aren’t Happening Anytime Soon
January 7, 2020 4:42 PM EST
Medarot won’t come back to consoles anytime soon, according to a 4Gamer interview with Imagineer’s Unoue, the current key person of the franchise.
4Gamer published an interview with Unoue of Imagineer, the company publishing Medarot games. Unoue has been working at Imagineer since Medarot 2 released on Game Boy Color in 1999, and he’s the sole staff member who stayed at Imagineer until now. Unoue was the public relations manager from Medarot 2 to Medarot 5, and he’s now the key person regarding the Medarot franchise at Imagineer. As such, the interview works as a retrospective on the Medarot franchise and is extremely long, with 4Gamer’s journalist Marimera being a huge Medarot fan too, sharing her enthusiasm with Unoue. It’s pretty interesting to read if you’re a fan of stag beetle medal mecha fighting each other. Well, assuming you can understand Japanese.
Near the end of the interview, 4Gamer’s journalist Marimera asked Unoue if he wishes to make a new Medarot console game one day. He answered that he’s aware many fans wish to play a Medarot game on PS4, and how he agrees on how fun that would be. He mentioned how making a console Medarot game with current technology would definitely result in a smooth game. Unlike Medarot R on PS1, whose game flow was interrupted all the time by long loadings.
Unoue was also asked about a possible VR Medarot game, and he answered that it’s a waste that a series with so many cool mecha designs doesn’t have a VR game, but again heavily implied it’s not in the works. He jokingly said he wishes someone stepped up and made such a Medarot VR game.
While the interview never flat out denies the possibility of a new Medarot console game, the whole interview and Unoue’s tone only points toward the direction that nothing is coming anytime soon. Else I would have titled this story “Medarot New Console Games Teased”. Unoue also mentioned the fact that Imagineer stopped doing console games and decided to focus on mobile games now. And how everyone who worked on the old Medarot games at Imagineer left the company by now, and he’s the sole person who stayed behind. His experience with Medarot and his love for the franchise made him stay, and he hopes one day they might be able to do “something” again, but he doesn’t know what form it’ll take and if that day will ever come.
Medarot is the Japanese name of the Medabots mecha + RPG franchise. Medarot S, a new game for iOS and Android, is launching in Japan on January 23. The game is developed by SoWhat, a subsidiary of Imagineer. Medarot S‘ chances of leaving Japan are next to zero. You can check it out with its trailer below. Medarot S features new cute characters Arase Osumi and Hisaki Kaguya, along with the protagonists of the past games.
The latest console games in the franchise are Medarot 9, which launched in 2015 on Nintendo 3DS. It was followed by Medarot Girls Mission in 2016 still on 3DS, a spinoff that featured a lot of sexual fanservice compared to the rest of the franchise. The last game was Medarot Classics on 3DS in 2017, a compilation of Medarot 1 to 5 with new elements, such as online functionalities.

We’ve already seen the blurry camera shots and the official preview, but now we have clean scans of Famitsu’s Medarot: Girls Mission coverage.
Click the images to see a bigger view:

As previously stated, the game is an action spinoff similar to Medarot Dual. Various attacks are mapped to the A-B-X-Y face buttons on the 3DS. While you’ve got full control over your Medarot, win conditions are still the same: either incapacitate the competition or inflict the most damage. You’ll be able to do this through the game’s extensive customization features. Over 100 Medarot will be featured in the game, all allowing you to swap arms, legs heads, etc. You’ll earn them by competing in the game’s various battles, including 2-on-2 ones.
Following in the footsteps of every prior handheld game in the series, Girls Mission will be sold in both Kabuto and Kuwagata releases. Unlike every game in the series, there appears to be a major difference between the two in story. Kabuto stars Minori Hojo (voiced by Ibuki Kido), a student of Joyou Agricultural High School. Kuwagata has Megumi Kaido (voiced by Aya Suzaki) from Teikou High School. Their Medarot companions will naturally be Metabee and Rokusho, respectively. Both will compete alongside other girls to win the Artemis Cup tournament.
While players won’t be able to control their partner in 2-on-2 battles, battling together will grow the bond between both Medarot and Medarotters. Ultimately players will grow stronger.
Medarot: Girls Mission features over 20 female characters and here’s the ones Famitsu is previewing:
Minori Hojo with Metabee (Voice Actress: Ibuki Kido)
Megumi Kaido with Rokusho (Voice Actress: Aya Suzaki)
Mizuho Tanigawa with Pom-Pom Mates (Voice Actress: Saki Ogasawara) – Kabuto exclusive (Minori’s buddy)
Tsubasa Nanahoshi with Peppercat (Voice Actress: Ayane Sakura)
Ichiko Tsurugi with Bluesdog (Voice Actress: Sarah Emi Bridcutt)
Riko Sakata with Mad Juggler (Voice Actress: Minami Fujii)
Sakura Gotou with Kanehachi Mk.2 (Voice Acress: Shiki Aoki)
Shouko Shiratori with Daichanko (Voice Actress: Yuu Asakawa)
Koi Nishikino with Gokudo (Voice Actress: Mari Shiraishi)
Shikkoku no Yami (Pitch-Black Darkness) with Minerva (Voice Actress: Eriko Nakamura)
Asumi Naruko with Nin-Ninja (Voice Actress: Kana Asumi)
Sayuri Kunishiro with Scimitar Tooth (Voice Actress: Rina Kitagawa)
Kiyomi Shigeno with Topgunner (Voice Actress: Hiromi Igarashi)
Kei Musumi with Steinberga (Voice Actress: Nao Toyama)
Yuri Yasuragi with Brunhild (Voice Actress: Sayaka Gomi)
Arisu Tsuchimikado with Arachnospider (Voice Actress: Ai Kakuma)
Shizuka Minamoto with Samurai (Voice Actress: Lynn)
Laura Bartley with Whipworld (Voice Actress: Ayumi Fujimura)
Ran Suzukaze with Barbe Bleue (Voice Actress: Yuu Kobayashi)
Toki Asou with Roll beauty (Voice Actress: Izumi Chiba) – Kuwagata exclusive (Megumi’s childhood friend)
Robot designs will once again be handled by series regular Horuma Rin. The girls will be designed by Sai Izumi.
The game will feature local and online multiplayer. Players can go through the game’s story as a co-op mode will be available. Up to four players can compete in local battles, but online will be limited to just two. You’ll be able to go up against your friends as well people you don’t know.
A radio program hosted by Ibuki Kido and Aya Suzaki will begin on Ulta A&G+ on January 10th between 18:30 – 19:00 JST. Medarot: Girls Mission: Radio High School will reflect on the series thus far and chat about other things.
Medarot: Girls Mission is set for release on March 10, 2016 in Japan for 5800 yen. Development is currently at 90% completion. In a franchise first, the game has received a C (ages 15+) rating from CERO.

Following leaks from this week’s issue, Famitsu and Rocket Company have officially announced Medarot: Girls Mission. The magazine’s website is currently hosting an article preview alongside our first look at the game itself:
The previews reiterate that it’s a dramatic action game where over 20 girls will compete to win the Artemis Cup.
Girls Mission will launch in the traditional Kabuto Ver. and Kuwagata Ver. format. Unlike prior entries, however, is that there will be a noticeable difference between releases. Alongside a different Medarot, you will play as a different character in a different story. Those buying the Kabuto Ver. will be treated to a setting in Joyou Agricultural High School, while Kuwagata players will see a tale told in Teikou High School.
#gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 25%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Combat is also briefly touched upon. Abilities are mapped out to the A, B, X and Y buttons on the 3DS, and victory is once again achieved by incapacitating your opponents. 2-on-2 battles will see you team up with one of the other girls. While you can’t control your ally’s Medarot, battling together will grow the bond between both Medarot and Medarotters.
Medarot: Girls Mission is set for release on March 10, 2016 in Japan for 5800 yen (+tax) on Nintendo 3DS. Development is currently at 90% completion. The game is rated CERO C (ages 15+), a first for the franchise.

Despite Medarot 9 having just launched on December 26, 2015, Rocket Company aren’t taking anytime off. This week’s Famitsu will announce Medarot: Girls Mission, a new action game for Nintendo 3DS. As the name implies, the game will be focused on female characters. Over 20 of them, in fact, as they compete to win the Artemis Cup.
The game will be released in both Kabuto and Kuwagata versions, but unlike many Medarot games, it looks like there will be a significant difference between releases. The lineup of girls and robots will vary, with the main character being from an agricultural high school in Kabuto, and a drama (?) school in Kuwagata.
Similar to Medarot Dual, 2-on-2 team battles will be available. Multiplayer will consist of four players local, and two players online. Throughout game play, you’ll be able to grow closer to you Medarot, increasing strength for both of you.
A radio program will be broadcast on January 10. Naturally, you’ve got to have voice actors for that, so here’s the cast of Medarot: Girls Mission:
– Ibuki Kido – Aya Suzaki – Saki Ogasawara – Ayane Sakura – Sarah Emi Bridcutt – Minami Fujii – Aoki Shiki – Yuu Asakawa – Mari Shiraishi – Eriko Nakamura – Kana Asumi – Rina Kitagawa – Hiromi Igarashi – Nao Toyama – Sayaka Gomi (?) – Ai Kakuma – Lynn – Ayumi Fujimura – Yuu Kobayashi – Izumi Chiba
Robot designs will once again be handled by series regular Horuma Rin. The girls will be designed by Chain Chronicle‘s Aya Izumi.
Medarot: Girls Mission is set for release on March 10, 2016 in Japan for 5800 yen. Development is currently at 90% completion. The game’s expected to receive a CERO C (ages 15+) rating, which is a first for the franchise.
