I'm used to the male love interests being shitty and misogynistic in. oh god. I was going to say '90s anime' but it's really like, everything isn't it. at least in BLs if they're homophobic to each other you know it's like an internalized thing and it's something to hopefully work on for both their sakes. many GLs directly confront misogyny and lesbophobia, and they're ABOUT women. but like, especially recently, there IS plenty of anime, even older anime, where male love interests DON'T act like this - sorry to invoke fucking ouran but even in like 2003 (?) tamaki suoh was kind of weird for sure but he and haruhi had a genuine friendship and I actually enjoyed their relationship. at the very least he ENGAGED with her as a person. EDIT: ASHITAKA AND SAN. I just had to look at my icon lol. it's just like??? this came out like 2 years ago to widespread acclaim and multiple ppl in my mutual circle have spoken highly of it so am I the only one seeing this? am I too sensitive??
