Female folk wear from Croatia circa 1920
Ceremonial reconstructed folk costume
This beautiful costume was made in 2020, according to the 1920 pattern. Completely handmade, it comes from the Turčišće area, using homemade woven linen and richly hand-embroidered details on the sleeves of the shirt (opleče, pleček) and along the skirt (kiklja, kikla, robača). The scarf (robe, Tibet) in green is decorated with hand-embroidered flowers and silk tassels (štranclini). This type of costume bears traces of similarities with costumes in Slovenia, especially in areas where emigrants from Međimurje are located.

Želimo vam i mi i zdravlja i sreće i ljubavi no želimo vam i još nešto…

I so desperately wish this was in a group chat so I could say [Croatian, kajkavski dialect, specifically from a certain part near the border between Međimurje and Varaždin County]:
"Dobri den"
#(this dialect draws a lot from; Hungarian Slovenian German and a tiny bit of Turkish)#speaking of the kajkavski dialect#or dialects in general#of the three main ones each has many sub-dialects and it's really funny to me#just in kajkavski within the range of a dozen or so neighboring villages you can find three different words for corn cobs#i can literally say “good day” in like five sort of different ways

Tradicional dress from Croatia
CEREMONIAL RECONSTRUCTED NATIONAL COSTUME FROM 1940
This beautiful reconstructed costume comes from Gornji Kraljevec, made with a lot of love and attention to tradition. A marquise shirt, with beautifully embroidered sleeves, along with a luxurious skirt, makes this costume a true jewel of our cultural heritage, A scarf was worn on the shoulders, while young girls braided their hair into braids, and older women wore a headdress. Special attention was paid to details in order to preserve the originality of the costume. It is interesting that research has revealed similarities with the costumes in Slovenia, especially in the areas where the emigrants from Međimurje lived.
