Little Blip
So, this came to mind today as I was eating breakfast. Anyone who’s a fan of a certain book series that I absolutely love will get the numerous references in this (I’m not going to say what it is but if you know what I’m talking about and you also happen to be a fan then feel free to message me and talk about it hehe). To be honest Woohyun’s fatherly side is one of my most favourite things about him. Hence the numerous fics I’ve written about him involving a child. As I mentioned above this story is inspired by wherever my subtle references are from :3 Hope you guys enjoy!

- Nas
“Shit.”
You took another look at the five tests spread out in front of you. You had hoped that at least one of them had a different outcome so that there would be a chance that it was all a fluke. Unfortunately, all five of them revealed the exact same thing – positive. Now, if this were a behavioural or even academic test you would be elated about the results. The reason why you’re feeling like this is because, they’re pregnancy tests.
“Shit, shit, shit!” you cursed yourself over and over again.
Truth be told, you had had a feeling that something was going on about a week ago. Throughout your entire life, you had never been late – even for a day. Your period arrived on that specific date every single month. You had been avoiding the truth for an entire week until you finally gathered up the courage to go to a pharmacy and pick up five pregnancy tests. And so here you are, incredibly terrified and at a loss for words.
It wasn’t as if you were too young. Hell, you graduated from college and had a steady job – so steady that you could confidently raise this child without any economic difficulty. But you knew the one thing that made you hesitate about being happy; Woohyun.
You placed both your palms over your eyes and sighed heavily, how were you supposed to tell him? This would ruin his career. The two of you should have been more careful. You knew exactly when this child was conceived. Around three weeks ago, Woohyun had come back after months of being away and it was safe to say that the two of you were so distracted that being careful was definitely forgotten.
“Hey,” you heard your roommate knock on the door, “you okay? You’ve been in there forever.”
You reached up towards the handle and opened the door. Pointing towards the sink, you looked up at her, “How the hell am I supposed to tell him?”
She inhaled sharply, “Oh God. Shit, girl.”
“I know.” You shook your head and looked up towards the sky, partly asking God for help.
She sat down next to you, “You’re keeping it, right?”
“You know I have to.”
“But you’re not obligated to. I mean-”
“No,” you bit your lip, “I have to keep it. This is my child.”
Sighing, she placed her hand over yours, “Truth be told this child is as much his as it is yours. You have to tell him if you’re keeping it.”
“I know that but I just, what if he leaves me?” a tear managed to escape from the corner of your eye.
“He won’t,” she said as she held you, “I know Woohyun. He loves you more than anything in this world. I know you’re worried that he’ll choose his career over this but he won’t.”
You scoffed, “You don’t know that.”
“Oh yes, I do. I’ve seen how he is with you – he’d give up his life for you so I’m pretty sure he’d be up to having a child with you.”
You could only close your eyes and pray that she was right.
…
Three days had passed and you still had not said anything to Woohyun. Today was going to be the day though, you knew it. Being alone for the past few days made it easier to avoid the topic. But today, you made him a promise that you were going to spend the entire day over at his house, meaning that he’d actually have to see your face. Woohyun knew you like the back of his palm, he’d realize that something was bothering you in the span of a minute.
“Hey, beautiful?”
“Hmm?” you cocked your head up, signalling a yes.
Woohyun studied your expression, “What’s bothering you?”
You couldn’t help but smile, see?
“I just have a lot on my mind.”
He smiled and shrugged off the oven gloves he had been wearing a couple of seconds ago. Woohyun was baking your all-time favourite, peanut butter cookies. He walked around the counter and sat himself on the stool next to you.
He held your chin in his hands, “Tell me.”
“Well,” you cleared your throat, “on a scale of 1-10, how financially stable are you right now?”
Woohyun burst out laughing, “What?”
“I’m serious!”
He smiled and shook his head, “I’d say I’m in a pretty good spot right now.”
“Okay. Now, on a scale of 1-10, how much do you love your career?”
“Are you my girlfriend or my accountant?”
You groaned, “Just answer the question, Woohyun.”
He raised an eyebrow, where exactly where you going with this?
“You planning on proposing to me or something? Because if you do, this isn’t the most romantic proposal, sweetheart.” He chuckled.
Sighing, you looked away from him, “You know what, forget it.”
“Hey, hey,” he pulled his stool closer towards yours, “I was joking. Can you please tell me what’s really going on? I know you, and I know this isn’t simply about me or my career.”
You felt his fingers entwine with yours but you couldn’t bring yourself to look him in the eye, “I’m scared.”
“Don’t be. What is it, baby?”
“Woohyun, I-I-”
“Just spit it out, no hesitating.”
“For God’s sakes, I’m pregnant!”
Woohyun stilled. He had to replay the words you just said over and over again in his mind. You were pregnant. You were pregnant? In the blink of an eye he recalled all the times he had slept with you over the past couple of months. There was no way-oh wait, there was that one night.
He stuttered a couple of times prior to getting the words out, “How long have you known?”
“I took five pregnancy tests three days ago. But I sorta had a feeling when my period didn’t come last week.”
“Five,” he let out a breathy laugh, “wow.”
You closed your eyes and savoured the feeling of his hand in yours. This might be the very last time you get to enjoy it.
“You don’t have to be involved, if you don’t want to.”
“Excuse me?”
You shrugged, “You’re not obligated to stay with me throughout this.”
Woohyun looked at you as if you were out of your mind, “What makes you think I don’t want anything to do with this?”
“I mean, you’re a singer, Woohyun.” You looked at him with tears, “I don’t want you to have to choose between your career or this and I know how much potential you have and I just, I don’t want you to look at me in ten years with regret.”
He could hardly process what was happening at that moment. All he knew was that there was no way he was going to let you go through this alone.
“Look at me,” he lifted you off your seat and into his lap when you didn’t respond, “baby, look at me.
Looking into his eyes, you felt his thumb reach up and wipe your tears, “I don’t know where you got the idea that I would leave you because of this but I want you to know that you are borderline insane if you think I’d leave you.”
“Woohyun we’re talking about a child here.”
“Yes I know! It’s our child, of course I want to raise it with you!”
You encircled your arms around his neck, “I can’t expect you to stay. This will change your life and everything you’ve worked so hard for.”
“I don’t give a shit about my career when we’re talking about my family.”
Your eyes widened in response. He said family. He called you his family.
Smiling softly, you caressed the top of his head, “Woohyun, I’m hardly your family.”
“Why would you say that?” he shook his head in disbelief, “You are, in every bit, a part of my family. You are the first thing I think of when I wake up and the last thing that crosses my mind every night. I’m not doing this because I have to – I’m doing this because I want to. I want to grow old with you and watch our grandkids play around in the backyard. I want to be there for you when this child cries in the middle of the night. I want to be the one next to you when you bring this child to the world and I want to be the man who stands next to you saying I do.”
You blinked a couple of times. What did he just say?
“I’m sorry?”
He smiled, “I want to marry you.”
Scoffing, you rolled your eyes, “Look, I don’t know if you’re doing this because you feel bad for me or because you feel morally responsible for getting me pregnant but this isn’t funny.”
“I wasn’t goddamn joking.” He raised an eyebrow, “Christ, this is the most serious I’ve been in my entire life.”
“Woohyun, you can’t expect me to believe that. I don’t want you to marry me because I’m pregnant with your offspring.”
He let out a loud, dramatic, gasp, “Please do not call my child an offspring. My little blip is far too precious to deserve that.”
Letting out a giggle, you sighed, “Don’t marry me because of this, it’ll just make me feel pathetic.”
Woohyun sighed and placed a soft kiss on the tip of your nose, “I want you to know something. I’ve been thinking about proposing to you for months, I just never found the right moment yet. And I know this isn’t exactly the right moment either but you were going on and on about me wanting to leave you and I just couldn’t take it anymore. I’m not going anywhere.”
“I don’t believe you.”
He snarled and threw you over his shoulder, earning a squeal from you. He carried you towards the bedroom and threw you on the bed as a laugh escaped your lips. Walking over towards his bedside table he pulled out the drawer and started to mess it up, searching for something. He smiled to himself as he found what he was looking for. Walking around the bed towards where you were now seated, legs dangling off the bed, he got down on one knee in front of you and revealed the ring box he had been hiding for the past few weeks.
Your eyes widened as you placed your palm over your mouth. He had been telling the truth all along.
“I’m sorry it had to be like this but given the circumstances there was no way I would let you leave me.” He smiled and popped the box open, revealing a gorgeous ring that had a rock too big for your own good, “I meant it – I want to marry you, every inch of you. Not because you’re pregnant, not because I pity you but because I’ve never loved anyone the way I love you. So, what do you say?”
Biting your lip, tears of happiness poured down your cheeks, “Do I need to say it out loud?”
“I swear to God if you say no-”
“Yes, Woohyun.” You laughed.
He looked at you, “Yes, yes?”
“Yes. Yes, yes, yes!” you nearly screeched as you threw your arms around him.
Woohyun spun you around – just like in the movies prior to dropping down on the bed with you. He slipped the ring on your finger and kissed it. Giving you another smile, he slowly pulled your shirt up and started caressing your belly.
“What are you doing?” you played with his hair.
He smiled and placed a kiss on the tip of your stomach, “Hey little blip, it’s daddy here. I just proposed to your mommy, she said yes! I know she’s had a lot of doubts for the past couple of days but I want you to know that you have the most amazing mom in the entire world and that she loves you so, so much. I love you too of course, and I promise that I’ll never put you in harm’s way. I can’t wait to meet you in a couple of months, mommy’s excited too.”
You tugged him up towards you so that you were now face to face, “I love you, Woohyun.”
Placing a kiss on your lips, he whispered in your ear, “I love both of you. More than anything, anyone.”
