Lucanis doesn't get enough credit for surviving the events of Veilguard (when he does), especially after what happens at Weisshaupt. I mean, nobody can blame him for how it turned out. The way the scene plays out makes it impossible for him to succeed. The mission is a disaster the whole way through. Saying that the whole thing is an uphill battle doesn't even begin to cover it.

And at the end of it, he has to take out what's pretty much a god. He only has a few seconds and a single shot at this. He has to move in perfect harmony with a whole another entity also occupying his body while airborne, something most of Thedas never has to even consider as a thing that can be done. And the tentacle freak Ghilan'nain hits him with a lightning fast move nobody could've anticipated. He doesn't even miss, exactly, but is swatted out of the way. He argues for another attempt, but there's no time for that. So, things don't work out.

But he doesn't see it that way. Afterwards, he spends a huge part of the game obsessively replaying the scenario in his head, overanalyzing, blaming himself for it, thinking the rest of the team blames him, as well. He could've ended half the apocalypse there and then, and as far as he's concerned, he failed, and it's all on him. In the end, the whole group made it somehow, they got where they needed to be. They took out the archdemon. They had Ghilan'nain where they needed her. They prepared the stage. All that work, all that effort, and then it was his turn, and he just scratched her.

I'm just saying that if so much was riding on me, and it ended how it ended, with this mindset, I might just think about walking into the next dragon's maw willingly, because what's not falling apart at this point?

He was imprisoned and tortured for a year, effects of which he can't shake off. He's got a demon inside him, or what he thinks is a demon at least, so he constantly fears losing control of his own body and tries to prevent it in unhealthy, self-destructive ways. His grandmother, half of the only remaining family he has left, is dead, to his knowledge. His home is under occupation. Worst case scenario, it is also destroyed by the blight. The world is ending. And now this.

Lucanis really is there with us the whole way through, just having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad time, and thankfully, he survives all of it.

Favorite character: Buck!!! he's SO BLORBO ahhh

Character you relate to the most: also Buck. He’s constantly an ADHD mood, he cares so deeply it hurts, and while my struggles in life have been super different from his, seeing Buck’s journey and working to overcome obstacles is just so relatable!!!!

Favorite episode: Chimney Begins is episode of ALL time.

Hottest take: a minor one but I feel Veronica, the woman Buck and then Albert dated in s4, gets a bad rap. We met her on a disastrous first date and she was absolutely seeing all of Buck’s actions in the harshest way possible, but also we see that episode after having gotten to know him and his heart of gold. We know he isn’t trying to body shame her, but they don’t know each other, so she is going to be wary of this man. And it’s a very human instinct that once you get off on the wrong foot with somebody, little things can start building up - so she misinterprets one comment of his, and starts seeing him in an uncharitable light, and so she assumes the worst of the next comment too. I see people making sweeping judgments about her personality, but we pretty clearly see a difference in Veronica in her later scenes. She’ll heartily agree with Taylor’s comment about not wanting to cater to a man’s ego, but it didn’t have the rude tone that a lot of her comments had in the scene where we first met her. And idk given we have never seen Buck handle a first date without some kind of awkwardness or hiccup, I can sympathize with how she didn’t get the best first impression of him! Buck is sooo easy to warm up to and then endear himself, but it can take a little warming up.

Favorite Lone Star character: Carlos or Paul! It would probably be Paul if the show could GIVE HIM MORE SCREENTIME but since we’ve mainly gotten crumbs over five whole seasons, Carlos is able to stay in the running for LS fave.

Favorite ship: I’ve been bewitched by Bucktommy!!! I’m a huge multishipper and polyshipper but if you make me pick just one…

Most underrated character: hmm so obviously he’s a main and the fandom generally loves him, but I feel Chimney doesn’t get enough appreciation. He gets put in the comic relief box that he may have described for himself, but Hen shut that shit down when he said it because it is not even close to the full picture. Chim is hilarious of course, but he deserves more credit for all the other things he is too! In the show, definitely Karen. Give us more of this rocket scientist, PLEASE!!!

Most underrated ship: Michael and David are sooo underrated! I know we didn’t have them on the show for long enough (thanks, antivax nonsense 🙄) but what we got is such a good love story! Also on Lone Star, more Paul/Carlos or Paul/Carlos/TK, please!!!

One thing you would love to see:

A character driven plot I got my hopes up during the hiatus before s8 was conflict between Hen and Chim, and that first episode really seemed like they might delve into what it looked like for some familial tension! Let our ride or dies fight and have an emotional storyline, and also explore new ground that they haven’t before!!!

And then for thinking of emergencies (since so many of us are here for the soap opera level character plots, but LBR that this show is on the air because of the mass appeal of Angela Bassett and the show that has ridiculous 911 calls like a baby in the pipes!) Something my wife has pointed out when watching with me and I loooove as an idea is how cool to watch a bowling alley fire would be, from a fire science perspective. They can be challenging and dangerous with things like the solvents used to treat the wood, both what’s saturating the floors and bowling lanes but also what might be stored that employees are using still. They’re flammable and also can be toxic, which could then aerosolize. And then the layout of bowling alleys like we saw a little in the show for the woman trapped in the pin machine… those void spaces in the floors and walls and overhead would be trickyyy for airflow feeding the fire and leading to it jumping. She has done so much research into fires and disasters as it’s a special interest of hers so she can and will keep going about what they could be, and I have been FULLY convinced about now really wanting to see this. Such good potential for an eventful call!!!

Hullo. May I ask why Dick is blorbo? No real reason, I'm just a curious and nosy follower :D

1. Young Justice - this show was a big reason why I got back into DC, and when I was younger, Dick and Artemis were my favorite characters because they were humans among superhuman people, and I found that neat. Young Justice season 3 I liked Dicks character arc and also-

2. I'm a sucker for sadboys. I think characters look better with a bit of blood on their faces. Connecting back to young justice season 3, Dick is a major sadboy 😅 shortly after watching season 3 of young justice, i started working 60-70 hour weeks (just for 1 summer) and to get through the day i would make up stories about how i thought Dicks season 4 arcs would go (this really cemented him as blorbo)

3. An irl friend was also into young justice, she got into batfam stuff, I'd never read fanfic before, and seeing her read it at first i was like "pffft i wouldn't get into that lame stuff" and lo and behold i got curious and spiraled. There's a looooot of sadboy Dick fics out there. Like. A lot. But yeah i started out as a batfam stan rather than a titans one, and in my heart i love both and theres an internal battle that wages within me

4. At the same time (or before?) i started reading fics, i also got into the comics from Young Justice. Part of the reason i like Dick is because there's literally just so much content i can read, and i started reading and rereading his solo runs and eventually branched out into titans comics. Not all his comics appearances are good, but I like having a lot of content 😅 it helps spark ideas and gives me "i can fix it" disease

5. His relationships with people!!!! A core reason of why I love the character is all the great relationships he's had across canon. He's a big brother/mentor to Tim and Damian (with Tim i love the image of infallibility Dick has, and his slow fall off the pedestal, and with Damian they start at the bottom and build things up from scratch - i love how he has to earn Damians respect by putting in the work). His relationship with Jason especially pre-reboot is a gold mind of agnst (like. Little brother dies while you're in space and your dad doesn't bother inviting you to the funeral *screams* and blames you for his death to some extent) - the way he knew Jason and they got along fine, though they didn't interact like a ton (i see it as like. Older sibling who's in college) and then one day he's just gone, then comes back and wants to kill you and is so blinded by revenge on your dead father he will destroy everything in his path is just, so much potential here. His relationship with Bruce makes me scream. I liked the few interactions he has with Cass before she got yeeted by DC. And moving outside the family, the found family aspect of the Titans i literally love so much. I cherish his friendship with Donna, I'm a big fan of platonic m/f relationships being given importance and weight, plus again the whole "i love angst" thing was on fire when she dies. I love his relationship with Roy, the way they push one another and butt heads while still deeply trusting one another + the thinly veiled sexual tension between them (i say thinly veiled because Grace literally points it out in Outsiders). His friendship with Wally is also fun, i like reading their team ups. There's so many characters that he interacts with it just sets up so many possible stories, and i love how interconnected he is in the superhero community

6. Man vs world. I like that Dick is a (mostly - everyone has flaws, and Dick does fuck up in canon) well intentioned person struggling against the injustices of the world. That's the long way of saying "i like him because he's a hero". But part of that is like - a lot of his battles narratively fall into man vs world (especially in his solos), with a bit of man vs self here and there, and i like these categories. Most of his conflict is external, and while i like some internal conflict, i get a little bit bored when characters in comics are too introspective - like some of this i don't mind, bonus points if the internal and external conflicts are aligned in a satisfactory way, but DC comics only lets characters grow so much, so introspective stuff can get repetitive imo

absolute king for disrupting the entire plot with an unrelated personal grudge. the beauty of the Hundred Holes Curse being revealed, WWX being like 'why did you do that? I've never done anything to you, hell I've never even met you before to my knowledge' and SMS just being like 'yeah because not everything is about you, I cursed jzx for personal reasons, dumbass' lives on in my heart.

(also cherished of my heart in that scene: the exchange where LXC is like 'why do you dislike Wangji :(' and SMS is like 'wHy Do i DiSLikE LaN wANgJi do I need a fucking permit to not like Lan Wangji? HE'S AN ASSHOLE')

one aspect i wish more people understood about them

so i just spent most of the day ranting about some particularly egregious things 😂 because in my perusal of the sms tag on here and ao3 and my occasional forays to twitter i have seen about every possible bad take known to man. On a general level I just want people to comprehend that he's a complex character who's clearly, like jgy and xy, meant to be a mix of villainous and sympathetic, and not Flat Joke Villain #9. I would just like people to acknowledge he has aspects at all, lol.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character

Moling loves him. I like to write it as a merchantile-heavy city that never had a comfortable relationship with the 'we are above earthly things' Great Sect nearest to them, and didn't have any smaller sect in the area, so when one of their own came back and set up a new sect instead of staying at that stuck-up Lan sect a lot of people were into it. Also in the bent of 'things from the earlier draft aren't true unless i like them', I generally keep as canon the detail that sms did well during the Sunshot campaign (look, he was almost suicidally depressed during that time and life loves giving him exactly what he doesn't want atm. him actually winning some shit by trying to throw himself into unwinnable fights feels like exactly the black comedy his teen years were made of) and hc that it was close enough to Moling that a lot of people are impressed by that as well. not to mention he has connections to the Jin, which bring more money into town! Absolute local legend. Only flaw is that he keeps turning down suggestions of marriage, but we can live with that.

essentially, you know how the Moling Su disciples start fighting with the Lan disciples in that one scene about 'WELL, MAYBE HE'S GREAT ACTUALLY, COULD YOU START A SECT'? the whole city of Moling is Like That.

one character i love seeing them interact with

...jin guangyao. i mean, can i put anyone else. when i type 'e' into my browser bar it defeatedly directs me to Untamed Episode 26 because I have rewatched jgy and sms' first meeting for the seratonin so many times. It's just so good to see JGY being polite and considerate to him, and sms first reacting with shock and then Insane Levels of Devotion (I usually talk book version more, but shout out to Feng Cong for nailing this facial progression in CQL, watching him as SMS going from distress to confusion to more confusion to slowly dawning joy is so good.) And the later Moments Indicating Long-Held Intimacy between them are. Really something, I think about SMS taking the bottle out of JGY's hand because JGY is struggling with it and giving him the medicine, and JGY giving him the medicine packet later (shoutout to CQL for turning that into a whole period-romance-level hand focus moment), not to mention sms bandaging his shoulder with strips from his own robes, d a i l y.

writing this, I love how much of their intimacy is based in wounds and the care thereof? jgy receives a loooot of casual and not-so casual violence in the narrative and rarely receives any sort of care for it (the only other person who tends his wounds onscreen is uh... lxc, who immediately follows it up by stabbing him) so sms' attentiveness to his physical damage and pain, and clear familiarity with is almost a shocking level of care and intimacy. just. jin guangyao gets his arm cut off and su minshan screams. jgy is out of medicine because, presumably, he gave the last of it to sms just a few minutes ago. i'm on to something here. or possibly just having a breakdown. give me a minute.

one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more

I put wishing for more sms-xy interaction on xy's question, so for this one I'll put that (book canon) I'd kill to see him run into mianmian again. CQL canon, I wouldn't have minded a few more scenes with LXC or LQR back in the day.

one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character

more CQL flavor, but him and lan wangi actually got along well (?) for a little while when they were kids. literally all it consisted of was that they silently worked in the library around the same time and one time sms passed him an inkstone, but they're both people that feel the concept of Parallel Play Work Counts As Social Interaction in their souls. this only contributes to sms being even more pissed at lwj for not getting over his whole betrayal moment, and lwj being more angry about sms failing morally, and also some people being very confused about how intensely both of them treat their Grudge™ despite apparently? never speaking? you weren't actually friends or anything right? (lwj: he passed me an inkstone wwx: is that slang for something i don't know or-- sms: i passed him something once! we had a silent understanding! xy: you are completely insane)

If Emmet has all of Ingo's memories now (except the ones he managed to keep in game i guess? Though he only started to remember them after a while... does that mean that Emmet suddendly starts losing Ingo's memories as they appear? Wait that's not my question), does that mean that he remembers the way Ingo disappeared? And possibly a few early memories of hisui, if you're of the opinion that he lost them due to a Pokémon attack. Man he must be so worried. Also i imagine he has killer migraines for a while now. It's not every day you have to sort two sets of memories when one of them just suddendly appeared with no warning. Also! Does Emmet know what emotions are linked to the memories? Does he think about the past from Ingo's perspective and feel the love Ingo held (holds) for Emmet? Does Emmet try to do things Ingo wanted to do in his place when it becomes clear Ingo isn't coming back soon? I love their relationship so much they're so. The blorbos love each other

Also, on a once again sadder note, does Emmet struggle with identity at first? Again, it's not everyday you hold the memories of someone else's entire life along your own in your head. That must be confusing.

When Ingo gets home again, the memories get transferred back to his own brain right ? (Along the ones that were slowly coming back already). Does Emmet panic for a hot second before Ingo shows back up?

These are all VERY good ideas, and this is also one of the things I love about this concept- it’s SO open-ended, it feels like there are a billion possibilities!

What he remembers of Ingo disappearing I think is the part that has the most potential- there’s so many different ways that could go, depending on how Ingo disappeared and how he lost his memories. My initial idea was it was the time travel itself that knocked them loose, and they ended up with Emmet right as Ingo disappeared- but it could very well apply to Ingo losing them in a Pokemon attack in Hisui too!!!

I would think that yes- part of a memory IS the emotions attached to it, so I think Emmet would know that too! But that’s also another possibility that could be explored-

Part of why I put this concept out there NOT in fic form is bc I want to see what others think would happen if this happened! I loved hearing your thoughts on it, and these are all really good questions with so many possible answers!

I will touch on how Ingo would get his memories BACK too, because that’s another one of my favorite specific brainworms about this concept- I like the idea of Ingo getting them back right when he arrives back in his proper time, or when he and Emmet are in the same time (if Emmet goes back to Hisui for him), or the moment the two make physical contact- but again THERE’S SO MUCH POTENTIAL-

I'd really love to do some action-centered writing - I struggle with fight scenes and get way too in my head about people getting up in arms (heh) about potential weapon mistakes, so I just...avoid it. It's something I want to work on this year!

3. How would you describe your writing style?

Oh there are so many styles lmao, but I think I'm pretty consistently poetically concise? My prose tends to be filled with long sentences and bits of description, but I do my best to be evocative with my word choices and sentence structure.

Why say "The peaks of the Spine mountain range looked bloody red as the light of the sunrise bathed them" when "The Spine bleeds at dawn" can do, you know

Both? I love dialogue just as much as I like putting stuff into nice descriptive boxes. It gets hard when I find that one or the other doesn't work for the story I'm telling, especially if I started the story intending to focus more on one than the other

I have so many guilty pleasure words and phrases that at this point some of my fics just read the same *sob*

35. Thoughts on writing challenges/contests?

I love them! There's a lot that aren't for me, esp as my health has declined this year, but I think being part of challenges and contests is super fun. They're usually a great way to press creative boundaries and inspire collaboration, as well as giving people the opportunity to put more of their work out into the world (events w/ large followings who retweet/reblog their creators' works can really have a nice effect on reach, too).

Nier (protagonist): im in act 2 after the whole tentacle ship in my first run and my grasp of nier is: cant swim, is the baby girl to kaines bad boy, he is very tunnel vision and just... Cognitive dissonances his way through the day while taking down more and more shades and tunes out any other options because otherwise nothing would be worth it. Half the time i almost forget yonhas the prerogative because niers so determined to be taking as many detours as possible and keep putting off the inevitable reality. Good boy!

Adam: woman, but no, but yes and a mother, had a stab wound baby he didnt want by deadbeat dad 2b and popularly dubbed incel 9s (i think this is the dumbest and funniest interpretation of his character and how it is held by more than one person i do not know)

This is why the eye's like a big sticky bowling ball. Big man is BIG. He's just also sentient through the eye and can talk with it, just to Estinien though. The eye was taken a thousand years ago and held as a treasure by the Blatantly Just The Catholic Church until Estinien stole it and started running around with it to draw Big Man away from the people in city and towards him, because he's a dragoon knight, a knight that kills dragons. He's like "I will be a delicious hunk of meat this guy wants to tear to pieces. What could POSSIBLY go wrong there?" When they meet in person he takes the OTHER eye out of his head and this leads to 1. covered in blood, 2. my favourite Estinien image of all time

I keep that MF THANG ON ME!!! I've ended up so attached to Esti for a great many reasons but part of it that I'm playing as another dragoon knight and that nets you a bunch of extra scenes and context for him. And he likes you best. This isn't just ANYONE'S blorbo, he's mine lmfao.

Also people struggle with Estinien I think largely because he's characterised as a very socially stunted person so where another character would tell you their tragic backstory and try to explain what they're doing, Estinien just kinda... doesn't? You have to hear it from his dad, and that's optional. So they present you with a guy who is going through some extremely heavy shit but it's mostly private, you're never getting the whole story of this nebulously terrible relationship he's in; he thinks he's got more power in it than he has and the player's inclined to believe him. The curtain comes off about exactly how bad it all is pretty late in the game and even then it's not of his own will and he's resistant to being saved from this situation too. He's a Difficult Bitch. But then you do bleed and cry and help him and seeing the emotional recovery afterwards is really fantastic. Slow burn character.

Also Haurchefant? That's pronounced as "Orshufon." I know.

oikawa may be my og blorbo but yatora is my Forever blorbo. have i talked about blue period enough? the answer is no, never. aside from blue period just being the most real and personal manga i have ever read in my life, yatora just GETS me on a personal level that i cannot describe . the way he’s confident to the point of cocky, but crashes and burns twice as hard; the way he’s so so flawed and he has doubts and struggles but still, at his core, just loves art and wants to connect? oooouuugh [”: anyway blue period chapter 47 broke me, made me have a full on breakdown but yatora is forever my special favorite blorbo

Oikawa Tooru (Haikyuu!!)

oh my original blorbo... i have so many thoughts and emotions and feelings about oikawa that i cannot possibly put into words but he is my og blorbo that i adore and cherish so much while also punting him to the moon [”: his constant push to work harder, better, and his immense pride is extremely personal to me; he’s the reason i wrote 20 haikyuu fics over the course of the pandemic and for that i love him

Mono (Little Nightmares II)

ogs remember my intense little nightmares brainrot early last year<3 i don’t have many thoughts about mono other than “that is my little guy”, i spent a long time studying his (essentially nonexistent) character personality and maybe i’m projecting my nonbinary agenda on him but he’s a very special little guy to me

Rachel Gardner (Angels of Death)

so here’s the thing about aod. it is not a well written story nor is it one i would recommend to anyone because of how grisly and edgy it is. and yet, have i consumed Every Kind of media that i possibly can of this story? yes absolutely i even bought two copies of the final volume of the manga by complete accident. something about the early 2000s rpgmaker edginess is special to me and i found the game at a very... turbulent time in my life, let’s say haha none of the characters are good characters but ray has just that touch of “fucked up traumatized child” that i connect with somehow

Maka Albarn (Soul Eater)

yknow i think maka was one of my og awakenings KJGDSKA soul eater is just one of those anime/manga that i fondly think about from time to time and i’ll never forgive what they did to it in the spinoff. maka is just that kind of girl who would kick my ass to the moon and when i was a teen, i definitely had a huge crush on her (not to mention she’s voiced by laura bailey in the dub; a win all around for me)

Theobald Leonhart (LiEat)

looks like i’m pulling out my  ✨obscure rpgmaker games ✨ card on this one. lieat is one of those games that really spoke to me and i don’t know why! theo is such an important character to me and that “stuck with you until we’re eventually family” relationship he has with efi melts my heart [”: also miwashiba popped off with their character designs

Mob/Shigeo Kageyama (Mob Psycho 100)

mob is actually my little guy ever sorry mono, this kid is so important to me. mp100 in general is just extremely important to me (how are we feeling about mp100 III in october? insane.) i don’t have any big deep reason why i enjoy him so much, he’s just very easy to love
