chamomile tea and honey
Genre/Tropes: Hurt/Comfort. Can be read as platonic or romantic.
Summary: Alchemy can be so overwhelming, but if there's anyone you can trust to help you with your current state it's Ruggie.
Author's Comments: This has descriptions of panic attacks! Please tread carefully. Also I took the approach of a reader that finds touch grounded when having a panic attack since I've written a few pieces before were reader is very much no touching!! This oneshot is featuring an unusually soft Grim because I feel like we don't see the side of him that genuinely cares about MC enough.
~~~~~
You weren’t sure what happened.
One second you were fine, mixing ingredients with Grim and Floyd as a part of your alchemy class. The next thing you know, Ace and Deuce began fighting near the cauldron next to you, causing Floyd to be distracted and knock over a vial of some weird herb. You could only try to salvage what you could of your work as the two began yelling. Floyd egged them on and the fumes of your ruined potion stunk up the room, overwhelming your senses. The yelling made your eardrums ring as you struggled for breath, your head growing gradually hotter. It was only a matter of time before Crewel dragged the three troublemakers to the front of the classroom, leaving you hunched down beside your cauldron. Grim looked genuinely concerned, his paws petting your face gently and it took you a minute to realize that you were crying.
“Hey, Teach!” a familiar voice called, “I think the Ramshackle Prefect got hit by something. They don’t look too good. Can I bring them to the infirmary?”
You didn’t hear the professor’s response over the sound of your pounding heart, but it must have been affirmative since the mystery person swung your left arm over their shoulders and lifted you up off the ground.
“Come on, work with me here. Getting you out of this environment will make things better, I promise.” he grunted, helping you to the blurry classroom door.
It wasn’t until you were out in the corridor that you found the strength to peel your other hand away from your face. Hunched down in front of you was none other than Ruggie Bucchi, his eyes staring into yours.
“Are you breathing alright?” he asked, placing a hand on the floor to hold himself up as he tilted his head to get a better look at you.
You shook your head frantically, taking large gulps of air. Ruggie moved closer to you, brushing his fingers against your hand.
“Is this okay?”
You nodded.
He brought your hand up to his chest, placing it right over his heart.
“I want you to breathe with me, okay?” he whispered, giving you a few moments to get used to the contact before he sucked in a deep breath.
You tried to match his pace for a few breaths, trying to rein yourself back in when you felt your breath speed up again. Ruggie was incredibly patient with you, his breathing remaining steady. His rhythm stayed constant even as you finally came down from hyperventilating.
He gave you a few more seconds of recovery before he spoke again.
“Can you speak?” he whispered, sitting down on the carpeted floor.
“Yes.” you mumbled, tearing your gaze away from him.
Grim had been uncharacteristically quiet throughout this entire exchange, but you could still feel his paws pressed to your arm. The show of concern warmed your heart—Grim was usually far more demanding and harsh when he was with you, but deep down maybe even he could be soft.
“Do you want to stay here? I can walk with you if not. We can walk around the school or go straight to the infirmary.”
You were so thankful Ruggie seemed to know what to do in this situation. He was keeping his distance, constantly checking your body over for any signs of discomfort.
“I want to get away from here.” you reached out for him, finally raising your head to meet his gaze.
“Okay.” he grabbed your hand, helping you to your feet, “Do you think you can walk on your own? If you’re still shaky I can help you.”
“I think I’ll be fine...but can you keep holding me?” you asked, wrapping your other arm around his.
“Of course. Just let me know if you need anything, okay?” Ruggie squeezed your hand gently.
You were in a daze as you walked with him, your eyes unfocused. His eyes were focused on the wall ahead of you, his pace never wavering.
“We’re here.” Ruggie removed his hand from yours and pressed it to your back.
You registered your knees hitting a cot before Ruggie lifted you up. You jerked a bit, startled as he laid you down with unexpected gentleness. You finally made eye contact with him as he slipped his hands out from under you. There was a moment of silence within the infirmary as he pulled up a chair and sat at your bedside.
“Can I get you anything?” Ruggie mumbled, crossing his arms on your cot as he rested his head on them.
“You’re being...unusually serious.” you hummed, trying to lighten the serious mood you weren't accustomed to with Ruggie of all people.
Ruggie snorted, “Well, you’re definitely more relaxed now. I’m glad, seeing you all panicked was creepy.”
You rolled your eyes, deciding to spare Ruggie from commenting on how his eyebrows were still furrowed with worry. The boy in question lunged forward and ruffled your hair. You whacked his hand away and he winced playfully, holding the hand close to his heart.
“You wound me, Prefect! And here I was, about to make you some tea. It’ll cost you ten thaumarks now!” he laughed, eyes narrowing at you.
“Ruggie...that’s an outrageous price for tea. Even if you’re the one that made it.” you sighed, slamming your head back onto the pillow.
“Aww, are you saying my tea is worth at least nine thaumarks?” Ruggie turned away, starting to make his way back towards the door, “I’ll be right back Prefect, I’m just going to the cafeteria. You hang tight.”
“Ruggie...you don’t have to. I feel a lot better since I’m out of that environment.” you acknowledged Grim climbing into your lap with a soft pet on his head.
“If it’s about paying me, don’t worry. This is on the house.” Ruggie shot you one last smile before he disappeared from your view.
“Hey...are you okay? I can’t have my henchman going out of commission on me.” Grim finally spoke up the second Ruggie left the room, his blue eyes filled with worry.
“I’m okay Grim. You don’t need to worry about me.” you scratched behind his ears affectionately.
“I wasn’t worried! You just looked so freaked out and...and I don’t know who else would do my bidding if you were troubled!” Grim had bounced back because of your confirmation, his normal smug expression returning, “Now keep scratching me! I don’t remember telling you that you could stop.”
“Right, right.” you hummed, your previously muddled brain slowing to soft waves of calm thoughts.
It wasn’t long before Ruggie came back, a small tray in his hands. You sat up in bed again, watching his entrance with a smile.
“Someone’s happy to see me.” he teased, placing the tray in your lap, "I decided to make some chamomile tea for you to help with your stress! I wouldn't want you to be stressed out so much you have a panic attack again.”
“Thank you, Ruggie. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't dragged me out of there.” you gently picked up the teacup, taking a small breath, “And I know that sounds cheesy so please don't laugh at me.”
Ruggie was silent for a few beats before he chuckled, placing his hand on your shoulder and rubbing gently.
“Hey, we take care of each other around here, alright? You needed me. And the next time I need someone to do me a favor, I expect you to follow through!” he laughed, but he made no move to leave your side.
“Of course.” you rolled your eyes, amused, “I've never let you down before.”
Tired- Ruggie Bucchi x Reader Angst to Comfort
tw: mentions of poverty, alcoholism, depression
a/n: I adore ruggie's character and want to do so many more studies about him <<333 I feel like he gets overlooked a lot in favor of other characters- but he's getting a lot more love from the fandom recently which makes me so happy!
Ruggie Bucchi was tired.
From as early on as he could remember, he was always on his feet. He felt as though there was always some sort of darkness trying to grab him- clawing at his worn clothing and creeping into the crevices of his mind when he slept at night, stirring in his sleep until his grandmother would console him. If he slowed down, the darkness would hold onto him and not let go.
Everyone in his hometown ran. They ran and ran and ran for their own darknesses were lurking behind every corner and just itching to grab ahold of them and drag them down.
Ruggie had seen how long his grandmother had been running- how her back ached day in and day out, her wobbly knees barely supporting her once muscular frame and how her experienced eyes seemed to simply stare sometimes- not at anything or anyone in particular, just a blank stare at the horizon, or a soft, sad gaze that would trail over his features as she crouched in front of him, shaking hands clasped firmly around his too-thin shoulders as she pulled him into a bone-crushing hug when she apologized over and over again- explaining that they couldn't afford to make him something special for his birthday.
He didn't want to drag her with him when he knew that she had her own darkness to battle. He chose to run alone.
He saw what would happen to those who stopped running. He would walk through his neighborhood and see the blank stares of those who fell into the darkness' trap. The way their eyes glazed over as they sat slumped against the houses, surrounded by alcohol bottles and their breathing shallow as though they were already at death's door, their senseless rambles as their energy slowly depletes as the darkness soaks in their livelihood.
The thought of the same happening to him terrified him, so he ran.
He ran as a child, sneaking into the city while his grandmother was working and stealing whatever caught his eye. He would come back hours later, often bruised and bleeding from when he would get caught, but he would have enough to feed him and his grandmother for the week. He would carry armfuls of anything he could find- fresh or spoiled- and help his neighbors try to make them edible.
He had run when he was finally old enough to work, running errands for people and working countless jobs day and night- even when his legs threatened to give out beneath him and he was seeing double around him. Even when he barely had the energy to keep his eyes open while he was bussing tables or sweeping floors, even when his smile was forced -the small movement only worked to burn up energy that he didn't have.
He still ran- he worked to learn how to read and write, he worked to develop his magic even though there was nobody around to teach him how, he worked to make sure that everyone in his neighborhood laughed every day, to keep a smile on their faces. He made jokes and played games even though every step made his feet feel as though they were on fire and his legs and back ached and longed to rest.
Most days he would only be able to get a few hours of sleep before he had to wake up and work again, often leaving his house on an empty stomach (although his grandmother tried her hardest to make sure he ate). He would run until late at night until he could get his first and last meal of the day.
The day he got accepted into Night Raven College was the happiest and saddest day of his life. He was ecstatic to finally find the thread that he was looking for- the small thread being his only hope to help everyone out once and for all. An opportunity to get a real education, to hone his skills, and build his resume. A chance to get his grandmother a nice bed and clothes, to give the neighborhood kids real toys like the ones they tell him about when they go to the market with their families.
Ruggie cried in his grandmother's arms that night, feeling as though he was abandoning those he loved more than anything. He wasn't given much as a child, so he cherished and protected those who he held dear as though they were worth all the gold in the royal treasury. He promised to send money back, begged his grandmother to tell him if anything was wrong or if they needed something. She sighed and asked him to rest, for he had a busy day the next day.
He climbed into the carriage, looking over his shoulder at the neighborhood kids and his grandmother as they cheered him on and waved as the door closed behind the misty-eyed beastman.
He was sorted into Savanaclaw, a dorm ruled by none other than the prince of the Afterglow Savana. After a bit of haggling, he was able to get his first job at Night Raven College.
Next, he was able to snag a job working with the shopkeep on campus.
He kept an eye on the boy who had challenged the Octavinelle dorm leader and won, hearing about his plans to open a restaurant on campus.
Ruggie was not prepared for the time and attention to be put towards homework and projects. This was his first time in an actual school, and he already felt as though he was falling behind everyone else.
Everyone else who had been able to play when they were children.
Everyone else who would tell stories about the trouble they got into while in school or the projects they'd been able to do in the past.
Everyone else who had come from respectable and well-known families.
Everyone else who would come home and be greeted with a kiss from their mother and games with their father, a warm meal on their dining room table.
Ruggie felt like an outsider- a boy without a penny to his name who didn't even have a backpack, forced to carry all of his supplies (which amounted to a few borrowed textbooks, a notebook he had gotten from the shopkeep, and a few pencils he had found abandoned on the ground on his first day).
He had gotten used to being the outsider- the one lump of coal amongst the crowd of jewels he was constantly surrounded by. He had worked and worked, and worked and ran until his legs shook beneath him and he could barely find the energy to get back to his dorm room at night, oftentimes falling asleep in Savanaclaw's common room, curled around his supplies in fear of someone stealing them while his guard was down.
He would still steal, seeing as many of the wealthy students at NRC wouldn't even notice if they were missing a two-thousand madol bracelet or a five-thousand madol watch.
He was caught once by the now-dorm leader and vice from Scarabia. The dorm leader's smile when he reassured him that he could have asked if he wanted the necklace so badly and that he wasn't going to press charges nearly made Ruggie sigh and hand it over as he had before.
He couldn't say the same for the vice.
When Ruggie returned to the dorm and sold off the necklace, his heart got caught in his throat when the buyer asked if he had been given the necklace from the Al-Asim heir. He decided to be more careful from then on, realizing just how much he could have lost from that one little necklace.
He wrote home as often as possible, trying to take as many pictures as he can and sending them back to prove to his grandmother that she shouldn't be worried about him, that he was safe and happy where he was. He would also send every penny that he had earned back, feeling the anxiety in his stomach quell when his grandmother told him how much he was helping, how happy everyone was, even if they all missed him dearly. When he could call back home, which often happened once a week or every two weeks, he would feel his exhaustion ebb when he heard the kids argue over the phone, each of them wanting to ask him about school and his classmates.
The next year, he wasn't expecting to see a human stumble out of the coffin, causing chaos along with a talking monster. He saw how their lip quivered when they looked over the audience of NRC students, how their voice trembled when they told the headmaster what was happening. His initial thought was that they were easy prey, already trying to scan over their clothing to see if there was anything valuable.
Ruggie's resolve was only solidified when they stepped on Leona's tail, feeling a stab of pity for the human as they tried to wrangle the firey monster back from arguing with the lion.
He didn't see them for the next month, only hearing of their hijinks from other students.
Ruggie had stolen from them twice, and tried to ignore their confused and saddened expression while he ran away from them and their friends.
Until the day of the Magshift tournament.
The day had been a blur to him- he'd taken the potion and felt his magic surge through his veins stronger than it ever had, his blood feeling as though it were boiling water being pumped through his veins faster than he could have ever imagined. He trembled as he watched the crowd head towards the Diasomnia team, falling to his knees and gasping for air as he weakly stumbled back to the arena, watching in terror as Leona's words floated through his ears, holding no meaning at all once he felt his throat go raw.
Ruggie tried to stand when he felt his entire body go stiff, the burn of his skin turning to sand unbearable as he pleaded for the beastman to stop, screaming through his tears that turned to sand once they left his eyes and clawing at his throat with skin that chipped and flaked off with every small movement. He saw the crimson droplets bleed through his uniform and drip onto the ground, gasping for air that wouldn't reach his lungs as he sniffled and sobbed, trying to scramble away in a panic as his mind raced.
If he died here, what would become of everyone at home?
It wasn't until he felt warm hands on his shoulders pulling him away from the sandstorm that scratched at his skin, and then a shield from his face as the light blinding his bloodshot eyes dimmed for just a moment. He peeked a stormy gray eye open to meet their own concerned ones. He saw their lips moving as they peeked out of their small blazer fort, then moving their gaze back down to him. He couldn't hear what they were saying over the ringing in his ears as his head throbbed and his vision spun, feeling his eyes roll back as his vision went black for a split second, waking to their hand lightly smacking his face as they begged for him to stay awake.
He smiled sadly when he realized that this weak human thought they could protect him, and at their efforts to do just that. He felt something spring to life under the near-blinding pain throbbing beneath his skin before his head fell back and he lost consciousness.
Ruggie remembers that day sadly, now idly tracing over the long, crack-like scars that coated his skin. He often feels as though he could still taste the staleness of the sand in his throat, now opting to carry a water bottle with him most days just to push back that feeling.
He kept running, no matter how much pain he was in or how his limits had been set back by the injuries. He ignored the prefect's concern at that time, running and running until his heels were sore and he felt as though the scars were throbbing from the effort.
He ran as he always had- blistered heels and worn shoes thudding against the ground.
His third year was different.
He still ran, but the darkness was no longer hot on his heels. It was sedated, slowed by the presence of the Ramshackle prefect.
His feet still throbbed, but they still managed to support him until he could make it to his room.
His exhaustion ebbed when he could finally see the prefect again, hurriedly placing his things on the floor and practically launching himself on his bed, thankful that he didn't have roommates as dorm leader. He buried his face in their stomach, scrawny arms wrapped around their midsection as he heard their soft giggle, their soft hands running through his hair and pushing it away from his face.
His heart swelled when he pulled back, opting to rest his arms around their midsection and lay down with them, still wearing his stuffy uniform as his eyes met theirs.
Ruggie saw nothing but pure adoration laced in their features as they held his scarred face softly, running their fingers over each and every little detail, thumbs tapping along the freckles that danced along the bridge of his nose and spread out throughout his entire face. He smiled softly, willing the thankful tears that welled in his eyes to not fall as the prefect gently hushed him with a tender kiss on the forehead.
He swore they would be the death of him someday, and he was sure that he would wholeheartedly accept his fate if that were how his thread of life was cut short. He held them close, trying to soak in every ounce of warmth they held in their body, praying to the stars that this was real. He pressed his ear to their chest, listening to their even heartbeat as he felt the slow rise and fall of their breaths. He tried to absorb each small shift beneath their clothes as they tried to get comfortable with the hyena laying atop them, tried to memorize the way their fingers danced through his dry strands of hair and rested on his scalp, tried to internalize their comforting smell.
It was as though he were floating on a cloud, the more he took and took and took. Ruggie knew he was being greedy. He knew that he would be doomed if any of his underclassmen saw him in such a state- desperate for his lover's touch and melting under their affection.
Ruggie knew this was not the end. At the tender age of 18- not quite a child, with all the experience but not yet fit to be an adult- he still had a long, hard run ahead of him. He would still struggle, the darkness and shadows of the slums always attached to him, creeping into the corners of his mind as he lies awake at night.
But now he knew that he didn't have to run alone- and for the first time he thought that, perhaps, he never had to run alone in the first place.
He knew that the darkness would subside.
Ruggie knew that its hold on him would slip more and more the older and stronger he gets. And now, Ruggie thought with a small smile on his tanned and freckled face, he knew the Prefect would pick him back up when the soles of his feet ached and he stumbled over his own weary legs as they threatened to give out, they would run with him, they would do everything in their power to help him get away.
When they were around, Ruggie felt as though he was taking his first breath of air in years.
He didn't have to pretend.
He didn't have to smile.
He didn't have to put on a brave face, no longer did he have to build that barrier between himself and the rest of the world.
It had been painstaking, and often became more complicated than necessary, but the prefect was able to tear that wall down just enough for them to slip in. He was annoyed at the human at first.
No, he thinks to himself. Not annoyed... scared.
He was scared that they would see the shadows under his eyes, the hopelessness in his face when he was forced to think about what would happen in the next week, about how he would have to learn to survive in the next few years. Ruggie didn't want anyone to see the nights when he would bite at his pillow when pained tears would stream down his face, feeling absolutely powerless against the pull of the slums as they took away yet one more person he held dear- mind racing with possibilities and wonders on who could be next. Would it be his grandmother? Or another one of the neighborhood kids? Would it be the nice man who he would often cook with? Or the woman who would hand-sew everyone's clothes? The uncertainty tore him apart until he often had to run as far from the dorm as possible and scream into the night, his howls echoing throughout the night shy as he clawed at his chest at the overwhelming feeling of dread as his mind continued to spin.
Since he was a child, he would have to slip away as his vision would spin and nausea would bubble in his throat from the thoughts alone as he would gasp for air, collapsing onto the ground and scurrying off to a dark corner to battle this invisible monster alone, writhing and whining and pleading silently for someone to save him before it killed him.
Panic attacks, the prefect would tell him after witnessing it firsthand, holding him close and waiting patiently for his body to stop trembling as he gripped onto their shirt so tightly his claws embedded themselves in their skin, leaving little red dots in their wake. He was having panic attacks.
In front of the prefect, he felt as though he was safe enough to do just that. He was allowed to be scared, allowed to be insecure and allowed to worry for everyone at home openly. He wasn't pressured to put on a brave face, to joke around and hide his fear for the days to come.
Words could not describe how much his heart swelled when they looked in his direction, how his gaze would soften as he watched them perform menial tasks absentmindedly, tapping their feet to their phone speaker as he leaned over the counter, smiling softly to himself.
Every little lunch they pack him and every small note doodled on napkins and corners ripped off of homework assignments makes him fall even more in love with them.
Every peck on the cheek and every time their hand brushed his only solidified the fantasy in his mind- the fantasy that he hoped day in and day out to one day make a reality.
The fantasy of marrying them one day. To see them in his homeland's traditional wedding attire, to dance with them among the fireflies and to help them move into his small childhood home. To live with them and his grandmother, getting to spend every morning and every night laying beside them and staring at their features.
Every day by their side.
Ruggie shifts up a bit to see their now sleeping face, resting his head against his pillow- rough fabric chilled from the cold air of the savanna at night. He gently held their face and pressed a soft kiss to their lips, holding them close when they snuggle into him unconsciously.
"Thank you," He murmurs against their lips, allowing his own eyes to slip closed.
Savannaclaw Boy's Flustering their S/O
Leona Kingscholar
Leona was an individual who took pride in how he can make others react. He soaks in their reactions, whether range from shock, anger, fear or even being flustered. That being said, he's certainly annoyed by how he can't seem to fluster his own s/o. One sunny afternoon, Leona was laying in the botanical garden. His arms were crossed under his head and his eyes were shut close. One would assume that Leona was fast asleep, enjoying the warmth that came from the sun. However, the flickering of his tail was a dead giveaway to anyone who had known him, that this was actually not the case.
"What's got you all worked up?"
He knew that voice.
Peeking one eye open, Leona saw your concerned eyes. You were bending over so that your head was hovering over his own. Usually, on a nice day like this, Leona would be fast asleep and hardly anything could get him awake. Crouching down to sit beside him, you place a hand atop his forehead.
"No fever," you mumbled. He furrowed his own eyebrows at the display, scrunching his nose slightly.
Closing his eyes again, he let out a comfortable sigh as you began to run your fingers through his hair. You, being still concerned about his behavior, began to mumble to yourself.
"Did you and Ruggie get in another fight? Or perhaps Cheka came for another visit..." you questioned to no one in particular.
Growing more annoyed at your mumbling, Leona clicked his tongue. He opened his eyes to lock eyes with you, which made you stop talking. You hoped he would answer your own worries, but instead, he slowly lifted himself to sit up. Leaning closer to you, he lifted his hand to grab your own that was entangled in his hair. You raised an eyebrow at him, your eyes still locked onto each other.
He brought your hand slowly to his own lips. Being used to his affectionate ways, you smiled. He places a gentle kiss on your knuckles before leaning his forehead against your own.
What you were not used to was his display of affection using words.
"I missed you, that's all."
Before he could even finish his sentence, the tips of your ears and the surface of your cheeks darkened. The heat you began to feel in your face was uncomfortable and foreign to you.
Leona had always shown his love through physical touch, which is something you had grown accustomed to. However, hearing him show his affection through words was something completely new.
You snapped your face away from his own and snatched your hand away. Covering your face with your hand, you hope to hide the flustered reaction from him. Though, it was much too late.
A smirk had grown on Leona's face as he watched you.
"That easy, huh," he chuckled before grabbing your hands away from your face. "Don't hide from me, herbivore, you look pretty like this."
Your cheeks had darkened from his words again as you struggled to hide from him.
"Who has the fever now?" He mocked you as he had trapped your hands beside your figure.
"Shut up."
Ruggie Bucchi
To say you were a little surprised when you saw Leona standing outside your dorm room, was an understatement. He was standing in front of you with his arms crossed and a scowl across his face.
"Uhm, can I help you with something, Leona?" You questioned, a little suspicious of his presence.
He let out a huff before squinting his eyes at you. "Whats's going on with Ruggie?"
You blinked, taken aback by his words, before furrowing your eyebrows. "What do you mean?"
Leona sighs as if he expected you to understand, then pinches the bridge of his nose. "He's been nagging me about things, more so than usual."
You still stared at him, lost.
Leona stared back at you before groaning. "He's been willingly doing things for me, recently, and doesn't even complain. He's also been asking for even more things to do,"
Your mouth opens into a slight 'o' shape.
However, Leona doesn't stop, he keeps ranting. "He's been asking so much that I can't even get a moment of peace. He's acting like Jack does with him," His voice changes into a mutter, "Not to mention the amount of money he's been demanding."
You had tuned out the young prince as confusion began to swallow you. This was quite unusual, so you could see why Leona went to seek you out for answers. Though, it's not like you had an answer yourself, you were just as confused.
Seeing your confused expression, Leona clicked his tongue. "You don't know either, huh."
You shook your head and crossed your arms over your chest. "I'll go talk to him, hopefully, that'll clear things up."
"I hope so, I desperately need a nap without being nagged by him." Leona scowled before walking off.
You stand there for a minute, trying to figure out the best way to approach Ruggie. However, hearing some footsteps nearing your room, you supposed you didn't have to approach him.
Ruggie came walking toward you with a smug smile and his arms behind his head.
"Yo," He beamed at you, his eyes closing as he smiles.
You frowned while your arms were still crossed against your chest. "Ruggie," He hummed as a response. "Why did Leona visit me this morning to tell me about you overworking yourself?"
His expression faltered at that and his ears twitched as a response. That was the last thing he was expecting to hear, Leona wasn't exactly the type to take initiative.
"Ah," He chucked sheepishly, "About that."
You raised an eyebrow as you waited for his response.
"You know I'm not really the mushy type, so this is kind of hard for me to say, but," He grabbed your hand and placed something in your palm.
"I love you and I wanted to get you something nice so there," Ruggie muttered embarrassed. He placed his hands back behind his head and waited for your response.
You looked down at the gift he had placed in your hand. At first, you were confused, it seemed like it was just two strips of paper until you held it closer to your eyes.
As you did, simultaneously, your eyes widened as you read. Ruggie had gotten your tickets to your favorite band.
You had been raving about these tickets for a while now, ever since you learned that they would be touring near you. Though, because you had no income, there would be no way for you to actually afford the tickets. After learning that fact, you were a little bummed about it for the past few days.
Perhaps, it was the dedication Ruggie put in to get these tickets just for you, but you felt your face heat up. Not only were there slight tears in your eyes, but now you have to deal with the fact that you were actually blushing.
Noticing this, Ruggie flinches slightly at your response. The pink on your cheeks and at the tip of your ears was unexpecting. Out of all of the things he has done to actually try to make you blush, it's the one time he doesn't that successes?
You let out a sniffle, which scares the poor hyena boy even more. Though, he's taken even more aback when you step closer to him and pull him in for a hug.
Burying your face into his shoulder, you let out a muffled 'thanks.'
He blinks before slowly returning your hug, awkwardly patting the back of your head as you let out a few tears.
Though, as you clung to him in appreciation for your gift, he couldn't help but smile. After a bit, he laid his cheek against your head and closed his eyes, soaking in the affection.
Jack Howl
You had seemed to never give poor Jack a break. His personality is quite easily flustered and you had taken advantage of that fact. From teasing him with gentle touches to the arm to smirking as you compliment his form as he works out. All of which leaves him with the same reaction, a bright red blush across his cheeks and a stuttering mess.
He was tired of always being the victim of your teasing without getting any retaliation. Thus, his one solution was to go to someone for some help. The someone being Ruggie Bucchi, his paragon.
“You have to get them when they least accept it,” Ruggie smirked. “The act of surprise.”
Jack, who was leaning against Ruggie’s dresser, watched as he folded Leona’s clothes. He still didn’t quite understand why Ruggie was so willing to look after Leona so much. Though, he supposes that's why he admires him.
He folded his arms across his chest before raising an eyebrow. “How would I do that?”
Ruggie shrugged as he placed the neatly folded clothes back into the basket. “I’m not a part of your relationship with them, so I don’t know what would surprise them.”
Jack hummed, although disappointed, he knew where Ruggie was coming from. It’s not like his relationship was displayed for all to see. Even if it was, he doubt anyone would be truly interested.
Noticing Jack’s slightly saddened behavior, Ruggie let out a sigh. “Just think of it like this; if you want to surprise them, you need to do something that you haven’t done before.”
Jack thought on that explanation for a bit before he finally had an idea. Your relationship was still fairly new, so there was one thing that had come to mind that would really shock you. He smiled slightly and a brand new determination had begun to motivate him.
“Thank you, Ruggie-senpai, let me get that basket for you.”
Before Ruggie could protest, Jack had lifted the basket filled with clothes and began heading toward Leona’s room. Ruggie huffed and began chasing after him with the intent to stop him.
After seeking advice from Ruggie, Jack decided to put his plan into action. He began heading toward your dorm, his thoughts running a thousand miles per minute.
Before he could even register it, he was in front of your dorm room. He lifted a fist to knock on the door, thought before he could, he hesitated. Once again, his thoughts were beginning to doubt himself. Could he actually do this? Would it be successful?
He stands there, thinking over everything until the door swings open.
“Jack!” Your smile was all that he saw as you opened the door before you had launched yourself at him.
Wrapping your arms around his chest, you bring him in for a hug. It had been a while since you last saw Jack and you were beginning to become worried. Usually, Jack made it a mission to come and see you at least twice a day. However, you had almost gone the whole weekend without seeing him once.
You rested your chin on his chest while looking up at him, seeing the familiar blush on his cheeks. You smiled at that, sort of relieved that nothing seemed to change about him.
“Where have you been?” You asked, curiously watching as his ears twitched.
“Sorry,” He apologizes, “I was asking Ruggie-senpai about something.”
After he had said that, you noticed his conflicted expression. His eyebrows were furrowed and it didn’t seem like he was actually looking at you. You raise one of your hands to poke at his cheek. “Are you alright? It seems like something is bothering you.”
This was his chance, Jack noted. All he had to do was one simple thing, how hard could it be? Though, there were so many risks that could come after.
“Jack?”
Fuck it.
Jack swooped down to capture your lips with his own. The kiss didn’t last long nor was it, particularly memorizing, but it was warm. It was quite gentle, as well, for such a brute. A quick peck, but it changed so much.
You hardly even registered it, simply staring at him with wide eyes. Though, when you finally recognized the slight tingle at your lips, your cheeks burned a bright red. You leaned away from him for a second and brought a hand to your lip.
“I can’t believe I actually did it,” Jack groaned while hiding his own face in his elbow. Hearing the silence, Jack grew concerned. What if you actually didn’t want to kiss? He really should have asked you before diving in, but it was the heat of the moment kind of thing.
Looking toward you again, he paused. The sight of you being flustered was so foreign to him but so worth the trouble.
After a while, you began laughing. A small giggle turned into full fledge laughter, which startled Jack. You smiled at him before wrapping your arms around his neck to bring him in for another kiss.
Both of your cheeks glowing.
Hii I'm the anon that made that clumsy reader request and I loved your writing so much <333 I'd like to request that same prompt but for the 2nd years. If the characters are too much than I'm fine with just Riddle, Ruggie and silver <3
Warnings: minor injuries (skinned knee, sprains, bruises etc.)
Wordcount: 1,695
Pairings: Riddle Rosehearts x gn!reader, Ruggie Bucchi x gn!reader, Azul Ashengrotto x gn!reader, Jade Leech x gn!reader, Floyd Leech x gn!reader, Kalim Al Asim x gn!reader, Jamil Viper x gn!reader, Silver x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Wants to immediately wrap you in bubble wrap
Riddle doesn't know what to do with you half the time
Watches you like a hawk
"Dear take a step back. Pivot 30 degrees left. There we go. You were about to run smack into a wall again."
He'll say its because he wants to ensure that you don't break any rules, but we all know its because he's really concerned for you
Removes all breakable objects from places you could accidentally smack into within Heartslabyul
He tries his best to make sure you don't get hurt, but when you inevitably do, he'll bring out the first aid kit and help as much as he can
He's not exactly experienced in first aid but, he does his best. And thats what's important
Will take to following you around at a distance or just checking up on you a lot
May or may not abuse his dorm leader privileges by asking his dorm members to watch out for you and make sure you don't get hurt that often.
You now have a small army of people from Heartslabyul all trying to help make sure you don't get hurt while at school.
It 100% works.
Tumblr media
Will absolutely make fun of you
He has never in his whole life met someone as clumsy as you
Ruggie may not have much sympathy towards you, but he'll always help bandage you up when you get hurt
He's done it a little back home.
It was too expensive to go to the doctor half the time so he got really good at helping his granny when it came to cleaning up his cousins' injuries
Will require payment in snacks for patching you up so nicely.
Its only fair after all!
"With the way you're flailing like that you'd think I'd have put you under Laugh with Me Hot Stuff. Shishishishi"
Humour helps alleviate any tension that arises when you break something expensive
And when Leona goes on a rampage because you shattered his window and disturbed his nap
Ruggie will be right there beside you as you run away in fear from the angry lion man
All in all, he won't save you from your clumsiness, but he will help out afterwards
Tumblr media
Mostly disappointed but also kinda confused???
Really you shouldn't be expecting much help from Azul
Because his immediate thought goes back to how he and the twins used to walk like that when they first got their legs
Going from 8 lower limbs down to 2 was a trip for him. Plus Gravity? He was wobbling all over the place
But you, you're human. You've always had that many legs. So just? Stop??? Tripping??
"Why? Why are you like this Doll. Seriously, I learned to walk not even two years ago and even I can walk ten steps without falling flat on my face. Just. Stop. I beg of you."
Will lose his shit if you break anything in the lounge because you tripped over your own feet
Like lifelong ban kinda loses it
He may care about you, but the wellbeing of the restaurant and has to come first when your very presence spells out a disaster with all the breakable stuff around
The good news is he will fuss over you every time you get hurt
Scolds you about being more careful, probably would suggest you do a lot of the exercises that he and the twins did to get used to legs
They may or may not help
But due to the fact Azul sees you as a walking hazard, please do them, it'll prevent him from getting early wrinkles from all the stress he's getting from being around you.
Tumblr media
Also confused as to why you're so clumsy
He didn't even have legs prior to 2 years ago so, you really should be better at walking than this
Probably the best person to be clumsy around
He'll usually catch all the things you knock over
Steady you with a hand when you almost trip and fall
"Careful now Dearest~ You could have gotten hurt there. You are quite lucky to have fallen within arms reach of me. Fufufu~"
Wrap up and injuries you get should you get hurt
However...sometimes he'll just, let you fall.
And he'll watch you with those maliciously amused eyes of his as you get up from where you landed
He'd make sure you weren't hurt too bad but still. Sometimes he just enjoys watching you flail a little
He finds your genetic incompetence at a basic skill endearing.
After a bit he may force you into doing the lessons he took to be able to walk normally. So be on the look out for that
Tumblr media
Finds your clumsiness to be kinda fun at first
He could swoop in and pick you up for an impromptu squeezing session that he could hide as saving you from yourself
After a while though, Floyd does get bored of that. The novelty of you being a clutz wore off and now he sees it totally different.
Can actually be quite mean when it comes down to it
At that point he'd become kind of moody and refuse to help you any more.
"No Pearl! I'm not helping you pick up glass again. Its boring. Maybe if you'd stop breaking stuff I'd be having fun again."
If he learned how to walk normally after living 16 of his years without legs at and you still can't when you were born with them? Then that's on you
Any damages you inflict are your fault for not being able to human properly in his eyes
That attitude changes quick the first time you get injured enough that you either sprain a limb or start bleeding
Then Floyd refuses to allow you to walk anymore
Clearly you can't be trusted, but don't worry, Your Eel in Shining Armour will carry you everywhere you go, so you never have to put your feet on the ground ever again
And yes, if he finds out you've been asking he will get pouty and mad
Does he care that its an unreasonable and quite frankly dumb restriction he's placed on you
Not at all
So you better either ask for those essonne he got to learn to walk, or suck it up and never use you legs again.
Tumblr media
He's actually way more concerned about your health than anything you could possibly break
Kalim would fuss over every bruise you get
He doesn't really know why you're so clumsy but accepts it as part of who you are
So he mostly tries to steer you away from sharp edges.
Reminds you of low hanging doorways
Or of that one uneven step going up to history class you always trip over
Tries his best to be supportive even though he genuinely worries for you
"Baby, are you okay? I saw that tumble you took there. Are you sure your ankle is okay?"
Convinces you to start dancing with him more often. It helps with coordination, so hopefully you'll have fun while also learning about where your body parts are in relation to the world so you stop hurting yourself all the time
You did give Jamil a stroke the first time you broke something expensive.
Kalim had to spend a while bringing him back down from that episode.
Tumblr media
Wants to immediately wrap you in bubble wrap 2.0
Jamil is genuinely so stressed out by you being clumsy
Like at the rate you keep almost pitching yourself off of the balcony, Jamil will have a full head of grey hair before he's 20
He tries to be sympathetic
But after the 3rd time you dropped someone fragile because you bumped into a doorway in one hour?
He gave up
"You know what? Thats it. I'm done. No more of you flailing around like this Blossom. Either you learn to walk like a human and not a freshly born deer. Or i will do something about this."
Jamil will not allow you into the dorm unless you are riding on his back
He has hidden and locked away everything that you could possibly destroy
Thats right Jamil baby proofed his dorm room because of you
Good news is while he'll scold you for being so clumsy, he will bandage you up if you get hurt.
Will eventually beg you to go to the doctors. Because this level of clumsiness could be a sign of some underlying health conditions.
Tumblr media
An actual Knight in Shining armour
Probably the most normal if all the second years when it comes to your clumsy nature
Silver will request that you allow him to escort you between your classes, as well as back home.
Genuinely very sweet how he does ensure that you remain relatively unharmed
Silver keeps his arm looped around your waist as you walk together
He'll guide you away from sharp corner and make sure to look out for things you could break accidentally
His reflexes are no joke either. He can catch most things you knock over before they hit the ground
All while he keeps his arm secure around your waist.
He is super caring every time you get injured, he even carries around a bunch of cute bandaids with little cats on them for you
"Love, please just let me take care of these for you. You fell down a flight of stairs, and skinned your knees. I can bandage them for you."
All in all, Silver is so sweet to you. 10/10 for a clumsy person looking for someone.
Tumblr media
Thank you for the request Dear. The rules do say not to ask for more than 5, but due to how the fact i haven't been posting as much recently as I'd like to I did do all of them. this turned into ace being insufferable and grim being slightly less insufferable and i went SO overboard oopsie
RUGGIE BUCCHI + 💞 (1k event details)
~~~~~
Honestly, it was only a matter of time before your friends started to get suspicious. You and Ruggie could only sneak around for so long, brushing up against each other in the hallways and linking pinkies while you walked. He could only steal so many sneaky hugs under stairwells and on trips to Sam’s Shop until your friends noticed you’d been gone more than usual.
It’s not like you two were keeping your affection for each other a secret on purpose. It just happened that way.
“Come on, tell us!” Ace huffs, though it sounds more like a whine from where you’re standing, “We deserve to know what you’ve been up to this past week!”
“Uh, no you don’t.” you shoot back, shaking your head adamantly.
“Just say it. We’ll stop bothering you then!” Ace snickers, aiming an undeserved jab at your side.
“It’s none of your business.” you say, turning away. That was supposed to be the end of the conversation, but—
“You don’t have a boyfriend, right?’ Grim blurts, blinking up at you.
You sputter, and Ace nearly falls over in shock.
“You what?!” he gasps, placing a hand over his heart, “Prefect, how could you!?”
Well, you suppose it was only a matter of time before someone found out.
“Like I said, none of your business. Now goodbye, Ace.” you grab his wrist and tug him towards Ramshackle’s front door.
“Who is it? Is it Trey? Cater? Oh, please don’t tell me it’s Deuce!” Ace babbles, trying to yank his wrist out of your hold, “It better not be Riddle!”
“He isn’t even in Heartslabyul!” you throw your free hand into the air, exasperated.
“Savanaclaw?” Ace guesses, staring you down eagerly.
You say nothing.
“Ruggie!” Grim yells, flailing his little paws in the air, “You’re dating Ruggie!”
“Ugh, no! We aren’t dating yet!” you whip around to face Grim, a sour look on your face.
“Yet?!” Ace shrieks, and you’re certain he couldn’t get any louder.
You smack your palm against your forehead and silently accept your fate.
