Do you think that albus being bad at magic is the only necessity in turns of his intelligence? Like if he was a genius at stuff like engineering would that change his character to much? (Aka is albus being really special and good at something make him a lesser character then what he is. Is him being bad at a lot of stuff Essential to him?)
No, I actually think it fits him! I believe Albus is just... not too good at magic. But he excels at things outside of school, especially if he's interested in them!
When I say "Albus isn't academically gifted", I don't mean he's stupid or anything. I do think he's smart! Just differently. He cares about the things he cares about, and if something benefits him or his end goal, he'll learn it. It's very Slytherin esque of him in my opinion. So no, him being very good at something doesn't lessen his character, but him being a brain wizz at everything ever would.
Similarly I think engineering is perfect for Albus! We know from the play that he enjoys making things more interesting, doing things differently than the norm (usually which are more fun). He's great at making plans and only needs help at roughing out the details and the final execution. Why wouldn't he love creating and fixing things? I mean the Time Turner was a very intricate piece of equipment and we know he was interested in that.
Anywho, you shouldn't characterise Albus differently from how you want just because I said its ooc, I mean even I don't characterise him 100% correctly in my writing, sometimes I like to change parts of his personality or flanderize aspects to make it more fresh and original. But if you're aiming to try make him realistic to his play self... I suppose I'm not THAT bad of a place to start (pushes up my glasses like an anime character and chuckles like "kekekeke").
Thanks for the ask anon!!! ^_^
