Battle of the Fear Bands!
B5R3: The Lonely
How to Disappear Completely:
“How to quietly disappear”
youtube
Hold Me:
“When your boyfriend leaves to go to space and then (allegedly) dies in space but he actually just turns into a space superhero or supervillain (depending on the timeline)”
youtube
Lyrics below the line!
How to Disappear Completely:
That there That's not me I go Where I please
I walk through walls I float down the Liffey I'm not here This isn't happening I'm not here I'm not here
In a little while I'll be gone The moment's already passed Yeah, it's gone And I'm not here This isn't happening I'm not here I'm not here
Strobe lights and blown speakers Fireworks and hurricanes I'm not here This isn't happening I'm not here I'm not here
Hold Me:
You told me You'd hold me Hold me til the mornin' light You craved me You saved me Saved me from my own foolish blight You're gone now I'm strong now Strong enough to cry only at night I see now It can't be now Now that you're away And I wish that I could be like the desert He never seems to cry I wish that I could be like the ocean She never needs to ask why I'm a lonely lady only Lonely lady only You told me You'd hold me Hold me til the mornin' light You craved me You saved me Saved me from myself And I wish that I could be like my father He always knew what was right I wish that I could be like my mother She always tucked me in tight I'm a lonely lady only Lonely lady only You told me You'd hold me Hold me til the mornin' light You craved me You saved me Saved me from own foolish blight.

favorite songs game!
i was tagged by @sotc (thank you i love love music games) to share some favorite songs I'm listening to right now!
you'll notice that all these songs are kinda similar. summer is too warm for metal of any kind, so it's emo/indie/hardcore time. and i feel like it all goes back to that one summer vacation in france where i listened to billy talent and placebo exclusively.
Decks Dark by Radiohead
i've been obsessed with this song since last year. i got to it through the Ozarks series where it's playing with an aerial shot of the lakes. and it kicked off my Radiohead phase even though i found them too slow and boring in the past (right time, i guess). i don't know, the song just hits some specific summer sadness nostalgia buttons for me. somehow ethereal and sober reality at once. my OC Jonathan was kind of inspired by this vibe (and the TV series).
Death After Life by Landscapes
this song like nothing else hits the summer depression vibe for me. when everything's too bright, the streets are empty and the asphalt burns. i love Landscapes. good band. wish they were still around.
We vs Us by Birds in Row
i could have put any Birds in Row song here, honestly. probably my favorite still active hardcore band. i saw them live a couple months ago and it was awesome. good vibes. good music. their EP with Coilguns is still my record of the year.
Why It Scares Me by La Dispute
i've been obsessed with this song since it came out in 2010 and i recently re-discovered it. it's the lyrics that just hit home hard when i was a teen and struggling. i was going to copy the best parts here but it's too much. read them here. this whole split with Touché Amoré Searching for a Pulse/Worth of the World is really good and one of most treasured records that i own. And if my heart just stops, pack my memories in it I wanna know all the love I've got And if my heart just stops, keep me alive for a minute I wanna know if a curtain drops
All Of My Prophets by Waxwing
the guitar here throws me back to Boys Like Girls' The Great Escape though this one was certainly released before. i only discovered this band recently and another one that scratches that summer nostalgia burning depression itch for me. love the scratchy voice. the whole album is good. i'm still looking to buy the vinyl.
tagging: @m0urnwatch @astrangedoor @electrosquash @eatingthebodyofgod @discodiablo and anyone else who enjoys music and follows me (let me know and i'll tag you in music games in the future, too). i love reading about what people listen to.

Are you a swiftie? And if so what song of hers would you say describes the 22-23 Devils? What song of hers would you say is NicoJack or any other Devils pairs!
heya anon! I'm not really a Taylor Swift kind of person - I much prefer my alternative, rock, that kind of stuff. but I'll give you some songs I associate with some players, pairs, etc on the Devils! if that's cool with you? I'll put one lyric I really associate with them with it; if you want more info, let me know and I'll explain more in-depth :) (there are a few songs I associate with non-Devils but I'll save that for another time, if anyone wants to know just let me know!) there's no real order to these, just going through my playlists lol
22-23 Devils: Say it Louder, Panic! at the Disco (Viva Las Vengeance)
Hey kids, legends and gods Give them applause We made it against all odds Choose your weapon of choice Your beautiful voice Don't ever let 'em turn you down (turn it up, turn it up, rock city) Turn it up (turn it up, turn it up, rock city) Say it louder for the people Say it louder for the people Say it louder for the people in the back
Round 1 vs the Rangers: Back from the Dead, Skillet (Unleashed)
Light it up, light it up, now I'm burning Feel the rush, feel the rush of adrenaline We are young, we are strong, we will rise 'Cause I'm back, back, back from the dead tonight To the floor, to the floor, hit the red line Flying high, flying high at the speed of light Full of love, full of light, full of fight 'Cause I'm back, back, back from the dead tonight
Pairings (there are only a few I can think of, but let me know if there are any I'm missing):
Nico + Jack: The Last of the Real Ones, Fall Out Boy (MANIA)
I was just an only child of the universe And then I found you And then I found you You are the sun and I am just the planets Spinning around you Spinning around you You were too good to be true Gold plated But what's inside you? But what's inside you? I know this whole damn city thinks it needs you But not as much as I do As much as I do, yeah
Nico + Siegs: Mariners Apartment Complex, Lana Del Rey (Norman Fucking Rockwell)
You lose your way, just take my hand You're lost at sea, then I'll command your boat to me again Don't look too far, right where you are, that's where I am I'm your man I'm your man
Dougie + Jack: La Mancha Taxi Driver, Budka Suflera (4 Pieces to Go) [SPECIFICALLY the English version - the Polish version called "Ragtime" is also amazing, but the lyrics are totally different. This one you NEED to listen to to get where I'm coming from, because there's a VERY specific vibe I'm going for here. This doesn't seem like a Dougiejack song at first, but if you listen between the lines...]
Since I know Every man is to fight all alone I'll be the one who helps you realize Good news Don't you turn your back on this love Answer Otherwise you'll be drowned in this world
Mikey + Nate: All I Need, Radiohead (In Rainbows) [this entire album gives me Superbuddies vibes tbh]
I am a moth Who just wants to share your light I'm just an insect Trying to get out of the night I only stick with you 'Cause there are no others You are all I need You're all I need I'm in the middle of your picture Lying in the reeds
Players (Selected):
Akira Schmid: Driver 8, R.E.M. (Fables of the Reconstruction)
And the train conductor says Take a break, Driver 8 Driver 8, take a break We've been on this shift too long And the train conductor says Take a break, driver 8 Driver 8, take a break We can reach our destination But we're still a ways away, but it's still a ways away
Ryan Graves: Sober Up, AJR (The Click)
Won't you help me sober up? Growin' up, it made me numb And I wanna feel somethin' again Won't you help me sober up? All the big kids, they got drunk And I want to feel somethin' again Won't you help me feel somethin' again? How's it go again?
Dawson Mercer: Scenariusz dla moich sąsiadów, Myslovitz (Z Rozmyślań Przy Śniadaniu) [A scenario for my neighbors, Myslovitz (Thoughts at Breakfast)]
Wieczorem Wieczorem przed mym domem Wystawie ekran I wyświetlę film Coś o mnie i o tobie Będę leczył chore sąsiadów sny
[In the evening In the evening in front of my house I'll put up a screen And I'll play a movie Something about me and about you I'll heal my sick neighbors' dreams]
Miles Wood: Shark Bite, Bush (The Art of Survival)
These are the days for the rest of our lives We are the ghosts 'cause we have survived Engine's on, sharp like a samurai I want you, I know your shark bite
Mackenzie Blackwood: Just, Radiohead (The Bends)
You do it to yourself, you do And that's why it really hurts Is that you do it to yourself, just you You and no one else You do it to yourself You do it to yourself
Jack Hughes: Reptilia, The Strokes (Room on Fire)
He seemed impressed by the way you came in "Tell us a story, I know you're not boring" I was afraid that you would not insist "You sound so sleepy, just take this, now leave me" I said please don't slow me down if I'm going too fast You're in a strange part of our town
John Marino: The Outsider, MARINA (The Family Jewels)
These people are weird in here And they're giving me the fear Just because you know my name Doesn't mean you know my game I look myself in the face And whisper "I'm in the wrong place" Is there more to lose than gain If I go on my own again?
Timo Meier: California, Lana del Rey (Norman Fucking Rockwell)
You're scared to win, scared to lose I've heard the war was over if you really choose The one in and around you You hate the heat, you got the blues Changing like the weather, oh, that's so like you The Santa Ana moves you (Two, three, four)
Erik Haula: Local God, Panic! at the Disco (Viva Las Vengeance)
Are you melting face at the Bellagio? Woah Or are you teaching little kids how to rock 'n' roll? Woah Did you get weighed down by your heart of gold? 'Cause you really only cared about that Wonder if you had a chance to sell your soul Did you ever get your money back? Did you ever kiss the devil?
There might be more coming in edits :) Also, forgive the random few non-italicized letters, Tumblr hates me :')

Offtopic, but Creep by Radiohead has me thinking. It could be for so many characters in The Outsiders, and with different meanings for each of them with different scenarios. Or the different lyrics for the different characters.
For Dallas, it could be like a breakup between him and Sylvia (or his little soc gf *cough* corvyes *cough*)
Tim - It could be about how he liked a girl, but the girl didn't like him? I'm not really sure, but I do think this is him.
Randy - when he got drunk with Bob the night that Cherry and Marcia left them at the drive-in.
Johnny - how he wished his parents saw him vs how they see him.
Ponyboy - At the rumble, he notices that his gang isn't like the Brumly Boys, or the Shepards. They aren't criminals, like them. This also relates how he (and other greasers) are seen by society and why Cherry won't interact with him at school. He wants to be friends with Cherry, and maybe more than that but Cherry doesn't want to because of her reputation. She cares too much for it.
This is exactly what I’m talking about Ash, this is great, this is everything I love to see, I love this breakdown for all these characters because it fits so well

drop your top 10 fnaf songs now pls
didn’t know if you meant actual fan songs or songs i associate with fnaf so i did five of each!! i could speak about all of these songs for hours so i WON’T but if you’re curious pls ask ^_^
1. I CAN’T FIX YOU / THE LIVING TOMBSTONE
OKAY THIS SONG GETS ME. You’ve been mourning your loss here and that’s grinding my gears, how can a human lose their self control? There’s nothing left to make you whole GETS ME. I LOVE Circus Baby & her story and everything about her so this song drives me wild already (unless i’ve interpreted it wrong and it’s not about baby in which case. oops!). the fact she’s speaking to william here and how frustrating it is for her that he’s MOURNING while his hands are covered in blood (her blood). this is such a bitter sad song and it makes me crazy so have some more lyrics that make me insane!
You oversaturate your world with nothing but machines. You might make everyone happy, but you’re dead inside, just like me. And now we’re here at a standstill — I wonder if you feel the kind of pain that puts your insides out (that’s something I know all about).
2. AFTON FAMILY / APANGRYPIGGY
i mean you KNOW my obsession with the afton family. you KNOW how bad it is. switching between each of the afton children and william (WHERE IS MRS AFTON. WHERE IS SHE. WHERE’S THE LOML) is such an interesting take on the song and you already know that the family is my main point of interest in the lore !!! also the chorus just SLAPS: all stay strong, we live eternally! all is well in the afton family vs lives, they fell to pure insanity! all is hell in the afton family is good ok. like i am a simple person with simple pleasures. a good bit of lyrical contrast is one of them ^_^
3. DRAWN TO THE BITTER / DHEUSTA
HENRY AND WILLIAM SONG. HENRY AND WILLIAM SONG. WHAT’S NOT TO BE OBSESSED WITH. if those other two songs weren’t so good then this would be ranked higher tbh!!! i am a SUCKER for this song and also for the pre to post diner era. to me it sounds like it’s from william’s perspective too as he reminisces on the past (a loss of precious life, a part of me died inside that night) and that makes it so much better for me…. the tragedy unfolding through the verses while the chorus drills home how inevitable the events were always going to be … tragedy is drawn to the bitter and william is the most bitter one out there :’)
4. FIVE MORE NIGHTS / JT MUSIC
fun fact!!! i heard this song before five long nights and i love them both. this one slips by into being in my favorite five list though. just a good old fashioned low lore song and it makes me so damn hyped and reminds me of the core of the franchise. the edits i see to this part of the song — did you listen to the vision you saw? as the clock keeps ticking we’ll be giving you more — do you remember the original four? take a look at us now, ‘cause our condition is poor! we were left to decay in this dark troubled place… — fucking rock ok. like all of them. this song is a bop idc
5. BELOW THE SURFACE / GRIFFINILLA
first fnaf song i ever heard so it holds a special place in my heart :3 also because sl is one of my fav games (that im gonna be playing on stream later most likely YAYY)!! his voice means to deceive you, my voice just wants to lead you. i used to squint a little at the line built without purpose because well . they WERE built with purpose. but in my understanding of the lore, these ones were the first to be built for purposes OTHER than fun/family etc, so they lack an innocent purpose so i get that part of the song now agdkhd. also who can resist exotic butters as the outro huh. c good song, v catchy, it’s gonna be stuck in my head all day now !
—
1. NO SURPRISES / RADIOHEAD
another afton family insp. song, by which i mean i loop this while writing anything remotely sad about the franchise and cry endlessly over them!!! I’m probably gonna do an ACTUAL line by line analysis of this and how it relates to my will & mike writing, but have a few for now: a job that slowly kills you (both mike & will), you look so tired and unhappy (the job destroying who william once was), i’ll take a quiet life, a handshake of carbon monoxide, no alarms and no surprises (see last bits of analysis), this is my final fate (both of them, father and son, facing painful ends at the hands of animatronics). and then of course we have such a pretty house and such a pretty garden no alarms and no surprises (get me out of here) because so MUCH of the toxicity in the household was so insidious. a carbon monoxide death. william’s effect on the rest of the family poisoned them slowly and michael was resigned to it for so much of his life (no alarms and no surprises) but inwardly wanted out so BAD (get me out of here). this song fucking destroys me!
2. THE MIND ELECTRIC / CHONNY JASH
a cassidy song in my mind. especially this version! really does well at highlighting the bitterness and hatred she feels for william. “this creature hardly resembles a man, my logic is the absolute, his pity parties simply harm these chances at an apt repute esteemed regard in place of mockery” like YES!!! read him!!! have more that’s just SO fitting for the dynamic of these two:
3. KISS ME, SON OF GOD / THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS
4. SICK ON SEVENTH STREET / SARAH & THE SAFE WORD
5. THE DEAD COME TALKING / ROE KAPARA
#(o) ooc#(i.c) all is hell; headcanons#(( not really but these songs inform my writing of William so!))

I think tumblr ate my ask or it just didn't sent but what are your favorite Bastille songs / what are some songs you recommend?
i did NOT get this ask im very sorry anon.
it's genuinely hard for me to narrow down cause bastille is pretty up there in terms of favorite artists. i love all their shit, but a special mention goes out to their second studio album wild world since it's the one that made me a Fan
uh so here's a primer i guess i spent too much time on this lmao.
if you wanna listen to their big hits:
flaws - their first single in the uk. if you ever listened to ship playlists on 8tracks in like 2013-2015 then you've probably heard this song or a variant on it at some point.
pompeii - this is the song that really put them on the map and you definitely know it. it dominated the charts all over the place.
happier - the marshmello song that you've definitely heard before too. i think bastille wrote this for justin bieber or some shit but then decided they liked it too much to give it to him? lmao. anyway if you're not digging the version you hear on the radio all the time i recommend trying the stripped down version
good grief - their big hit off their second album. big in the uk, didn't really make as many waves elsewhere, but it's a really solid song anyway. one of those "upbeat tunes that's actually really fucking sad" ones
things we lost in the fire - another one off their first album. if you live in a wildfire area this might not be one to turn to. or maybe you'll find it cathartic idk i certainly do!!
quarter past midnight - a song about escapism, as was fitting when it was released in 2018 and equally fitting now. running away for a night of fucking around with friends, craving any kind of brief departure from the chaos of the modern world
skulls - this one was not a hit or a single and is technically a bonus track but i'm including it because once again if you ever clicked on a ship playlist on 8tracks in like 2013-2015 you've heard this one. and you know what that was justified this one is also good
if you wanna feel existentially depressed:
their whole discography. i mean i kid but i also don't. that's just kind of how bastille does it. BUT IN ALL SERIOUSNESS ones that hit me in particular would beeee
two evils - kind of a grim, haunting one introspecting about morality of the self.
oblivion - musing about the afterlife, love, and how time changes all of us.
those nights - contemplating what it is we seek when we plunge into reckless escapism, and the inherent loneliness of it; how even when surrounded by people there's still the pressure of the world outside, continuously coming to pieces
the draw - this one was written about the pull of pursuing a career in music vs. staying home with family and friends. in a broader sense, it can apply to a lot of things. i always felt it resonated with feelings of paranoia and displacement
winter of our youth - discusses childhood, nostalgia, and regret. if it feels like everything's slipping away, is it easier to relive the past, especially if the past is tinted rose?
sleepsong - loneliness, desperation, and the cyclical, abyss-like nature of all it encapsulates
if you want discussion of serious topics:
final hour - a bonus track off their second album that also became a bonus track off their third album? anyway this song talks about climate change and gun control. happy stuff
doom days - this one talks about, uh, everything! doomscrolling, political divides, escalating national tensions, climate change again, etc.
the currents - a song centered on political rhetoric and the power that figureheads have over the masses, the way they can orchestrate hate. basically it's not so subtly aimed at donald trump lmao, dan's literally sung it as much in a few live settings
WHAT YOU GONNA DO??? - social media addiction and the way capitalism and corporate interests have annexed our online experiences, fighting desperately for our attention as they seek to monetize every available aspect of our lives
four walls (the ballad of perry smith) - well this one is about uh. perry smith. who was charged with the death penalty for killing 4 people in the late 50's. but it's less directly about him and more a discussion of the morality of the death penalty and capital punishment
snakes - burgeoning anxieties and the impulse to turn to easy outs, like ignorance or alcoholism, to escape the world's global problems
if you want some pop culture sprinkled on top:
icarus - greek mythology. i like this one because it addresses something that i feel isn't addressed enough in discussions of this myth, which is that icarus is a very young lad. less about the pride of the fall, and more about the inherent tragedy of that.
laura palmer - the whole song is a david lynch shoutout. i've never seen twin peaks myself but the song still slaps.
daniel in the den - christian mythology. discusses the biblical tale of daniel in the lion's den and links that up to themes of betrayal and family.
poet - this one's a double feature, referencing both william shakespeare's sonnet 18 and edmund spencer's sonnet 75. also one of my favorites.
send them off! - this is another one of my favorites of theirs. it's also been described by dan as "othello meets the exorcist" and it very much delivers there
if you want something uplifting:
joy - while bastille (understandably) has a bit of reputation as a band that makes sad music about sad things, they've definitely got some happier songs in their catalogue. pun intended cha ching. this one's one of their more straightforwardly happy tunes
survivin' - this was a song they wrote while they were touring and then felt weird about releasing once the panini hit because it felt a bit on the nose. they ended up releasing it anyway and i am so glad they did cause it's a mood
act of kindness - the "happy" part here is debatable but i'm gonna include it anyway. it’s when someone does something nice for you and that impulse Changes you way down deep you know???
warmth - one of those "the world's going to shit but at least we have each other" kinds of tunes
the anchor - one of those "the world's going to shit but you're the one fucking thing that's still keeping me here" kinds of tunes
give me the future - their latest single as of this writing and one of the more optimistic tracks in their catalogue imo! it's yearning, but it's also with a genuine hope for the future.
and LASTLY. because im going to take every chance i can to plug this band. im going to throw some collabs and covers at you because there's one thing this band does SUPER well and it's collabs and covers.
of the night - this is the big one. it mashes up rhythm of the night by corona and rhythm is a dancer by SNAP! and it's so good they still do this one live and it goes off every time.
no angels - a mashup of "no scrubs" by TLC and "angels" by the xx, poured into a strangely mournful tune with clips from the hitchcock movie psycho. doesn't sound like it should work but it does. kinda really does.
torn apart - with GRADES and lizzo no less!!! it's got two parts but they're both excellent listen to them both
weapon - collab with angel haze, dan priddy, and F*U*G*Z and one of my absolute favorites
remains - remix of their song "skulls" but featuring rag'n'bone man and skunk anansie that adds an entire new dimension to the song, really fucking excellent
old town road mashup - lil nas x's old town road meets lizzo's good as hell meets radiohead's talk show host meets talking heads' road to nowhere meets the osmond's crazy horse. "what the fuck that shouldn't work" i KNOW and yet here it is!! BLATANTLY BANGING!!!
we can't stop - one of the few times dan smith subtly changes the lyrics of the song he's covering (most of the time he opts to keep the original pronouns and the like, which is very nice to see). anyway this one mixes miley cyrus's we can't stop with eminem's lose yourself and billy ray cyrus's achy breaky heart. and also the lion king's i just can't wait to be king is there. yes i know it sounds batshit especially because the whole thing is surprisingly melodic and heartfelt and you know what it works.
anyone but me x nightmares - mashing up joy crookes' anyone but me with easy life's nightmares and absolutely one of my favorites.
bad guy mashup - how many songs can they include with the word "bad" in the title? we've got bad guy (billie eilish), bad decisions (bastille), bad romance (lady gaga), and bad blood (taylor swift). bastille even has a song called bad blood and they didnt use it. they used taylor swift's version. also the distinctive guitar riff from dick dale's misirlou is there.
somebody mashup - how many songs can they include with the word "some" in the title? someone like you (adele), somebody told me (the killers), somebody to love (queen), use somebody (kings of leon), and someone you loved (lewis capaldi). seriously these guys take mashups to a new level.
final song - this is a cover of MØ's final song. it also adds in craig david's 7 days and, impossibly enough, europe's final countdown. how does it work. how.
ALL RIGHT. THATS ALL IVE GOT IN ME. HOPE THIS HELPED ANON AND IM SORRY IF THIS IS TOO MUCH
#askin hours#anon#bastille#ill put this in the bastille tag why not#this is predominantly a fall out boy blog but if any bastille bloggers are out there....all like 20 of you....#i see the work u do in this fandom and i love u for it

i love music and torchwood so i'll just vent about songs that fit with jack and ianto (because they're my fixations and i just can't think about anything else)
jack and ianto dancing to Heroes by David Bowie and then the line "though nothing will keep us together, we can steal time... just for one day" comes up
when ianto is dying in children of earth (yeah im quite obsessed with this scene, sue me) When The Party's Over by Billie Eillish comes up. and as jack begs ianto to save his breath, the lines "tore my shirt to stop you bleeding, but nothing ever stops you leaving" come up (the whole song applies to jack's immortality vs ianto's mortality but this line just hits SO. HARD.)
let's be honest jack has done some truly TERRIBLE things and i bet he feels like a monster... but i think not when he's in love. i think his hard feelings about himself soften up whenever he's loving someone and has that person loving him back. So i really think of Perfect Day by Lou Reed and the lines "just a perfect day. you made me forget myself. i thought i was someone else... someone good"
and on this note: How Soon Is Now by The Smiths with the line "I am human and I need to be loved just like everybody else does" because no one can call him a monster besides him
AND EVEN FURTHER: Speedway by Morrissey. this one is just so much but i'll put some lines here (imagine writing something based on this song)
"all of the rumors keeping me grounded, i never said that they were completely unfounded"
"and all those lies: written lies, twisted lies... well, they weren't lies, they weren't lies, they weren't lies"
"i've always been true to you. in my own strange way, i've always been true to you. in my own sick way, i've always stayed true to you"
and Karma Police by Radiohead is THE PERFECT SONG for Cyberwoman. The lines "karma police. i've given all i can, it's not enough... i've given all i can" represents just the complete sense of hopelessness of ianto when losing lisa because he had given all he could, all he had to torchwood. and then "this is what you get when you mess with us" represents jack's inevitable roughness with dealing with the team. if ianto messed with the team, jack had to do something about it, he had no other choice.
and right after, No Surprises by Radiohead. "A heart that's full up like a landfill, a job that slowly kills you... Bruises that won't heal" perfectly encapsulates ianto's feelings, his bruises, after lisa dies. "I'll take a quiet life, a handshake of carbon monoxide. No alarms and no surprises" because I bet he considered the idea of quitting Torchwood and being retconned. ianto hated his life before torchwood, but the feeling of being useless and not having a purpose hurted way less than losing lisa. So he wants to forget it all, take a quiet life, even though he would still be in pain anyway. No rift alarms and no surprises for him.
jack. and Lazzarus by David Bowie. I don't even have a specific line (maybe "I was looking for your ass". iconic.) because this song is just so him
and Garden by Pearl Jam when Ianto falls in love with jack because of "I will walk with my hands bound, I will walk with my face blood, I will walk with my shadow flag into your garden of stone" which means that ianto will walk to HELL with jack (and it also sounds a lot like wedding vows, if y'all will allow me to be poetic)
jack. When You Were Young by The Killers. He doesn't look a thing like Jesus but talks like a gentleman-----
AND THIS IS THE FLUFFIEST ONE: when ianto falls in love with jack and has the chance to heal from his traumas, has jack to wake him up at night whenever he's having a terrible nightmare, i think of Like A Child Again by The Mission because of the most beautiful lines "I'm not scared anymore, I'm not scared of the dark when I sleep with you" (no but seriously i actually cry when i think about this one too much). and since ianto had a goth phase i BET he listened to his song and cried so much as a teen (huhhh maybe i'm projecting, let's get to the next one)
and Ordinary World by Duran Duran that talks about losing a beloved one and basically seeing their ghost everywhere you go reminds me that jack felt so much pain after ianto died he couldn't bare to stay on earth. he could've moved to any other country, but the earth as a WHOLE reminded him of ianto. that was the power ianto had on him.
Slipped Away by Avril Lavigne when Jack goes away to the year that never was (ok that one was predictable)
Ianto is such a soft person and his way of loving must be so wholesome and this has nothing to do with the lyrics but I genuinely think Mary by Big Thief is the way Ianto loves. I can't explain but you'll hopefully understand it when you listen to the song. i think it's the musical equivalent of receiving a kiss on the forehead of someone you love very much.
I really have written a chapter where Ianto and Jack are talking about immortality and Ianto just fears death so much he asks "and if I die here now, wishing wells and magic spells and everything between, can you tell me what it's like? Or how it's going to be?" which are the last lines of How It's Going To Be by Gerard Way
this took a long time to write but I hope you enjoyed!!! I definitely want to know your thoughts about the songs in the comments

read more for some lyrics. click here to listen.
BLUE LIGHT by MAZZY STAR: There's a ship / That sails by my window There's a ship that sails on by / There's a world under it / I think I see it / Sailing away / I think it's sailing / Miles crashing me by / Crashing me by / Crashing me by
This is the song Wren chose to describe themselves; it really speaks to that feeling of not really belonging, not even really being alive that they’re often caught up in. As if life is a wave crashing them by.
I’M SO AFRAID by FLEETWOOD MAC: I been alone / All the years / So many ways to count the tears / I never change / I never will / I'm so afraid the way I feel / Days when the rain and the sun are gone / Black as night / Agony's torn at my heart too long / So afraid / Slip and I fall and I die
A bit dramatic, but this song speaks to Wren deeply. Also, Fleetwood Mac.
LAST WORDS OF A SHOOTING STAR by MITSKI: I always wanted to die clean and pretty / But I'd be too busy on working days / So I am relieved that the turbulence wasn't forecasted / I couldn't have changed anyways / I am relieved that I'd left my room tidy / Goodbye
In this song Mitski sings as if she’s in a plane crashing. Wren would react similarly, think about how nice it is that they’ve left their room tidy for the ones they leave behind, reflect on their life with a sadness.
TURN OUT THE LIGHTS by JULIEN BAKER: There's a hole in the drywall still not fixed / I just haven't gotten around to it / And besides, I'm starting to get used to the gaps [...] I can't tell the difference when I'm all alone / Is it real or a dream, which is worse? / Can you help me? / I just wanted to go to sleep / When I turn out the lights / There's no one left / Between myself and me
That feeling when you come home and suddenly there’s nothing to distract you of who you are and how you feel and god. This song fucks me up, and it does the same to Wren.
17 by JADE BIRD: I say less than I should / I say more than I mean / I would try if I could, but I'm all I can be / If I had more I would change the cover, you see / I have walls that have stood / Before you ever loved me
Wren vs. the endless struggle of trying to connect to people when they’ve trapped themselves behind their walls.
MY MOTTO by JADE BIRD: And that's my motto / Don't let 'em near enough / To let me down / All this love ever does is / Break me now
Once again: Wren vs. the endless struggle of trying to connect to people.
FIRE by AMY MAY ELLIS: Today, my mind is working in a peculiar way / Today, I'm doubting every single word I say / Today, so please excuse my silence / So please excuse my silence, so please excuse me [...] But I’ve got fire / Got far more fire
Wren may be a MESS, but they do have fire, and drive, and potential. It’s not all sad, depressing shit.
ABBEY by MITSKI: I am hungry / I have been hungry / I was born hungry
Famine gang square up! This entire song is Wren. Makes me cry.
HUNGER by FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE: I thought that love was a kind of emptiness / And at least I understood then, the hunger I felt / And I didn't have to call it loneliness / We all have a hunger
Love as an emptiness. Goes feral. (Famine gang square up!)
FORWARDS BECKON REBOUND by ADRIANNE LENKER: Mystery of lack / Stabbing stars through my back / Forwards, beckon, rebound [...] Show me pictures that hang in your house / Pictures that hang in your mouth / Candescent insects / Crosses and fishnecks
A lot of Vibes in this song. Show me pictures that hang in your house: Wren would ask this.
HEY MOON by JOHN MAUS: Hey moon, it's just you and me tonight / Everyone else is asleep / Hey moon, if I was to fall / I won't fall so deep / Though I doubt I'm gonna / You can wake me up if you wanna / I would hate for you to hang there all alone / The whole night through
A song for the moon? Yeah. Wren. Wren would stay awake so the moon isn’t alone.
#& character development.#this is the playlist i started when i wrote wren's app!!! and have been adding onto ever since#& task.

Battle of the Fear Bands B3R2: The Flesh
Knives Out:
“A song about cruelty, about not knowing anything else.”
youtube
An Interlace of Bones:
youtube
Lyrics below the line!
Knives Out:
I want you to know He's not coming back Look into my eyes I'm not coming back So knives out Catch the mouse Don't look down Shove it in your mouth If you'd been a dog They would've drowned you at birth Look into my eyes It's the only way you'll know I'm telling the truth So knives out Cook him up Squash his head Put him in the pot I want you to know He's not coming back He's bloated and frozen Still there's no point in letting it go to waste So knives out Catch the mouse Squash his headPut him in the pot
An Interlace of Bones:
Take my flesh and shake it out Put it in the washing machine My heart is drying on the line While my skin is spinning clean Skeletons are hard to sleep with Bones are all that we have left Shin bones, pelvis, heavy femurs The chuckle of your fingers leaves me bereft I feel the cutting of your cheekbones On the temple of my skull The empty space of unlocked ribcage Once our hearts had made so full And in the morning we'll wake early Leave the curtains closed again Slowly wrap our muscles round our bones We'll take our organs from the wash Freshly laundered, clean as new And carefully replace them in their hollows Because this night will be our last We felt the need to wash the marks Of all the secrets shared together From our bodies and our hearts The teeth-bite bruise on lips and necks The sharp caress on shivering limbs If left too long after we're gone Would fray the fabric of our skin And in the morning we'll wake early Dress our skeletons again Trying not to catch each other's eye We'll smooth out wrinkles, settle seams Rewire our newly polished veins Cause we've already said our last goodbyes Over and again, over and again, over and again I'm just a bag of bones now Over and again, over and again, over and again I don't want you to go now Over and again, over and again, over and again You say it's better this way Over and again, over and again, over and again I'm just a bag of bones now Our memories of love are washed out, we're strangers now (Our skeletons remember) Lace and tie and zip our flesh back into place (Even if our love is over) Put on our clothes (I don't want you to go now) Open the door (You say it's better this way) Sharing secrets no more (I don't want you to leave me) I'd rather keep these memories instead of being clean and empty When we're clean and finally spotless, I give you one last kiss There's nothing, no response From the clean, soft flesh that used to be your lips

Pirate Material: Still Original
Saw some discussion of The Streets’s early work, and went to see if this article was still online - it’s not because the Vice brand partnership vertical (I’m sorry) that it was originally written for is gone. So here you go again!
I don't hold with the insidious theory that making brilliant art is a young man's game – or, in the words of Sickboy in Trainspotting, that “you have it, then you lose it”. It's a trope that's been with us since the beginning of rock'n'roll, dammit since the romantic poets, that idea that inspiration is intrinsically tied up with the energy of youth, that great works come like a bolt from the blue and artists are best off dying young1 rather than chasing round in ever-decreasing circles trying to relight your creative fire the rest of your sorry life. But it's clearly rubbish, a denial of craft and labour, put about by fantasists and advertisers and used as justification by those with a vested interest in keeping us emotionally immature and by the worst kind of poseurs for their ghastly Peter Pan antics.
Every so often, though, something I see or hear will make me think again – will make me have a flickering moment of belief in the essential white light of youthful creativity. And 'Original Pirate Material' is one of those things. I mean, have you heard it recently? Really heard it? Played it loud from the beginning, given it your full attention, let that utterly insane opening salvo of 'Turn the Page', 'Has it Come to This' and 'Let's Push Things Forward' work their magic on you? It's arm-hair raising stuff, it really is. The false hierarchies and dreary consensus of best-ever lists is another of those things I don't hold with, but yeah this really, really deserved to be on all those best-of-the-2000s lists, and I will gladly fight its corner against the Arctic Monkeys, Dizzee, Radiohead, Outkast, whatever you care to bring in fact.
Like almost all the best music, I didn't really get it at first. It was tinny-sounding and clattery, where I was used to dance music's oomph; I couldn't work out what Skinner's roaming accent was getting at as he slipped and slid across the rhythms, in and out of ordinary conversational cadence, lurching from sublime to ridiculous within single phrases. It was intriguing right enough, but it was impossible to shake the idea that it was all a bit contrived, an indie-weakened version of soundsystem/MC culture, or even more naggingly the idea that it was a wind-up, that this music was taking the piss out of all of us. Lines nicked from 'Gladiator' and talk about his Reeboks? Be serious. And then I had the epiphany.
The scene couldn't have been set better, really. I was out in Amsterdam for eight days on my first ever magazine feature assignment – to cover a conference on Amazon shamanic practice AND a High Times convention. I'd been hanging out with psychonauts, ravers, witch doctors2 and Dutch farmers, and experienced the best that ancient cultures and modern science had to offer; I was in a terrific mood as I was finally doing the job I'd always wanted to, and had been able to utter the immortal phrase “can I claim my ritual on expenses3, please?” on the phone to the Face magazine office. So when someone mentioned “that new band The Streets are playing the Melkweg” I was pretty much up for it.
The DJ beforehand, a Dutchman called Big Head, was playing what was generally known as “breakstep”, a kind of funky uncle to dubstep, and I liked it so much I bought his mix CD4. The Streets were very late coming on, but the crowd were raving and so was I, so who cared? When they did crash onto the stage, though, Skinner immediately and repeatedly asking the crowd if anyone had any cocaine, it was a glorious disruption of the groove, their sound spiky and awkward, and from the beginning I loved it. I don't remember a lot about the band except there was an ex-member of the Senseless Things5 on bass, and that Skinner and his co-vocalist spent a lot of the set pushing, shoving and trying to trip one another up.
And that's when it clicked into place: yes, this was a piss-take, but it was a deadly serious piss-take. This child-like 24-year-old was not just meandering between voices, themes and levels of seriousness, he was embodying every single one of them. He was a shaman too6. What was chaos and what was control became impossible to discern7. The only time I could remember seeing elemental clowning like this before on a stage was the Happy Mondays back in 1990, but I also recognised the spirit of so many loony rave urchins I'd been bamboozled and bantered at and had lighters stolen by over the years8, the never-ending babble of these Shakespearean monkeys, possessed by the endless power of the English language to spin out shaggy dog stories, to make jokes of the most serious matters and suddenly turn jokes deathly serious. The films that were projected as back stories to each of the tracks matched the quotidian urban subject matter of those songs – but they, like the lyrics and the music, revealed something so much more primal beneath. And still you could dance, laugh, drink and carouse to it.
Which is why, when I listen to 'Original Pirate Material' now, I don't hear “bloke poetry” or grittiness or mundanity or social realism any of those other things that are inevitably reeled out. I hear constant windows in to the most profound and abstracted of human instincts and experiences: vertigo, jealousy, transition, glory, loss, innocence and so much more. Just listen to the sudden swerves from domestic detail to dizzying generality in 'It's Too Late' or the affirmation and melancholy in 'Weak Become Heroes': these are about so, so much more than losing a girl or doing a pill9. They're about being human. Only years later did I start realising that Skinner was writing in a great English language tradition going a millennium back to Beowulf and taking in Sterne, Carroll, Lear, Pound, Spike Milligan, Ivor Cutler, Mark E Smith and Roots Manuva10, gibbering gobshites and bullshit artists, holy fools who could skip wildly into parts of our psyches where angels fear to tread.
He could never top this, could he? None of this is to dismiss Skinner's later work – he has on occasion made some glorious music and told some great tales since, and especially on 'Computers and Blues' when he turned full circle back to some of his early themes and freeform lyricism he showed he was tapped into the same wellspring – but 'Original Pirate Material' had it all. Everything afterwards, whether it's his narratives of modern life and celebrity, or his more philosophical turns, couldn't help but be self-conscious, trying to impose more structure onto what he had already expressed so perfectly in its rants, sketches, jokes and asides. This isn't about drugs, it's not about “authenticity”11, and it's not really about youth as such – others have tapped into this very British, very mongrel method of accessing the ways of the human mind from very different places and perspectives – but for Skinner it was all tied into a particular openness to everything that comes with being a hungry young man with his eyes (very) wide open.
--
1 See the infamous “27 Club”, much discussed when Amy Winehouse carked it, and so called because it's the number of times anyone who takes it seriously deserves to have their face walloped with a cricket bat.
2 To be precise, a shaman from the Shuar tribe of Ecuador who played the Jew's harp.
3 Yes, bloggers, these were the days when journalists got paid expenses. They were decadent times, the early 00s.
4 In fact it is sitting on my desk right now, and it still sounds good.
5 You think nonsense genre names like “Post Dubstep” or indeed “Breakstep” are silly? Back in the 90s, The Senseless things were lumped, along with Mega City 4 and Silverfish into a genre called Fraggle Rock. Seriously.
6 No Jew's harp though, just a microphone.
7 You want to know how giddy with the brilliance of it all I was feeling at that moment? My brain flashed up the image of Stockard Channing going “chaos... control... chaos... control... you like?” to Will Smith as Donald Sutherland spun a double-sided Kandinsky in 'Six Degress of Separation'. And what? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjwiachXkjc
8 One routine about fake vs real Nike caps that managed to weave in and out of between-song patter for almost the entire set was such archetypal rave bollocks that you'd swear you'd heard it before from someone who was about to do you out of a tenner at some party on a hillside.
9 They're about those things too, though.
10 Peter Ackroyd's 'Albion: the Origins of the English Imagination' is the book you need on this topic, although admittedly he doesn't get right the way through to Roots Manuva.
11 There's no such thing.

WHO HURT LOGAN WITH THEIR WORDS
LOGAN THE HEART SKIPPING COMMENT ARE YOU OKAY IM GIVING YOU A HUG
GUYS LOGAN IS TRYING TO CONVINCE HIMSELF THAT HE MATTERS IM NOT OKAY

Okay I'm not a shipper BUT my theorist analysis obsessed brain is just SCREAMING about Roman and Patton
Observation: Logan is probably atheistic and this song covers God a lot. I don't have a conclusion or anything just pointing that out
This woman do be calming tho like yes I'm beautiful yes I'm special thank you

Guys as someone who dissosiates a lot I think Logan might be dissosiating
Dissosiating to protect himself from his emotions
Y'all just trust me in this one
Coming for the TØP brand I see
K ready to start again here we go
Fire beat I'm vibing with it
Is he trying to distance himself from his emotions to try and perform his tasks better like watching from a Watchtower???
This is the first character I've seen that might dissosiate which only means one thing

Logan I've done this before and trust me it isn't worth it the mental breakdowns are too taxing
I'll do it when I'm older=I'm never gonna get around to it
I don't wanna be the person I wanna be either
Why do I perfectly understand every lyric am I ok
Live!!! While you!!!! Can!!!!
At least there's a happy ending
Okay so I've decided that once I'm done I'm gonna make a list of songs I think would fit in the playlist
Algorythym-Childish Gambino
K its spelled incorrectly get ready for some metaphors my dudes
Intro is cool definitely very very Logan WOAH OKAY CHAIN SMOKER

Roman vs Logan rap battle but it's this
I don't really see why this is related but sure
Time Adventure-The Marcus Hedgehog
Nostalgiaaaaaa
Okay Logan has too many songs talking about one (1) person who is it
I have a gut feeling that it's about Thomas and how Logan used to be enough "back then" but now he thinks he's not cause like let's be honest when was the last time someone gave Logan a strong sincere thank you for all that he does????Excluding DWIT (which doesn't really count in my opinion cause they said he was cool, not like an integral and arguably the most important and powerful side) nobody really appreciates Logan???? Hugs???
Anyway plz ignore this is just how my brain works
K next song
The Breach-clipping.
OKAY SLOW DOWN IM GONNA LOOK UP LYRICS
Is this Daveed Diggs???? I haven't listened to Hamilton in like forever is this Daveed Diggs???
LITERALLY PERFECY PARRALLEL TO LOGAN AND THE SIDES
Sound effects
Really just gonna fry my eardrums like that huh
What I Do For U-Ra Ra Riot
Okay scrap anything and everything I said about it being the sides Logan is 100% talking about Character!Thomas
Erase Me-Ben Folds Five
Ooh this intro reminds me of this one particular musical songs but I don't remember which one
Wait have I listened to this before????
I've listened to this before!
Okay I need to stop being distracted
NOOOOOO don't Erase Yourself!!!!
Logan really just do be having no Self Esteem don't he
Okay so theory: Logan didn't pop up in person in the last video because his eyes were too red from crying
I have 0 evidence so it's not a very good theory but…
Just throwing it out there
One More Time with Feeling-Regina Spektor
Oh no it's Regina Spektor
Oh no I'm gonna cry
Okay so Logan doesnt wanna block of all emotion, only permit some to show???? But most of the time block everything????
Did I get that???
Nobody!!!! Thanks!!!! Logan!!!!
Awww he just wants love and recognition
Tbh this sounds a lot like Roman they have so much in common despite their constant arguing
Galaxy Song-Monty Python
Ooh Monty Python
I haven't listened to Monty Python so I sadly don't know the context
Really just dissing all of the other sides aren't we
Can't really blame him tho
Very scientific
"Yeau~"
Sweet with dark undertones. Love it.
Equation-Hans Zimmer
Later I'm gonna check the equations if they're correct XD
Sunrise-In The Heights
!!!!!!
WHO???!!!!!
K to this is one of my favorite love songs ever it's just so sweet and as someone who's bilingual the concept is just amazingly wonderful so yeah I may be freaking out
Also because WHO??!!
Okay I said I wasn't a shipper but let's be honest this is probably about Roman not romantically but like

Vanity Hour with Yung Heazy
Hometown: Vancouver, Canada
Sounds like: If The Beatles and Mac Demarco decided to collab on a bedroom pop track.
WORDS BY: Thania Garcia
Jordan Heaney’s indie rock project, Yung Heazy, was initially created as an avenue for releasing mini love songs dedicated to Heaney’s girlfriend. The now-viral track “Cuz You’re My Girl” was uploaded (not by Heaney) to Youtube almost three years ago and since then, the project has become one of the most recognizable in the bedroom pop world.
Totally Vain: You first started to notice traction in plays when someone uploaded one of your songs on a popular Youtube channel. What was your initial reaction to that? I’m assuming no one contacted you about the upload or gave you any revenue for it either…?
YH: That is a correct assumption. The feeling I got was intense happiness and gratefulness to the universe. It’s still very surreal, I try not to think about it in fear I’ll go insane that all this is real life.
Back in September Heaney released the single “Kool Musik,” a dreamy almost four-minute enormously expressive track with scattered instrumentals. In the past, Heaney has expressed infatuation for hypnotic relationships in music referencing Radiohead’s “Rainbows” and Ariel Pink as inspiration which you can clearly hear in “Kool Musik.”
TV: With some songs like “Comfort” your musical influences, Mac Demarco & Ariel Pink, are present but what other artistic avenues do you pull from when you create? I mention this because your cover art and overall visual aesthetic is so spectacularly unique to your brand.
YH: I like lots of stuff when I write a song I try to fit as many musical experiments and references as possible. I think the last song I recorded took influence from Walkabout, Moving like Mike, Black Skinhead, Helter Skelter, and Readymade, Bad Guy, a whole set of songs. When I hear a cool musical moment I go, hmm how can I make that work in my world?
TV: What would you say were the defining moments or traits of your environment that inevitably shaped or influenced your start in music and your music industry experience?
YH: I was surrounded by music as a kid, specifically that of The Beatles and 60s/70s music my dad had on tape. I had music lessons regularly...such as violin at age four and then piano a few years later. What made me get invested in music properly was learning the guitar around age 13 and discovering the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
TV: What is the major difference when it comes to dictating your own music (production, writing, recording, performing) vs. with a band?
YH: In recording/producer world I can just do what I want and experiment, try to make everything sound nice and cool. With the band, I like to keep things a bit open-ended after everyone has learned the parts if someone has an idea on how to improve the song for the live show may as well try it out.
TV: Congratulations on landing a spot on the Tropicalia 2019 lineup! I think Tropicalia is doing a great job at catering to a specific audience of ‘indie’ ‘bedroom pop’ listeners along with catering to the Latinx community that greatly makes up a portion of that audience. How do you think the ‘bedroom pop’ community will evolve as we dive deeper into the digital age and the accessibility to recording and producing grows?
YH: It will become more diverse and split into subdivisions that will inspire completely new and unique genres and styles. It’s a beautiful thing that anyone can start recording music for dirt cheap these days.
TV: Do you feel restricted by the ‘bedroom pop’ label? Or do you feel being a part of that genre means you’re free to mix and match thanks to the likes of Soundcloud?
YH: No I mean, if I want to make metal music tomorrow, why not? I don’t need to release it under Yung Heazy, stay tuned for my prog metal project under my new label 2020.
TV: How would you compare your place now in the music scene to where you were when you first began? What kind of struggles have you faced during your journey so far?
YH: When I began I was so excited to have anything to do with the music scene in Vancouver. I’m in a place now that I can kind of show up to most places in North America and play to people who know my stuff. The hardest part of getting here was learning about the industry and doing all the behind the scenes stuff, some tasks less glamorous than others
TV: What do you hope to achieve in the future and what are you most excited about?
YH: I’m slowly but surely working to a point where I can start writing for and directing large scale orchestral music. I want to make songs that sound like if Mozart and John Lennon had a collab. Also to direct a film with my own soundtrack.
TV: What song(s) of yours are you the proudest of and why?
YH: Cuz You’re My Girl and Backup Plan comes to mind, lyrics are the most difficult part for me, when I get good ones I feel accomplished.
TV: Any last words for our readers?
TV: Keep fucking up and making bad decisions! (in music that is) I think you should expect at least a thousand epic failures on your journey, embrace em and do whatever you can to keep the dream healthy and alive.
