looking up a different greek myth thinking this time I won't be dragged into the cthonic descent/search/ascent katabasis mystery cults, but nope!! I'm still here!!
#mine musings#me looking up pre-hellenistic ariadne: SURELY i am finally free from persephone now#uhhh nope. apparently some people think ariadne could have been the predecessor of cthonic persephone#which is FASCINATING to think about#especially in context with dionysus's whole thing#like. ariadne as mistress of the labyrinth instead of theseus's guide#ariadne before sky gods became more prominent in greek mythology#she was like. a proto-demeter and persephone figure#where the journer to the labyrinth was a katabasis metaphor. or perhaps. a syncretized myth#at least that's what some people think anyway. FASCINATING
