@madatobiweek Day 3: Cultural Differences // Traditions

In the Heian era, courtship traditionally started with the suitor sending a poem to the subject of their affections. Unfortunately for Madara, Tobirama knows nothing about poetry.

History/Tradition explanation time:

Waka poem referenced is #33 of the Kokin Wakashū’s Spring I volume, written by an anonymous poet and translated into English by Helen Craig McCullough:

色よりもかこそあ���れとおもほゆれたが袖ふれしやどの梅ぞも

iro yori mo ka koso aware to omoyure ta ga sode fureshi yado no ume zo mo

(More than the colour

Waka is the oldest known form of classical Japanese style poetry, and is very heavily oriented to love poems. The Kokin Wakashū is over a thousand years old! I hc Madara to be heavily into waka as an artform :)

Madara’s face in the last panel is inspired by Ukiyo-e prints of Kabuki actors, I tried my best :’) don’t worry, Tobirama appreciates the effort

My original setting for Think of Me was after a bunch of clans had already moved into Konoha, and Tobirama was going to have a horde of children following him around as his self-proclaimed students including Uchiha Kagami, which catches Madara’s notice.

The plot has since shifted but I left minor things like Hiruzen’s monkey Shadow in as a random kid’s Shadow playing ninja at night :)

Madatobi Week Day 1: Fantasy // Court

O’kami Amaterasu favours a match for her blessed child, Uchiha Madara is not mentally prepared to be married in a week, and Satoyama Tora (who is definitely not Senju Tobirama, no siree) is about to make the courting of Uchiha Madara His Problem, actually.

Silly stupid wip

Had an absolutely banger idea for a mdtb wk prompt but its so technically above my skill level I’ll be genuinely shocked if I can pull it off sksksk pray for me and this piece y’all

I don’t think I’ve posted my random bs go!! sketching stage on here before, ariadne wip was posted after I had cleaned up all the messy lines. Hopefully once I get everything where I like it I’ll ink and colour it like the tbrm snow leopard pieces. Hopefully.
