quinn’s in love and death stream summary: all of the lore
he described the way bert’s voice sounds towards the ending of i caught fire as “cute and sweet”
he said he has synesthesia and gave us a color for a lot of the songs. the only ones i remember are: i caught fire is red and yesterdays feelings is green
at the beginning of yesterdays feelings, quinn’s voice can be heard saying “creaks and cracks”. it turns out he was talking about a really old guitar he was playing that wasn’t very good for recording because it made noises as you played
regarding the meaning of yesterdays feelings, quinn said he couldn’t describe it.
a lot of the songs on this album were from ideas quinn came up with. he said he did background vocals on about 75% of the songs
light with a sharpened edge was a title bert came up with, quinn said he really liked that title
in 2004, while the used was working on in love and death and mcr was working on revenge, the two bands lived in the same apartment building in la and would hang out a lot. gerard would come over to quinn’s place and quinn told a story about gerard playing 3 songs from revenge for quinn in his bedroom. quinn said he remembered thinking revenge sounded very cohesive and in love and death was a lot different; it was kind of all over the place and he worried it was too pop and that they were getting too far away from the used’s original sound. he played some songs for gerard as well
quinn talked really positively about mcr, he described them as having a “vampire motorcycle gang” aesthetic back in the day. around 2003 i believe the used took mcr on tour in europe with them; quinn said he’d often film them/take pics of them from the side stage, at one point he was thinking about maybe making a music video for them of liveshow clips but that never happened. he remembers being sure that mcr would become a really huge band (they were still in bullets era at this time)
in 2004 during the writing and recording of in love and death quinn was doing mushrooms and smoking weed and he was reading a lot of philosophy books. i forget the authors name, but chapter 8 of a book he was reading that was about transferring the perspectives/teachings of eastern philosophy into a western lens was called “how to be a genuine fake”. at this time, tensions between him and bert were high, they were butting heads a lot and quinn was sick of his behaviour. he noted how bert would act around people/treat people completely differently; he’d be great to some people and horrible to others. in quinn’s room at the apartment, he handed bert the philosophy book opened to the “how to be a genuine fake” chapter and told him to read it. bert read one page and then threw it on the bed and was like “whatever”. a few days later, bert had written lyrics to a song and said it was titled “i’m a fake”
someone asked about blue and yellow and he said “yes that song’s about me”; he gave us the exact meaning of the “your hands were shaking” line. feldy and bert have both told a story about how during the recording of the first album, bert disappeared for ~2 weeks. bert said he met some girl and was gonna quit the band and whatever. (<- when he’s talking about blue and yellow in that interview, it’s one of those half-truths where like, it did happen, yes, but it’s like the irrelevant part of the larger story, which he obvs doesn’t want to talk about now. gina is a convenient fake inspiration. this section of this interview is so eyeroll inducing because he literally admits to lying about the song in the kirsten dunst part. bert has talked about quinn being the subject of blue and yellow so many times; i have very thorough citations & proof for all of the blue and yellow stuff in my fic masterguide). REGARDLESS, when bert finally showed up at feldy’s again, quinn said that he was so mad and upset that his hands were shaking. (when i say disappeared i mean DISAPPEARED like they couldn’t contact him at all). quinn said that feldy just hugged bert and was like “you can’t do that”. quinn said that at times, feldy was kind of like their dad.
as we all know, all that i’ve got is about bert’s dog david bowie that passed away by getting hit by a car, which in some roundabout way was due to the wrong plane ticket being booked for him meaning he couldn’t take bowie, so he left him with someone who was going to drive him out to wherever the band was heading. quinn said that the line “so deep that it didn’t even bleed” is a reference to the phonecall bert received from his dad who broke the news to him that bowie died, saying “it was quick, there wasn’t even any blood”
the line “i couldn’t come/you couldn’t come” in cut up angels means cum, like orgasm
sound effects and overdramatics is about sex, relationships, and drugs/addiction
feldy told quinn to listen to the beatles entire discography around this time, which he did. he said that there were definitely beatles and nirvana influences on this album. he specifically mentioned territorial pissings, and he mentioned playing a beatles riff backwards on one of the songs but i can’t remember which one :( sorry
quinn likes thursday, and he listened to full collapse a lot
when asked, he said he likes fall out boy
he still talks to mikey sometimes
someone asked if his kids know the used songs and he basically said no, and then he started talking about how his son says “skibidi” and “rizz” and “ohio” and “brainrot” and he like knew all of the lingo???? NDSJSKAKKS and then he was like “back in my day the cringe stuff we would quote was pauly shore” (i’m paraphrasing) and then he did a pauly shore impression
off-tour he would just live out of his backpack, and he rented a spare bedroom at his friends house (im assuming this was like late 2002-early 2004 because in summer 2004 they had the la apartment). he built a bed out of bricks with planks of wood on top. (……this info combined with him just sleeping on the floor of his bedroom at his parents place because there was no bed makes me think he was just used to sleeping on hard surfaces????)
he confirmed that hard to say is about kate, bert’s girlfriend who passed away during the recording of in love and death. it was a song that was added in right at the end of recording and they weren’t sure if they would keep it in. quinn said that he and his family were close to kate, because back at the beginning of the band when bert joined and quinn said he could move in with him, kate lived with them for a period of time too. quinn said that bert and kate were recovering addicts and that he left home for a while at this point because they were staying in his bedroom and sometimes it was “hard to be around them”. we know for sure that quinn sometimes did stay there with bert, because of the whole story where they were sleeping on his bedroom floor together when feldy called from norway in the summer of 2001 and blah blah blah (which he told on branden’s podcast)
towards the end of the recording of in love and death, quinn said that he and bert were not speaking to each other. finding album cover artwork became his responsibility, quinn found alex pardee and basically organized/chose all of the album artwork working with alex (who was the artist)
because we would never figure it out, he told us a secret about ocean of the sky. put on the film 2001: a space odyssey, skip to 20 minutes and 1 second from the ending and play the song tethys and it’s supposed to line up exactly to what happens on-screen. he was inspired by those rumors that you could do the same thing with the original wizard of oz and pink floyd’s dark side of the moon. the guys had been talking about 2001: a space odyssey in regards to ocean of the sky, the “ocean of the sky” meaning outer space. he said he created the song tethys in one sitting, from 9pm - 6am and his computer crashed twice. he digitally mixed it and then sent it off at 9am that morning and that was the last song on that ep.
quinn said that he’s happy bert’s sober now, but it’s “too little, too late” (his exact words)
he confirmed that bert’s struggle with addiction and his behaviour for the majority of the time quinn was in the band was what lead to quinn’s departure. it was draining, exhausting, and the 23 hours a day that they were not on stage was a “nightmare”. he says very confidently that he’s happier now. (side note: if you haven’t listened to this interview with bert about addiction/sobriety i think you should, because he gives details regarding the severity of what was happening. tw: discussion of self-harm)
when asked if there’s any chance he’ll ever play a show with the used again, he said “no”
re: the band and quinn’s frustrations about bert, quinn said he found himself “sitting on his hands” (exact words) a lot of the time and just going along with whatever was happening because he had no other means of enacting change that would actually work (paraphrased). he used a really good metaphor of letting bert “drive”, but quinn would always have “one hand on the wheel”… i feel like that’s self-explanatory
during part of this section of the stream, he got emotional and teary-eyed and said that some of it is hard to talk about
regarding some of the meaning behind quinn’s song i digress, quinn said that it’s about the difficult experience of trying to help a friend who struggles with severe depression and persistent suicidal thoughts, and how he felt that all of his efforts were futile. this seemed to be a recent experience of his. he also spoke about a similarity between this situation and being in the band, which he described as very negative and emotionally taxing when you continually try to help someone who doesn’t want to help themselves. for his emotional wellbeing he needed to step away (in both situations). he also clarified that the lyric is “i’m hanging by your thread” which i got wrong in my transcription. he compared the “i’m hanging by your thread” line to the heart noose.
quinn showed us the physical prototype for his book which is completely finished. he is hopeful that pre-orders will be available in mid-october through kickstarter, he is planning to make a signed book and cassette tape ep bundle which he wants us to receive before christmas (this is all tentative).
he is apparently filming a music video for his second single today (yesterday he spent building the set for it). physical versions of his ep will only be available in cassette tape form because that’s what he grew up with, he likes that they’re small and easy to display
the book has A LOT of exclusive photos in it. he showed us some pages of the book. he said that he started writing it/working on it back when he left the band as a therapeutic, cathartic hobby. aside from the written chapters, there are a lot of pages he created in photoshop that have photo collages that he would draw little pictures on and organize. he said he would work on this to process his emotions, he would cry and let himself feel angry or upset, but it ended up being a very healing project
someone mentioned that they gave him a scrapbook in 2012 (he remembered it) and he said that he still has all of the stuff that the fans gave him/the band. he would box all of it up after their tours and ship it to his house. some of this fan stuff is featured in the book
he really enjoyed the stream and he will likely do another one sometime in the near future (no date is set yet). he’d like to do a listening party for the first album and talk about the songs/behind the scenes lore like he did for this one. he’d also be open to doing a stream just about guitars. people were requesting for him to put out official guitar tabs for the used songs and he said he’ll definitely work on it now that he knows there is interest
he had literally stacks of old photos and showed us some of them which i’ll make a separate post for. at one point he was like “ohhh i can’t show you those” and skipped through a bunch which is just the most infuriatingly intriguing thing like…… i can only imagine.
this was all just written from memory bc for some insane reason recording desktop audio on obs if you have a mac is literally impossible which is crazy in 2024 but regardless i think the livestreams are more special if they aren’t recorded because you have to be there to witness it. i got the vibe that he doesn’t want them to be saved (he said “i can’t” but that’s not true), so instead of asking him in chat next time and you really really want to save it, just record it for your own personal viewing and keep it on the down low. (i’m not telling anyone what to do but i feel like re-uploading to youtube would be against his wishes (he never said this, it’s just my inference)).
if anyone who watched feels like i missed a crucial piece of lore, feel free to add XD

To the End - MCR Interviews
89.5 WSOU Radio Interview - 6/7/04
6:12-6:41
youtube
Gerard: Let's do track 3 "To the End." Interviewer: Track 3 "To the End" Gerard: Yeah, I'm psyched, this one's like very cinematic, kinda tells a story 'bout marriage and a lot of weird stuff that I had never lyrically written about before, so I'm kinda psyched on that one. Interviewer: So where was the inspiration for this from? Gerard: (Either forgetting or unwilling to admit that it's based on the short story "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner) Um, no idea. It just-- yeah, LA. It just kinda came out. When we wrote the music, it was just like-- it had this really great like dance feel, which we had never tried ever, and I was just like, "This is so funny, let's put some really messed up lyrics to it."

Trouble Bunch Music Interview - Aug 2004
Paragraph 12
Tumblr media
Interviewer: In 'To The End', why does the elevator only go up to ten and would you feel okay getting off on the thirteen floor? Gerard: Well, I felt that picking a lower number would be like 'I can't get high enough' so I had to pick somewhere around ten. I felt like I just needed to get higher; like the top just isn't good enough. I think that's kind of a metaphor in how we feel and how we operate as a band, that the top isn't good enough since that's not what we're after. It's not good enough for us because we want to make a difference and actually change things. We don't just want things thrown at us. But I've gotten off on thirteenth floors. They make them right?

Kerrang Interview - Aug 2005

Gerard: Without Blur we never would have had songs like 'You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison'. I saw 300 people start crying when they played 'To The End', which is a song title I ripped off of them.

MCR Forum Interview - 10/30/10
Paragraph 4
Tumblr media
Ray: Planetary (GO), which has a different energy, but it's something that we've always tried to write, but we never did one hundred percent. If you look at a song like "Vampires Will Never Hurt You," it has a little bit of that. It doesn't have the electronics in it, but it easily could. And "To The End" on Revenge has that kind of like disco *drums on leg* 16th note hi-hat thing in the verses.

Grammy Museum Interview - 1/26/11
7:19-7:34
youtube
Mikey: On each of our albums we'd always come like a centimeter closer to writing a full on dance song. And even back to like "Vampires Will Never Hurt You," it's kind of-- Ray: Yeah, it has that vibe for sure. Mikey: --good dance to it. And then, um, "Sharpest Lives," uh, (quietly, not into the mic, holding up 3 fingers) what was the other one? Ray: "To the End" Mikey: "To the End," yeah.

Two Minutes to Late Night Interview - 8/15/22
8:05-8:54, 46:42-46:54
youtube
Gwarsenio Hall (Interviewer): Like "To the End" Frank: Oh yeah Gwarsenio: "To the End" are, like-- "To the End" and-- Frank: I'm pulling up the track listing by the way Gwarsenio: "To the End" and, uh-- I'm so sorry-- song number 2 on the record, start-- they both have these like-- Frank: Oh, "Give 'Em Hell Kid" ... Gwarsenio: Like, I listened to it, and I was like-- there's like The Stooges and Queens of the Stone Age shit on this. Even in "To the End," the little (vocalizing) "do do do do." I'm like, "This is a Josh Homme riff right here." Frank: (laughs) Which is funny because I don't feel like anybody was listening to Queens at that point. I don't know, was-- when did Songs for the Deaf come out? Gwarsenio: '03, probably, so you guys might have been-- Frank: Oh really? Alright, so maybe right around there then.
Gwarsenio: What song do you think would make like a fun, like, drag queen lipsync? Frank: I'm thinking-- I think the danciest song is "To the End," right? It has the most vibe to it, so maybe "To the End."

Interview transcript under the cut:
The darkness that drives Mikey Way
For the first time, MCR’s enigmatic bassist reveals the private agony that drove him to the brink of suicide
Words: Tom Bryant
Photo: Dave Willis
Mikey Way has been wandering around backstage in Las Vegas for a while now. It's a few hours before his band, My Chemical Romance, are due onstage to headline a free show at the House Of Blues. At first he's chatty, proud that MCR have risen from opening these kind of shows a few years ago to now being the main attraction. In part it's due to the astonishing success of "The Black Parade. More than that, it's due to the strange and alluring charisma of this band, a darkness operating beneath the surface. Thinking about this is when Mikey starts to sound nervous.
As he paces around, it's clear there's something he wants to get off his chest. He begins to talk about the making of 'The Black Parade,’ the record that's put him where he is now. He mentions the shadowy forces the band say drove them to the edge of disaster during the recording process, hinting that the band member most troubled during those tense months was him.
While his brother Gerard Way has been open about his battle with drink and drugs, Mikey's struggle has been less publicised. Yet he says, "I was pretty bad, I was two steps away from the Betty Ford Clinic. When Gerard stopped drinking [in 2004], it put me on my road to recovery - it's just that my road took a couple of years. Well, I stopped doing the drugs so much but it was more the drinking that I latched onto. I thought I didn't have a problem because it wasn't making me depressed.
But then, later on in life, I realised I had a real problem."
As he speaks it becomes clear just how difficult life has been for Mikey in the last year. Quietly, as he talks, he reveals how he became paralysed by depression to such an extent that he was close to leaving the band, leaving his friends and, more worryingly, how he even thought of suicide.
WHAT WERE YOU GOING THROUGH DURING THE RECORDING OF 'THE BLACK PARADE'?
"It was a mixture of being 25 and of taking a cocktail of anti-depressants and then drinking on them. I had stopped doing drugs but I was really depressed. There were a lot of traumatic events that had been through that I hadn't properly processed or accepted. Also I moved to Brooklyn just after we had got home from touring 'Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge' [in late 2005] and it was the first time we'd had the chance to be home for any length of time. It was the first chance we'd had to be normal human beings for a while. That was a hard hit to me. It felt weird. I just couldn't get used to being home for two or three months. I just didn't get it."
WAS THAT CONFUSING?
"Yes, everything was supposed to be stable and great - but it wasn't. On top of that I had all these chemical dependencies and I had just turned 25, which depressed me. Life was getting to me."
WAS THERE A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE BAND THEN TO WRITE A SUCCESSFUL FOLLOW-UP TO THREE CHEERS FOR SWEET REVENGE'?
"Yes - there was the pressure too. People were saying. 'You guys are making your follow-up, you've got to beat the last one'. That was in my head the whole time. Then I started worrying about my own abilities too."
YOUR MUSICAL ABILITIES?
"Yes, that and everything else. Everything - life in general - everything was going round my head."
DO YOU THINK YOU'VE BEATEN IT NOW?
"I don't know if l have truly beaten it. I'm a fuckload better, though. I'm probably at 80 or 90 per cent now. Basically what happened was that I left the Paramour house [the studio in which MCR recorded 'The Black Parade']. I left after I had a mental breakdown. I went through some trauma. I left the house to stay with one of my best friends [the band's lawyer and close friend Stacy Fass]. Getting out of Paramour was the turning point for me. That house had just escalated everything in my head and made everything a million times worse."
WHY WAS IT SO BAD THERE?
"Here's the thing - being in that house was like being in another country. You couldn't get cellphone service and the internet was really bad too so it felt like all my lines of communication were down. I didn't have my driver's licence at the time so l was stranded on the property. It was miles from anywhere. We had these long, vigorous practice schedules where we would wake up at noon and play until midnight. If you mix all that with the fact that I was manic depressive then it was as though someone was pouring gasoline on all my problems and setting fire to them."
THAT'S A VERY HARD WAY TO MAKE AN ALBUM.
"Yeah. And I almost didn't get through it."
WERE YOU CLOSE TO SUICIDE?
"I was really close. I knew that I was going to leave the band or maybe just leave planet Earth altogether. I felt like it was either one or the other. I just thought, 'I can't deal with this."
WHO HELPED YOU THROUGH IT?
"Oh - everyone. My band, my brother, my parents, my fiancĂŠe, all my best friends. My friend Stacy saved my life. She got me out of the house, she put me up at her place and kicked me out of bed and made me go to my therapy appointments. She made me get active help."
WERE YOU SEEING A LOT OF THERAPISTS?
"I was seeing four different doctors a week. They were two steps away from putting me into a hospital. I think Gerard wanted to check me into somewhere."
IT WAS THAT SERIOUS?
"Yes, it was really bad but I knew that being checked into somewhere wouldn't help. I was stronger than that."
IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE FEELING BETTER NOW.
"I'm on medication and that helps. My brother and I have a history of depression, it's a genetic thing. People aren't all wired the same. Me and him were born like that. So I take medication. And everything is great for us now. I'm happier than I've been since I was 14. I'm on top of the world, I really am."

Viva Las Vengeance is out so I decided to waste 43 minutes of my life and here's my thoughts.
Note: any song after Local God is my first time listening to it, so all these reactions were written as the song was playing.
Also I'm using the tumblr app so idk how to cut text sorry.
Viva Las Vengeance:
This song has already been shat on to death for good reason
The verse and the chorus don't fit at all with each other
And the slow part near the end is not it😬
Middle of A Breakup:
Just saying this now the lyrics on these songs are VERY on the nose AND unoriginal
'Keep your disco, give me T-Rex' tf is that suppose to mean???
It's meh. Not as painful as the first one for sure.
Don't Let the Light Go Out:
Said it before and I'll say it again: Ed Sheeran knock-off.
Shows that Brendon doesn't need uplifting beats and screehing to make a good song
Well 'good' is subjective but this is one fo the better ones.
Local God:
This song should be in JAIL.
I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT IHATE IT-
Doesn't flow together AT ALL
It's 2022 Brendon why did you make an ENTIRE 3 MINUTE SONG about a guy you haven't talked to in YEARS???
Star Spangled Banger:
the title is a obvious lie, this shit ain't banging at ALL
Why is brendon sing-talking some parts in the verse?? Could he not fit all the lyrics in??
Good to know that the verse and the chorus not fitting together is gonna be a running theme throughout this album
God Killed Rock and Roll:
I swear the beginning of with the piano this sounds like a cheap knockoff of bohemian rhapsody
The musical flow of this song SUCKS so much its kinda funny. It starts with piano with an accompany of a chorus which is the only decent part of the entire song, then the pre-chorus has a quicker beat and the switch feels so abrupt.
I don't like that it sounds like brendon is trying to chase the lyrics in the chorus
Say it Louder:
Ngl the beat actually sounds good???
'For the people in the back(back, back, back) bros trying to create his own echo💀
None of it sounds out of place so far.. his voice does kind of sound a bit werid though its kind of expected of him at this point
OK nvm, it got slow again around the middle
Sugar Soaker:
The come on come ons do not fit the beat of the chorus. They fit the verses just fine though.
He's definitely making the choruses sound 'fulfilling' when it's just the verse but upped an octave. It just comes off as lifeless..
Wtf were those come ons at the end, its like hes creating dramatic tension through audio
Something About Maggie:
HELP NOT THAT HIGH NOTE FOLLOWED BY ALL THE LOW ONES, yeah that made me actually laugh
'Let him GOOO🤩' 'people say people say run away run away😈'
Sorry but the only ones who wrote a good line about slitting wrists were MCR and that was in 2004 🙄
Also Panic hasn't really been 'emo' since Fever (maybe Vices but that's pushing it) so not only is this line just yeesh it doesnt fit at all.😬
So glad Brendon decided to embrace his snake persona with how he's saying his s' at the end of sentences
'oh yeah'😚
Brendon PLEASE stop messing up the track by switching beats halfway through it
a a a a a a a a
Friendship ended with Sarah, now Maggie is my bestie
Sad Clown:
Title is kinda self-aware, ain't it?
Alright Brendon we know you were on Broadway but that doesn't mean you have to force yourself to sing like that on your songs
Only dogs can hear it I stg
Great he got slow AGAIN out of no where, cause that went so well the last time he did it (viva las vengeance)
All By Yourself:
Another self-aware title damn, he's on a kick with these.
He likes mentioning those posters on my wall. Ironically I have two IDKHOW and FØB posters and none of him lol.
Even with a slow song like this, it still feels like he's forcing himself to sing higher than he has to.
He was right about changing everything all by himself though.
This actually sounds pretty nice, I will admit.
Do it To Death:
What else is there left to say? It sounds the exact same as the other songs..
It keeps teasing me thinking he's gonna say something else-OH SCREW OFF NOW THIS 'shut up and go to bed' SHIT AGAIN
I sat through 40 minutes of your mediocre music just to get jumpscared with a viva las vengeance callback END ME
In short: im disappointed but not surprised. This doesn't even feel like Panic anymore. The lyrics are bland and repetitive, Brendons vocals are truely fighting on their last legs and the songs can't commit to a single beat. It's like he had too many ideas and thought he could execute them all but he couldn't. I can't believe this album is actually real, I refuse to listen to this ever again.
If the studio versions of these songs sound so dogshit, I canNOT wait to hear about the tour versions.
Bonus note: the song spotify decided to auto play right after finishing the album was Famous Last Words which idk whether to laugh or cry.

To go along with the other video I posted (MCR at the 2004 Almost Acoustic Christmas), here is the second concert I listened to religiously in my time as a fan before the release of The Black Parade. (So like summer of 2005 - fall of 2006). Don't get me wrong, I listened to them after TBP, but before I listened to it like...weekly at least.
It's summer...it's hot ...and Gerard let's you know he hates it.
Highlights:
1. Opening with I'm Not Okay
2. Frank Iero is the most #RevengeFrank he has ever been.
3. Gerard Way in all black with his bulletproof vest and a dye job that looks like someone spilt bleach on top of his head (jealous much?)
4. They are all wearing all black ...
5. "You guys come to have a good time tonight...today, whatever?"
6. "You didn't pay to just sit there or stand there..."
7. Ray's mic is potted up to 11...it is delicious.
8. "Beach balls at festival shows are the work of the devil."
9. "This song got us arrested in France...because it's about getting fucked in the ass." Into Prison
10. "Aw, my zipper came down..." Again...part of going into Prison.
11. Gerard gives the "tits for a backstage pass" speech
12. During the speech, someone (Ray?) is playing "Close to you" from the Carpenters
13. Here comes the Bride into To The End.
14. Saying LA so MANY times.
15. Ending with Helena
It is a great show...I know I missed something that I love about it.

Escape The Fate - Chemical Warfare
Tumblr media
Track list:
Lightning Strike
Invincible (Ft. Lindsey Stirling)
Unbreakable
Chemical Warfare
Erase You
Not My Problem (Ft. Travis Barker)
Burn The Bridges
Demons
Hand Grenade
Ashes (Broken World)
My Gravity
Walk On
Escape The Fate, a metal band from Las Vegas that have had a career full a drama since their formation in 2004. Starting with the whole firing of Ronnie Radke - their original singer -  when he went to prison after battery charges and failure to comply with probation, that started a whole issue that has now been resolved but that went on for a good many years. Max Greene went next due to his battles with narcotics but again any issues have been resolved. So now, drama free, we welcome their 7th full length studio album.
“Invincible” guest stars American singer Lindsey Stirling who has been getting onto some guest spots for some top bands lately, it’s got an ominous vibe and when that first growl comes it hits me quite unexpectedly, it’s just changed the dynamic of the song, when I hear Stirling she beautifully leads up very eerie vocals to a beast of a breakdown, top class. “Not My Problem” gets a helping hand from legendary Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, I’m getting huge Dead By April vibes from this, but I suppose when you combine these styles of writing that is the sensible outcome, the sinister build up at the end really takes me back to early metalcore days where things sound demonic and Early Slipknot are a good example of what I mean, really fits in well. “Lightning Strike” makes me have strong flashbacks to the time MCR dropped Danger Days as it's a similar style and change, it’s only when Mabbitt dominates the chorus that it truly feels like ETF, think more new Asking Alexandria style. I really struggle with “My Gravity” - and I’d love to know if any other ETF and Falling In Reverse fans are having this - to not compare it to “Carry On” simply because of the lyrics to that song, because in my opinion “Carry On” is phenomenal I just can’t help but keep finding that this is just like a diluted version of that even though the songs don’t sound similar. “Walk On” was the first taste test dropped for us which shows more than ever just how much there is to Craig Mabbitt’s vocals in a really beautiful building ballad.
This is a band after all that has adapted to change, down to brass tacks they are still the same band that they started as and they bare their teeth when to remind us they know what they're doing at the right times but also proving that they can be that band that moves around and grows with their aging fanbase who maybe feel a teeny bit disconnected to the angst of their youth and purely feel the nostalgia from it, well you dont get nostalgia from new ETF you just get new relatable tunes.

I’ve just been posting here without having introduced myself so I guess I’ll properly say hi.
I’m Elisa (she/her).
Fan since summer 2004 (shit, I was 13) and have remained trash for this band ever since. I contribute a lot of my love to music in general with getting into MCR as a kid and really following the journey of a band and learning about the industry through them.
I got to see the band 3 times in very distinct periods in their career (2005, 2007, and 2011) and those are some of my greatest memories going to shows as a kid. I can relate a lot to Frank, in that I was always hanging around venues and going to shows every weekend in parts of town that were still a little dangerous and you had to lie to your parents about where you were. I loved growing up the Dallas/Ft Worth music scene and I mourn the loss of a lot of those great little clubs where I discovered my love for live music.
And luckily now that I’m an adult with my own career and disposable income - I have tickets to 5 shows on the reunion tour for next year. I can’t wait to feel like I’m 15 again and party it out with all the other fans who feel just as passionately as I do.
I’d been mostly off tumblr for the last five years - since I moved to LA really - but with quarantine and nothing better to do, I’m back on this hellsite. And thought “fuck it” and started this MCR sideblog to be a nice distraction from the rest of the world.
Please stop by and say hi, send me a message, tell me about your stories. I’m happy to be here, and to share the love for this band.

I was looking through your blog, and I cannot figure out what that meme with the 9/11 >>> 50 shades of gray actually means.
WHY DID YALL REMIND ME THIS EXISTS ITS SUCH A
Tumblr media
oh god okay the truncated timeline of this fucking meme. 9/11 happens ➡️gerard way is on ferry and has their “im gonna be joan of arc and the world at large is just gonna have to deal with it” moment after seeing it ➡️critically acclaimed band my chemical romance is formed ➡️somewhere in utah, stephanie meyer briefly wakes up out of the complete ketamine haze of mormonism and being horny about khaki and joseph smith to listen to acclaimed mcr single “vampires will never hurt you”, takes one look at that lapsed catholic greasy mess of 2004 era mcr and gets massively fucking horny about gerard ➡️stephanie meyer creates twilight and specifically thanks gerard and the lads in the preface of the book ➡️ (this isnt related to this meme timeline but stephanie meyer begged mcr to do a song for the á la muse’s supermassive blackhole or paramore’s decode and mcr said we are LARPing in the desert. but then gerard found out how fucking horny stephanie meyer was AND that she had wanted him to fucking play edward in the movie (jesus fucking christ) and wrote a whole song for their fourth album about how he deserved some fucking royalty checks for this shit and called it vampire money which is just iconic (and then let their song get used in the third transformers movie AND glee though so what the fuck was 2010) ➡️el james is busy being like 35 and writes masters of the universe of fanfiction.net  which is some twilight bdsm AU ➡️somehow a publishing deal happens after she literally just hit control+f on the names and 50 shades of gray is released into the fucking wild lets 40 year old white women everywhere think its cool to start talking about how spicy this book is in the middle of olive gardens across america ➡️the phrases “im 50 shades of fucked up” and the concept of “dom jeans” enter the cultural consciousness and is probably responsible for the mess of america in 2020
