HOUSES CAVALIERI & XOLOTL.

generations of the cavalieri family have held political sway in new venice for nearly a century; while its oldest scion, rafael, declined to follow the family path, its reputation is presently upheld in argentium by brothers león and cesare. rafael’s marriage to scilla cavalieri, a vampire of the xolotl bloodline and the recently ascended boss of the new venetian mafia, has further buoyed the cavalieris’ status; politics, money, and the mafia in hand, there is no limit to their ambition.

nb: there are many references below to the new venetian government and mafia; the faction info on those will be released on the site tumblr soon. in the meantime, if you have any questions or would like more clarification, please let me know!

> CAVALIERIS.

the cavalieris are a wealthy and well-reputed human family in new venice. rafael’s decision to allow scilla to turn him was controversial within the family; historically, they are pro-human, with various levels of specist beliefs (some are members of the natural order). the cavalieris are happy to benefit from raf and scilla’s mafia largesse, but do not view the xolotls as equal.

rafael cavalieri - open; 65 (appears 50), turned vampire approx. 30 years ago. a black sheep in his family who forged his own path in the sciences rather than join the government. he is responsible for many of the country’s breakthroughs in ichor experimentation during the war and after. married scilla over his family’s vocal disapproval and allowed her to turn him as an added fuck-you. fierce, intelligent, and uncompromising, but far more forgiving than his wife; they’re a disastrous union, and presently estranged. loving father to vittoria and aryana cavalieri. face claim: jose maria yazpik, henry ian cusick, or open (must be latino).

león cavalieri - taken by dione; human. an established lobbyist, who has aided scilla in securing bribes and intelligence for the mafia in exchange for a hefty fee, in addition to smoothing out the attendant legal "wrinkles." natural order leanings. face claim: pedro pascal.

cesare cavalieri - taken by kels; human, 41. works in government alongside his brother, either as a member of parliament or a fellow lobbyist. charismatic, and clever, if in an accidental sort of way; more of a loose cannon than either of his brothers. the “funcle.” throws notoriously lavish parties that somehow don’t negate his populist appeal. face claim: diego luna.

> XOLOTLS.

the xolotls, with the exception of valentín and alejandro, are distant cousins of each other. they are united by their shared bloodline--all are xolotl vampires, and they’ve made their way to new venice to work with scilla. because they do not share blood with the cavalieris beyond scilla’s daughter, arya, the relationship between the two families is fraught. rafael and gabriel are the “peacemakers” of the two families, as scilla, frankly, both 1) lives for the drama and 2) finds it easier to manipulate each branch when they’re focused on infighting.

gabriel ____ - open; vampire, appears mid 40s. initially brought to europe by scilla’s father in a bid to wed them; she, being naturally averse to any proposition of her father’s, spent the better part of a decade attempting to destroy gabriel. she eventually coaxed him to turn against her father and he has been her right-hand man since; they have a sibling-like bond of trust and loyalty (hard-won over the years). softer than scilla but in many ways more practical, he’s often exasperated by his family, and is the only one of the xolotls who insists on the necessity of playing nice with the cavalieris. he believes in the reforms scilla and orion are implementing within the mafia, but preaches the need for patience, and for continued “cooperation” (read: bribes) with the government. face claim: gael garcia bernal or open (must be latino).

valentín ____ - taken by percy; vampire, appears early 40s. a closer cousin of gabriel who followed him over to new venice, to gabriel’s chagrin. a hedonist; uses his mafia connections as a Get Out of Jail/Drugs Free card. seethingly jealous of scilla and gabriel and their positions in the mafia, and just crafty enough to be dangerous. has begun forming alliances in the pactum sanguine and makes no effort to mask his disdain for non-vampire species. though he privately believes that scilla is unfit to lead the mafia due to her marriage to a human, even a turned one, he manages (just barely) to fake the appearance of loyalty. due to his sybaritic lifestyle, neither scilla nor gabriel view him as a serious threat. face claim: edgar ramirez.

alejandro ____ - open; vampire, appears mid 20s.  valentín’s son, though neither knew it until recently; he showed up in new venice a year ago upon learning of his claim to the xolotl bloodline, and no one’s been entirely sure what to do with him since. cannier than he appears and all too aware of his father’s precarious position in the mafia. gabriel took pity on him and offered him a position among scilla’s bodyguards, which alejandro accepted, but he aspires to gabriel’s position one day. face claim:  manuel masalva, diego boneta, tyler posey, or open (must be latino).

orion campo - taken by connie; vampire. a prodigy; she should really be running a government somewhere, but is instead applying her sociopolitical acumen to help scilla reform the mafia. she feels the strongest about her xolotl roots out of all of the family members, and, as a result, dislikes the cavalieris because she feels like she’s helping to build an empire in their name. she has strong liberal sympathies and--unbeknownst to her family--is involved in l’ombra. face claim: diane guerrero.
