Another shirt. Same fabric as before but made in 3 days rather than a week! I made this for my auntie who loved the one I made for myself. This is McCalls 8027.
I managed to get the sleeve seams to line up again so I'm obviously going on project runway.
The fabric is from Mood, out of stock.
I'm actually loving this pattern. I'm having a lil break from it to make my baby cousin a matching one!

McCall's M6504. Ok, so for this one I was making A and then towards the end there accidentally did the shoulders for C. Now I could have just ripped the seams, but I had used a serger, so it had cut some of the fabric away, and I thought you know what surely one of the scraps is large enough that I can just make the sleeves, and I got really lucky. So yay! M6504 with sleeves and no tail, so really it looks like a completely different dress and I totally don't just wear the same thing over and over again in different colors. 😉

Nekomata costume for Halloween Part 4: Fabric and Pattern
I’ve started on Sumire’s maid ‘bonnet’ but I’ve already hit some hiccups. I think I planned out the pattern wrong, but I’ll see if I can make it work. I’m using fabric from my stash for her headdress and apron, and it seems like I have just barely enough. If what I cut out already doesn’t work, I’ll wait to finish the apron before trying again.
In bigger news, I’m making the preparations for the dress!! I was able to get some fabric (2.5 m) that should be perfect, although I do not know what it is since it was on clearance. Described as ‘designer suiting’, with the discount I only spent about 8$ CAD per meter! It has a little bit of 2-way stretch, and it’s exactly the thickness I hoped for (not too stiff, not super thin). It feels like a believable texture for work clothes. It’s also the perfect colour, since it looks black, but actually has a brown/red undertone, similar to the manga cover!!!
It looks darker in person, so here’s my attempt to colour match what I see, in a room lit with natural and artificial light:
(and it looks black under some artificial light)
I also found a pattern in my stash that should work, and the pockets are absolutely adorable!! This may be cursed, but I’m thinking of sewing the skirt on backwards so that there are buttons on the back to leave an opening for the tail.
I’ll also need to bring the neckline up a lot more, and I may just wing it since I do not know how to go about calculating the modification. This pattern also asks for lining in the bodice. My fabric is too thick to really double up like that, so I’m thinking of checking my stash for a nice thin fabric. I think it can be any colour since it won’t be visible when worn, so if it ends up being a garish bright pattern..,,. don’t @ me 🙄
Here’s the pattern: (idk if the notes help for everyone, or just the first owner, since I think I got this at a thrift store)

Pattern Overload!
I have a LOT of doll patterns that I've picked up over the years of hoarding fabric and patterns I was planning on making when I 'got better' at sewing.
I was planning on getting better via osmosis - the knowledge in the fibers and the paper instructions would magically seep into my brain despite my never actually practicing, reading or using any of them.
So aside from a huge stash of fabric with no patterns in mind, and a whole BUNCH of patterns that I now find I have no desire to make....
These are here. I'll got through them one by one for ease:
My Etsy patterns are from Pemberley Threads - these are historical patterns based on actual dresses worn in the past. I LOVE historical dress and am really excited to start these but I'm a little nervous as they are... complicated!
PemberleyThreads:
Elizabeth 1780s Jacket and Petticoat
Anne Shirtwaist and Skirt
Antoinette 18th Century Cap and Stays Corset
Charlotte 1780s Robe a l'Anglaise

So this is McCalls 8207:
(more under the cut because I know sewing posts can be dull!)
The instructions were a lot clearer on this one - except for the zipper and I ended up once again using another pattern for that - and I had a weird moment of chubby panic where I let out the waistband more than I should have, but all in all they look good.
Honestly though, the front area at the belly isn't super flattering, and the back isn't either but at the same time I don't really CARE because they make me feel like an old timey gangster.
"Hey, Dollface, you wanna see my tommy gun?"
I still need to add buttons and hem them, but finished enough that I can move onto the project without feeling overwhelming guilt. All ?I had left to do was attach the waist and I put it off for 3 weeks because I was feeling like a fraud after making a tie and pocket square for a friend.
WHY is it, when it comes to things for other people I'm a fucking idiot and can't do SHIT?
And when it's me and it's something actually complicated, like jeans or collars or fucking ANYTHING really, it's a breeze.
Something something weight of expectations something something external pressure to achieve perfection something something.
Anyway, the waistband could use some thicker weight interfacing and a bone or two would really make it crisp, but I'm happy with it. I have exactly 5 inches of the fabric left so I wasn't able to re-make the waist and just had to do what I could, but it's a stash fabric (a stash everything actually) so I spent exactly ZERO money on these trousers.

M6504 the one I managed to make correctly. The other one I started following the wrong directions, so now I have to put some sleeves on (seemed easier than ripping up what I did wrong). It is almost done too. I am still really pleased with both dresses.
