idk i’m going to have to give it at least a year for recency bias to wear off but i really think unreal unearth is his best and most cohesive album. i think self titled and wb have more marketable singles (tmtc, work song, would that i, nina, etc) but unreal unearth as a whole is just so beautiful, so powerful. i think it’s really an album that shines at its best when you listen to it all at once, and when you do, it’s like. i’m biased obviously, but it’s a transcendent experience!!!

#but now that i’ve said this i’m just like. hang on wait —#maybe wb is the strongest. or actually self titled —#one of my longstanding grudges is sam smith’s stay with me winning song of the year at the 2015 grammys over tmtc #first off i hate that song (banal; uninteresting; absolutely just radio bait) so it felt targeted that THAT song won #second i DARE you to hold tmtc up against the other nominees. he made that for the arts not the charts!!!#the nominees that year were stay with me (ugh); shake it off; chandelier; all about that bass #like tmtc had radio play AND she was like nothing else in the mainstream at the time #i remember this so clearly. soooo clearly.#tmtc 🤝 natasha pierre and the great comet of 1812
