Imagine being really sick and having to go to the hospital. You're throwing up constantly; can't sleep, can't eat, and you're dehydrated and hell because of it.

Eventually, Johnny convinced you to let him take you to the ER. "I know you're scared of hospitals, doll, but please? I hate seeing you sick like this when there's nothing I can do besides take you to someone who can do something." He whispers softly, rubbing your back, holding your hair back as you throw up. You reluctantly nod.

You're so embarrassed, sitting in the passenger seat of his car, throwing up in the little trash can in your lap. Anytime you're at a red light, he gently rubs your back. "You're okay, it's okay. Just let it out if it helps you feel better for a bit." He encourages softly, looking over at you with concern and affection in his brown eyes.

As soon as he gets you checked into the ER and they get you in a room, he's not leaving your side. He holds your hand as they take your vitals, kissing your forehead.

When you have an IV needle put in for some fluids and medication, he's distracting you, knowing how scared you are of needles. "Good. You did perfect, baby" He softly praised, kissing your forehead again after they put the IV in.

With the medication in your system, you were pretty zonked out, quickly falling asleep. He gets a blanket and a pillow for you from the nursing staff, making sure you're properly comfortable to rest.

A couple hours later, a nurse wakes you up to try to get some food in your system, see if you can hold it down now that the nausea is gone. He opens your apple juice and graham crackers for you, since he knows you only have one free arm (he doesn't want you moving the one with the IV in it).

Once you finish eating, he throws your trash away for you. "Think you can hold it down, sweetheart?" He gently teased, cupping your cheek.

And you do. You hold it down. The doctor prescribes you some anti nausea medication if needed, but otherwise sends you on your way.

He takes you back home, and immediately escorts you back to bed. "I'm gonna go pick up your medication, you try to get some rest. I love you, baby." He whispers, softly kissing you, tucking you in as if you were a child. "Feel better, my love."

seeing as your races are definitely more like species, distinct from each other and evolving from different ancestors, do you even handle them? -or do they simply not exist in your world?

seeing as they're all sentient species with communication abilities, is it taboo for them to couple up?

is there magic that would allow them to procreate? would that be taboo?

Hi! I'm gonna get to your other questions when I have a bit more time, I'm wrapping up a paid project and its almost new years so I'm a little backed up on questions at the moment lol.

But I love talking about my personal project! So I'll answer this one while I have some time.

The main half races I do are between orcs and their tiny cousins (gnomes and haufin aka "halflings", because I thought it would be fun for the smallest people to be related to the big beefy ones lol)

They're all still closely related enough that they can mix and match. I did make a doodle page for them, I'll link it later maybe. This leads to fun combos like gnorcs, gnaufin, hauforcs, and the triple combo "urukin" because they end up looking more like the common ancestor which I named after Tolkein's uruk-hai.

So they're a lot of fun. Gnaufin are the most common mix because they're both small, and any cross with orcs is like 98% a result of gnome and haufin males looking at a tall beefcake of an orc lady and saying "challenge accepted" which results in some hilarious mixed families. In fact, in the story I'm writing, the protagonist's gnomish wife is 1/8th orc because her maternal great-grandpa was *adventurous*

The other related people species are the sylvanids, being elves, drow, and "vampires" (until I think of a better word)

They don't mix as well as the orcs and their kin, because they've diverged a lot more. Orcs, gnomes, and haufin are practically all the same, they just come in different sizes and have different teeth arrangement and a few distinct adaptations for different lifestyles. But the sylvanids have wildly different adaptations for much more niche reasons.

Orcs are built for pack hunting, gnomes are built for climbing, haufin are built for burrowing. They're all omnivores because they came from ancient wild boars.

Elves are built for semi-arboreal bipedal life with ambush hunting, vampires are built for sprint hunting while running on all fours and walking bipedal otherwise and also they mainly consume blood and guts and nothing else, and drow are built for eusocial live in deep caverns with an extremely unique endocrine system and semi-prehensile tails. They just diverged way more than the orciformes did.

Vampires are capable of having children with either of the other groups, but their genetics usually win out and just produce more vampires, with some visual similarity to the other parent.

Elf/vampire is more common than drow/vampire. Drow/elf is technically possible but they will almost always be infertile because most drow are infertile. The only real chance of drow mixing with anyone is from the handful of wandering fertile male drow who ditch their social systems to go be loners (actually a necessity, because they help keep the gene pool diverse) drow matriarchs are pretty picky about who they have babies with, so the chance of a matriarch having a mixed baby are next to none. It's possible that a non-matriarch female drow might undergo the hormonal transformation without telling anyone, if she triggered it the natural way instead of with medication (referencing the way naked mole rats do things) so a "rogue matriarch" might have mixed babies.

As for other combos, they're entirely impossible and no one has found a normal magical and medical way to change that.

Except the one time a Life Entity (basically a deity) was upset to see humans going extinct, so she used a large portion of her limited power to mess with genetics (she was a geneticist in her mortal life) and found a few ways to get human genetics to continue for a while.

The easiest one was altering dward DNA ever so slightly so they could have kids with humans, being the only other remaining hominid species. A harder option that she did anyway was altering some elf DNA (with the help of other Life Entities) so they could also have kids with humans. This was as far as she could stretch the genetics of a non-hominid species, as elves are simian rather than ape and just happened to evolve a similar niche to the earliest hominids.

As a result, it's uncommon but not unheard of for these mixed half-elves and half-dwarves to also reproduce together, but the genetics break down more and those kids are all infertile.

The final thing this Life Entity did was to sneak around behind Death's back to do some illicit soul recycling and craft a new people species from scratch while bypassing evolution, creating my bird folk, the quetzalin. They are basically just bird bits and human bits shoved together and micro managed until evolution kicked in well enough for them to be a properly functional species. They can also have infertile children with the dwarves and elve that still carry human remnant dna. This is how my protagonist was born!

And that is all I have on mixed people species in my world building. Yes, I did make up a whole deus ex machina explanation for the quetzalin when I realized I had a cool idea but had gone too far into the science side of world building to make it make sense XD even I have to use "rule of cool" sometimes.

So, um.. Hi! I'm StayDandy!

I live in USA .. English is my first and (sadly) only language, but I want to learn Korean (I've gotten to the point of knowing the alphabet, being able to read/sound out words, understand a bit of the sentence structure, and recognize/remember a precious few words).

I started to get into Asian dramas and music early 2021. I've been watching & reading anime & manga/manwha, since college (*cough*, 10 years ago *cough*), but my interest had faded over time. Until last year's nose-dive back into dramas (Prison Playbook cracked the door, and I slammed it open!). I've been obsessed ever since! 😆 The interest in K/J/C-Music is newer; I hadn't really explored it before this past year (unless you count when PSY originally released Gangnam Style lol) .. I still listen to American music, but K/J/C music has taken over my Spotify, it's now the dominant genre (throw in a little Swedish power-metal and that's basically my Library in a nutshell).

I started exploring the whump community on Tumblr this past April - I was honestly amazed there were so many people with this interest, same as me! I started posting in May - I wanted to join in the fun, & contribute my own backlog of lists (I'd been writing them for over a decade after all, might as well put them to good use).

So.. idk if there's any interest.. I thought I'd share a detailed look at my List posts .. some of it is rather self-explanatory, but some of it might not be .. maybe this'll clarify what & why I format them the way I do.

Post Breakdown (below the break) :

I'll use this surprisingly popular post as an example (really would not have guessed that Bridal Mask would receive the attention it did).

First, of course, you get the show title (in English & it's original language) .. a picture for the show (I try to use a pic that has the whumpee(s) in it) .. then a quick synopsis of the show. Simple, self-explanatory.

At the end of the synopsis I include a direct link to an official data site for the show (usually it's MyDramaList for Asian shows, and between Wikipedia or InternetMovieDatabase for English shows). • I include the "AKA" because there are quite a few shows that go by multiple names because of different translations/interpretations of the original title, or even official title changes before it aired. I've had the issue before of trying to find a show using (unknowingly) an uncommon translation of the title, which made it difficult to find what I was looking for. So, JIC, I include them here.

If there's multiple whumpee's I will color-code them, which carries throughout the list. • The links on the actor names are searches of my Tumblr. It's an easy way to see if I have any other lists with said actor in it. (I don't include them on English lists because I rarely have multiple lists with the same English actor. In the case that I do, I'll add the link)

The country links back to that country's whump list library.

Next are the notes about the show (any interesting details, what it's adapted from, ect.).. notes about my list.. &/or just my general thoughts on the show.

I use ellipsis ( ... ) for when there's a break between whump scenes. • Every now and then I will include my own thoughts amongst the whump, usually "subscript & in blue" • You can see the color-coding in action (I wish Tumblr had more color options). • When there's multiple whumpees I use a kinda "tag-you're-it" system : -- I mention a Character (A) and their whump until [chronologically in the episodes] something happens to Character (B), any whump following is (B)'s whump.. until (A) is mentioned by name again, then everything after is (A)'s whump ... and so on and so forth.

(Apparently Tumblr only actually uses the first 20 tags on a post, which is incredibly unhelpful. I still try to include all the key-words in my tags, but they're more for my own quick reference when I manually organize my posts.)

IM STILL ALIVE. i like to think that i never rlly left, but I havent posted in a damn while and part of that is because life stuff caught up with me and moreso because uhhhhhh Well im not quite satisfied with the way my blogs formatted right now, it makes posting and organizing and navigating harder than it has to be and it makes it Not Fun to post things.

SO. what we're gonna do is revamp things a lil bit. we're fucking doing this we are Making It Happen. what this'll do is itll make it easier for me to post things without having to remember every silly tag and rule i have set up here, and ill also just have a bit more of a laid-back and fun kinda art blog. i tried to do an elaborate tagging system, but MAN i am too forgetful for that.

so im just gonna keep it simple. character, fandom, content warnings, and maybe some other flavourtags. the sorts of things thatll make it easier for me to just pop up a quick drawing on even a busy day without having to go through a silly step by step process on how to tag things. because i love sharing my art and posting :)) but not so much when it is difficult </3

hi. i like to draw but lately my art skills have been a bit shakey, i think im out of practice so im probably gonna start out doing some studies. my styles and designs for characters are always changing, but lately ive been trying to cement some designs that are in my brain Onto Paper.

im goblinrockcandy but you can call me GRC if that's a mouthful (thats what i call me because i do not have time for 5 syllables). im a Knight of Heart and sometimes that gets shortened to KoH and so sometimes people call me koh. now KOH is also the chemical formula for potassium hydroxide, but no one calls me that (a real shame, it flows right off the tongue and i think its a lovely set of sounds), but potassium hydroxide also goes by another name and that is lye. so sometimes people call me lye. i don't have a name so if you want to refer to me you have to get creative or pick up my blog by the scruff of its handle like a really ugly cat and point at it and say "this motherfucker right here".

same goes for pronouns. my pronouns are none/applicable. you gotta BE CREATIVE if you want to refer to me... pronouns are a crutch. they were your training wheels and now im the final boss. you have to fight me with your other words, this is what you have been training for.......

ASA: Scorched Earth 1

Too bad, here it is.

I find myself back in the familiar desert ARK. Though, there's a lot more foliage than I remember. I've set up near the green Obelisk again. Hey- if it works, it works. Home is a nice leisurely stroll from the Obelisk and the lake at its base. I've taken my chair down to the water and fished a while. The usual fares, though sometimes its like the fish are so fat they were meant for the oceans on a different ARK.

I had a rough start with my tames. Some bandits came along and slaughtered my first raptor, and my jugbug roasted itself in a panic. It took a few tries, but they're dealt with, at least for now.

Alright, got a house started up. As I get more resources I'll be able to expand it, push the walls out. This'll do for now. I've even got a 'backyard' at the back cliff I can park my critters in. Put a small garden on the roof and some water reservoirs along the edge of the cliff. Even with the lake nearby, I'm going to need what I can get.

Had my first encounter with a Ceratosaurus. Something about them gives me the creeps. It's like it knows that you know that it's there. And they're all covered in toxic spines too. I've got to get me one of those.

I've found a creature that the system is identifying as Leonis. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure those are just lions. With the help of my dire wolf for mobility, I was able to tame a whole pride. A small pride, but a pride nonetheless. Over time I'll be able to expand it.

I should probably put a fence around the 'yard'. Note to self.

I was lucky enough to find a Ceratosaurus that had a child with it. That would allow me to bypass the more complicated method of taming them. I tried to move back to base too fast though, and the baby Cerato got eaten by a pride. Oops. I'll have to try again, probably the main method instead.

I've got the start of decent technology now with the Fabricator. Got a dilemma: Do I save my metal for a better forge, or spend it as I need it? Currently I'm doing my best to save it after upgrading my metal tools. Home is starting to look decent, though its still fairly flat and has no internal dividers or rooms. I did get around to putting in that fence too. I'm keeping the pride outside of it for defense, but all my harvesters can be kept safe when they're not in use.

The desert has got a certain rhythm to it. I go out, harvest some cactus sap and wood. To use the sap, I need sand, so I harvest sand and stone. Then with the total resources I can expand my base a bit more. Then I need more wood, and might as well get more sap.

Those bandits are at it again. You would think the lions outside my house would've sent a message, "Don't". Guess the appeal that maybe this time they'll be lucky is too strong of an appeal. They are persistent though. I'm having a hard time putting this all down because they won't stop.

Oh, I can probably build the Arrakeen Fabricator. With that I can build a spice harvester. The harvester machine takes a lot of metal that I don't have though.

Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World

Every now and then I have a bit of a Wonder Boy kick. Hey dude, Wonder Boy in Monster Land on the Master System was my childhood, and I'm convinced it was an absolutely-blessed one to the point where if you take the average Nintendork's love for Ocarina of Time and just replace the game with Wonder Boy, that pretty much captures what it means to me.

I'd played pretty much every game in the series back when, right up until one day I got hold of a CD ROM for my Windows 95 PC with a Megadrive emulator (for what it's worth, KGEN) and like 500 or so ROMs. One of them was, what, Monster World IV? Couldn't understand a word of it, or get very far, but I wished that one day it'd be translated into English somehow so I could enjoy it.

And eventually it was! Initially for the Wii Virtual Console in an age where I didn't own a Wii, but then for the Wonder Boy SEGA Vintage Collection on XBLA and I very much owned an XBox 360. And I played it right after beating its immediate predecessor Wonder Boy in Monster World for the umpteenth time (a game I do very much also love) and then was excited to get around to this'n, finally.

Long story short, Ice Pyramid. That fucking ice pyramid. But I'm skipping a few chapters here.

So initially one thing that struck me about the game was how beautiful it all was. I mean it. So much character in every visual asset, the colours, the scenery. I was in love. Obvious care and attention to detail in every pixel, even if there's something of a tutorial tower that sorta-kinda overstays its welcome. More than a bit. Quite a lot. When will this thing end? Legend has it there's an alternate dimension in which I'm still trapped there.

No, right, but it's cool. You beat that introductory section of the game and get the expansive town hub of Rapadanga City. NPCs are full of character, there's a whole bunch of stuff to do (and learn how the multi-tiered/layered navigation of spaces works, this'll come in handy later) and... ...four portals. In the first of a fair few letdowns from games prior, it appears that traversal to basically the game's dungeons is less an organic and diegetic affair than what has come before, and just four doors. All of which gated by elemental medallions which, in turn, are gated behind plot developments and, well, I guess this is throwbacky to those Monster Land days? Maybe?

Enter Letdown Number Two: the dungeons. They're fine, good, things to do and lots to see. And then you fight a boss, and it's like, that sure was a Wonder Boy dungeon. And then the dungeon keeps on fucking going because apparently the game can get away with having only four of these things if they're double-length; with two bosses; right?

Evidently, this is where the care and attention to detail in the art cost the game in other areas, because now we've got to suffer Dungeon and then Dungeon Two Electric Boogaloo which reuses the same assets because back in 1994 cartridge EPROM space was still apparently kinda expensive?

But hey, the game's beautiful and varied, right? RIGHT?

And now we're back to the Ice Pyramid. Remember when I said you do a dungeon, then do it again for double-dungeon depression? Ice Pyramid is actually three; a veritable trio of torment, a trilogy of tedium; all of which clad in basically samey and repetitive icy blue bricks aside from some puzzle sections with statues.

Said puzzles are excellent, but the fact that it felt like I was on this part of the game forever burned me the fuck out on the SVC release of this, so I never got much further than the magic carpet ride before the air dungeon. Because my brain was like, no, we've had enough now. Nope. Won't play it.

Until, y'know, we get a shiny new rerelease with PlayStation 4 trophies and saving anywhere and whatnot. C'mon, dopamine receptors, you and I can finally beat the game this time, right?

In theory, yeah, I sure could. Had an initial hurdle early on with said saving, because there's no autosave; dying on a boss and then having to replay like 40 minutes of repetitive tutorial tower wasn't my idea of fun, really. So not only can you save anywhere, you're expected to -- and the wise old sage who was the original game's savepoint system is now a pointless guy who stands in dungeons sometimes to tell you "I'm surprised you got this far!". Nice. Awesome. Shut the fuck up.

Anywho, I beat it, and it was good-not-great, and honestly I think I'll go back and beat the Megadrive version in the near future just for the trophies on the Wonder Boy collection I have for PS4 and I probably won't hate it. Except for the Ice Pyramid. 3.5/5

im a bit late to this, but since I voted for Sa i thought i'd give my 2 cents on it!

note that I haven't done most of the recent fu hua arc yet, ik Sa shows up and maybe present-day Sa is less insane or whatev- but I'm mostly referring to the OG Vita in the last days of the original Venus civilization so i don't think that'll be an issue? i hope x-x

this'll get long 'cuz i have a lot to say so apologies in advance for that

TL;DR: OG Vita knew her actions were likely to ruin her entire world, but she refused to listen to Dr. Marah and acted out of line in order to try and desperately grab a pyrrhic victory against Honkai. She didn't just enact the "worst" plan, she actively rejected the other, better plan and immediately went to desperate measures. everyone else on the list has eccentricities and has done questionable things, but none of them (not even Dr. MEI) would've done what OG Vita did on Purusha with the Soul system.

Sa keeping her coworkers as pets and dehumanizing them was evil, but I wouldn't say that's what makes her an unhinged scientist. What I think truly makes her absolutely insane is that she willingly annihilated her whole planet because she refused to compromise and hold onto hope. She lost her mind before activating the soul system, and Dr. Marrah failed to stop her in time.

The thing is that Venus' civilization would've fallen to Honkai, but just like the PE of Earth, Finality shoulda done its thing and a new civilization should have arose. But when OG Vita removed the limits of the Soul System and caused the "Tsunami", the resulting cataclysm didn't just kill off her civilization- it irreparably ruined the planet's biosphere and even changed its rotation. Venus will never see life again, short of some miraculous terraforming project by Earth's civilization. Even the worst of Project Stigma wouldn't have done that to Earth.

Project Stigma was considered the worst of the worst solutions and left as a back-up if all else failed. Even then, Dr. MEI had contingencies (tasking Su to stop Kevin), and Kevin himself was willing to hold on and suffer to give the rest of humanity a chance to prove him wrong. Kevin wouldn't compromise because he needed the new generation to prove themselves capable, not because he believed they were fundamentally misguided.

But when Dr. Marah suggested their own version of Project Ark, OG Vita became furious, refused to accept it, then came up with the idea of unleashing the Soul System. OG Vita was given a clear opportunity to give at least part of her civilization a chance to survive, and she passed it by to instead jump to the most extreme measure. She "succeeded" in that Honkai disappeared... but only because she destroyed her own planet so thoroughly that even the Cocoon couldn't give a damn about it.

I feel like that absolutely blows anyone else's actions out of the water. Mobius acted immorally but always did measured and careful actions and was wary of its consequences, even finding MEI's Project Stigma to go too far. Dr. MEI herself knew she was planning the worst-case scenario but still found ways to give the next generation a chance to make a difference. Vill-V... well she's certainly crazy, but aside from the one rogue/evil personality, all of her actions still had some logic behind them. Vill-V as a whole wasn't unhinged, only certain aspects of her which the rest of her mind sought to rein in.

finally, i'll quote the actual conversation OG Vita had with Dr. Marah since it was a pretty brief part of a very action-packed and dense story, and i imagine most people have forgotten the details by now. Because it's so long I'm making it a post on my own blog and it's linked here.

So yeah... Sa/OG Vita was a bit more than unhinged imo

Ultimately it's an arbitrary description, it's not like we can quantitatively measure "unhingedness", so i can't claim that Sa is 100% the most unhinged doctor on that list. But I do feel like people tend to gloss over just how terrible her actions on Purusha were.

Everything in HI3rd's story is about fighting to give all of humanity a chance, giving it everything you got, and to avoid making extreme sacrifices in the name of victory. Part 1's finale was all about stopping Kevin from enacting the "worst plan". The whole point was to stop one person, Kevin, from taking the fate of the world in his hands... and even Kevin himself gave the protagonists a chance to prove him wrong.

Sa/OG Vita was the person that looked at her own world's "worst plan" and didn't reluctantly accept it... she ran at it with arms wide open and fervently embraced the possibility that her entire world would be annihilated. I'd say her destruction is objectively worse than even Finality itself because even the PE Herrscher of Finality didn't wipe out all life on Earth. And she didn't hear Marah out or give her civilization a chance to prove her wrong... she went and did what she wanted knowing how risky it was, and now her world will never be able to sustain a single living being ever again.

Taking that into account, I'd say she's probably one of the top most evil/insane of all Hoyoverse characters...

Reasons try out Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.

Nintendo's been pretty casual with porting Wii U games over to the Switch, and for good reasons. Normally, I'm not all into porting games that I've already played, but my personal favorite games on the system that lack good marketing and advertising are now getting the attention and love they deserve.

Take Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for example, one of my favorite 2D platfomers. The game originally sold 1.72 million copies worldwide on the Wii U. Not very good numbers, huh? However, the Switch port managed to beat those sales numbers with 2.25 million units sold worldwide by the end of March 2019.

So while this could be seen as a way for Big N to earn more $$$, this is also a way for those who never owned a Wii U and missed out on some of the system's best titles to give these games a shot. Now we just need a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X and The Wonderful 101...and Star Fox Zero, I guess.

But that's a topic for another time. This post is specifically for my favorite JRPG on the Wii U only to be tied with Xenoblade Chronicles X....Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.

This'll be a long one, so here's hoping you'll stick with it until the end.

Development

Before I get into the reasons, lemme educate you guys a bit. Back in January 2013, both Atlus and Intelligent Systems made a teaser trailer for a potential Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem crossover for the Wii U.

The trailer was mostly just a slideshow with various character artwork. Despite this, there was a decent amount of hype surrounding it. But development around the game was pretty silent. That is, until we fast forward to the Nintendo Direct in April 1, 2015. We got a trailer of the ambitious SMT x FE crossover that fans were waiting for...but this was the final product.

Needless to say...neither SMT nor FE fans were happy about this. The fandoms were incredibly salty and foaming at the mouths, basically calling it a Person 4 Lite with a hint of FE. Heck, they're probably still posts on this site from 5 years ago that'll show that.

Fast forward to the games initial release, and you'll see quite a few positive reviews and thoughts about TMS. Unfortunately, the sale numbers were not all that great for the game. Obvious reasons being that it was a Wii U game, and many fans of both SMT x FE were not happy with how it turned out.

And to be honest, I wasn't feeling the game myself at first. It seemed too lighthearted and upbeat, and the J-Pop, anime-ish aesthetics were very off-putting. However, the more I saw about the game, the more I was drawn into it. Somehow all that disappointment I had about TMS originally just washed away. And considering it was a new IP, I decided to give it a chance. And hoo boy...I was generally pleased.

With that outta the way, let's get into why I'm excited for the Switch port of game, and hoping people will give it a fairer chance.

The Setting

The plot of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is mostly simple. You start out as high schooler Itsuki Aoi, the main character of the game encountering his childhood friend Tsubasa Oribe at an audition event to become a idol. It isn't until moments later in the game that the area gets overruned by shadowy creatures known as Mirages that suck out the creative energy known as Perso-- ah I mean Performa from the other idols and audience.

Poor girl doesn't know what's gonna happen next.

Despite our main characters seeming unharmed by the effect, the Mirages drag Tsubasa into their world known as the Idolsphere. And of course, courageous Itsuki takes action to follow and rescue her.

After trying to make a daring rescue, Itsuki gets bombarded by a Mirage, but somehow manages to awaken it. Taking the form of Fire Emblem Awakening's protagonist Chrom. Itsuki does the same with the Mirage that captured Tsubasa that takes the form of Cedea from Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon. The two awakaned Mirages, however, suffer from a bit of amnesia and can't quite remember who and what they are.

From there on, Itsuki and Tsubasa form a partnership with Chrom and Cedea, encountering various characters trying to reach their way to stardom while trying to draw back the opposing forces from taking over Tokyo and the world. Typical RPG stuff, am I right?

It's a fairly standard and slightly cliche plot with some common anime tropes, but for this game...it works. It's a plot that's incredibly silly, upbeat, and over-the-top, but again...it works for this game. And I love it. It may not be original, deep, or complex, but the story does its best to not take itself too seriously, and it doesn't fail to keep a smile in my face.

Aside from the vanilla cookie-cutter MC Itsuki, the various casts that you meet are incredibly charming, and go through their own personal growth as celebrities. Though you mileage may vary on this.

The Gameplay

The combat is the real star of Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Basically, it's your standard turn-based combat system...but with a few twists. If you've ever played a SMT or Persona game, then don't be surprised that elemental weaknesses make an appearance here. Along with that, the Triangle Weapon system from Fire Emblem also makes an appearance in the game.

But if you're not familiar with either franchise then give you a basic example how this works. Say that you've encountered an armored Mirage wielding an axe. The weaknesses on that enemy are both lightning and swords, and Itsuki just so happens to have both the necessary element and weapon equipped.

In case you're wondering...how the Triangle Weapon mechanic works in FE is that Swords beat Axes, Axes beat Lances, and Lances beat Swords.

The interesting thing about this is that once you exploit an enemy's weakness, other characters will jump in and combo extra attacks. These are called Sessions, and their not only powerful...but also flashy as all hell and it's glorious. Not only that, but there's also Duo Arts where two certain characters will sometimes perform a song that unleashes a powerful attack...which also strings up more Sessions. As broken as this sounds, it actually is pretty strategic for taking down harder enemies, and they can also form Sessions...so be careful.

There's more to the gameplay like roaming Tokyo, exploring dungeons, and upgrading your characters and Mirages by Tiki from Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon as well.

There's mixed opinions on the dungeon aspects of Tokyo Mirage Sessions, but...I personally enjoyed them. Aside from the first one. Once you get past the first dungeon, they get better as the game progresses. From exploring a darker version of Shibuya where you have to avoid giant cameras from sending you back to the entrance of the of the room you currently entered, to venturing through a maze-like TV studio.

There's also side-missions that you can do with your main cast that'll help them grow and develop even further. You'll be rewarded with either a special cutscene or a special attack. Or maybe both.

The Visuals

Go go...Persona Rangers?

If it wasn't obvious from the amount of images I'm posting, Tokyo Mirage Sessions is a very colorful game. Fitting with it's lighthearted theme, the amount of colors the game throws at you makes visuals aesthetically pleasing. Heck, you could make these your personal wallpaper on your phone or something.

Sure, Tokyo Mirage Sessions isn't nearly as strong as Persona 5 graphically or even artistically, but like most Nintendo games...what their games lack in terms of detailed ultra-hyper graphics, they make up for it with giving their games gorgeous artstyles.

Also, this game has some reeeeeally good artwork.

The Music

J-Pop plays a pretty big role in Tokyo Mirage Sessions, so expect a lot of vocal tracks. If you're not into this kind of genre of music, then you might wanna stray away from this game. If you are (or if it doesn't bother you), then you're in for a treat. As someone who really isn't into J-Pop myself, the songs in this game are incredible and catchy followed by some beautiful cutscenes. Reincarnation from Kiria Kurono and Feel from Tsubasa Oribe are some of my personal favorites.

The music from outside the vocal tracks are pretty good too. The normal battle theme and the Illusion Shibuya dungeon theme are just to name a couple.

What's New?

Like I said before, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore is a port of the Wii U version, but with added content. Any DLC that was added in the original game will part of the base game in the Switch version. But let's talk about the new stuff.

EX Story and Songs

The EX Story is basically a dungeon that you explore in short bursts. Here you'll find new costumes such as a Joker outfit from Persona 5 for Itsuki, or an Annette outfit from Fire Emblem Three Houses for Mamori Minamoto. Or you can have a much easier time grinding for EXP. Also, much like the side-stories, this dungeon will also explore the main casts' issues and help them grow.

New songs will also be added in this port. A duo song called "She is..." sung by Tsubasa and Kiria is one of them.

Sessions

By making Sessions even more powerful and ridiculous, unplayable characters like Tiki, Maiko Shimazaki, and Barry Goodman will also join in Sessions.

In addition, a Quick Session option will be added. Which is a major upgrade in my book. One of the big issues the Wii U version had was while the Sessions were fun to watch, they took forever to get through with the more characters that joined your party. There are also smaller improvements like the Switch version having faster loading times.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this long as hell post will spark some interest into those who'll give the game a shot. I know there's small nitpicks like the lack of English voice acting and censorship, but the latter is a topic I'd rather not delve deep into.

Regardless, these small cons are greatly outweighed by the large pros this charming game has. If you're an Atlus fan, a lover of JRPGs, or wanting to play something that'll ease the wait for Persona 5 Royal, I highly recommend you give Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE encore a shot.

If you're also waiting for Persona 5 to actually come to the Switch like me, this game is next best thing we've got for the time being.

Future of the Fortress Highlights

On Adventure Mode's Art and Sound

[...] In the "definitely need it" category, we have the mid-level travel maps vs. towns/etc., and stuff like combat/movement indicators that we didn't need in fort mode.[...]We're currently giving some attention to aboveground plants which are much more visible in adventure mode (but this will also impact aboveground fort farms of course.)

On Updating Animal Life Cycles

I was surprised at a few of the ones that didn't have a CHILD tag when I was going through. I'm sure some of it just depends on who their "copy paste" parent was way back when they were created, and since children were basically irrelevant back then, it just didn't come up. I don't know which if any will be changed in the upcoming update, though, since I'm just going to go with the art I've received, and those assignments were entirely based on existing tags, though I possibly missed or added some by accident ha ha.

On Classic UI

'D' [instead of the magnifying glass] doesn't mean anything obvious either, really, at the first encounter. It also maybe implies a hotkey. It's all down to tooltips in the end, if we have little square buttons in ASCII, which we are stuck with for now and which are always pretty bad. Ultimately we may be able to decouple the one-to-one match up a bit, but that won't be possible if I can't maintain it.

On Creature Generation in MythGen

To add to the replies, there's also that concept of the constrained dragon generator I've mentioned from time to time, and that applies to things like elves too, where there are lots of concepts that get mixed up, producing something 'elf'-like for a given setting. And there's the 'editor' style constraints, and the myth-imposed constraints. Once we have frameworks like that in place, we should be in a good position. We want to be able to build up raw definitions in various ways, with various stakeholders in the outcome - this seems possible anyway ha ha.

On Becoming the Villain (in adventure mode)

For the first question, yeah, this'll almost certainly be the case, in the general sense of your old character being an ongoing villain that needs hunting. All of the data structures and information will be the same, and it'll be set up for the AI to just take over - all of your subordinates will already be using this code while you are still playing, presumably even producing clues that you can stupidly/ironically follow to hunt yourself. That's the hope/intention/design, anyway, and I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work[,] though I'm sure some hiccups will arise. One I can think of is knowing the overall intent of your character - the game will act out their existing plots and relationships once you retire, but knowing broadly where they want thing to go needs some more info. This is a general issue with retirement overall I think we've mentioned before, but we haven't done anything with it aside from adding personalities and values to chargen.

For the second question[as being able to track your character down], I can't say yet, since I'm not sure how that system is going to work at a granular level. Certainly any new plots your adventurer hatches will fall under the investigation system that exists, but it may be trickier to find clues for existing plots, although each of the subactors that continues operating will likely generate them as they advance the existing plots step by step. But getting that first lead may feel different for retired player villains, and it may take some time to find it. That's my intuition now anyway.

On Procedurally Generated Superpowers

Yeah, as PatrikLundell suggests, I think the "bloodline of one" extreme would get you here, or maybe the corruption mechanics as well (which would be related to a blessing-style system as well, which is virtually the same as the current necromancer system.) It just needs a reason to generate a unique thing and it'd do it. And it needs to understand if children are affected and you might want a 100% wobble on that to make those unique too (or less to make them related powers, which just takes us back to a typical bloodline scenario), seems feasible. There are some practical limits on the number of simultaneous systems, but power definitions are pretty light weight.

So overall, I feel like we'd start within range, and then subsequent changes/mods/editor profiles would land you around where you want to be.
