Clint’s Birthday (Clint Barton x Reader)
Y’all, this literally took so long for me to figure out, and then with me being back to school and everything, I didn’t even have time to try. But, today, after I had two different math tests, I mustered enough brain cells not to ask for another fic by wonderful writers, but to finish the one I started immediately after posting Tony’s Birthday.
Warnings: Mentions of pregnancy, reader is Clint’s wife, canon until after AoU bc there was no need for CA:CW, reader has long enough hair that she puts it up while fighting (could just be a clip or a short pony tail depending on the length of your hair), mentions of a miscarriage being a potential outcome to the pregnancy, Clint asks if they’re going to keep the baby, Vision not having a filter, and probably more but I don’t think anything should need a trigger warning or something to that effect.
I’m gonna say it again though, reader is Clint’s wife, and she is pregnant, there are mentions of possibly losing the baby with as early as they are in the pregnancy, and Clint does ask if they’re going to keep the baby. If any of these topics are triggering to you, do not read this.
Word Count: 3266
Summary: While dealing with the major threat that Thanos has become, what will you do when you find out that you’re pregnant? What will happen when the Avengers find out?
Married to Clint Barton, archer extraordinaire for the last 7 years brought a lot of dumb shit your way. As an agent of SHIELD yourself, you met Clint when Fury paired you up for your first mission together. Take down an assassin in Budapest. Obviously, you took a different route and brought Natasha to Fury, having her join SHIELD with the both of you. That mission you met your best friend, and your soon to be boyfriend.
You had met Thor when he came to Earth, as well as Tony Stark when Natasha was working for him, but you had your own mission, helping Captain America adjust to the world. This had made Clint extremely, yet understandably, jealous since you were teaching the Captain America about everything he had missed while being frozen for 70 years. And while you could admit that Steve was an attractive man, you loved Clint so much that you didn’t know how to breathe without him some days. Steve was more like an older brother to you anyways, and he was always willing to protect you, including the first time he had met Clint. That was one hell of a shitshow, but at least it had a happy ending.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Clint came up behind you, covering your eyes with his hands while you were signing off on something for one of the lower level agents. “Guess who?” He asked lowly.
“Get your hands off Y/N, Agent.” Steve boomed, walking over to the both of you.
“Off my girlfriend, I think not, Captain Rogers.” Clint retorted, sliding his hands down to your shoulders.
Steve looked at you, “Is he lying to me, Y/N?”
“No, Stevie. This is my boyfriend, Agent Clint Barton. I would’ve introduced you earlier but he’s been on a mission in New Mexico. He’s only back now because Loki’s.. Loki.” You said, pulling Clint’s hands down to your waist as he rested his head on your shoulder.
“Sorry, Agent Barton.” Steve apologized sheepishly. “I shouldn’t have assumed so quickly. Y/N’s just had a lot of male attention recently.”
“You’ve what?” Clint asked, tightening his grip on you slightly.
You wiggled, turning in his arms. “It’s really not that big of a deal, some of the newer agents have been hitting on me as either I walk by or they do. I’m handling it, and everything is under control, honey.”
“Marry me.” He said, kissing your nose.
“What?”
“Marry me, and we’ll put a ring on your finger and you’ll never have to worry about it again. Nat has the ring, and I was gonna take you on a date and ask you, but please N/N?”
You smiled and leaned in to kiss him. “Of course I’ll marry you, Robin Hood.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you were married just hours after Thor took Loki back to Asgard. You were also an Avenger, as Fury knew you and Clint worked quite well together in the field, especially after that first mission. Additionally, your banter through the comms was quite amusing and everyone on duty always got quite the kick out of it. Including the fact that you almost always had a dry comment to respond to Tony with.
After Ultron, you and Clint had essentially adopted Wanda and helped her properly grieve the loss of Pietro. That included getting her a therapist and working on her powers with her. While her emotions did still affect her powers, she wasn’t controlled by them anymore. And since Tony turned JARVIS into that Vision.. dude.. FRIDAY was the new AI around the compound and Wanda had fallen madly in love with Vision. An AI. Yeah, it’s weird, but you and Clint did the best you could with her.
Since you had managed to talk Tony out of the Sokovia Accords, the Avengers splitting never happened and Steve had even gotten Bucky back, on the basis that he also went to therapy due to the amount of trauma he had gotten working for HYDRA for 70 some odd years while being brainwashed. You were catching Bucky up with the times and pop culture the same way you had done Steve. Honestly, you held movie nights with the both of them and sent them songs you thought they would like, starting back with the 30’s and 40’s music they were used to and slowly working them up to the music of today.
And while you knew Thor and Loki were still going through some things, as was Bruce, since none of you had seen him since the battle with Ultron, you knew something big was happening, you could feel it coming. You had always had a sort of sixth sense about these things, even knowing when one of your coworkers was pregnant before they had said anything, and unfortunately knowing when someone close to you was gonna die. Fortunately, the last time you had seen Thor, you introduced him to phones, and now could call and text both him and Loki whenever you wished. Ah, technology.
“Loki?” You asked, having picked up your phone. “What’s going on?”
“Thanos is coming.” He said. “We’re bringing our people to Earth to keep them safe. Surtur has destroyed Asgard, but we had to do it to keep it out of Hela’s hands. And get as many of the Infinity Stones as you can and destroy them.”
“Woah, Loki. You gotta slow down.” You told him, downing your coffee like a shot. “What’s going on? Who’s Thanos? Who’s Surtur? How has Asgard been destroyed? Where the fuck are we housing all these Asgardian people? Who the fuck is Hela? Also, what the fuck is an Infinity Stone? And how would we destroy them?”
He took a deep breath. “I’ll explain everything when we get here, but Y/N, please know that Earth is in grave danger.” And then Loki hung up on you.
“Oh great. More people. I gotta make some calls.” You said, sighing and dialing the number for Maria Rambeau. “Maria, where the fuck is Carol at? I need the Guardians of the Galaxy. I have questions.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the middle of all of this, since the Guardians were on their way to where they knew one was hiding, hoping to get there before Thanos, you realized that the sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach hadn’t gone away. But now you felt nauseous on top of it. So, you decided maybe you’d go see Doctor Cho, maybe she’d have an answer for you.
“Oh there’s an answer, all right.” Doctor Cho said, chuckling at the results.
“What? Am I dying? I can’t leave Clint! He’d kill Tony!”
“You’re not dying, Mrs. Barton. You’re 5 weeks pregnant.”
You were completely shocked. “I’m pregnant?” You asked, not believing the words coming out of your mouth.
“Yup.” Helen told you, handing you the results. “Which explains the nausea and your sixth sense, although not the impending sense of doom. But you are an Avenger, so that’s understandable.”
“How am I gonna tell Clint? How do I save the world? Should I even tell him? What if I lose the baby?” You were thoroughly freaking out.
“Y/N, you’re going to be fine. Everything will work out.” Helen told you, resting a hand on your knee to help ground you through your spiraling.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unfortunately, you had believed her, because the next thing you knew, there were 3 infinity stones in the Compound, 2 on the way, with one having been destroyed in the explosion of Asgard. The space stone was in the Tesseract, and Loki had the foresight not to grab it when he was putting Surtur’s crown into the Eternal Flame. Dr. Strange had the time stone in the eye necklace thingy that he kept around his neck, the mind stone was in Vision’s head after Tony had removed it from Loki’s scepter and Ultron had started to make Vision. On the way to Earth, the Asgardians had stopped to grab the reality stone from Knowhere, and the Guardians were on their way with the power stone they had kept from destroying Ronan the Accuser, and the soul stone they were picking up from the place that not even Thanos knows about. Surely, he knows the planet exists, but he doesn’t know what’s hiding there.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Okay, we’re here!” Peter Quill said, running in with the others. “Sorry we’re late. ‘You must give up a soul to receive a soul’ and nobody could decide.”
You looked around at all the Guardians, “But nobody’s missing?”
“I am Groot.” Groot said sadly.
Rocket patted him on the head softly. “I know, buddy. Groot threw his video game system over the edge of the cliff to sacrifice for the stone, and now he can’t ever play one again.”
“It may work a little differently this time, being that these were the first 6 pieces of the universe, but I believe there may be a way to overcome this, once we beat Thanos, of course.” Wanda said, making a small red orb appear in the palm of her hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It wasn’t until hitting it with Bucky’s left arm made a crack in one of the stones that you all realized you needed vibranium to break them. “Strongest metal on Earth.” Tony said, calling King T’Challa.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two hours later, you were all flying into Wakanda for Shuri’s help, knowing that if she could fix Bucky’s HYDRA-scrambled brain, she could fix anything. “Where is the mind stone?” She asked, scurrying around her lab, trying to figure out how to properly destroy the building blocks of the universe.
Vision stepped forward. “In my head.”
“Oh good God.” Shuri said, lining the stones up. “I’ll need to extract it to destroy it. But I will find a way to keep him alive. Anyone with eyes can see how in love the two of you are.” She told Wanda, already muttering something you didn’t understand about microchips and him being part Ultron as well as Tony and Bruce.
As Shuri began extracting the mind stone from Vision’s head, just a few minutes later, aliens beamed down from the sky, presumably Thanos’ minions. They all started clawing at the barrier, humanoid or not, which the vast majority were not.
“Um, Your Majesty? Steve?” You asked, staring out the window in shock. “We might have a problem.”
Clint came up behind you and wrapped you in a hug. “We’ve got this, hun. Let’s go kick some alien ass. Again. For the millionth time in the last 10 years.”
“Second time in 6 years, my love. But I see your point.” You said, slipping into a side room to change into your suit and pull your hair out of your face. “Okay, Y/N,” you muttered to yourself softly, looking in the mirror, “No injuries this time. And once this is all said and done, we’ll tell Clint.”
Walking out of the room, Steve pulled you aside. “What aren’t you telling Clint until after the fight?”
“That’s not for you to know yet, Steve. You’ll find out when the time is right.”
He raised an eyebrow at you. “I can hear the second heartbeat.” You went to open your mouth to make a smart-ass retort, but you bolted into the nearest bathroom and emptied the contents of your stomach into the toilet.
“Don’t tell anyone. And don’t let Bucky say anything either. And I mean nobody, Steven.” Were the three sentences you said before wiping your mouth, flushing, chewing a mint, and getting ready to join the fight.
“Are you sure-”
“Yes. You’re not stopping me, Steve. I know my limits.”
~~~~~~~~~(Time skip because I cannot properly write a fight scene)~~~~~~~~
After the battle was all said and done, nobody died. Except Thanos and all of his minions. Nebula was safe and free from his abuse, Thanos never laid a hand on any of the Infinity Stones, even though he had the gauntlet, and Vision had a computer sourcing his power now instead of the mind stone. He’d have to charge up about once every other day, but Tony was already installing a charger into his side of the bed, so he could charge every time he laid down, and would magically never overcharge.
Clint had almost died, and you gave him hell for it, although he had given you hell right back for taking a knife through one arm and being slashed across the other. You were both going to be scarred pretty badly over this fight, like most of the other Avengers and fights, both mentally and physically. Plus, by the time the fight was over and you were all cleared to go back home, it was Clint’s birthday.
“Happy birthday, honey.” You said, curling further into his chest and drawing circles on it with your finger.
“Thank you, sweetheart. But you know what would make it even better?” He asked, and you didn’t even have to be looking at his face to know that he had just wiggled his eyebrows at you.
You chuckled, rolling your eyes. “We almost died today and you want sex?”
“What can I say, sweetheart? You make me insatiable.”
“Not now, I don’t think. I’m not feeling so great.”
He rolled you off him and propped himself up above you. “Is it your arm? The meds? Is something wrong?”
All you could do was stare at your husband with the biggest heart eyes in the world as you shook your head. “No, well, maybe. Don’t be mad.”
“Did you lie about your symptoms again?”
“That was you.”
“Was it?”
“Yeah. Because you don’t like how loopy you get on sedatives.”
“Oh, right.” He said, rubbing his hand soothingly up and down your thigh. “Well, honey, whatever it is you need to tell me, you know I’ll always be by your side.”
You took a deep breath, looking anywhere but Clint’s eyes. You focused on one of the freckles on his bicep, actually. “How do you feel about being a dad?”
“We’ve talked about this before, honey. Y/N, you know I’ve always wanted to start a family with you.” You looked up at him and saw the same heart eyes looking at you that you had directed at him moments before. You raised your eyebrows a little and gave Clint a little half-smile.
“Clint,” You started, bumping your nose against his softly. “I’m pregnant.”
“I’m actually gonna be a dad?” He asked, a smile growing wider on his face in realization.
You nodded, a smile starting on your face too. “Yeah. You’re gonna be a dad, sweetheart.”
“How far along are you? When did you find out? Have you been doing okay?”
“I found out 2 days ago, and Helen said I’m 5 weeks along. I’ve only puked a few times, but I’ve been nauseous a lot.”
“You found out before we went and fought aliens?” He asked, raising an eyebrow.
You nodded again. “Yes. And you said you wouldn’t be mad no matter what I told you.”
He smiled down at you again before flopping back down onto the bed next to you. “Does anyone else know other than Helen?”
You curled back into his chest. “Steve and Bucky can hear the baby’s heartbeat. Steve asked me if I was sure I should fight when he confronted me. But I know my limits.”
“I know you do, baby, but it’s not just you anymore.” Clint said, wrapping his arm around you and pulling you closer into him. “We are keeping it, right?”
“I was going to, and I had assumed that you wanted to. You do? Right?” You asked, mindlessly drawing shapes on his chest with your finger again.
“Oh baby girl, of course I want it. This baby is going to be very loved, by both of us and all the Avengers.” He said, kissing the top of your head. “Are we gonna tell people?”
“You’re not really supposed to before 12 weeks, since that’s the most likely time to have a miscarriage. The pregnancy is more stable after that and the chance of losing the baby is less.”
“Okay. We can do that. We’re assassins, we can keep a secret for 7 weeks.”
You paused your movements. “Clint, I can’t drink coffee.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The two of you kept it a secret for another 7 hours. Even after swearing FRIDAY to secrecy. To be fair though, it was Vision’s fault.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You had just walked into the kitchen, tired and ready for a cup of coffee when you remembered that you couldn’t have any. So you steered yourself towards the compound fridge, internally groaning, and poured yourself a nice tall glass of cranberry juice to have with your breakfast, not noticing everybody but Steve and Bucky staring at you with their mouths agape.
“Uh, Y/N?” Tony asked. “Wouldn’t you rather coffee? Like every other morning you’ve ever lived here?”
You shrugged. “I’ve loved cranberry juice since I was a kid, nothing wrong with having it for breakfast.”
“Plus, Mrs. Barton, caffeine is highly unrecommended for when you’re pregnant since it can do significant harm to the fetus.” Vision said, sipping at his tea after doing a quick scan of you.
“I- what did you say?” You asked, gripping Clint’s hand under the counter for support.
He turned to look at you. “Did you not know? I had assumed that since you were not drinking your usual coffee, you were already aware of the unborn child growing in your uterus.”
“I- I- Clint?”
“Next thing we program him to do is keep a goddamn secret.” He said, pulling you into a hug and kissing the top of your head. “Yes, we know. Yes, Y/N’s pregnant. Close your fucking mouths before you catch flies.”
You smiled softly as the realization of what Clint said set into everyone’s head. “And Vision, you’ll also find that people aren’t supposed to know until after the 12 week mark when the pregnancy is more stable.”
“You are right, Mrs. Barton. I’m very sorry, both of you, I should’ve let you announce the news when you were ready. I will keep that in mind for the next addition to our family.”
As the news finally flipped a switch, Natasha and Wanda ran over to you squealing and asking questions; Tony, Bruce, Vision, and FRIDAY were figuring out how to add a baby’s room into yours and Clint’s apartment in the Compound; and Steve and Bucky were looking at you and Clint like proud uncles. This was when Sam walked in, not knowing what had just happened, or why there was so much squealing from two very serious, very powerful women.
“What in the goddamn universe is going on in here?!” He asked, looking around for answers.
“Clint and I are having a baby.” You said, trying to keep the smile off your face as Sam’s jaw dropped.
“You fought aliens while pregnant?!?!” He exclaimed, coming over to you to double check that he had heard this right.
You nodded, “I did, yes. And both Baby Barton and I are fine, thanks for asking.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since nothing had actually been accomplished that day except for Tony already planning the addition of the baby’s room, you and Clint had lots of time to look around at your friends family and realize that this kid was going to be the most loved, spoiled kid (thanks, Tony) on the face of the planet.
“This kid might actually turn out okay.” You told Clint softly, watching the Avengers argue over decide what order they were going to hold Baby Barton in once they arrived.
TW: Major Character Death
*One month after S.H.I.E.L.D. successfully stole the file,  it was once again time for The Hunger Games. Bruce was no longer a mentor, but Natasha still had to go to The Capitol. Unfortunately, she couldn’t help as much this year because she couldn’t teach tactical climbing. Luckily, Wanda offered to help Natasha’s tribute learn what he needed to learn. Once the games started, Natasha’s tribute was dead within two days. She decided that she wanted to go home instead of staying in The Capitol.*
Bruce: You’re home early.
Natasha: I missed you. Besides, everyone was asking me questions about the baby and it was a bit overwhelming.
Bruce: Did you convince them to tell you if we’re having a boy or a girl?
Natasha: I asked, but they wouldn’t tell me.
Bruce: I need to mentally prepare if we have to name our child Triffle.
Natasha: *laughs* Yeah.
Bruce: In all seriousness, I’m excited no matter what we’re naming our child.
Natasha: Good. So am I.
*A couple more months go by. S.H.I.E.L.D. successfully carries out a few more missions to subtly weaken The Capitol. The Capitol brought Natasha there to have the baby. Bruce waited in the hallway until he was allowed to go in.*
Nurse: Sir? You can go in now.
*The nurse lead him into the room. *
Bruce: How’re you feeling?
Natasha: Tired. You?
Bruce: Excited. And also very nervous.
Natasha: Okay. Well, there’s someone I’d like you to meet. * handing him a baby with dark hair and blue eyes wrapped in a pink blanket* This is Victoria!
Bruce: *crying* Wow.
Natasha: Is something wrong?
Bruce: No, this moment is just so perfect. I don’t think anything could mess this up.
*Just then, several camera crews and a bunch of reporters barged in. They all started talking at once while crowding Natasha, Bruce, and Victoria. Victoria starts crying.*
Random reporter: Everyone wants to know if it’s a boy or a girl! Why don’t you tell the people what they want to know?
Bruce: Huh? Why are you- she literally just- GET OUT!
Other reporter: We’re allowed to be in here, Snow’s orders. Now, tell us if it’s a boy or a girl!
Bruce: My daughter is not an it!
First reporter again: You heard it here first. It’s a girl! Victoria Banner has officially been welcomed into the world.
Bruce: Okay, will that be all? Because Nat should really be resting and-
A third reporter: We will decide when we’re done here. Now, let us see Victoria!
Bruce: Hey! You get that camera out of her face! You’re scaring her!
Third reporter: Oh, how cute! She has her father’s hair, but her eyes are just like her mother’s. It’s a real shame she’s so loud. If she were quieter she’d be adorable.
Natasha: She was being quiet, then a bunch of people came in here unannounced!
A fourth reporter: That’s a real shame. Where are those people now?
Natasha: Still in here asking me questions.
*All of the reporters and camera crews laugh. They continue to ask questions until Bruce realizes how upset Natasha is getting.*
Bruce: I think it’s time for you to leave. *a few reporters try to argue* You asked your questions, now get out.
*The reporters leave.*
Bruce: Are you okay?
Natasha: I’m tired and overwhelmed, not to mention my whole body hurts. But other than that I’m great.
Bruce: Maybe you should get some rest. *kisses her forehead* I’ll be sitting right here, okay?
Natasha: Okay.
*The next day, they went back home to 12 and everyone came by to meet Victoria.*
Melina: Well isn’t she just cute as a button?
Alexei: She has your eyes, Natasha! And such wonderful dark hair!
Wanda: Can I hold her next?
Natasha: *taking Victoria from Melina* Of course. Say hi to your Aunt Wanda!
Wanda: Aww, she’s so tiny! *Wanda starts bouncing slightly*
Pietro: She’s a baby. What were you expecting?
Bruce: Okay, be careful. Don’t drop her.
Wanda: *stops bouncing* I won’t.
*Later, after everyone leaves but Fury, Maria, Wanda, and Pietro.*
Fury: Okay. *encases them in bubble* We make our first major strike next month, after you’ve had some time to recover and get back to normal. You guys will bring Victoria on the hovercraft because if you leave her home, she may be in danger. Those few days will hopefully be our first and last strike and we should be able to overthrow The Capitol. We’ve been tearing them apart from the inside, and now it’s finally falling into place. The key is to get them to destroy themselves.
Natasha: And we’re starting with the weapons warehouse, right?
Fury: Right. Be prepared for anything, physically and mentally. There is no way all of us are making it through this alive.
Natasha: We’ll be ready.
Wanda: Panem is about to enter a new era, and we’re ready to make sure it’s a change for the better
Bruce: I’m just as ready as these guys, but are you sure we have to bring Victoria?
Maria: It’s that or leave her behind without proper protection.
Bruce: If that’s the only way, I guess it works.
*One month later, everyone was on the hovercraft. They got to the weapons warehouse and Daisy and Leo were sent inside to take plans and sabotage weaponry. Soon, The Capitol catches wind of it and schedules the destruction of the building. Leo gets out and onto the hovercraft in a timely manner.*
Tony: We did it! The Capitol is going to destroy their own building!
Steve: I hate to rain on anyone’s parade, but that Daisy girl is still in there.
Leo: What? She was right behind me!
Daisy (over her communication device): My leg is stuck under a bookshelf that fell while we were running. I’m not getting out of this.
Daniel: No. No, we’re getting you out of there! *stands up* I’ll go in and get you!
Daisy: *the signal is breaking up due to the preparations for the incoming attack* No. I’m not worth that. Besides, you’ll never get us both out in time.  Just leave and win this revolution. You have to. *connection is lost*
Daniel: Daisy?! Do you copy?! We lost her.
Phil: We have to save her! I’m going in.
* A few people try to protest, but Coulson grabs a parachute and jumps down. He runs into the building. A moment later, the building and everything in it is completely obliterated.*
Mack: Yes! The Capitol destroyed its own warehouse!
Melinda: No. Nonononono. We have to get them out of there.
Fury: We have to move along. This revolution is not going to win itself.
Daniel: But what about Phil and Daisy? They’re still in the building!
Grant: There is no building! It’s been reduced to rubble! We have to go.
Melinda: No, Phil has this talent. He never actually dies. He has to be alive, we have to get them out of there!
Daniel: If it were any one of us down there, Phil and Daisy wouldn’t give up.
Fury: Maria, why don’t you handle this?
Maria: *sigh* In 12, we coal miners have a policy. We never abandon a mining accident until it’s completely hopeless.
Melinda: See?! We can’t abandon them until this is hopeless!
Maria: That being said, we need to go.
Melinda: What? No. It isn’t hopeless! We need to search the building!
Grant: What building?! The building is gone! They’re gone.
Melinda: *holding back tears* We’re sure it’s hopeless? *Everybody but Daniel, Natasha, and Wanda nods.* Okay then. I- I need a minute. *runs to the next room in the hovercraft*
Daniel: *sobbing* No! We can’t leave them here! I don’t care about your stupid mining policy, this isn’t hopeless! *into his communication device* Daisy! Daisy Johnson, do you read me?!
Tripp: *sniff* She’s gone, Sousa. Give it up. This is going to be rough on all of us, but we can’t lose this now. You heard what Maria said. We wouldn’t be abandoning this unless it was absolutely hopeless.
Natasha: *also holding back tears* Maria forgot half of the policy.
Wanda: That’s right, she did.
Maria: What do you mean?
Natasha: Clint always used to say that an accident is never hopeless until every last miner loses hope. If he were here, we’d keep looking.
Fury: Barton’s been dead for two years! Stop acting like he’d be saying anything if he were here right now!
Natasha: Just one quick scan. That way, we’ll know for sure if anyone is still breathing under that rubble.
Peggy: *pressing the scan button* I guess it couldn’t hurt to- well, would you look at that! One survivor, female, about 19 years old. DNA match for Daisy Johnson.
Daniel: I’ll get her! *tries to run out of the hovercraft*
Gamora: You might want to use a parachute.
Daniel: Right.
*Once Daisy was back on the hovercraft, they put her on the bed in the medical area and dealt with her injuries. Daniel sat next to the bed and waited for her to wake up.*
Daisy: *opens her eyes* Huh? What happened?
Daniel: You’re alive! I mean, obviously we knew you were breathing but we weren’t sure if you were going to wake up. What’s the last thing you remember?
Daisy: The warehouse. I was stuck under the bookshelf and Coulson threw a soundproof bubble at me and encased me in it. Then everything went black.
Daniel: That must be what protected you from the initial explosion. After that, you must have been hit by falling rubble or something.
Daisy: Wait, where’s Coulson? I don’t see him here in the medical area, so what happened to him?
Daniel: I’m so sorry, I know he was like a father to you.
Daisy: *sits up* He’s dead?!
Daniel: Please lie back down, we don’t know if it’s safe for you to be sitting up-
Daisy: *tearing up* So he died to save me? You let him run into that building to get me unstuck? I’m not worth that! You should have left me there! You all should have left me there! I told you to go!
Jemma: Everyone tried to convince him to stay on the hovercraft, but he went in anyway.
Daisy: You should have tried harder!
Bruce: Daisy, lie down. We need to check you for a concussion. *Daisy reluctantly complies*
Daniel: We couldn’t just leave you there. You would have been killed.
Daisy: Next time, let me die.
Name: Pietro Maximoff Age: 28 Occupation: retired Olympic athlete Faceclaim:  Aaron Taylor-Johnson
BACKGROUND
Fast. That’s what Pietro had always been good at; being fast. He was the first one to be born because even in the womb he couldn’t wait on his sister, he wanted to experience life to the fullest. He was an active young child, always seeking adventure, always on the move, anything to drain his seemingly never ending supply of energy. It felt like the world was always stuck in slow motion as he was left waiting for life to catch up. Despite being born on the same day, he and his sister were total opposites in this regard. As active, loud and impatient Pietro could be, the quieter, patient and hesitant his sister was, but it was because of this that his sister managed to keep him out of trouble most of the days.
Fast. Even with emotions and thoughts, he took care of them with quick pace. Even though his sister took much longer to deal with the death of their parents, Pietro pushed aside his grief. He figured that if he didn’t stopped to think about his loss, the pain wouldn’t hurt as much. So he focused his time and energy in the one thing he knew best; running.
Fast. That’s what people called him when he tried out for the local relay team. He broke record after record with his fast pace and complete dedication, moving from the short-track team based sport to officially running long track. They called him a protogé, they called him a promise for great glory. If you were to compare him with any other Olympic runner, he wouldn’t seem all that special but for such a small town in East-Europe, he was their hopes and dreams.
Fast. It all went terribly fast. He was at the starting line, ready to blow the Olympic stadium away with his speed and skill. He had his eye on the prize, a shining medal around his neck to make his sister, friends and his home proud, a tribute to his parents whose deaths - or the lack of acknowledging their passing more like it - had motivated him to push through. His heart was beating almost as fast as he wanted his feet to run, waiting to hear the start signal. And he heard it. He heard the gunshot echo through the stadium but his feet didn’t move, no one dared to move. Instead of feeling the adrenaline pour through his veins, the wind dancing against his skin and through his hair as he traveled as close to the speed of light as he could, all he felt was pain. Excruciating pain running through his lower torso. He fell, he screamed, he hurt. People flocked around him, sirens in the background as medical personnel moved fast.
Fast. That is how Pietro would describe his career. It ended as fast as it began. It was a freak accident, or maybe it was sabotage, he didn’t even care at this point. The aftermath of the starting signal he so desperately wanted to hear was a painful reminder that in reality, wanting too much too fast out of life would never lead to anything good.
Slow. His process of recovery was excruciatingly slow. He had to learn how to walk again, baby steps and one foot at a time. No matter how hard he tried, how impatient he got, the world moved slow. But he knew he was never going to be the same again.
PERSONALITY
Pietro is a rather cocky, arrogant, impatient, tenacious and quick-tempered person but with a fun-loving and semi-serious flare. He is very competitive and enjoys taunting people.
Extra:  Has a scar on his left side from where the bullet shot through and hit his spine.
Vision's debut of super speed on WandaVision signals Wanda's emerging memories of her brother, Quicksilver. Episode 3 sees Wanda going into labor less than a day after she discovers she is pregnant, so Vision goes to find the doctor before he leaves for Bermuda and uses his brand new speedy superpower to transport them back to Wanda. Since she controls this version of Vision, it makes sense that he'd have a power normally reserved for Wanda's brother Pietro.
Wanda's fantasy sitcom world stems from years of repressed trauma. One of the most devastating experiences she had was losing her twin, Pietro, to Ultron in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Pietro (a.k.a. Quicksilver) was her protector and confidante, but ultimately he used his superhuman speed to sacrifice his own life while saving Hawkeye and a Sokovian child. Though Wanda kept a photo of her brother in her room at the Avengers compound (glimpsed in Captain America: Civil War) Wandavision marks the first time Pietro has been mentioned by name since his death in Age of Ultron.
Even though Wanda can manipulate reality at will, the Marvel movies have not yet explored her comic book abilities to resurrect the dead. While Wanda puts all of her focus into keeping up the illusion that Vision is still alive, she cannot keep past memories at bay for long. Vision's power to run at superhuman speeds - an ability the synthezoid has not utilized before - is testament to the fact that, try as she might to repress her trauma, Pietro will always be on Wanda's mind.
Tumblr media
It's not clear whether or not Wanda purposefully gives Vision her brother's powers; it could very well be her subconscious attempt to resurrect Pietro in some other form. Maybe it could be her way of grieving him, as she longs for some familiarity. Since Vision is now the closest person in Wanda's life, it is understandable that he may share Pietro's gifts. Whether it's her intent or not, it's still a touching tribute and a potential foreshadowing of her children's powers. In the comics, one of Wanda's sons, Tommy, grows up to become the superhero Speed, who inherits his uncle and father's ability to move incredibly fast.
It's interesting that this power manifests itself in Vision in the same episode Wanda reminisces about Pietro to Geraldine. After the birth of her twin sons, Wanda seemingly cannot help bringing up Quicksilver in a rare moment of vulnerability. While Geraldine brings too much of Wanda's horrible reality into the fantasy by asking if he was killed by Ultron, this scene hints that Wanda's past will keep affecting this elaborate world she's designed for herself. Memories like Pietro's death will continue to haunt her and threaten her control as long as she puts effort into preserving Westview's uncomplicated existence.
Wanda still has a lot of trauma to unpack in the rest of WandaVision, and Vision's newfound ability to run at superhuman speed is a significant turn in her story. Though it's played mostly for laughs – Vision is in a great rush to grab the doctor – it's a reminder that Wanda's past is steadily creeping in to ruin her safe haven and her new family. After all, Wanda's greatest enemy is herself, and displacing Quicksilver's powers onto Vision is only a temporary solution.
Breaking the One Damn Rule (Pt. 6)
Read Part 5
[A/N: Second job has started, almost officially have my promotion at my regular job, applied to grad school and waiting for a response, and wedding planning has me pulling my hair out]
Constant monitoring and bed rest is what the doctor ordered. With the fate of yours and cel mic’s health in Bruce’s hands, and growing boredom, you need a distraction. Nothing like a Netflix marathon to pass the day and quell the cabin fever.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Pietro x Reader
Warnings: Mentions of dying
Words: 1, 648
Previously on BTODR:
“I don’t think she’s going to wake up right now. We picked her up and she was unresponsive. But Wanda looked in her head. She’s okay.” Natasha reassured him as Bruce navigated the transducer over your stomach.
Bruce paused. “You were only expecting one right?”
“What do you mean?” Pietro shot over to the ultrasound image, and sure enough there were now two. He froze.
Bruce examined the image, his jaw tight. “It’s more serious than we originally thought.”
“Results are in Banner. This is in your ballpark.” Tony’s voice entered the room.
The screen pulled up videos of your blood cells and your DNA structure.
“I see.” Bruce cupped his chin.
“See what?” Pietro ran a hand through his hair, tugging at the ends.
“Dr. Cho only saw the one fetus, and I have a sneaking suspicion there isn’t really a second one.” Bruce took a snapshot of the ultrasound and put the equipment away.
“But possibly there was a second one she missed or that one split into two.” Pietro made his way back to your side. He instinctively laced his fingers through yours.
“It’s highly unlikely in both cases.”
“I am a twin—“
“Identical twins tend not to be hereditary. It’s most often spontaneous and that is what you’re suggesting. However, that happens early in the pregnancy. Now, Dr. Cho is competent to catch this. So, something else is going on and you have a feeling as to what is. That’s why you’re deflecting.”
“Bruce!” Natasha frowned at his tone.
“Your cells and genes are mutated and you those on to your child. The cells are abnormal to Y/N’s body, which causes her body to go into overdrive; creating anti-bodies as the mutant cells infect her. I can only speculate when she is under duress, like she was today, the child’s mutant cells are released as a form of protection. Thus, it’s ability lies in biological duplication, because we’re seeing two now.”
“Next time we—“ Natasha thought out.
“There may not be two.” Wanda’s voice strained.
“There may be one or more than two. We don’t know what could happen, but we do know her body isn’t strong enough to handle the surge of mutated cells.” Bruce took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes.
“What do we do?” Pietro squeezed your hand.
“Find a person who can travel back in time, keep this from happening or you two from even meeting.” Bruce chuckled without humor. “Your relationship was doomed from the start. A disaster waiting to happen.”
Pietro forced himself to keep grounded by your side, imagining that you’d tell him not to let it get to him.
“Her family hates her and you’ve signed her death certificate, either by Hydra or your own spawn. Does disobeying orders feel great now?” Bruce couldn’t help himself. Maybe it was his own self-loathing for the monster he had made himself. How he could never really be with anyone without fear of hurting them. It felt a little satisfying to spread the pain.
The problem was that Pietro didn’t feel pain, no, he was seeing red. It was never about disobeying orders. It was about the way the corners of your mouth would twitch as he tried to make light of all the near-death situations he had been in; and you fought the laughter because you had to act mad at him for putting himself in unnecessary danger. But he was such a show off, and a god damn hero that saved the world. You broke so quick.
It was about how even when you fought, mostly about finally making your relationship public or you working to much when he was home, you never broke eye contact and five minutes into the stare down you both broke into fits of laughter or tears, sometimes both. Depending on the day.
The only thing that mattered at the end of the day was having each other to turn to and love, unconditionally. So, no matter how long Pietro would be gone on missions, your love never faltered. And although you worked to the brink of exhaustion, Pietro adored your devotion and passion for the business you had worked so hard to build. He could feel the beams radiating off of you as you spoke about all the crazy events you coordinated, even the challenging ones. You lit up when recounting insane budgets, weird requests, and bridezillas.
It was the stories and you glowing energy that captured Pietro on your first date; and when your face began lighting up the same way when you saw him, there was no turning back.
He would leave the Avengers for you if he had to. Wanda would be okay, she had Vision. You brought a part of him to life that he didn’t even know was dead.
Pietro had been ready to get serious. Marriage serious. But the last mission had put his possible plan of leaving the Avengers—if only temporarily—on hold and then your pregnancy had thrown a wrench into the secrecy of your relationship. Pietro had the ring, he’d had it before cel mic. Now he didn’t want it to seem like he was only proposing for the baby’s sake.
“That’s what I thought.” Bruce tucked the small amount of regret of his words away. Pietro had put you in this situation. His mutated genes were a parasite to your ordinary ones. Pietro shouldn’t even be able to reproduce with his mutation. Bruce couldn’t.
“Seriously? Don’t make this about you. It sucks, yes but move on. It happened. Your mutation process was completely different. We have another problem at hand. Y/N’s life is at risk. Help her, she shouldn’t be a consequence of your jealousy,” Wanda snapped.
Bruce recoiled, realizing the literal and figurative green monster had been rearing its head. “Right, sorry Pietro, that was uncalled for. I’ll get to work on finding a treatment.”
Bruce had let go of his jealousy and had become a trusted friend. He was gentle and explain the science behind was going on with you. Yet, at the same time he could be brutally honest and you were thankful for it.
“What’s the probability?” You shifted on the couch, trying to get comfortable as Bruce hooked up all of your monitors and reinserted your IV. You were tired of sitting in the “infirmary” and had made a decision to relocate to the living room for the day to binge watch on the big screen.
You had sent Pietro out on errands and to get something for your second-in-command because there was an important event to coordinate for an A-list client coming up soon. It was a bit of relief; Pietro’s concern was surpassing bearable levels and you didn’t think that he would calm down until cel mic was here.
“The probability of what?” Bruce produced a vial and hooked it up to the IV tube.
The temporary solution. A bit of Wanda’s mutant blood to mix with your own. The magic in her blood was the universal mutation blood type. Or type “M” as Pietro joked. Bruce and Dr. Cho were hard at work to find a treatment that didn’t require Wanda giving blood every day. It helped, but you remained week and bed ridden. You were only allowed to get up to go to the bathroom—with assistance, annoying and embarrassing—and get one small walk in a day. It was getting old really fast.
“Dying.” Your voice didn’t falter and you held your gaze steady. Bruce took a moment to deliberate. “There’s a small chance, right? Both me and cel mic?”
“Forty-five.” Bruce squatted down next to you, empathetic.
“That is lower than I thought. So, silver lining.”
“And that’s without me finding a treatment for you. I think I’m close.” Bruce patted your arm.
“I believe in you.”
“I will get back to work then. Do you need anything else?” Bruce pushed off of his knees.
“The remote is all.” Bruce pushed the coffee table next to the couch so you had access to the touch pad and your drinks.  “And thank you.”
Bruce nodded and went back to the lab. You found something to watch, but the move from the infirmary to the living room had actually taken a toll on you. It was only a matter of minutes before your eyelids got heavy.
Steve wandered into the living room and stopped at the sight of you passed out on the couch. Your arms curled over your stomach. Protecting it. He reached over you and pulled the blanket down over you.
Steve looked to the TV and recognized the show, he settled unto the end of the couch and watched over you. You were one of them now, so it was his duty as your captain to make sure you were okay.
Two hours later Steve was still there as you stirred and felt a presence. You looked at him through bleary eyes.
“Oh, hey. Am I in the way?” You tried to sit up and make more room on the couch. Steve rushed to stop you, and you gladly slumped back into the couch. What wouldn’t you give for coffee right now. It was the worst being tired all the time.
“Band of Brothers, huh?” Steve motioned to the TV.
“Yeah, my great-grandfather fought in World War II and I used to watch this with him before he passed away a couple years back.”
“Now that makes me feel old.” Steve shook his head.
“Well, you kind of are. I wonder if he ever met you. He was in Europe on the front-line. He probably was a fan, he too liked to punch Nazis.” You grinned.
“Doesn’t everybody?”
“True, give me the opportunity I would gladly do so and make it a tribute to my great-grandfather.”
“Should I recruit you?” Steve joked.
“Pietro would try to kill you. The last thing he wants is me to be anywhere near a Nazi, AKA Hydra.”
“You’re not wrong.”
You slipped into a comfortable silence, that was until your stomach groaned. “Do you know an authentic Mexican place that has killer tamales and delivers?”
