hot take but i actually think there's a fairly significant foreign policy divide between people who remember the obama syria red line failure and people who were too young or not dialed in enough to politics at the time

#tldr there is a point where the only real threat you have left is military action #and unless you're actually ready to take military action you can't let it get to that point #maybe the hotter take is that i think this weighs on joe biden much more than it does the average political commentator #and is a bigger explanation for his policy choices than that he's a zionist and/or racist #look i'll freely admit i think it's paralyzed him and his administration should be doing more than they are #but i also don't know that i've heard anyone with a coherent idea for what to do if israel simply doesn't gaf #we just sit there and say 'well the genocide is ongoing but at least we all feel good about condemning it'?#does anyone really think there's any appetite for a military attack on israel?#and then god forbid there's an iron dome failure or attack from iran after the us stops supplying defensive weaponry #i honestly believe that would hand the election to donald trump #serve it up on a silver platter #and bibi would do everything in his power to engineer a situation like that #because trump and bibi have probably already drawn up the kushner real estate plans for the annexed west bank and gaza #idk just ranting now i guess
