i feel like the reason stories flourished on Instagram and (albeit still very hated on) Twitter for a short time enough to the point people got attached is because there's a big appeal imo to having a built-in function for temporary, disappearing posts. especially with the ability to not have to dig to see that temporary post before it's gone (easy access through someone's icon) because a lot of people want to be able to display things to others but not have it permanently fixed in their feed afterwards

#color.txt #which i am now understanding why snapchat js so successful #even though i fucking hate the ui it has now #but it would be really interesting if tumblr or twitter introduced a temporal deleting post feature that ISN'T story based but adjacent #my concept in my head for that kind of thing would be a little dot or ring by a persons icon if they have a temporary post and if you tap #on their profile itd be under their pinned post as if it was pinned as well (though visually distinct) and itd just disappear after 24 hours #maybe stories are more appealing than disappearing blogging posrs though i might be wrong #i love the idea of disappearing posts myself though #i feel like at some level it's partially why Instagram dm statuses and discord statuses are pretty enjoyed by users
