That dreaded time of year rolled around again, like always. Christmas time, when everyone would head back to their families or friends back home. It's not that you didn't enjoy Christmas, you did, but aside from the handful of friends you barely saw back from deployment you didn't have a lot of people to spend it with.

You mull over it, sitting in the common room on base. The others laugh, patting their backs as they talk about how excited they are to go back home to their families.

Your gaze falls on Simon, who, just like you, seems to be sitting on the couch without talking to anyone. Simon didn't need to talk for you to figure him out anymore. His eyes told you enough, and now they told you that he was deep in thought about something.

After your last conversation, Simon stayed around you much more. Having the confirmation that he didn't need to talk to you to be in your presence made him feel safe. You made him feel safe. Unlike the others, you hadn't once asked about the mask, or why he wore it. You were accepting, and it made him melt just a little bit.

You stare at him for a moment, before standing and sauntering over to him, sitting down without a word. He turns to you, then goes back to the group of people laughing and talking in front of him. It stays quiet like that for a few moments before you decide to speak up.

"You don't seem too jolly," You speak dryly, a hint of amusement in your tone. Despite the sarcasm, Simon knows you worry about him.

"Ain't a jolly season." He grunts back. You've learned that no matter what Simon feels, his voice is the same gruff tone. You look around to make sure nobody's in earshot of your conversation. It'd make Simon uncomfortable, especially with these topics. "Got something going on back home?" You ask softly, leaning back on the couch. He's gotten better at opening up to you, even more so after hearing that you don't want to rush him into talking.

"I'm asking you because I like you. And I like being around you. And I think it'd do you good to have some interaction for Christmas." You say, very bluntly. He knows better than to take offense, though.

"Got nothin' going on back home." He mutters, glancing at you. "That's the problem." Simon says, and a familiar type of sadness sinks into your chest. You also know better than to pry too much, so you choose your words carefully. "No family? Friends?" You ask, and it's relieving for him to hear that you aren't being judgemental, just curious

"Family's.. gone." He mumbles, and you give a curt nod. Seems he's not going to comment on his friends, then. "If it makes you feel any better, I probably won't be seeing anyone either." You say. Normally you wouldn't be so vulnerable, but you know it's the only way to make him feel comfortable. He doesn't say or do anything for a moment, then turns to you. "No friends?"

You shake your head. "Busy with themselves, probably. Last time they didn't have time for me, they probably don't this time." You explain, and Simon's gaze shifts to something softer, more empathetic. "What are you planning on doing, then?" He asks, shifting to sit in a better position. "No idea. Drink, maybe. Read? I have no idea." You answer with a shrug, then continue "What about you?"

"Absolutely no idea." He says, and as you watch him, you get the shittiest idea ever. Or maybe your best. You're still deciding when you blurt it out. "We could spend Christmas together." As soon as you've said it, you feel your cheeks burn with embarrassment. He'll probably decline, and be weirded out.

Simon shifts again, obviously shocked by your request since nobody's ever asked him such a thing. He quickly eyes you, then back to the wall. "Why?" He grunts, suspicious in some way. You clear your throat. "Why not? We both don't have anything to do." You reply.

"Not what I meant, why me? I ain't the best company." He pointed out, and you thought it over for a moment before replying. "If I wanted the best and jolliest company I'd be over there, with them." You say, gesturing to Price and Kyle.

You speak again. "We wouldn't have to talk all day. I know that's not what you want. We could just enjoy Christmas in silence, if you prefer. I'd just like to spend time with you." Everything you say hits him like a brick, and he feels that he shouldn't be so weirded out by your kindness.

"That's fine," You say softly with a small smile, knowing you're getting to him. "And we're not chatting the whole day, either." He grunts, almost like he's listing up rules. "Also totally fine." You nod. He's been so used to spending his nights alone, even the holidays, so he has no idea how he's going to do this.

He objected, "I don't want to ruin your holiday." And you scoff, looking at him. "You wouldn't, really. It's not like I usually do some grand activity. It'd just be cosy. And quiet." You shoot back, and it seems to shut him up for a moment. He's thinking it over, you can tell with the way he's looking at you. He mutters a curse, then clears his throat.

"I won't be buying you presents," He says.

His shoulders sag a bit in acceptance, and he gives a slow nod. "Alright." You smile, sinking even further back into the couch. "Alright," You repeat back to him.

You're not sure, but it almost looks like he's quirking a smile of his own under the mask. You're glad he's more welcoming of you now. And only you.

thoughts: THE DANCING SCENE!!! THE DANCING SCENE!! as I've said before lives rent free in my head. It genuinely looks like Helaena is just having so much fun, in a way that we don't really see her doing otherwise with her limited screen time. It's such a bit moment, but it's the sweetest thing ever. They also have such real potential to me because it would be such an easy AU to write - Rhaenyra literally offered this option years ago. Viserys could have and should have said yes to cleaved their two sides together; political marriages often serve that exact purpose.

And I think that even if they weren't to become romantic in their marriage, it would be a partnership based off of mutual respect and friendship and just as cute to write. It appeals to me so much platonically and romantically! All around good A+ no notes. Very slow burn heavy <3

Either way, I'd like to see that even while working with Silco, reader still continues to help those of Zaun. Whether in different ways than before or not is up to you. Regardless, I'd like for their influence to be an overall positive one.

Maybe they study helstromism & criminal psychology, thus is a freaking wizard of interrogation without needing to resort to violence.

Also, it'd be cool to see their relationship with Jinx.

Romantic eventually. But it's a bit of a slow burn as Silco is slow to realize his feelings and Reader is slower to accept them. While they care for Zaun and all its citizens, they have a very different process than Silco. They'll have to compromise eventually if either of them want to get what they want.

anything else i want you to know about me / my character / my shipping habits: i didn't have these two on my 2024 bingo card but i am so not complaining. i'd be totally happy if they stay platonic and we can just watch them be codependent in that way, but i could also see more developing between them. i'm interested to see how will's moral greyness would play against daryl. and i'm also just brain rotting about them generally being hermits together. it can be difficult for will to kind of settle into a relationship, being as standoffish as he is and generally scared of intimacy, but 1) he is not immune to making dumb horny short-sighted decisions and 2) i think daryl being as loyal and practical and grounded in the moment as he can be would be a really nice balance for will. will can be so ride or die but is also so prone to romanticism and dramatics and getting locked in his thoughts, i think it'd be nice to see daryl help him with that.

i portray Yusuke as gay, so it'd be very. ??? with him i think? because I think Yusuke innately would find a lot of Akari's characteristics to be attractive which usually applies to Joker overall due to just how Yusuke is attracted to ppl, but because of him just not being attracted to women, it'd be kind of flickers of Something but not really full attraction if that makes sense? It's like seeing someone and going 'on GOD if i were bi i'd be down Atrocious rn jesus christ' but instead just being left with that awareness that you WOULD be into someone but you're kind of just. not? while also still finding aspects of their personality attractive? it'd be very funky for him! I could only see that kind of relationship Existing in Any form if it was in a poly queerplatonic kind of relationship with others alongside Yusuke even if Yusuke I think would still definitely be muddled and kinda moreso a backing note vs the others who would be more firmly 'i am a romantic partner' yknow

I literally only started shipping Gary and Castiel like,, two days ago? Maybe three? And I'm not sure if I ship them romantically or platonically, or if their relationship is somewhere in between or outside of those labels. Maybe they're even a queerplatonic relationship! So I don't have a ton of headcanons yet, but here's what I've got so far

1. Gary and Cas share ties

Honestly, the reason I started shipping these two is because I noticed that Gary was wearing a blue striped tie in this last season of LoT that looked suspiciously like one of Castiel's ties; I made a joke about Gary being a fan of Supernatural (since it's a tv show in the arrowverse) and that the reason Gary falls in love with Constantine is literally just because John looks like Cas. Then in the last few days, it suddenly clicked that, like?? Cas and Gary could actually meet? And be friends?

So, anyway, Gary definitely wears Castiel's ties (don't even try to tell me I'm wrong *points at Gary cosplaying as John*), and I think one day Gary and Jack go shopping together to buy Cas a bunch of ties with designs of bees and flowers and things on them as a gift in return.

2. Their siblings connect them

Gary is a necrian, which means he probably had somewhere around 50 siblings while growing up. And Cas, as an angel, had literally thousands. Because they were raised with so many siblings, both Gary and Cas are used to their surroundings being really loud and stimulated. They barely ever had time to themselves and aren't quite sure how to exist comfortably when they're not in the presence of others. They're used to there always being at least one sibling at their side, and they're used to being around constant bickering and chattering and "human" contact.

And as great as their human families are, sometimes not being able to be near their "birth" families in the conditions they're used to can be pretty lonely. Sometimes things just feel too... far away. Things feel cold and empty and way too quiet for comfort, and that's when Gary and Cas meet up, go out in public where they're surrounded by other people, and talk about the things they miss and things they loved about their past families and the human ones they have now.

3. Teaching each other their native languages

I don't have much to say about this one, I just think it'd be adorable if Cas taught Gary how to speak in Enochian and if Gary taught Cas alien languages in return. Neither of them get to speak in their native tongues very often, after all, so they deserve to give each other that chance. Honestly, I think Gary would be really interested in learning how Heaven and the culture of angels work (like from a scientific and a religious standpoint), and Cas would feel the same way about learning about the alien worlds and cultures Gary knows about.

4. They're a slow-burn

Whether AlienAngel is a romantic or non-romantic ship, I do think Gary and Castiel would have to get used to each other at first. Well, Cas more than Gary. Cas would probably be annoyed with Gary for being so incompetent and silly, but similar to how Shaggy and Scooby grew on Cas in Scoobynatural, Gary would grow on Cas, too. I think somewhere along the way, even before realizing how much they have in common as non-humans trying to fit themselves into human spaces, Cas would realize that Gary acts the way he does because he wants to feel loved, and wants to put good into the world by making others feel loved, too. This would soften Castiel's perception of Gary, and is the first step to them developing a connection.
