Prince Tanguish came to me in a dream (daydreaming at work while severely bored). I don’t know much of Royalty and all that, but I see Tanguish as something similar to an advisor to Tango? Within his council methinks. With Welsknight as Tango’s guardian. And Tanguish, instead of stealing, is constantly sneaking out of the castle (Tango makes fun of him for it and Welsknight hated him for it cuz he’d have to go looking for him if he stayed out too late, before Helsknight was appointed his guard at least). Or maybe he still steals, but it’s just small trinkets he sees? Stuff he can’t find in the castle. (Those homemade muffins were really to die for)

Helsknight didn’t want to become a personal guard, but wouldn’t deny the opportunity to annoy the hell out of Welsknight daily. I can also see Helsknight being acknowledged by the royal family by him helping Tango. Like Tango followed Tanguish when he was sneaking out, got hurt (fell when climbing down the castle walls?), and Tanguish ran into Helsknight first while looking for help [Of course Wels wouldn’t be there]. He’s a bit bristly at the beginning (the little dialogue at the beginning was one of the first things I thought of lmao) but he warms up eventually.

Anyways,, is making an art of an au of an au weird? It’s certainly was weird to type that sentence!

I hate being gullible so much because people often think it's funny to fuck with you just because you'll believe it every time. There's been so many times when people who know I'm gullible would purposefully say incorrect facts or make absurd jokes just to see me believe them and laugh in my face. I get it, it's amusing to see me believe the most asinine statements ever, but please at least try to see how this is incredibly degrading from my perspective. My gullibleness symbolises my trust in you and your words, and it genuinely hurts when you make fun of that. And yes, it is "just a joke" but it's not about the joke itself, it's about what that joke represents.

This especially pisses me off when people point out how gullible I am and it's like, I get it I believe in every absurd statement that you throw at me now please leave me the fuck alone. I'm not a zoo animal for you to jeer at, I'm a human being with thoughts and emotions and all I want is for you to understand that stating increasingly absurd facts just to laugh at me when I believe it is humiliating to me.

currently trying to think if I remember any situations in Jin Yong wuxia where a family preferred sons over daughters (especially as like, a socially mandated thing) and coming up short.

Like I think there are plenty of situations where powerful men/families/sects only have one child and that child is a daughter. And this is neither weird, highly remarked upon, or considered odd in any way. Nor is anyone feeling pressed to come up with a son in the future.

Ren Yingying from XAJH, Yue Lingshan from XAJH, Huang Rong from LOCH, Guo Fu (from ROCH) for a good portion of her life (16 years of it, also Guo Fu wasn't displaced bc one of the twins was a boy, NOR were her parents trying to have more children on purpose), Yang Guo and XLN's daughter from ROCH/HSDS, Gongsun Lu'e from ROCH, etc.

Also their status range from like 'extremely important and visible family in the jianghu' to 'actually not all that well known' so it's not just a "well our family is powerful so who gives a fuck" kind of situation.

Like these are male dominated books, there are more men than there are women in Jin Yong's books (there are really cool women in his books though), but there's almost none 'oh no how will a girl inherit!' left beef. The girl will learn martial arts, like it's hard?

I think this is also relatively true of Gu Long books too, so at some points I'm left ??? at the discourse re: inheritance and gender in MDZS fandom bc I don't think it's actively stated anywhere that women aren't supposed to inherit? Or aren't allowed? or are less capable? or that there's a strong societal prejudice against it? Just. It's a danmei so most of these positions are occupied by men. Like, there are maybe five whole women and even less among the juniors. Who and how and why will they inherit if they don't exist.

i think it fucks immensely that bk moon went out of his way to 1) establish rakiel wished to live a long life and eventually pass away of old age, 2) have him very briefly envy an immortal being only to be told very clearly to be careful what he wishes for by that very same person because living forever isn't all it's cracked up to be, 3) make the main antagonist be another immortal being who is so desperate to die he's willing to destroy the universe just to finally rest and 4) have said antagonist psychologically torture rakiel with the threat of making him live for a thousand years as everyone he loves and knows eventually grows old and dies and becomes nothing but forgotten memories.

only to then end the novel by making rakiel also immortal

like. god. it's so fucking good i love it. i'm not being sarcastic i genuinely think it fucks and it's one of the best ways bk moon could've wrapped up the plot.

it's a happy ending by all means but it has consequences and through the entire novel we've been shown and told over and over again just how heavy the consequences are and/or will be on rakiel.

he got his happy ending but it was at a price and by the last time we see him he's only just starting to pay for it.

y’all i watched the greatest rivalries dvd and BEST $10 ever spent. seriously. i want to sum up my thoughts and observations but honestly i need to watch it again to remember what i found particularly interesting and bits of information that helped clarify the unmaking of their relationship as well. it was a great interview and im so glad they were able to sit down TOGETHER and TALK. if i don’t procrastinate this, ill probably make a post about it this week if anyone’s interested.

thinking about it! I’m not sure yet- I’m gonna keep looking into it and also figuring if it’s something Im able to give like. space and meaning to in the story. Not sure if she was hatched blind or if she lost her sight sometime when she was a kid- I’m trying to figure if the assassin group would want to take her if she was blind, or if she ‘wasn’t worth it’ or something. That also might lend to her character’s desperate need to prove herself and live to a certain standard. Maybe especially if she started losing her sight once she was already inducted.

because I was thinking- I wanted to give her some sort of magical version of her eyebuds in the AU (which would also explain why her eyes are blue). But I didn’t want to give her any kind of superhuman abilities with them? because I wanted her to still fit within the physics of the world. anyway. Idk if this makes sense. So I figured instead of superhuman magic eyes, her eyebuds are just magic that gives her the ability to see. Also they make her eyes blue. Again! Idk if I’m going with it but it’s an idea I’ve been playing with.

Also just such a small thing but like. In the F!Lumera FBs when Henriette and Ashe are waiting on backup from Alfonse, and Alfonse is the only one she mentions by name. Like yeah I could be reading into that, maybe he's on his own, maybe it's just shorthand like "Eh they come in twos no need to mention them both it's unspoken/expected that if Alfonse is here, Sharena is close behind him" like. Idk idk that barely tracks for me actually cause personally unless if I'm speaking about a specific sister, I'm always saying "my sisters" or saying both of their names. And esp before getting their own places, the two of them v much felt like a set.

So finally after literal weeks I've finished royal AU Cole and Jay! (The fic in question: All That We Can Give) Seriously everything on this planet was trying to stop me from getting these two dorks done. But now they're here!

I really wanted to make Cole's outfit super cool and interesting to look at but honestly I got really tired so I did my best with the energy I had. I still really like the way his cape and sleeves came out and his boots are honestly really doing it for me! The colors of his outfit were a nigh mare though! oh my god it literally took for ever to even get something I KINDA liked. I'm probably going to draw him again in the dance scene with Zane and so I'll probably up the antics on his outfit then (it's in the fic if yo want to know)

As for Jay I don't have much to say about him other than this is my first time drawing him and I wanted top hat and top hat is what we got. Honestly I don't think he really keeps up with fashion trends very well so he's been wearing the same kind of suit for years because why fix what aint broke is his motto! As for colors I went pretty basic with electric blue for his eyes (get it) and stuck with blues and greys (kinda like a storm) and some orange for some fun contrast!

Anyway in the fic they're pretty close since they're basically unrelated cousins (everyone's got 'em) with Jay's father being the grand duke. They went to the same boarding school and bonded while there (Cole went for dance and I like to think Jay went for literature/writing) Honestly I love these dorks, they both fall firmly in what I like to call the DumbSmart category of characters and I love that for them!

In conclusion I'm so happy to be back at my drawing tablet T-T
