So. You once believed tumblr to be your safe space, your archive, your goldmine. Instead, thanks to "unforseen" circumstances (fuck you dorna), you now fear for the safety and integrity of your blog and you want to know if there's a quick way to download a lot of posts without having to do it manually (I spent half an hour yesterday doing it. Do not recommend)
Fret not my child, and welcome to
How to save the posts under a whole tag in five easy steps!
Needed preface: while this method works great for images, videos, and gifs, the same thing cannot be said for text post, which will be saved in unreadable html. I mean, you can always feed the file to a compiler, I guess. Or painstakingly copy paste everything on word. Maybe it could work on ao3 too, actually, I should check.
ANYWAYS.
Step 1: go here, and download the zip file. Once you've done it, extract it, open it, and run the program, that inside the folder will look like
this. (the one in the centre. so that we're all on the same page)
Step 2: once you've done it, you'll run to me saying "cate anitalianfrie, this graphic interface looks like a relic from the nineties!" to which I'll answer, yes, but it works and that's all that matters. Then, you'll open the settings (gear on the botton right of the page) , go to the page named "blog" and where you see the option "tags" put the tag you want to download the content from.
(it's located in the bottom right section of the page)
the space will be blank. put the tag without the "#", and with the spaces.
if you want to download from more than one tag at a time, you can! just beware that it's not an intersection of the two tags (aka: not downloading the post that have both tags) but a union (aka: WILL download posts with one, the other or both tags). if that's still fine by you, put a "," between a tag and the other (ex: "my gif, cate.txt").
SAVE BEFORE CLOSING THE SETTINGS
Step 3(optional): the program automatically saves in the folder blog inside the folder your program is in. if you wish to change this, go to the "general" page of the setting. at the top, you'll see this:
go to browse and select the floder you want to put your posts in. (ps. obviously your download location will be different than mine. i've already changed it. the standard would have been C:\User\your_username\wherever_you_extracted_the_zip\Blogs)
SAVE BEFORE CLOSING THE SETTINGS
Step 4: past the link of your blog as https://www.your_blog_name.tumblr.com or https://www.tumblr.com/your_blog_name (ex: https://www.anitalianfrie.tumblr.com, https://www.tumblr.com/anitalianfrie) in the little space down on the left,
and press "add blog" on its right
Step 5: click two times on the blog (it now should be at the top of the page) and click "download"
And voilà you're all set! Wait for the machine to finish the crawl and enjoy your newly downloaded content

So Cate is a member of this Facebook group for autistic women looking for advice from other autistic women, and just so you know what we're getting into here, it's historically been a source of some truly awful advice for her specifically e.g. that she should put up with her ex's cheating and emotional abuse and that she was actually taking financial advantage of him if she couldn't afford to move out on her own (???). Anyway, she showed me this thread the other day that fully broke my brain to the point where I'm still thinking about it two days later. A user relayed that there was a man who lived in her apartment complex and who happened to take the same bus route as her. This man would sometimes make an attempt at friendly conversation when he saw her, and she wanted advice on what this meant, and how she should deal with it. At no point in her post did she say she was made to feel particularly uncomfortable by this man, or indicate that he had acted inappropriately. By any reasonable analysis you might say that he was acting neighbourly, especially seeing as he is in fact her neighbour. The top response to her question which had accumulated dozens of likes and positive reactions instead offered this assessment and advice "he's dangerous, he's stalking you, you need to be carrying a knife at all times, here is a list of good necklace knives, also google him, find out where he works, find out who his parents are, call his parents, call his boss, call the landlord, check to see if he's on the sex offender registry, also you should call the police, you need to carry pepper spray, but you should definitely call the police, this is unacceptable." Many other commentators were in agreement with this (insane) assessment, and those who countered that poster with "it sounds like he's being friendly" or "maybe he's lonely and trying to make a friend" were shouted down and accused of wanting to get the OP raped or murdered because she is especially vulnerable as an autistic person. Reading some of the comments truly broke my brain.
The proliferation and explosion of True Crime into the fore of popular culture has really broken a lot of people's brains. I think that the way True Crime, as a genre, presents its subject matter, i.e. with an obsessive voyeurism and erotic charge, engenders a certain reactionary paranoia in the people who heavily consume it. They start believing that every interaction with a stranger is potentially deadly, that there are Dahmers and Bundys lurking everywhere. It's always a certain sort of person whose brain is liable to break this way too. You can't really define them as a group, it's like defining pornography, you know it when you see it. Anyway, clicking through to that top responder's profile and seeing the Handmaid's Tale profile picture and the cover photo showing off a shelf of YA novels was enough to confirm that she was indeed that sort of person.

stars and sand and leaves, pt I
also on ao3 // part II // part III
Nancy never knew women were an option.
It's always been boys, always been men, even when her eyes lingered on Phoebe Cates while watching Fast Times.
It was never a possibility, being with a woman. It never even occurred to her that she would want to be with a woman.
But Robin fucking Buckley is meandering around her bedroom while Nancy rummages through her closet, humming to herself, and Nancy can’t stop smiling.
Steve is outside in the hallway, probably still sulking, but Nancy can’t bring herself to care.
“God, Nance,” Robin groans as she takes the clothes from her. “I’m gonna look ridiculous.”
“Watch it,” Nancy says. “These are my clothes.”
“Yes,” Robin says, looking at her with wide eyes. (God, her eyes. Nancy could daydream about them. Whole universes behind them.) “And I’m sure you look beautiful in them. But I’m not a blouse and skirts kind of girl.”
Nancy rolls her eyes, turning away so Robin can’t see her face flush with colour.
“You are today. Get changed so I can do your hair.”
Robin groans again.
Nancy kneels on the ground, pushing aside some fallen clothes that she hasn’t worn in ages to find her shoes. There are two pairs of sneakers, mud-stained and faded, and next to them is a pair of church heels.
Nancy grabs them and stands, turning and opening her mouth to ask Robin what size shoe she wears, but her voice dies in her throat when her eyes find Robin. She’s facing away from Nancy, her back and legs bare, bending over to tug her pants off from where they’re caught on her ankles. Her underwear is blue.
Nancy exhales sharply and turns away, her heart pounding, and she squeezes her eyes shut, taking a slow breath.
“Uh, hey, Nance?”
“Yeah,” she says, looking back at Robin before she can actually think, and Robin is facing her now, an arm across her chest to cover herself, and Robin’s cheeks are red, and Nancy must be matching her because she can hear her own blood rushing.
“I don’t… have a bra.”
Nancy’s chest tightens, and her eyes glance down at Robin’s forearm that’s squishing her breasts against herself without her permission.
“Uhm.”
Her breath catches in her throat. Robin’s skin is almost gold in the sunlight from the window, spotted with freckles and acne and bruises, and Nancy feels fucking sick.
“I might— I might have one that’ll fit you,” she stammers out weakly, turning away and squeezing her eyes shut before she drops the shoes and reaches into her closet again. "Here," she says when she finds one that's a bit small for her, and she holds it out to Robin, who looks at it distastefully, her nose wrinkled a little bit. It's pink, and the tops of the cups have some delicate lace, and there's a bow between the cups, but it should fit her. Nancy shakes it at her.
"Are there wires in it?" Robin asks almost nervously. Nancy glances at it.
"No, it's just fabric."
Robin hesitates, then releases her chest to reach for it, and Nancy thinks maybe they won't have to fight to save the world because it's already ending right now. She looks away sharply as Robin takes the bra, and Robin bursts with a, "Shit, I'm sorry--"
"No, it's, uhm. It's fine. What size-- What size shoes do you wear?"
"Uh, nine." Robin turns around again, struggling to put the bra on, and Nancy lets herself watch Robin's back, the muscles beneath her skin shifting, her arms reaching. She looks so... soft. And Nancy suppresses the urge to touch her. Her back. Her waist. (Her waist. Nancy could cry.) Her chest. Her legs and arms and her hands and her belly and her face and
"Okay," Nancy says lightly, ignoring the way her brain is yelling at her. "You'll need to wear my mom's shoes, I'll get them when we're ready to go."
"God, I'm gonna wear mom shoes."
Nancy laughs in spite of herself.
"It's not the end of the world."
"It could be," Robin argues, her fingers reaching to untwist the clasp of the bra, but she can't reach it. "I might get overwhelmed from the way this is pinching my boobs and I might cry and I am an ugly crier, you have no idea, and then I might give us away because academics don't cry because of bras, and then they're gonna catch onto us and we're not gonna get any information and we won't be able to save the world, and it's all gonna end just because I'm a pussy that can't handle wearing a bra even though it's normal for girls my age to wear them, and-- Jesus fuck, I can't untwist it, oh my god--"
"Can I help?" Nancy asks even though she might be dying because Robin's voice saying pussy is rattling around in her fucking skull, and Robin lets out a, "Yes, please."
Nancy steps up behind her, her eyes tracing the line of her spine, and she reaches with trembling hands to untwist the clasp. Her fingertips brush Robin's skin, and Robin stiffens, her back straightening. Nancy can hear her breath catch, and she realises she's holding her breath as she carefully smooths the straps of the bra, moving them from where they're resting on the edges of Robin's shoulders so they're fitting properly.
"Thanks," Robin says after a moment, and Nancy blinks, realising she's just touching her now, not even the bra straps, just brushing her fingers over her shoulders.
"You have so many freckles," Nancy says absently, unmoving. Robin's head turns a little bit like she's hesitant to look at Nancy.
"Yeah, my mom used to say it looks like I've been playing in mud." Her voice is light, careless, but Nancy's nose wrinkles, and she blinks, snapping out of her trance.
"God, your mom sucks."
Robin giggles.
"Yeah."
"That's so rude. Jesus." She reaches up to touch Robin's shoulder again, brushing over the freckles. They look warm. They look carefully painted, delicate and intentional, and Nancy feels like she's stargazing. (If God is real, He took his time making Robin Buckley.)
"You don't think they look like mud?"
"God, no," Nancy says, her voice too soft. "They’re beautiful, Robin."
"...Oh."
Nancy's face burns. Too honest.
"Uhm. Sorry. You're good now."
She turns away and goes back to her closet, stepping inside and resting her face on a shelf as she listens to Robin get dressed, to the rustling of the fabric and to Robin's quiet muttering.
Nancy finds the box of hair ties and hair clips that's under a fallen blouse, and she turns around when Robin says, "Okay, uhm..."
The blouse is unbuttoned, but it's tucked into the skirt properly, and Nancy pauses, looking Robin up and down. The colours look nice on her, but she's so visibly uncomfortable that it makes Nancy's stomach twist.
"Do you want me to button it for you?"
"Uhm. Yeah."
Nancy nods, taking a breath and setting the box down, stepping closer. Robin puts her hands behind her back, looking at the floor, and Nancy can feel her breath on her face as she carefully reaches to do the first button.
The ruffles around the neck make the fabric heavy, and it falls open even as Nancy does up the second button, exposing Robin's collarbones and the tops of her breasts, and even those are covered in scattered freckles, and Nancy wants to fucking kiss them, to connect the freckles like constellations with her lips--
She bites her bottom lip hard enough that it hurts, trying to stay focused even though she feels almost lightheaded. The air feels tight between them, and Nancy wonders if Robin feels it too.
"Uhm, I have to do your hair," she says softly, trying to keep her voice steady.
"What's wrong with my hair?"
"Nothing, it's just... not professional."
She glances up at Robin's face, suppressing a smile at her visible confusion.
"It looks nice on you," Nancy says as she buttons the blouse. (It does. Always perfectly messy and tousled, and Nancy wants to tousle it more, and she really needs her brain to shut the hell up.) "But you're not you today, you're... an academic."
"...Right."
Nancy looks at her again, reaching for the next button. She's looking at the floor again, looking so sad Nancy wants to hug her.
"That... That came out mean," Nancy says anxiously. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to--"
"It's fine, Nance," Robin says softly, smiling now, her eyes shining. "I know what you mean."
Nancy exhales, looking away from her eyes to finish the blouse, tying the small ribbon into a bow deftly, and she pauses when she's done, staring at the bow and the pearly buttons and the way the soft shade of pink looks against Robin's skin. Robin waits.
"You're really smart, Robin," Nancy says finally, looking into her eyes. Robin blinks in surprise, and her cheeks flush pink, a shade or two darker than the blouse. Her lips twitch into a hesitant smile.
"Thanks."
Robin sits on the edge of Nancy's bed while Nancy rummages through the box of hair accessories. She's petting one of the blankets when Nancy approaches her, looking around the room curiously even though Nancy is pretty sure she knows the room better than Nancy herself at this point, and her eyes shine at Nancy when she steps in front of her.
Nancy's never done anyone's hair except her own and Holly's, but she does her best.
Neither of them says anything while Nancy does her hair, carefully moving the waves of her hair (which is wildly soft in Nancy's opinion; it's honestly unfair. Nancy doesn't want to stop touching it.) and spraying it with spritzes of hairspray to keep them in place. Robin is staring at her the whole time, eyes wide and unblinking like she's studying Nancy's face, and Nancy wills her face not to flush with heat every time their eyes meet.
Nancy is careful not to stab Robin's head with the clip as she pushes it into Robin's hair and presses it down until it clicks.
"There," she says. "Uhm. Are you cool with makeup?"
"Yeah," Robin says, her voice light and soft, and Nancy doesn't think she's ever heard her so quiet. She hesitates, but Robin is almost smiling, her eyes shining.
Nancy does her makeup. She's more careful than she thinks she's ever been in her life, gingerly brushing the blush over Robin's cheeks, moving closer and holding Robin's chin to keep her steady so she brushes eyeshadow over her eyelids and mascara on her lashes, and Nancy pauses as she holds her face, looking at her. She looks like she could be sleeping, face relaxed, eyes closed, and Nancy wants to kiss her.
Nancy wants to slap herself. Because she has a fucking boyfriend, and Robin might not even like girls, and Jesus fucking Christ, what horrible timing to be having a sexuality crisis. All because of Robin Buckley's pretty skin and freckles and because Nancy saw her tits and they won't stop flashing in her mind, and because she keeps hearing Robin's raspy voice say pussy, and Nancy feels like a fucking teenage boy. This is ridiculous.
Nancy goes to get her mom's shoes after she finishes with Robin's makeup, and while she's gone she smacks her head on the wall in her mom's closet a few times, eyes closed, resigned. Robin is still sitting on the bed when she gets back, kicking her feet and looking around again.
She still doesn't say anything, even when Nancy kneels on the ground to help her put the heels on, carefully buckling them and trying not to let her hands shake as Robin hikes the end of the skirt up so it's out of Nancy's way, exposing her ankles and bruised shins. (Nancy wants to kiss the bruises better. She tells herself the shut up.)
Steve is downstairs at the table with Holly when they go downstairs, talking with her quietly as she colours in a colouring book, and when he looks up at Nancy and Robin, his eyes widen.
"Holy shit."
"Steve," Nancy snaps as Holly giggles, and Steve lets out a quick, "Sorry," and then he looks at Holly firmly.
"Don't say that." He looks up at Robin again. She's fidgeting with the collar of the blouse, pulling it away. "You look..."
"Shut up."
"I was gonna say you look good!"
"No, you were not, do not even try to lie to me, Steven, I look ridiculous and you know it."
Nancy lingers in the kitchen as they head outside to Seve's car, bickering like siblings, and Nancy sighs heavily.
"What's wrong?" Holly asks without looking up from her colouring book.
"Nothing, Hol, just tired."
"Why does she think she looks silly?"
"Uh..." Nancy sighs again, leaning against the table next to Holly and watching her colour over her shoulder. She's holding a marker with a vice grip, but she's still managing to colour mostly in the lines. "She doesn't usually wear stuff like that. She dresses really differently from me. So now she's wearing my clothes and she thinks she looks weird in them."
"Why is she wearing your clothes?" Holly asks, looking up at Nancy, who makes a silly face, widening her eyes and leaning down to brush their noses together before she whispers dramatically, "We're going undercover." Holly giggles, her eyes crossed, and Nancy smiles, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
"I think she looks pretty," Holly says, going back to her colouring book.
"I'll tell her."
She comes up behind Holly and hugs her tightly, leaning down to squish her cheek against the top of her head and sighing. Holly lets her. She always lets her.
"I love you," Nancy says after a moment. "You know that?"
"I know," Holly says lightly. "You tell me a lot."
"More than all the stars," Nancy starts dramatically, swaying with Holly in her arms as Holly pauses her colouring.
"And sand and leaves," Holly finishes for her, giggling.
"And don't you forget it," Nancy says, kissing her head again before she steps back and grabs her purse. "Give Mommy a kiss for me."
"Okay."
Steve and Robin are waiting outside the car when she gets outside. Robin is leaning against the car, wincing as her feet shift in the heels.
"Holly said you look pretty, by the way," Nancy says as they're getting in the car, and she watches Robin's face light up.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Robin smiles brightly, happily, and Steve shoots her a look.
"So you'll believe a five-year-old, but you won't believe me?"
"Correct."
Nancy's thing for Robin spins out of control into a full-blown crush while at the prison. Because Robin gets it. She gets Nancy. She knows what it's all like, and because she's so stupidly brave it makes Nancy feel like her body's on backwards. She makes everything on the fly, complaining about her bra and her blouse and getting them exactly what they need in a way that Nancy would never have thought of.
Nancy pushes the crush down, hides it away, locks it up inside her chest to be dealt with later. She focuses on her priorities. On saving the world, saving her friends and her family, and then she can deal with... this.
She can't forget it, though. It's still there. Lingering in her mind, nudging at her every time she looks at Robin, whispering every time she hears Robin's voice. But Nancy ignores it.
-------
The world is saved.
They're all fine, save for some scrapes and bruises and a broken arm or two.
Robin hugged her when it was okay. Nancy thought the world was ending again.
It's been two weeks. Nancy doesn't know what to do with herself, no just about the think with Robin, but just in general. She broke up with Jonathan soon after he got back to Hawkins. She expected it to be this big thing, expected tears and broken voices and shaking hands, but when she said it, "I think we should break up," Jonathan just sighed and said, "Yeah. Probably."
He hugged her when they said goodbye. It was so much easier than she expected. It was fine. He was smiling. She was smiling.
But now...
She hasn't told anyone. She assumes Argyle must know by now, though she suspects Argyle knew all along. She doesn't know who to talk to. Not Jonathan. Not Steve, because weird. Not Robin, because Nancy might spill over herself.
She doesn't really have any friends, she realises.
So she's crying. Her face is tucked into her pillow, and the pillowcase is wet, and her nightlight is glowing golden. (She can't sleep without it. She doesn't think anyone can sleep without a light on anymore.) She's sobbing, probably dehydrated at this point, and her face is wet and sore, and her hair is a mangled mess, but no one is here to see it.
She's trying to catch her breath when her door swings open, and she jumps, sitting up and wiping her face quickly as Mike steps in, looking rumpled in his sweatpants and a t-shirt that's a size too big for him. The front says Megadeth. She assumes he stole it from Eddie.
"Jesus, do you knock?" she exclaims, turning her head to hide her face and wiping her cheeks so hard it stings a little.
"Sorry," Mike says, sounding not even remotely sorry. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," she says. "God."
"Nancy," he says dryly. She looks at him, and he's looking at her intently. His hair is tied up in a messy bun that looks unfairly good for how quickly he must have done it. He sighs and shuts the door behind himself before he comes over to sit on her bed as she rolls her eyes. "What is it?"
"Nothing, Mike."
"Liar."
"God."
He's quiet for a moment, looking at the floor, kicking his feet.
"Nightmares or something else?" he says finally, his voice gentler, and it makes her want to cry all over again.
"Why do you care so much?" she snaps, shifting to sit up, cross-legged, wiping her face again. Her eyelashes feel heavy with tears, and the ends of her sleeves are wet now.
"Because we survived the end of the world like three times," he says sassily. "Sorry I get worried when I hear my big sister crying through the wall."
"I'll cry quieter."
"Or you can cry with me here," he says, still looking at the floor. "You don't have to talk about... whatever it is. But just... Jesus, Nance, you're not completely alone."
She exhales shakily, looking at him in the dim light of her nightlight. He looks so much older now, even older than he did a few weeks ago. Sharper. More tired. He even sounds older. Like he's lived five lives in his fifteen years.
"Something else," she says. "It was... something else."
"...You wanna talk about it?"
She hesitates, knotting her fingers.
"No secrets, right?"
He scoffs, his lips twitching into a smile.
"Yeah."
She takes a slow, deep breath, hesitating again.
"I, uhm." She swallows. "You know Robin?" Her voice cracks at her name, and she winces.
"Yeah, 'course. What about her?"
"Uhm." Nancy takes another breath, and her hands are shaking now. She feels a little lightheaded. Mike looks at her.
"Is she okay?" he asks, worry audible in his voice, and she nods.
"Yeah, no, she's-- she's fine, I just... Uhm."
"...What is it?"
"I have a crush on her."
The words come out too quickly, and she's terrified that he can't understand her, and almost more terrified that he can, and she looks up at him again.
He's staring at her, his eyes wider, wider than she's ever seen, and her stomach twists, and she might throw up, and her heart might stop beating, and she didn't realise until this moment how desperately she wants Mike to love her, how desperately she wants her little brother to not hate her, and--
Mike hugs her. His gangly arms wrap around her neck tightly, pulling her into an embrace that's a little awkward because he's sitting sideways and they're leaning over their legs, but she bursts into tears, sobbing loudly into his neck as she hugs him back.
And her little brother is whispering to her, murmuring quietly.
It's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay, it's okay.
And it's so much nicer to cry into Mike's boney shoulder than into her pillow. She never knew.
His hand is running over her head, over her hair, and she's shaking, so he pulls her closer, tugging her to rest against his side as she sobs. She lets him.
She doesn't know how long she cries, but Mike just lets her. He's rocking, swaying back and forth with her in his arms, and she feels small again, letting Mike murmur to her, whisper that it's okay, even though Nancy knows it isn't.
When she stops crying, Mike pulls away to lift the hem of his shirt, wrapping it around his fingers and wiping her face as she breathes.
"It's okay," he says again when he finishes, and she shakes her head.
"It's not okay, Mike," she says, and he tuts at her. "It's not. I know."
"Why isn't it okay?" he asks like he's personally offended, and she looks down.
"I just..."
"Because of Jonathan?"
"No, I... I broke up with Jonathan."
"Then why?"
"Just--" She huffs, tossing a hand. They're facing each other now, their knees touching. "Dad..."
"Has shit to say about everything," Mike says, sneering. "Who cares what he says? He doesn't even know us."
Nancy blinks, startled by the sharpness of his voice, by how angry he sounds. Her lip trembles.
"She's my friend," Nancy says. "I don't wanna ruin everything."
"I know," Mike says, shrugging weakly, and he looks so resigned and tired that Nancy believes him. She looks into his eyes, trying to find whatever it is that's there.
"Mike," she says.
He looks away, blinking, and his eyes are suddenly glistening with unshed tears, and he swallows.
"I, uhm. I broke up with El."
She blinks in surprise again, staring for a moment before she smacks his arm.
"Hey."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
He shrugs, rubbing his arm where she smacked him.
"Just... I, uhm."
"Mike," she says softer.
"No secrets," he says almost resolutely, nodding to himself, and he looks up into her eyes, and he suddenly looks nothing like the boy that was just holding and rocking her, whispering to her, taking care of her. He looks small. Young. Scared. "Me too."
"You too... what?" she says, confused.
"I-- Me-- I'm--"
He cuts off, and she inhales deeply, nodding when he copies her, and they exhale at each other, quiet for a moment.
"I'm the same," he says finally, his voice quiet. "We're the same."
"We're... the same," Nancy repeats.
Mike huffs, his shoulders dropping, and for a moment he's just a dramatic teenager again, annoyed.
"I..." He exhales shakily, looking at the bed between them. "I like... boys."
Her eyes widen, and his eyes cut up to her, and then understands the sudden, catapulting hug he gave her earlier, because that's all she can think to do now. She knocks him onto his back, arms tight around his neck, and he hugs her back, letting out an oof as they roll over on her bed.
"Holy shit," she says. "Holy shit, holy shit."
He laughs, giggling like a little kid, and even as he laughs she can hear that his eyes are filled with tears.
"Oh my god," she says, and he says it back.
She sits up, hovering over him, staring with wide eyes.
"...Will?"
His face turns red, and he swats at her, sitting up as she laughs.
"Shut up," he whines, pushing at her.
"Are you serious?" she asks, laughing, her eyes tear-filled.
He groans loudly, rolling and shoving his face into a pile of blankets, the groan becoming muffled.
"Tell me," she says, sitting cross-legged.
"Only if you tell me about Robin," he says.
"Deal."
He sighs heavily and sits up, reaching for one of the stuffed animals that's on the bed, and he rolls to lay on his back, hugging the bear to himself as he looks up at the ceiling.
"He's just... I don't know. Is it cliche if I say he's everything?"
Nancy scoffs, leaning against the headboard of her bed.
"Yeah," she says. "But it makes sense." He's quiet, so she takes initiative. "...How long have you liked him?"
He sighs.
"I think I always have," he says softly. "Just didn't know it."
"What about El?"
"I don't know," he says. "I think... I think I do love her. Just not... how I'm supposed to. And I just thought I did because I thought I was supposed to. Like... It makes sense that I would like her. And she thought she liked me too, and so we just went for it, but it didn't last because neither of us knew what we were doing."
"You don't think she really liked you?" Nancy asks, confused.
"Not... like that. She didn't even know what a friend was when we met, of course she didn't know how to be in a relationship," Mike says. "And I didn't either because I was a stupid twelve-year-old, and I just... I don't know. I think I was, like... avoiding my feelings. Everything happened with Will and I had no idea what was happening or what I was feeling or..."
"Jesus," Nancy says softly.
"Yeah," Mike says. "It was a lot. Still is sometimes."
She pauses before she reaches a leg out and kicks him.
"What do you like about Will?"
He suppresses a smile.
"Everything?"
"Even the bowl cut?"
"Shut up," he says, reaching out to hit her. "He's cute. And you can't say anything, what about Jonathan's hair? Christ."
"Fair," she cedes. "Everything isn't an answer, I need specifics, Mike."
He groans, lifting the bear and holding it to his face for a moment before he drops it.
"He's kind," he says finally. "Just... really fucking kind. He always has been. 'S like he's got this... heart of fuckin' gold even though the world's never been anything but cruel to him."
Nancy listens intently. He spends too much time with Eddie.
"Even when he's angry he's still so... I don't know. And he's funny." He's smiling now, absently, up at the ceiling. "He's like... sarcastic. In the best way."
"Sarcastic," she repeats.
"And sassy." He's grinning now. "He's witty. He makes me laugh."
She smiles, watching him. It's like five lives melt away from him. He's fifteen. Crushing on his best friend. And it's so painfully normal that Nancy aches.
"And he's so good at art," Mike gushes. "He gave me this-- this painting while we were in California, and he said it was, like, a commission from El at the time but he told me a little while ago that he lied, that-- that he just did it himself, and it just..." He squirms, smiling so brightly his eyes squeeze shut, and he's squeezing the life out of the bear.
"What's the painting?"
"It's, uhm. Us. Will and me. And Dustin and Lucas. We're fighting a dragon, as our D&D characters. And I have a shield, and it has this... heart. On it."
"...Is he..."
"Shut up. I don't know."
"Okay. Where's the painting."
"My wall. He saw it last time he came over and he couldn't stop smiling, it was so fucking cute."
"What else?"
"God, his smile. He just... He's like the fucking sun. I could stare at him for hours."
"You shouldn't stare at the sun--"
"Shut up, you know what I mean."
"I know," she snickers.
Mike is still staring at the ceiling, his eyes shining, almost glazed over, and he’s smiling absently.
“He’s so beautiful,” he whispers.
It’s precious.
Her heart swells a little bit.
She reaches a leg out and pokes his side with her foot.
“You’re in lo-o-ove…” she teases. He blinks hard like he’s snapping out of a daydream, and he turns red, throwing the bear at her face as she laughs.
“Shut up.”
“How’d you realise you like him?”
He groans and takes the bear back, hiding his face for a moment.
“It’s so stupid.”
“Oh my god, tell me,” she says excitedly.
“Okay, so.” He sighs, setting the bear up so it’s sitting on his chest, and he plays with the arms, making it dance. “Hellfire had a meeting. Not for, like, a campaign, just so Will could meet Eddie and the others. And it was really fun, they all loved him, obviously, he’s…” He hesitates, smiling softly, and for a second it looks like he’s going to cry. “And afterwards Eddie kind of pulled me aside and looked at me, like, really intently, and he just said, ‘It’s okay,’ and I had no idea what he was talking about.”
Nancy looks at him, listening like her life depends on it.
"And I told him that," Mike continues. "That I had no idea what he was talking about, and I was so confused, and he just said... 'You like Will. It's cool. It's okay,' you know? And I just..." He exhales, blinking at the ceiling. "God, I just cried. And Eddie just... held me."
"He's really nice, isn't he?" Nancy says softly. Mike nods.
"I ran to catch up with Will and Dustin and Lucas, and uhm, They could tell something was up, and I just... had to pretend everything was... Fine. The same. Like my whole world hadn't just flipped inside out. And they asked if I was okay and I said yeah, and then... Dustin and Lucas let it go. And Will..." He suppresses a smile, biting his lip. Nancy leans forward, wide-eyed.
"Did he fucking kiss you?"
"God, no," he says, swatting at her face. "I would have told you already if he did."
"Okay."
"He just... He asked if I wanted a hug. I said yes. He stopped walking, right there in the middle of the sidewalk, and he just... hugged me. He's... God, his hugs are so nice. You remember what I said about him being the sun?"
"Yeah."
"Imagine hugging the sun," he says dreamily, and she grins, furrowing her brows.
"It doesn't sound... pleasant."
"It's fucking magnificent, Nancy."
She giggles, closing her eyes.
"I've never heard you talk like this," she says lightly after a moment,
"I don't think I've ever talked like this at all," he says.
He sighs.
"Robin," he says abruptly, looking at Nancy. "Tell me about Robin."
Her face flushes with heat, and she lets her head fall back to the headboard as she sighs too.
"Uhm. She's pretty."
"Cut the shit," he says snarkily, and she scoffs. "Tell me."
"Jesus, she's fucking gorgeous," Nancy says. "She's hot as fuck." A laugh bursts out of Mike, and he's cringing, but his eyes are shining with amusement. "And she's fucking brilliant, she's so smart. And funny, and witty, and she's... Adorable. She's clumsy and she always talks way too much, but I love her voice, and I swear I could listen to her for hours. And she's got these freckles, they're everywhere, all over her shoulders and her back, and it's like she's the sky, oh my god."
She swoons, sliding down the headboard and falling to her side as Mike laughs out a, "Holy shit."
"And her smile..." Nancy says, staring at the ceiling. "Beautiful."
"What else?" Mike prompts.
"...She gets it," Nancy says, her voice softening.
"Gets what?"
"Just... She knows what it's like to be a girl," Nancy says adamantly. "No one else gets it, but she... God." She sighs heavily. "Jonathan and I had this fight a while ago. When we were fired from the paper in town."
"Yeah," Mike says, rolling onto his side and listening just as intently as she listened to him.
"I was one of the only girls there," she says. "And I got no fucking respect. They treated me like shit. And Jonathan just... didn't get it. And he kept... trying to say it wasn't that big a deal, that it was worth it to just have a job, and I-- I didn't get that he needed the job, and I get it now, but he just... God, it made me so mad that he just didn't get it." She huffs. "But Robin knows. And I just... Yeah."
"...How'd you know you liked her?" Mike asks after a moment. She suppresses a smile.
"Uhm. We had to go undercover as academics to talk to Creel, right?" she says, and he hums, listening. "So... Her wardrobe is, like, all second-hand men's clothes and shit she takes from Steve, so she needed to wear some my clothes, and..."
"Oh my god," Mike says, and she grins. "Do not tell me her wearing your skirt turned you on."
"It wasn't the skirt, it was her tits."
"Ew," he yells, hitting her with the bear, and she shushes him almost as loud, snatching the bear and hitting him in the face as he gags obnoxiously.
"I'm kidding," she says, still hitting him and laughing. "Jesus, you're dramatic."
"You're gross."
"The female form is beautiful, Michael."
He gags again.
"Anyway," she says, hitting him one more time before she lets him take the bear and hold it again. "It wasn't actually her tits, it was just... I don't know. I think I've always liked women and I just didn't let myself think about it. And then she was in my room and the sun was on her and I could see all her freckles and I needed to help her fix her bra and I just... couldn't not think about it. You know?"
"Yeah," Mike says. "That was it after Eddie told me. Like it just... suddenly louder."
"Yeah," Nancy says. "Exactly. And she was looking at me with those eyes, and I just..." She sighs. "Fell. And then tried to ignore it because I was still with Jonathan and the world was on the brink of collapse and I had priorities."
Mike is quiet.
"Did you break up with El because of Will?" Nancy asks after a moment.
"No," he says. "I broke up with El because we just... didn't work. We both knew it. It was kind of over when we met in California. She pointed out that I... I never said 'I love you' to her. I never signed my letters with 'love' and I just... I don't know. I realised after everything with Eddie that I, uhm. I always had to hold back from telling Will I love him. Because I thought it was weird, even though I thought it was purely platonic. And then I just... I don't know. It clicked. That I wanted Will the way I thought I wanted El."
"Wow," Nancy says softly.
"Did you break up with Jonathan because of Robin?"
"I don't know. Maybe a little. It was also just... I don't know. We weren't like we used to be. We weren't talking as much, and I just felt frustrated every time I thought about him, and every time I brought him up people would... ask if we were okay. Just because of how I seemed. And I just thought maybe it was time. Before we went to college. And then he told me he'd applied to some community college in California and he was accepted and I said he should go for it. If it would make him happy." She pauses. "Think that's why I did it. ...I wanted us to be happy."
Mike pauses.
"Are you?"
"...Am I?"
"Are you happy?"
She takes a deep breath, pausing.
"Sometimes," she says, and then she rolls her head to look at him. His hair is falling from the bun, into his face. "It's only been two weeks."
"I'll give you two more, then I'll ask again."
"Okay," she says.
They both sigh again. Nancy's cheeks feel too dry, tight from the tears that have dried on her skin. Mike moves a little closer, rolling onto his back and looking up at the ceiling. His legs are hanging off the side of the bed. She forgets how tall he's gotten sometimes.
"Are you gonna tell her?" Mike asks softly.
"God," she breathes. "I don't know."
"I think you should," he says.
"Why?"
He shrugs. He's playing with the bear's arms again, flapping them up and down.
"What's the worst that could happen?" he asks quietly, but it's half-hearted like he already knows the answer.
"I could lose a friend."
He hums quietly.
"That's scary," he whispers.
"Yeah."
He rolls closer, curling up next to her, and she lifts an arm to slide it across his shoulders. It happens again. He shrinks. He's too good at that, she thinks. Switching between being the little boy he was before all of it started and the boy that's lived five lifetimes too soon. The boy whose eyes shine like a child that's scared to cross the street alone and the boy that holds his older sister and whispers that it's all okay.
She lets him shrink down now, listens to him exhale as she presses a kiss to the top of his head.
"I love you, you know," she says softly.
"I know," he whispers.
"More than all the stars and sand and leaves." He's smiling, his eyes closed. "So much, Mikey."
She hasn't called him that since they were little. His smile falters a little bit, and his lip quivers, and she whispers.
"It's okay."

Cate darling do you have a top ten-ish smallville moments to You?
so I wrote down all the moments that were dear to me off the top of my head, and then I tried to rank them and that was impossibly hard, because they’re like apples and oranges!! so what I present to you is a series of top moments, sorted by relationship:
top 6 Lois and Clark moments:
the whoooole episode of “Committed”—Lois listening to her own drunk voicemail saying Clark Kent is the sweetest guy she’s ever known??—but especially the climax with the lie detector test: “Underneath it all, do you love this man? Do you love him? Tell the truth, do you love him?” And she answers “Yes”!!!!!!! talk about the revelation of secrets!!!!
when Clark has just gotten back from his self-imposed exile from humanity in “Metallo” and is at the Planet and Lois tells him “I helped the Blur stop a homicidal maniac” and Clark answers, “You know, I’d love to hear about it.” and then she comes over to excitedly perch on the end of his desk and tell him the whole thing and he’s just grinning at her and listening in total delight at who she is as a person!!!
the whole ridiculous scheme in “Hydro” where Clark dresses up as Green Arrow to convince Lois that Ollie isn’t Green Arrow and Lois makes out with him, and then at the end of the day Chloe’s like “tell him” and Lois says “Green Arrow is a phenomenal kisser, better than my boyfriend” and Clark, who just found out that Lana is having Lex’s child, is like “okay maybe today isn’t a total loss”
when Lois pulls the blue kryptonite out of him and then runs away and hides when he wakes up. I know this struck you and it really struck me!! the theme song for the whole show goes “somebody save me”, and Lois does it here!! she saves him exactly the way he always saves everyone else!!! and it goes to show that she understands why he doesn’t do everything in the light, why he doesn’t stick around to be thanked, why he doesn’t take credit. she’s his equal in this very specific way!!
weirdly I really like the bit in “Echo” where Clark can hear thoughts and hears Lois thinking “Why’d you have to get attached? They always leave.” because Lois really does have such a capable, brash exterior that the moments where her vulnerabilities show are so special and so important, and this instance of it just cuts to the heart so completely.
the glimpse into the future in “Homecoming”!!!!! it’s everything that’s great about Superman.
top 4 Clark and Lex moments (admitting that a lot of the very early seasons have blurred into a mush in my brain):
this was already in my phone note draft before I saw you reblog it, but the scene in “Nemesis” where they’re fighting in the tunnels and Clark thinks Lex is storming off leaving him to die, but he actually went to go get a crowbar!! and Clark tells his mom he saw a glimpse of his friend!!! this is another “somebody save me” moment. and I think the episode treads the line really well between admitting that Lex’s behavior over the years has been shady, but that the shades of gray ultimately come from not having anything to compare to! so his love for Clark is flawed but it’s real!! it’s the truest love he’s ever known! my favorite thing about this relationship is how until the last moment, Lex never fully turns his back on Clark, he never stops wanting them to be friends again.
when Lex has just gotten back from the desert island (lol) in “Phoenix” and goes to the farm and the boys hug! Clark is so happy to see his friend alive!! Lex has somewhere to go where he is uncomplicatedly welcomed!
the “Lexmas” fantasy of Clark being an uncle to Lex’s son and Jonathan telling Lex he couldn’t be any prouder of him. I weep
the episode where Lex thinks Clark is his long-lost half-brother for a hot second. I maintain this delusion should have persisted for two or three seasons
top 7 Lex and Lana moments (it had to be done):
the second timeline of “Reckoning” where Clark has decided not to tell Lana the truth about who he is and Lana flees to the mansion and asks Lex in an agonized voice, “I don’t understand. Why would you lie to someone you love?” and Lex says, like he’s confessing, “I wouldn’t.” this is such a perfect scene to me, in how it shows us that what’s been drawing Lex and Lana together this whole time is their similarities!! the parallels between them! Clark claims to love the one and hate the other but they are both on the outside dying to be let in because they both have been longing for love and belonging since they were kids. it’s just such a fascinating foundation for their relationship.
directly related, the scene in “Vessel” where Lex finds out he has superpowers and immediately, right away, goes straight to Lana and shoots himself in front of her so she knows what he’s become. the irony of this is so delicious. neither of them has a clue at this point, but the secret that Clark kept from both of them, the secret that brought them together, is the very same secret that Lex tells her right away, not for a scheme or to manipulate her, for no other reason than that he wants to share it with her. it makes me insane. this is the lexana dynamic I love.
in “Onyx” when Lex goes to Lana’s apartment to apologize for whatever his evil twin did, and she says his other half “expressed certain desires” and he says “it wasn’t me,” and she shoots back “are you sure?” and then he gives the completely deranged response: “Whatever my feelings are, I would never do anything to jeopardize our friendship.” nobody asked him to bring feelings into this!! it’s like Lana said “your evil twin said he wanted to have sex with me” and Lex answered “wasn’t me, bc I love you and the purity of that love means I would never ever act on it.” I love when he’s honorable!
the scene in “Fade” where Lex has been on a business trip and says he’s glad to be home, and Lana says “what’s so special about Smallville?” And he starts naming stuff like “cows, cornfields” and then she grins and says “I missed you too.” and he says “You have no idea.” one of the things that seasons 6&7 seem to forget is that for five seasons, Lex and Lana consistently really enjoy each others company!! they like hanging out! this scene is my favorite instance of that.
the “Lockdown” scene where Lana tells Lex he has to keep talking so he doesn’t pass out and he says “Do you think I’d look better with hair?” and she laughs and says “I’ve never thought about it.” and he says “I have. I’ve thought about a lot of things.” and then later when he’s gotten more delirious and starts telling her about his Lexmas dream of everyone being friends, “And you were there, you were the best part.” this episode is like a fanfiction in the best way.
all the “Lexmas” stuff. Lex’s face when Lana first kisses him so clearly says “oh fuck I’m going straight to hell” so watching him slowly relax into it, start believing that he can have this! that he can be loved and happy! that he can be a good husband and a good father! a good man! aaaahhhhhhh
the second episode of season 7 (and ONLY that episode lol) where Lex was on his repentance shtick and tracks down Lana and is like “I’m here to beg forgiveness. The fact that you framed me for your murder only makes me admire you more. You can kill me if you want. Seriously, shoot me. Also, I love you please come home.” it was such a Moment for Lex and I wish it could have gone somewhere!
Assorted moments:
the pierced hand cruciform fall at the end of s9. dare I say the only time a Smallville finale was thematically coherent and compelling?
Chloe’s litany of inside jokes with herself once she knows Clark’s secret and he doesn’t know she knows. and also just—her whole transformation once she finds out the secret!! she grows up into this unselfish person living life in service of mission all at once!!
the Chloe and Clark kiss heard round the world. it’s a great kiss and they deserve it lol
EDIT: Chloe’s healing powers!!!!

Don't Do call it a comeback.
The Golden Globes - the least respected awards show, but one that the industry loved because of the fawning, star-f*cking Hollywood Foreign Press Association and, hey, who doesn't a party and free flowing drinks - returns after the industry had to put on a time-out because of controversies surrounding their leadership.
While there were some film and television critics who called on press to not write about the event as they didn't feel the HFPA has truly addressed their failings, and celebrities who didn't even comment on their nominations because to do so would seemingly mean that they have forgiven the HFPA, there was still a good bit of star power on hand. And I must say I am pretty happy with the winners.
BEST MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA The Fabelmans
*It's Spielberg so it's a well-made film, but it wasn't extraordinary. As I exited the screening someone ahead of me turned to their friend and said, "Well, not all of his films can be epic.". Spielberg has the hard task of topping himself. Upon reflection though, I appreciate the film more. Yes, I think he should have chosen to either focus on the familial relationship and his parents' marriage (the most interesting part of the film) or focus on a teen chasing his love of filmmaking - honestly, Spielberg's documentary exists so this film needn't cover both. But it's a brave thing for him as a son to examine their parents as mere humans and come to a place of understanding and acceptance of that (in reality it took Spielberg much longer than his film counterpart to come to peace with his parents' failed marriage).
BEST DIRECTOR – MOTION PICTURE Steven Spielberg (The Fablemans)
BEST MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY The Banshees of Inisherin
MORE WINNERS
BEST ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin)
*The award was always Farrell's to lose and while I love he won, I was also pulling for Ralph Fiennes (The Menu). In typical Colin Farrell fashion he gave a wryly funny and heartfelt acceptance speech (which he started out big-upping Ana de Armas for her work in BLONDE), thanking Martin McDonaugh, his cast and his two sons James and Henry.
James is 19 already!
BEST SCREENPLAY – MOTION PICTURE Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin) *McDonagh thank his cast including "new friend Barry Keoghan who almost stole the movie and Kerry, an old friend who did steal the movie."
McDonagh attended with his partner Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
I wonder if Waller-Bridge bumped into Donald Glover. The two were to star in Amazon's TV adaption of MR. AND MRS. SMITH - a project that Glover brought to the streamer. He brought in Waller-Bridge who he became close to when they made SOLO (he also feted her when she won her BAFTA-LA honour). But in 2021 it was announced they had creative differences and she left the project. When Glover wrote about it in his self-interview in Interview magazine last year he wrote, "I still like her. I assume she still likes me." Waller's replacement is Maya Erskine of PEN15.
BEST MOTION PICTURE – NON-ENGLISH LANGUAGE Argentina, 1985 (Argentina), Prime Video
BEST ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA Cate Blanchett (Tár)
BEST ORIGINAL SCORE – MOTION PICTURE Justin Hurwitz (Babylon)
BEST ACTOR IN A MOTION PICTURE – DRAMA Austin Butler (Elvis)
*Austin was asked about his still present Elvis accent. He says he doesn't think he sounds that much like Elvis anymore, but says it is now in his DNA. Maybe when he does commentary for the DVD?
BEST MOTION PICTURE – ANIMATED Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio *A great film and deserving but I have a soft spot for PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH. I highly recommend it.
BEST ACTRESS IN A MOTION PICTURE – MUSICAL OR COMEDY Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once)
BEST ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN ANY MOTION PICTURE Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) *First major award win for an MCU project.
Her 1994 win vs. 2023.
Bassett and husband seemingly gathered their son after he participated in a TikTok prank ans told them Michael B. Jordan died.
youtube
BEST ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE IN AN MOTION PICTURE Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once)
*I think Ke Huy Quan's return to acting has eclipsed Brendan Fraser's role in THE WHALE as this awards season feel good story. Quan gave an emotional and enthusiastic speech, shouting out Steven Spielberg who cast him at 7-years old in INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM and later GOONIES which Spielberg executive produced.
While Quan has recently reconnected with Harrison Ford at last year's D23 (where Ford was stomping for the next Indiana Jones film and Quan season 2 of LOKI),
Quan and Spielberg has kept in touch over the year. After not finding acting work Quan began working behind the scenes in film as a stunt choreographer and assistant director. and Spielberg would frequently invite him to his film sets.
And while THE GOONIES cast has often reunited over the years like for their DVD commentary and other things, the one Goonie Quan remains the closest to is Jeff Cohen who played Chunk who has been Quan's lawyer for years.
BEST ORIGINAL SONG – MOTION PICTURE “Naatu Naatu” (RRR)
*This whole time I thought "Naatu Naatu" was the end credit song of RRR, but no, that's "Etthara Jenda", which to me is the much better song. Some people speculate it's a bit too political which is why the studio didn't put it forward for consideration because you have to remember, India did not put RRR forward for anything - its American distributor is running this campaign. It's that distributor who has put it forward for Best Picture for the Oscars.
How big is RRR here in the states? Los Angeles based Beyond Fest announced they were selling tickets for a IMAX screening and cast Q&A and the tickets sold out in 98 seconds.
BEST TV SERIES – DRAMA House of the Dragon
BEST TV SERIES – MUSICAL OR COMEDY Abbott Elementary
BEST ACTOR IN A TV SERIES – DRAMA Kevin Costner (Yellowstone)
BEST ACTRESS IN A TV SERIES – DRAMA Zendaya (Euphoria)
BEST TV LIMITED, ANTHOLOGY SERIES OR TV FILM The White Lotus
BEST ACTOR IN A LIMITED, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A FILM MADE FOR TV Evan Peters, Dahmer (Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story)
*Years ago I went to a panel Evan was on IIRC it was when Evan did the American Horror Story season of CULT and Evan talked about how supportive and caring Sarah Paulson is because AHS darkness often takes a toll on him and Paulson held enough awareness that she could tell when things were getting too rough on him and she would step in if the director/s were making him do too many retakes or if shooting went on too long. I hope in that time he has built up the armor he needs to not get worn down if he's going to keep playing in Ryan Murphy's toybox.
BEST ACTRESS IN A LIMITED, ANTHOLOGY SERIES, OR A FILM MADE FOR TV Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS – TV LIMITED SERIES/FILM Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR – TV LIMITED SERIES/ANTHOLOGY/TV MOVIE Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird)
*I am just going to assume Taron made this special post to show people that there are no hard feelings over PWH not thanking Taron during his speech.
Taron (in Giorgio Armani with his mum) was nominated for a SAG Award.
BEST ACTRESS IN A TV SERIES – MUSICAL OR COMEDY Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary)
BEST ACTOR IN A TV SERIES – MUSICAL OR COMEDY Jeremy Allen White (The Bear) *Very happy for White but I really wished he had been recognized during his SHAMELESS years. He was as good as the often recognized William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS – TV SERIES Julia Garner (Ozark)
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR – TV SERIES Tyler James Williams

Sharon Stone is 66 years, I think she is now a little bit too old for the role. Sydney doesn't fit the role for me, also she is not a box office draw yet, ABU did great but his other movies didn't. Is like saying Glen Powell is a box office draw, Twister needs to do well, His last movie Hitman hasn't been that a big success on Netflix
The Winner needs:
A strong mid 50's actress, She has to have sex appeal and high class look (Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Diane Lane, Julianne Moore, Cate Blanchet, Jennifer Connelly, Julia Roberts, Marisa Tomei, Naomi Watts, Rachael Weisz) have to be more out there.
2. An A-list handsome young actor, has to look in his mid 20's and in a great shape (he got a tennis scholarship).
3. The daugther role could be a newcomer or a not that famous actress in his early 20s. She can't be this hot chick but an intellectual type, strong personality.
I think Glen is on his way to becoming a box office draw...mainly because most people like his films and he's in SAFE films that tend to do well box-office-wise. A lot of the films he's been choosing are things that people actually want to see on the big screen.... ABY, Top Gun: Maverick, Twisters, etc. If he keeps playing his cards right, I can see people going to see films just cuz he's in them.
I like Nicole, Diane, Cate, Rachel and maybe also Julianne from the list you've provided. 😊 I'll be honest, it might feel a little weird to see Tom opposite Marisa or Naomi in a role like this, mainly because they both played mother figures to him in his prior films. I know...I know...it's just "ACTING", but still.... It's a bit WEiRD lol. 👀😅 Keep in mind, these sex scenes might be a little risque onscreen... 👀
I agree, the daughter could be a newcomer. I still think that the daughter role is important though, because keep in mind, the DAUGHTER is who the main character is actually in love with. I don't think we should just discount the daughter in other words. So I think it would have to be someone that Tom (or whichever lead actor they put in the role) has GREAT chemistry with as well! 😊

Baby, I'm so sorry you went through this. I noticed you were gone, but I thought maybe since the show was over you just hadn't been using the blog much...
NOW, SIDENOTE: I didn't realize you were milfsociety 😅
And also.. I often tell people this and they usually don't pay me no mind, but anybody interacting on Tumblr who is either a POC, or supportive of characters who are, should never allow anonymous messages.
Tumblr is full of racist fandoms and most of them are gross people who take advantage of the ability to be anonymous. Turn that shit off, posthaste.
On top of that, I never apologize to nobody I don't know if I know I didn't do shit wrong. From the way this heffa started the message, I immediately feel like they showed up disrespectful. And I woulda told them that them and they friend can kiss my Black ass. Furthermore, if you didn't go to somebody's page or post and actually attack them, calling you posting your own opinions about weird bitches online an attack is not your problem.
That's they problem.
They could just block you if your post got back to them and they was hollerin like a hit dog. You don't owe them people nothing.
Last thing: From everything they said about their friend, shit sounded like they was tryna paint a turd rose colored. I wish you could take your apology back. I can't stand people who try to stand on their marginalizations to play victim.
They saw a post about them and you need to be nicer? You could have come into their space and told them to go to hell, and you did not. So, this person just had a lot of audacity in MY opinion, before you even found out their true colors. Let's be so serious.
And I say this as a person who also enjoys Cate and Sam - So what? If they love them and you hate them on your own blog, that sound like not they business. Idk if it was in their tags, so maybe if that was the case there could be a discussion about tagging character hate, but it is WILD to place the burden of comfort for this person outside of your blog on you.
Hopefully, you'll enjoy your time now that you got them up outta your area.
i honestly don’t even know where to begin with this post, so i guess i’ll start with hi! sorry, i’ve been gone so long, though probably most of you didn’t even notice i was gone lol. sorry for not giving any warning to my absence, and i am especially sorry to the mutuals who have reached out to me that i haven’t responded to. i was and still am struggling with anxiety and depression and towards the new year it was getting to be a bit much for me, so i decided to take a mental health break from social media.
i’d honestly been contemplating coming back, but today i received a dm from someone with a link to a post that was accusing me of bullying and creating fake accounts to bully other people in this fandom. first of all, i would like to emphasize that this is not true. attached below is a screenshot of all the blogs that i own (EDIT 2/9/24: i have since deleted the screenshot for my own privacy and i believe that since i made this post, there has been more than enough evidence to clear my name.) milfsociety is my main account, which i have linked before on this blog and many of my mutuals also follow me on my main, and the rest of them are just me saving my old usernames or other sideblogs that i rarely use, but all of them have been inactive for two months at least.
i do NOT condone bullying ever, and to be continually accused of it by this person is very disheartening. it started with this post (seen below) that i made back in november after seeing a post discrediting marie as the main character of gen v. i admit that my language was probably a bit harsher than was necessary, but honestly my intention was not to send hate to op (which is why i never tagged it with any gen v related tags) but to defend marie. it also wasn’t meant to be solely specific to this one person but as a general post because at the time, there were lots of accounts discrediting marie and to be honest, i was just kinda venting bc of how sick of it i was. (also, just to mention, i have intentionally left out their username because the last thing i want is to send hate to this person.) this was the only post i made on the topic and later i heard that apparently op blocked me afterward (which does not offend me in the slightest since i have since done the same thing) so this honestly should have been the end of it.
i honestly hadn’t given this post a second thought until a little under a month later i received this ask out of nowhere, accusing me of ableism and bullying. i replied to this ask, which i will link here. honestly this ask came as a complete shock to me, because i had honestly forgotten all about my previous post.
i responded to anon and in the reply i apologized to their friend for my hurtful comments and expressed that it was never my intention to attack anyone, especially anyone with a disability, which i did not know about when i initially made the first post. i also explained my side, stating why i made the post in the first place, which i still stand by. originally, i had linked their post in my reply, which in hindsight was a mistake that i regret and i should’ve known better. again, my last intention ever is to spread hate and negativity or to bully anyone, so i deleted the link when i was asked by a third party. this person has also since deleted that post about marie entirely.
shortly after i posted the reply, i guess i can only assume that whoever anon was told them about the reply. i’m honestly not sure if they’ve ever actually read this reply or not, but they made a response to my reply, accusing me of harassment and bullying. honestly, it really confused me at the time, since i’d only made two posts in reference to them, and one was a reply to an ask, but we ended up having a third party account who was mutuals with both of us acting as a mediator to settle things and i genuinely wanted to move on from the situation. we both had each other blocked and it seemed to me that anon was just trying to instigate more drama between us, so i thought it best to just leave it at that. i was also going through some mental health issues at the time (unrelated to this situation even though it didn’t help) and had been considering taking a break from tumblr, and so i thought it would be best to just go inactive for a while.
this is honestly the first time i’ve used tumblr in the two months since i’ve been gone, so i have no idea what else has been happening regarding any other blogs and this person, but apparently i am being named as the sole instigator here and i just wanted to once and for all clear up this issue and my name. i’m honestly not sure if this person will see this post or if they’ll even accept it as truth. i can’t force them or anyone to believe me as i really don’t know what else i’d have to do to prove that i don’t have any other secret accounts other than making this post.
i will probably continue to be inactive on this account as i think it is in everyone’s best interest. i never wanted to contribute or start any drama in this fandom, but i feel like i am partially responsible in how this situation has turned out, so i would also like to apologize to you all as well. i’ve never had an account of mine get as big as this one has (thank you to everyone who liked and supported my silly little ramblings!) and i can honestly say i have had the best time interacting and fangirling with you all about this show and these characters that i love so much and i will continue to enjoy and love gen v and marie from afar!
goodbye for now,
rose (aka mariejordans)

It's safe to say that a bunch of people bonding over 100-year-old recipes is not what typically comes to mind when you imagine TikTok food content. But, also, Hollis's current online popularity isn't solely thanks to TikTok. He's also attracted a sizable fandom on the sometimes forgotten, but immensely powerful corner of the internet known as Tumblr. In fact, he's so popular that, in April, he entered into the site's top-20 list of web celebrities, according to Cates Holderness, head of editorial at Tumblr. Holderness told Eater the spike was likely because Hollis did a live video where he finally acknowledged his growing fandom on Tumblr.
"It was really funny to see people freaking out in an excited way, like, 'Oh my gosh, this guy that we love has acknowledged us and thanked us in this really sweet and sincere way'," she said. "He's aware that the Tumblr audience is there, but he's very nervous to interact with it."
Hollis's videos are regularly downloaded from TikTok and re-uploaded on Tumblr, where they have long, very viral second lives, which is actually common for popular TikTok, in general. But, according to Holderness, the thing that really ignited Hollis's fandom on the platform was a text post from 2021 written by a user named @thestuffedalligator. It was shared 25,000 times and reads:
The main thing I get from Dylan Hollis cooking old recipes is this:
Recipes from the 1910s and the Great Depression are great, and I suspect it's because they were made by someone with limited resources. But they found a way to make something good, maybe even something fantastic with those limited resources, and they wanted to write it down and share with their friends so that they could also make something out of saltines and potatoes. Recipes from the 1910s and the Great Depression are written down and shared in love.
The recipes you should fear come from the 1950s and 1960s, which I'm pretty sure are written down and shared as a form of McCarthyism.
"The history side of Tumblr is a very large community," Holderness said. "So it's kind of not surprising that a lot of the recipes that he makes, the older recipes, from the '20s, from the Great Depression, tend to be very popular. The recipes that are either extremely good or extremely terrible, in general, get the most traction."
For what it's worth, Hollis agreed with @thestuffedalligator's post, saying the Great Depression recipes are his favorite and the ones from the '60s are his least favorite; though he doesn't think that McCarthyism is to blame for why recipes from that era are so inedible. Instead, he thinks it was because bringing Jell-O to a potluck was a way to signify that you had enough money to own a refrigerator, and gelatin was marketed to women as a way to stay slim.

hiiii i was hoping you could write a florence pugh x fem reader one shot where florence gets nominated for oscar and they celebrate like maybe r makes a party and after that it can me smut if you are comfortable with that pls
YOU HAVE A FUCKING OSCAR!
Warnings: A little degradation in bed, a bit of black humor, Smut and therefore 18+ only, fluff, established relationship
Word count: 2.0 K
Pairing: Florence Pugh x Fem!Reader
Prompt: Florence is nominated for an academy award, but she doesn't think she's good enough to win the award.
Y/N will show her that she is not only an excellent actress, but that she is also an excellent girlfriend.
Requests: OPEN
[Main masterlist] [Actors and actresses masterlist]
“Could you hold still, you won't even be able to watch TV”
“Y/N, how do you ask me to relax”
"Come baby, you just need to relax"
Flo sat next to me as the television returned from its commercial breaks.
"Are you going for 'best supporting actress' or 'best actress'?"
"I'm your girlfriend, and you don't know what my role was?"
"Sorry, I fell asleep in the middle"
We both started laughing as she just hit my knee
"You're a disgusting girlfriend"
"You still love me" I crinkle my nose and stuck out my tongue
"I really adore you"
The sound of the television interrupted us
'And the nominees for Best Actress are: Olivia Colman - The Field of Lilies.
Florence Pugh–Green....'
We didn't even listen to the other nominees, it was just a matter of hearing Flo 's name for her to start jumping on the couch, while I threw myself on top of her so I could hug her
"You did it love, damn you did it!" I started kissing all over her face while she calmed down and laughed at the tickle that caused her "YOU HAVE A FUCKING OSCAR!"
"Well, as such I still don't have it" the blonde shrugged her shoulders in indifference
"What nonsense are you saying? Who else could be deserving of this award? Who else is nominated?"
"I seem to be competing against Olivia Colman, Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett and Emma Stone" I saw her shoulders slump almost in defeat "I'm literally competing against the titans of Hollywood"
"Well, there's always the option of a multiple homicide" I raised my eyebrows repeatedly trying to make her laugh, but she just grimaced "It was just a joke"
"I don't stand a chance." Flo slumped her shoulders in defeat. "How am I going to win against such actresses?"
“Hey , listen to me” I took her face in my hands to make her eyes look directly into mine “you are a phenomenal actress, you have nothing to envy Meryl Streep; you're just as talented" I started kissing her forehead and cheeks "and assuming you didn't win, the simple fact of being nominated is already something incredible, something that deserves a great celebration"
"What do you have in mind, bunny?"
"A big party"
———————————————————————————
Although at first, Florence refused to have a party, but, as soon as she saw the first guest arrive, her frown immediately disappeared.
At first I thought that the Oscar nomination would be a good excuse to throw a giant-sized party, but seeing how our apartment was becoming a small mess with the amount of people, I began to worry.
"Y/N, you look stressed" Scarlett put her arm around my shoulders and snatched my glass of juice "You should have some alcohol"
"I'm not stressed, I'm just thinking about what I'll have to pick up after this"
"But isn't it worth it just to watch your girlfriend celebrate her nomination?"
"Sure" I looked at the blonde's profile and tapped her cheek with my fingers "speaking of nominations, do you expect this to be your chance to take the statuette home, Mrs. Johansson?"
"Well, the truth is that, it has been complicated, but if we take into account..."
We both started laughing at his antics, but I returned my gaze to my girlfriend.
"Flo doesn't think she has a chance"
“What? But she is a great actress"
"That's what I tell her, but it seems she's a bit intimidated by being in direct competition with Meryl Streep."
"Well... maybe I'd be less nervous if in an almost extraordinary way, Meryl Streep was dropped from the academy, wouldn't I?" she started hitting my arm with his elbow
"That's what I told her" we laughed again "but as much as I love my girlfriend, I would like to see more musicals with Meryl"
"TRUE; You know I love your girlfriend, but if Meryl wins, I won't be mad."
The party continued until late at night, and at almost 3:00 AM the last guest left, and finally Florence and I were able to go up to our room.
I fell straight onto the bed, while Flo changed into more comfortable clothes .
"Did you like your party?"
"Of course my love, thank you very much for doing this for me"
She lay down next to me and I quickly put my head on her chest.
"I'm surprised how you looked so beautiful in that pretty dress, and right now, despite your messy clothes you still look like the most beautiful woman in the world"
At first, we start with a make out session and nothing more, just wanting to show her how beautiful she is in my eyes, how in love I am with her, and how proud I am to be her girlfriend.
But things started to level up, my hand went straight to her belly, under her shirt, while Flo gently squeezed my butt; but her hand did not stay long in the place, she quickly started to climb up my back until he touched the zipper of my dress and started to lower it while I walked away a little
"You know honey, I love how that dress looks on you, but I'd love to see you without it."
I knelt down putting my knees on either side of her torso and stripped out of my little red dress, leaving me in just a pair of cotton panties.
At first, I was very embarrassed that my girlfriend saw me in underwear that was not 'sexy', it even became an insecurity for me, but the best I could do was expose that insecurity to Flo , she made me feel safe of me, my body and even my clothes. So when I saw how she gave me a beautiful smile at the sight of my underwear, it only made me return it
She raised her upper body and supported her weight on her forearms, causing her hair to cascade.
"Is this 'Snoopy' underwear?"
" Flo , stop making fun of my underwear!"
"What? She's cute," she started kissing my hips as she tried to pull my panties down, "I'm amazed how you make that damn dog look so good on a butt."
I patted her hands lightly, causing her to take her hands off my hips and look directly into my eyes.
“It seems unfair to me that you wanted to pull off my only garment, while you still haven't taken anything off”
Florence almost graciously and quickly pulled me in, causing my back to touch the mattress as she almost ripped off her nightgown and bra, leaving her in simple black Calvin Klein panties.
“Ready, now, what we have left”
He began to kiss my neck, knowing that it is one of my weak points, causing me to let out small moans, as she went down to my breasts.
Despite having little fat in that part of my body, Flo liked to play with my nipples, she knew my body like the back of her hand.
Although she liked to take her time, I think my not-so-light moans and constant hip thrusts made her feel a little sorry for me, so she quickly removed my panties.
"Do you have a hair bow?"
I took the garter from my wrist and handed it to her.
She tied her hair up in a little ponytail and went back down to my legs
She started kissing my thighs as she went up, but just as she got to my center, she turned away.
“ Flo ...no games please”
"O.K baby"
She took a long, slow lick at my center, from my perineum to my clit causing me to let out a higher, higher moan.
"You are a delicacy of the gods" she gave my clit a little pat making me jump and bite the pillow to keep from screaming "You are the best bitch I could ask for"
Florence knew that bad words made me so hot, so she was using that to her advantage.
Knowing that she had had enough of foreplay, Flo simply proceeded to suck, lick and even bite my clit, while her index and middle fingers entered my cavity and searched for my G-spot, arching my back, taking her ponytail. and pulling. a little
"Flo… I'm close"
“Come for me, bitch. Shout my name"
The orgasm hit me so hard I don't even remember making a sound beyond a moan; I think the fact that Florence was away from home for a few days made not only my head and heart miss her, but my body as well.
"That was good?" She ask as brings her face closer to mine.
“Oh yeah, I missed you” I stole a kiss from her, tasting myself on his lips
“ Mmm , girl did I miss you too”
I took her shoulders with my hands and with a little force, I exchanged positions leaving her lying down and me straddling her.
"What's on your mind, dirty girl?"
" Mmm , just making up for my winner" I started to kiss her neck, causing her to giggle.
"But I haven't won the Oscar yet, baby"
“But the simple fact of being the incredible girlfriend that you are, makes you deserve an award”
I began to play with her breasts, while my right hand began to enter her panties.
"I just started touching you and you're already wet?" I bit her right nipple a bit
"Agh, what do you want me to do, I like to see how my girl goes crazy for my caresses"
"You're a fucking narcissist" I sucked on her other nipple, causing her to violently arch her back and try to grab a handful of my hair "no, precious, you can't touch until I tell you to."
"My love, don't be cruel"
“Do what I tell you Rose, or I will stop touching you”
She understood, so she let me go back to my task of playing with her, but I didn't want to make her suffer either, so I started to make a tour with my tongue to her lower belly, right where the elastic of her panties began, which I started to lower with the teeth slowly
"Y/N, please don't be cruel."
“I will only be kind because you were kind to me”
I almost ripped her panties off and buried my face in her center, sucking on her clit.
"Son of a bitch, Y/N, tell me I can touch you"
"Yes, you can touch me now"
I quickly pull my hair up into a makeshift ponytail and try to find a rhythm between my movements and her hip thrusts.
Unlike me, Florence was much louder, so the moans and screams were immediate.
"Mmm, you're doing great, you're a good slut" she pulled my hair again, making me moan and the vibrations from her reached her clit "You don't know how much I love you"
I started working a little harder, biting on her clit and even spitting on my fingers to insert them into her vagina
"Just hearing you spit reminds me how vulgar you can be, you're just vulgar to me right baby?"
"Yeah Flo I'm just your little bitch"
"Ahg, my little bitch" her legs began to shake and her toes began to curl together with her back "I am cumming, I want you to leave me clean"
"Yes love"
Her orgasm overtook her causing her to let out a loud scream, which our neighbors surely heard. Doing my best to make her orgasm last a little longer, I licked at her slowly, until she was back to normal.
"Damn you Y/N you're a goddess"
Flo forced me to go back up to her face and kiss me desperately "Thank you very much"
“My love, there is nothing to be thankful for”
"I'm not just talking about sex. I mean everything, the party, celebrating with me, trusting me, being the best thing that could have happened to me."
I lay on her chest while she kissed my head and I kissed her chest
"I'm the one who should be thankful, that a great person and actress loves me enough to give me the best sex in the world"
We both laughed and little by little we got tired, so we quickly fell asleep cuddling, but not before thanking life for the incredible girlfriend I have.

Just Breathe
Tom Holland x Female!Osterfield!Bisexual!Reader
Summary: Childbirth waits for no one, not even the Oscars.
Warnings: fluuuuuff, pregnant reader, mentions of childbirth, good press articles, BISEXUAL READER WOOOHOOO
Word Count: 1.5k words
Estimated Reading Time: 6 minutes
A/N: heeeeey look @peterspideyy @parkersbliss that crazy idea i ranted to you about like six months ago finally got done! i can’t believe i did it... this feels too good to be true, is the world gonna end or something?
Masterlist
"I don't think this is a good idea."
"Me neither."
"Please, just stay here."
You looked up to your brother and husband, frowning as you smoothed your hand over the soft black fabric of your gown.
"I am not missing the Oscars, Tom. I've still got two weeks until I'm due, it'll be fine."
You sat down on the bed and looked dejectedly at your shoes, then proceeded to throw puppy dog eyes your brother's way until Harrison had no choice but to kneel and help you put on your comfortable trainers. There's no way you're putting on your heels at 37 weeks of pregnancy.
"But what if Baby decides to come sooner? You could go into labour at any moment!"
You rolled your eyes and only raised your arms so they could help you out of bed.
"You guys are being over-dramatic. Nothing's gonna happen. We're just going to the Oscars, we'll have a good time, and hopefully, I'll leave with a little statue under my arm."
With that, you waddled out of your hotel room, ready to get into the limo.
---
"(Y/n)! It's so good to see you! You look radiant as always!"
You smiled at Kaitlyn, an interviewer you knew and trusted and rubbed your belly comfortingly.
"Thank you, I feel like a whale, but Baby'll be here soon so it's worth it."
She smiled and asked you a bunch of questions about your movie and how you were feeling about being nominated for Best Actress.
"But anyway, how far along are you now?"
"I'm a little over 37 weeks, they should be coming soon. Tom and Haz were actually really apprehensive about me coming here since I'm so close to my due date."
She smiled and looked over at the two men, obviously on edge.
"Well, I wish you all the best and I sincerely hope you win."
You hugged her goodbye and posed for a few more pictures before being led inside by your husband.
---
"And now, for the moment you've all been waiting for..."
Everyone watched with bated breath as Brie Larson, last year's winner, got ready to announce who would take home the trophy.
"This year's winner, and taking home the Oscar for best actress in a leading role..."
Tom took your hand and you squeezed it tight, ready to applaud one of the other amazing actresses on their win.
"(Y/n) Holland, for her brilliant performance in Two Sides of the Same Coin!"
You felt like your heart was gonna beat out of your chest, run to that stage, kiss Brie, then promptly burst to flames out of sheer, unadulterated enthusiasm. Tom was hugging you and whispering how much you deserved it while your brother gently guided you to the podium. None of them would ever allow you to go up there on your own. Always one in front of you in case you trip forward and one behind you to catch you if you fall back.
Overprotective much?
As soon as you reached Brie, you hugged her tight (or as tight as you could with a human baby house separating you), taking the award while the two boys hugged her too.
"Holy Louis Tomlinson in a crop top."
The audience laughed, most of them already familiar with your strange One Direction inspired expressions.
"Wow, I didn't actually think I was gonna win this, everyone had such amazing performances. I-It's an honour, really. Two Sides of the Same Coin was a project very near and dear to my heart, so I'd like to thank the amazing Drew Barrymore, who wrote and directed the movie."
The room erupted in cheers and the woman smiled at you from her place on the front row.
"Bisexual representation is something we don't get very often, and when we do, it's always misjudged. So thank you for showing the world what bisexuality really is, and for giving me a chance to live out my dreams of kissing lots of people. This idiot tied me down too soon."
You pointed behind you at Tom, hearing his appalled squeak along with Harrison's guffaw of a laugh.
In other news, the baby was starting to inconvenience you slightly. Baby had been going crazy since last night (not that you'd tell the boys) and the Braxton-Hicks were killing you, but it only got worse now.
"I'd also like to thank my amazing costars, Zendaya, Bella Thorne, and Owen Patrick Joyner, it was awesome to make out with you all..."
The crowd laughed while you felt something trickle down your legs.
Oh.
OH.
You'll never live this down, that's for sure.
"Uh, before I finish can one of you idiots call the car and get them to come to the exit please and thank you? Now as I was saying-"
"Wait, why?"
You turned to your brother and smiled innocently.
"Oh, my water just broke."
The crowd cheered.
Tom screamed.
Harrison fell to the floor, unconscious.
You sighed.
"New plan, can anyone try to wake my brother while my hus-"
You looked at Tom, frantically doing small back and forths between you and his best friend, unsure of what to do.
"-While someone else calls the car because both of them are apparently useless."
"We need to get you to the hospital!"
His terrified scream could be heard all through the room, even with no mic.
"What? No! I need to finish my acceptance speech, then go back to the hotel to shower and maybe take a little nap and then go to the hospital. My water just broke, Thomas, we have time, calm your tits."
You turned back fully to the mic, facing the hysteric faces of the crowd, very entertained by the exchange.
"Now as I was saying, I want to thank the amazing team that worked on this movie, you're all amazing and it was such a good experience. I'd also like to thank my family for always being there for me and supporting me and Haz in our acting careers. Thank you to my brother, even if he's unconscious right now, he'll just watch it on Youtube later, for literally forcing me to go to the audition. And lastly, I'd like to thank my wonderful husband, who hopefully hasn't passed out yet, for always supporting me and being my biggest rock through everything. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to deliver a baby, you know, just normal Saturday night stuff."
---
An Oscar in hand and another... down her legs?
(Y/n) Holland sure gave the Oscars something to be entertained by on this last Saturday. The wife of fellow actor Tom Holland looked radiant in her custom-made Valentino dress, looking ready for a night of fun.
(Y/n) was nominated for this year's Best Actress in a Leading Role award, alongside Meryl Streep, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, and Tessa Thompson, but the Oscar went to her from her brilliant performance in Two Sides of the Same Coin. But it was during her acceptance speech that things got... slippery.
At 37 weeks of pregnancy, the Holland baby was ready to come at any minute, but apparently, theatrics run in the family. The actress was in the middle of her speech when she felt her water break, pausing in her talking to request a car be called.
You'd think her husband, Tom, and brother Harrison Osterfield, overprotective as they are, would be fully prepared! Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for our entertainment, they were not. Harrison went unconscious after hearing the news, dropping to the floor and earning himself a minor concussion, much to his sister's amusement
[image1-harrison-ice-pack.png]
@ynholland: "Don't worry, when you go into labour, I'll be with you every step of the way." Said Harrison Osterfield, then proceeded to pass out, get a minor concussion, and miss the whole delivery.😂 Good job, little bro👍
And just when you thought she couldn't get any better, she finishes her acceptance speech with: "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to deliver a baby, you know, just normal Saturday night stuff." We have no choice but to stan this iconic queen!
But for the news you've all been waiting for, Oscar Robert Holland (yes, the middle name is a homage to Robert Downey Jr. himself, we're not crying, you are!) was born just twelve hours later. Tom let know through a beautiful Instagram picture that he is in fact "perfectly healthy and loved by everyone already".
@tomholland2013: I present to you, my best creation to this date: Oscar Robert Holland. Thank you all for your prayers and kind messages, our boy is perfectly healthy and loved by everyone already❤️
But of course, Uncle Haz wouldn't stay behind.
@hazosterfield: Since I know you've all been worried sick and desperate to know how the baby is... I'm doing just fine, it's just a minor concussion :) Oh and my godson's great too.
And just to prove that the Osterfields are indeed the royal family of comedy, we leave with this wonderful picture posted to the happy mum's very own Instagram.
@ynholland: Guess I was so good they gave two Oscars instead of one ;)

thoughts on the golden globe nominations?
Insane behavior to nominate Julia Garner for Inventing Anna while ignoring Toni Collette for The Staircase. Like. Objectively!!! Insane.
Imelda got nominated because they figured The Crown was better than it was this season... I'm gonna be real, Elizabeth Debicki was so good as Diana but was the material giving her something for a nom...? I don't know, man. I felt like Diana was barely onscreen much of the time, and didn't get a lot of *big moments*. Elizabeth didn't get the type of material Emma Corrin got, that's for sure.
None of the Drama series noms excite me... I do think Emma D'Arcy is very talented so I'm happy for them, but HOTD being nominated is a sign of the times.
Yay for Abbott Elementary and Hacks! Every nom they got was worthy. The Bear... is a comedy...? Okay.
I hate that Monster got nominated for Best Limited Series, such a fucking hackjob of a show.
AVATAR being nominated is... So ridiculously Globes. But who knows? Everyone is collectively gaslighting each other about those movies, so maybe we'll see it at the Oscars? EL OH EL!!!
Top Gun: Maverick being nominated is hilarious, and I say this as someone who actually did enjoy that movie for what it was. Like... stop the count.
I haven't seen Tar (yet), but I am getting increasingly annoyed at a movie that is apparently about Me Too but make it a ~predatory lesbian~ instead of Harvey Weinstein and "maybe cancel culture is bad" is... taking a lot of shine off better movies. Like. I know that everyone has a boner for Cate Blanchett despite her being a Woody Allen sympathizer, but? Maybe take a look at some of the commentary surrounding that movie? And its potential message? Yeah? Maybe consider why someone who stood by Woody would take that role, and the implications there?
Ana de Armas should not be getting noms for Blonde but okay.
Glass Onion's cast seems under-represented.
Yay for Michelle Yeoh, yay for Emma Thompson, yay for Ke Huy Quan, why is Jamie Lee Curtis being run for EEAAO and not Stephanie Hsu? Stephanie gave a POWERHOUSE performance in that movie.
The fact that The Fabelmans flopped getting a pass from awards outlets when it normally wouldn't get that pass... Just like West Side Story. Because Spielberg. Lmao.
Anyway, a lot of underwhelming noms. I honestly haven't felt jazzed about a lot of late stage awards contenders. For me, movies I saw earlier in the year (Everything Everywhere All At Once, most obviously) still reign. And same goes for performances. Insane!!! to me that we're talking about Cate Blanchett... again... for Tar, when Michelle Yeoh, Viola Davis, and even Emma Thompson gave the kind of performances that they gave earlier this year.
I feel like Best Actor for the Big Show could come down to Brendan and Austin, though it's still a bit early to tell. I have zero interest in seeing The Whale and I think there's a lot of valid critique surrounding it (and some that is less valid) but I'm not gonna lie, I love Brendan so I'd be happy to see him win after everything he's been through in the industry. Austin will almost definitely be nominated again at some point in his career, with the rate that he's going.

trust me
summary: steve coming out to you as bisexual :)
warnings: fluff !! nervous steve, maybe emotional reader bc that would be me
i got teary-eyes writing this but yeah anyways
bisexual!steve harrington x fem!reader
steve had been thinking about it for three months now. at first he didn't believe it – thinking it's not real and he's just insane, because all he know is boys like girls, and girls like boys. poor boy doesn't even know that the word bisexual actually exists. but after robin came out to him as lesbian almost a year ago, maybe the feeling he has was right this entire time. he isn't crazy as he think he is.
steve decided to talk to robin about the situation, since she knows better about this than anyone else.
"i just don't know why you won't tell her," robin says as she puts phoebe cates' standee in place, scrunching her face at her friend, who was visibly stressed out about the current situation. "(y/n) obviously loves you and will accept you no matter what. hell, she's like, head over heels for you. anyone can tell if they see you two together." she finishes as she walks near the boy.
steve lets out a huff, "i know she loves me, i do too. but i'm still scared." he says quietly, thinking anyone would hear, although they were about to close the store and no one was around except them two.
"that's fine. you know, i was so afraid to tell you about me, too. but you've gained my trust, dingus. and you're stuck with me for life." robin pats his shoulder as a way of her saying that his feeling is totally valid and also a way of her saying thank you.
trust. it's a big word for steve. he had trusted so many people in his life, but most of them betrayed and hurt him. he already lost the person he once truly loved and trust, nancy wheeler. it hurt him so much, like someone took his glass heart and dropped it, stomped on it, destroyed it in a thousand pieces.
he doesn't know if he can handle it if he loses you too.
"i'm just- what if she gets upset? what if she runs away?" steve turned his head to robin with a terrified face. "then it's her loss. you're an amazing person, steve. although you're a dumbass most of the time." steve lightly punched her shoulder, making her laugh.
"in all seriousness, just tell (y/n) what you feel when you're ready. i'm sure she won't do anything that would hurt you. i'm telling you she loves you more than anything you could ever think of."
—
a week after that conversation with robin, he was finally sure about what he is and what he likes.
the phone ringing from the living room caught your attention right after you put the pancakes on the plate. "it's just 7 in the morning, who the hell calls this early?" you muttered to yourself.
he immediately felt bad when he heard your frustrated 'hello' on the other line. "babe, hey. good morning, i'm sorry if i interrupted you or anything." you smiled upon hearing his voice. "hey, it's fine, don't worry about it. what made you call this early?" you asked as you sat on the floor. "i..i need to tell you something, but not here on the phone. i wanna tell it in person." you could tell that his voice was mixed with seriousness and anxiousness, which made you assume the worst.
"oh, okay. um.. are you gonna come here? i just made pancakes, i know you love those." you suggested, glancing back at the table as the smell of the pancake filled the house.
steve agreed and told you he would be there in a few minutes so you prepared breakfast for him and prepared some orange juice.
as expected, steve came ringing the doorbell and you fixed your hair a bit before opening the door. you half-expected him to look smiley and happy, but it was different. you stepped aside to let him in and shut the door.
"what is it that you wanted to tell me?" you said calmly, almost comforting that made steve melt. you brushed a strand of his hair away from his face and rest your hand on his cheek. "can we..sit?" he mutters quietly and you nodded.
you intertwined your fingers with his and dragged him to the kitchen where his favorite breakfast lays. he sat beside you, not saying any words. his heart was beating so fast and he's sure that you can practically hear it.
"everything okay?" you asked after putting the pancakes on your plate. you were starting to get nervous, thinking it's really that serious. "how..where do i even begin with this.. uh.." steve started mumbling to himself, you placed your hand on his forearm, letting him know that he can trust you.
steve let out a breath that he didn't know he was holding. "you know you can tell me anything, right? whatever that is, you can trust me." he stared into your eyes, searching for any hint of lie – but there weren't any.
he slightly nodded before looking around but you. "i like you, i mean, of course i do, you're my girlfriend. jesus, uh.. you know i love you, right?"
"yeah," your voice was quiet, unable to speak clearly because of the loud beating of your heart, but at least he admitted that he actually loves you. "yeah. of course."
steve took a deep breath, having the courage to look at your eyes. "before i say it, if you get mad i totally get it, but i hope you won't be. i just, don't wanna lose y-"
"steve?"
"-yeah?"
"just get to the point, please. i promise i won't be mad." you gave him a reassuring smile, and he returened you one.
"promise?"
"promise."
there was a few seconds of silence before he speaks again. "..i like girls. and.." he started, and you made a confused face. "and..i'm pretty sure i'm attracted to..guys, too." his voice trails off but you were able to catch it. he started to panic when you didn't say anything.
he looks down on his palm, picking his nails like he used to when he's anxious. "robin said it's called bisexual, at first i didn't know what it means but now i'm sure that i am that. and i've been thinking about that in the last three months but i didn't know how to tell you, because.. i was scared that you will leave me," his voice almost broke and when he had the courage, he looked back into your eyes. "but just know that i love you so much and if you don't love me anym–" he was interrupted with your hug, slowly letting out a sob which made him worry.
"(y/n)?" he was relieved when you looked up with a smile, sniffing as you let go of him. "sorry, this should be your moment, i just got carried away." you slightly laughed as you wiped your tears. he didn't say anything, he just looked at you, waiting for an answer.
"steve harrington, what made you think that i would ever leave you?" you held his hands with yours, drawing circles using your thumb to help him relax.
"you're not-"
"mad? no, of course not." you shook your head in disagreement. "why would i be mad at you? in fact, i am so so proud of you," you rest your hands on either side of his cheeks, his eyes still wide. "i know it's hard for you to do this but you did it, you're brave, and.. that's one of the things why i love you too." the tears went back to your eyes, "and i am glad that you did this, it means so much to me because i know that you trust me."
you sniffed, then let out a shaky breath. "i have no reason to be mad at you, steve. there's literally no reason. nothing will change. i'm still (y/n), your girlfriend and you're still steve, the love of my life and the one i would marry someday." steve smiled at your words and was about to make a joke about it, but stopped himself because he doesn't wanna ruin the moment.
"you became true to yourself and accepted it. there's nothing wrong with that." at this point you didn't care about the tears in your eyes, because he was crying too.
when he didn't say anything you just wiped his warm tears and pulled him for a hug, which he returned this time. "i love you so much, steve. more than anything you could ever think of."
his mind recalls the time when he talked to robin — when she said the same exact thing, and she was right.
"me too. i love you."
you were the first one to pull away from the hug that seemed like hours. "hey, stop crying now because i'll cry even more. i'm an emotional mess, remember?" you both laughed at your comment as he wiped your tear-stained cheek. you were glad to hear his laugh again, that laugh that you always admired. "okay." he chuckles as he nods, wiping his own tears too.
he turned to the table, ready to eat the now-cold pancakes you made. you remembered he even said that it doesn't taste the same if it wasn't you who cooked it.
once you both finished eating breakfast and cleaned the table, you headed back to the living room, prepared the movie ferris bueller's day off and he sits beside you, lower than usual so that your chin reaches the top of his head. you notice him look up at you, so you tilted your head down to see. "what?" you grin.
steve quirked an eyebrow, remembering your words from earlier. "so you're gonna marry me someday, huh?" he teased, but he knows you were serious. "no, actually. that was just for show." you rolled your eyes jokingly while a smile was visibly showing on your lips. "of course, dummy. there's no other person in the world that i would want to marry but you." when he smiled, you planted a kiss on his forehead before continuing to watch the movie.
you wrap your arm around his shoulder as you brush his hair with your other hand and not even an hour yet, he was already sound asleep in your arms.

Kiss Me (Mafia AU! Xiao)
synopsis: Ruling the mafia is a lonesome business. To rule with another, to trust another is a weakness. But no matter how much it hurts, there’s nothing in this world that can make him regret loving you. Ever.
word count: 918
pairing: Xiao x Reader
genre: angst, drabble
warnings: angst, just a lot of angst
taglist: @he-y-cate @yuumika-cchi
notes: bro. another post christmas fic lmfao. am I really gifting angst fics? prolly. damb am I fixing to be a genshin angst writer? this is so sad. THIS IS JUST A DRABBLE IM SO ASHAMED I DIDN’T WRITE MORE. I TRIED TO WRITE MORE BUT LIKE IT FELT SO RUINED WHEN I ADDED MORE SO IM CHANGING THIS TO A DRABBLE LMAO
You’re shot on the day of the Lantern Rites Festival. On what was supposed to be a beautiful night, it was your last.
“I’m sorry,” Xiao whispers against your lips, his breath warming your cold face, his eyes glassy as he stares into your eyes.
“If only I hadn’t gotten you involved in this situation th-“
“Oh,” you rasp out, “Xiao, we both know I wouldn’t have stayed away. I love you too much to do that.” It’s your fault, you know, if only you hadn’t dragged Xiao to the festival, to lower his guard, but your desperation was boundless and your love for him, limitless.
“But still,” he wheezes out, his eyes glassy and hands tightly clenched, “If only I had-“
“Stop.” You whisper, eyes squinting and blinking rapidly against the torrent of rain. Your face feels numb under the cold rain shower. You could almost laugh at the irony of your situation but if anything, it would only hurt Xiao more.
“You shouldn’t think like that... If you do you’d only bring yourself pain you know?” You roll your head towards him, eyes closed and your voice only but a soft whisper as the thunder echoed around the empty streets.
“Don’t ask too many ifs, it doesn’t do much good. You already know this.” You say softly.
When silence greets you, you open your eyes to meet his anguished ones. You force your lips to quirk up to form a small smile for him but despite your efforts, based on the flood of pain in his eyes, instead of reassuring him, your face turned out to be more of a grimace.
“I’ll kill them, I’ll kill them for doing this to you-“ You interrupt his ramble of threats, to ask him.
“Do you regret loving me?” You ask, eyes fluttering shut as you try to focus on maintaining even breaths. You ignore the gushing wound, looking away from your bloody trail that led to the water-filled ditches. You don’t think about the blood that joins the dirty and disgusting water that ran in the world’s grounds. Your kin, the earth says. You ignore that too.
“No,” Xiao hissed out between his teeth as if he was burned by your words, “How could you ever think I would ever regret you? Us?”
“If... If we hadn’t fallen in love... maybe you wouldn’t be.. crying right now,” you say hoarsely as the tears come up, unbidden. Despite your closed eyes, you can tell Xiao feels hurt at your assumption, his calloused hand holding your hand tightly at your words before relaxing slightly.
“If I had to live a life where I didn’t fall in love with you I’d rather have never lived at all.” Despite the ache that settled in your heart, eating up at you, you feel hot tears run down your cheeks, trailing down the bridge of your nose. Your nose clogs up, lips quivering at the surge of feelings inside of you.
“I love you please don’t forget that,” Xiao says, his eyes closed as he leans forward to place his forehead at the back of your hands.
“Kiss me,” you demand, nudging him with your hand to raise his head to meet your eyes. When Xiao looks up to your swollen red eyes, his grief grows. He looks at you for a hard minute, scanning your face and features to memorize you. His hands unconsciously tighten. Xiao stares into your eyes before he lowers his lips to your forehead, his eyes closing tightly as he kissed your forehead. The tears form at the corner of his eyes, tears gathering at his dark eyelashes. He leans back to look at you once more, his hands, shaking, come up to your cheeks to cradle them.
Xiao leans forward, hovering your lips for a second and then surging forward. His lips purchase yours with gentle pressure but with the ferocity and strength of his love for you. His tears start to stream down as the kiss ended, his lips quivering as he hovers an inch above you, staring at you with his red rimmed eyes.
“I love you,” Xiao whispers, “So much.”
He raises your body, leaning you towards his chest as he cradled your head. Xiao rests his on the top of your head, rocking back and forth in the rain as if to send you to sleep peacefully, and with the utmost gentleness that he has, he kisses your cheek softly.
You close your eyes to the sound of his heartbeat. You die with your love at the tip of your tongue as the bitterness washes away. You die with his love for the world.
As the storm rages, the pitter-patter of the rain and the thunder mute the sounds of his grief.
Some people tell tall tales of a man that would stand in the dark streets of Liyue, the floating lanterns in the sky only but a star. But in the darker parts of the streets, many would tell tales of the beginning of the reign of the Yaksha, their dominating presence, and the tell tale cold temperatures replacing what should’ve been warmth.
There are very little tales about a man who loved a woman so much that he’d had risk the empires he’s built and reigned terror on it when she had gone.
Perhaps it was for the best.
To tell tales of a time past gone is to only harbor more pain.
To dream of it, well, no one should know.

Black Widow
I don’t think anything is as frustrating to me in the MCU as the way it has done Natasha Romanoff dirty. Nine years after Natasha became more than just a sexpot spy in a catsuit and actually got to help save the world in The Avengers, here we are with her very own movie, approximately eight years too late. If I sound bitter, it’s because I am. Endgame left a bad taste in my mouth, and I wasn’t sure why I should even care about a new MCU story set in the recent past about a woman the Marvel movies really haven’t known what to do with in any meaningful way since the bright shining glory that was Winter Soldier. But, you give me Rachel Weisz and Florence Pugh and David Harbour as a Russian spy found family, and I’m willing to at least hear you out.
Spoiler-free synopsis: Basically, after the events of Civil War, Natasha (Scarlett Johansson) is on the run and someone comes looking for a package she has in her possession. That leads her to steal the contents of the package and hunt down its origins - her original family, a group of deep undercover Russian spies (Weisz, Harbour, and unknowing baby sister Pugh). In the process of getting the band back together, Nat learns the truth about a job from her past and the bulk of the movie is her going on a mission to make things right with bickering family of grumpy Russians in tow. The action scenes are tight, with some truly breathtaking sequences (an aerial fight near the end is a real knockout). Pugh is the MVP of the film, taking the role of comic relief as well as the emotional core, and her performance as Yelena is worth the price of admission alone. Weisz could step on my face and I’d say thank you, as per usual. Cate Shortland’s direction is competent, but nothing to write home about - she keeps the action moving, the pace brisk, and she lets the emotional beats breathe, so I suppose the movie’s unremarkable direction is probably a sign that it’s more good than bad. Her vision is strongest when she’s engaging with the theme of the subjugation of women and the trail of broken bodies that subjugation leaves in its wake.
As for the story itself, I enjoyed it because I care about Natasha and I crave more than anything more opportunities for her to be herself (not some pointless eye candy or over-the-top seductress as a form of nerd wish fulfillment), which this movie delivers. But even in her own movie, I couldn’t help but feel the shadow of the rest of the Avengers looming large in ways they don’t in say, an Iron Man or a Thor movie. All the payoffs to things we’ve heard about in Nat’s backstory - Budapest, Dreykov’s daughter - come from ensemble movies, and there are a ton of visual references and homages that can’t be coincidental to Black Panther, Captain America, and the SHIELD helicarrier from The Avengers. At least this movie has some Very Good Pigs as a highlight too.
Is this a good Black Widow movie? Yeah, I think so! I enjoyed my time and I’m glad it was made. Is it the best Black Widow movie? Nah, that’s still Winter Soldier. Is it the Black Widow movie we deserved? Absolutely not, because we deserved one eight years ago. Maybe in some other timeline in the multiverse folks got that movie, and they got to live in a world where Nat wasn’t an afterthought in her own damn franchise.

Weekend Top Ten #498
Top Ten Movie Cameos
The first time I think I ever noticed someone cameoing in a movie was Steven Spielberg. I was watching The Blues Brothers, and there was this guy, who I was sure was Mr. The Berg. I must have seen him in some behind-the-scenes something or the other. But he was a director, not an actor, so it couldn’t have been him, right? Then years later I was reading Empire, and sure enough, I was vindicated. It was indeed the play mountain himself. But more on that later.
So, cameos, then. What is a cameo? Now, in my opinion, I think it really has to be small. Really, it should just be one scene – or even one shot. The smaller the better. I’ve seen people online refer to Judi Dench in Shakespeare in Love or Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder as cameos, which is very, very daft, as those are clearly supporting roles – even if they are quite small (and remember, Dench didn’t win her Oscar for “Best Cameo”, she won it for “We Meant To Give You This Last Year”, which is a very important category in the Oscars). I also think the best cameos should be unexpected; a nice surprising treat. And usually they’re funny – the incongruity of seeing that person in this film. Because that’s the other thing: for a cameo to really work, the person cameoing has to be kinda famous. For instance, some might say that Ashley Johnson in The Avengers is a cameo, but whilst she’s obviously awesome and prodigiously talented, I don’t think she’s instantly recognisable enough (which, y’know, she’s mostly famous as a voice actor); also there’s nothing inherently funny or surprising about her role, she’s a waitress who’s saved by Captain America. It doesn’t feel like it’s saying anything to have Johnson play that role, other than I guess Joss Whedon wanted her in the movie (it’s actually funnier that her brief scene is referenced in Loki, because Kate Herron had the whole of the MCU to draw from in a montage, but chose to use an unknown character who’s in one tiny bit of one film, entirely because she’s a huge fan of The Last of Us – see, that is arguably a cameo).
So my rationale for what is and isn’t a cameo might seem complex or even arbitrary, but when has that stopped me in the past? And so, with no further ado, we now get deep into the weeds of it and celebrate my favourite movie cameos of all time. Oh, and there’s no Bill Murray here; I know, I know, it’s a really famous cameo, but, er, I’ve never seen Zombieland. Sorry.
Stan Lee in Pretty Much Everything (2000-2019): I mean, who else? The absolute King of Cameos. Lee was a massive publicity hound all his life, and passed up no opportunity to get in front of the camera, so once big, proper movies were being made of his comics, he was right there, selling hot dogs in X-Men (2000), rescuing children in Spider-Man (2002), and then right through every MCU film until his sad death in 2019 (and even popping up in Teen Titans!). Hearing him tell Miles Morales “I'm going to miss him,” in Into the Spider-Verse chokes me up every time.
Carrie Fisher & George Lucas in Hook (1991): this has always been one of my favourites because unlike virtually every other entry in this list, you only know this if you’ve been told. But it’s funny and it’s sweet. When Tinkerbell takes Peter to Neverland, she flies over a bridge, where a silhouetted couple are seen canoodling. Her pixie dust falls across them, and they begin to float into the air. And apparently the unrecognisable couple are played by Princess Leia and the director of Star Wars. Which, I think you’ll agree, is pretty cool (Hook is really good for cameos).
Brad Pitt in Deadpool 2 (2018): having an invisible character offers plenty of opportunity for some good gags, especially in a Deadpool movie, but the real laugh in the film comes when the Vanisher is electrocuted and we get to see his face for a split second. And – ha – it turns out to be the hugely mega-famous Brad Pitt. It’s funny because he’s a massive star.
Martin Sheen in Hot Shots! Part Deux (1993): it’s one thing for the movie to do an Apocalypse Now gag, as Charlie Sheen’s Topper Harley sails down a river on a military boat, but hanging a lampshade on it by making it cross over with Martin Sheen’s Willard from the classic seventies Vietnam epic is another thing entirely. And then both actors notice each other – ha, funny, they’re father and son in real life – and say in unison, “I loved you in Wall Street!”. Very on-the-nose all the funnier for it.
Steven Spielberg in The Blues Brothers (1980): well, I mentioned him, and here he is, a totally nonplussed-looking administrator bloke just merrily eating a sandwich. He’s frightfully young (I’m guessing he was probably about 32 or 33) and he’s got a big brown tache instead of his usual ‘Berg Beard, he’s dressed very smartly and he’s awfully polite. His demeanour is hilariously in stark contrast to the mayhem around him, and his public persona is also hilariously in contrast to the raucous and ribald mood of the movie.
Cate Blanchett in Hot Fuzz (2007): this is one I didn’t even notice till I read about it after seeing the movie. In a very funny scene where Simon Pegg’s Nick Angel chats to his ex-girlfriend Janine, she is head-to-toe in forensic gear throughout, with a mask covering her face, so all we see are her eyes. But the gag of it is, she’s played by the phenomenally famous Cate Blanchett. You get a megastar to do one scene but make her unrecognisable. So funny it beats Peter Jackson’s evil Santa.
Don Ameche & Ralph Bellamy in Coming to America (1988): this is another one I remember finding hilarious when I was a kid. Walking down the street late at night with love interest Lisa (Shari Headley), Akeem (Eddie Murphy) nonchalantly gives a huge wad of cash to some poor homeless bums. But it turns out that they’re played by Murphy’s old Trading Places co-stars Ameche and Bellamy – and they refer to each other by their character names from that earlier film. “We’re back!” declares Ameche, referencing the end of Trading Places, when their crooked broker characters were defeated and ruined by Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. It’s a great bit of shared-universe tomfoolery, and very funny for fans of Murphy’s movies. Oh, and speaking of Aykroyd…
Dan Aykroyd in Casper (1995): in 1995 it had been six long, bitter years without a new Ghostbusters film; back then, we could still hold out hope for a proper Ghostbuster 3. Sadly that never came to pass, but it was a very pleasant surprise when Ray Stantz himself popped up in Casper, of all things, fearfully running out of Whipstaff Manor in full ghostbusting regalia and declaring, “Who ya gonna call? Someone else!”. I mean, after facing down Gozer and Vigo and who knows what else, you’d think three sarcastic arsehole ghosts would be no match for him, but maybe the ‘busters were having tough times. Maybe this will all be backstory in Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Maybe Cathy Moriarty and Eric Idle will return the favour and do cameos of their own. We can but hope.
Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth, & Sam Neill in Thor: Ragnarok (2017): twenty years ago you could point to Goldmember as the, er, gold standard in multi-character cameo pile-ups. And while that is great – Danny DeVito giving the finger, Spielberg back-flipping – I think it’s been surpassed by this minor gaggle of stars hamming it up. Matt Damon – famouser than anyone actually billed in the movie – is An Actor Playing Loki. Dr. Alan Grant from Jurassic Park is An Actor Playing Odin (whilst Odin’s actor, Anthony Hopkins, plays Tom Hiddleston playing Loki playing Odin – do keep up), and Thor’s Real-Life Brother plays An Actor Playing Thor. It’s all delightfully meta and hilarious.
Ollie Johnston & Frank Thomas in The Incredibles (2004): this one’s really sweet, and like the Hook cameo, would very easily slip you by. At the end of the film, after the climactic battle, two old men cheer on the superheroes – “That’s old school!” “Yep, no school like the old school!” – but what’s great is that they’re voiced by – and designed to look like – Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas, the last two surviving members of the famous “Nine Old Men” group of Disney animators, who’d worked on many of the classic Disney films. This was Pixar and director Brad Bird giving a tip of the hat to the legends who came before them, and made all the sweeter by the fact that Johnston and Thomas (both sadly now deceased) were absolute best buds in real life. A cameo that educates and makes you think! How nice!
There you go. Sadly no room for any of the many great Star Wars cameos, from Daniel Craig through to George Lucas’ entire family. Oh well!
