short animated movie where there’s this kid made out of clay. they start off as a poorly defined blob playing with other normal looking children until her parents pull her away and sit her down in front of a mirror. (the parents are also red and made of clay but they’re shaped normally) they take a fettling knife to carve the impression of a face and hair onto the kid and throwing away the excess into the bin. fast forward thru and past high school i guess and the kid realizes that there’s nobody else like her. everyone around her always look perfect and human and complete while she spends hours carving herself and smoothing out edges only to still look amateurish and incomplete (scene where she finishes and even is proud of her work, until she turns her head and realizes that it doesn’t even fit with the other half) she gets so frustrated that she cuts more and more of her form and throws it away, wanting to reduce herself to nothing but a heap of waste. she gets so carried away that she accidentally cuts a big chunk of her face off and gives up

the next night she walks into a bar with a hoodie to hide her face. at some point she walks into the bathroom and stares too long at herself in the mirror, until some lady walks up to her and offers a carving knife. clay kid doesn’t do anything to the lady goes behind her, cuts off a bit of hair, and uses it to sculpt her a new face. after this the lady looks into the mirror herself and pulls her hair out. it turns out all of the other normal looking people are wooden puppets that regularly replace and change their parts and clay kid didnt even know. puppet lady reties her hair, replaces her ear w something in her bag, and whittles something into her cheek. at home our clay kid takes the wastebin and adds it back onto herself and sculpts herself more to her liking than to what’s realistic. when she goes back outside, she’s physically bigger and people notice her easier. later she becomes some sort of teacher despite a buncha kids and parents thinking she looks strange. one of her students breaks their arm and refuses to wear it again because the repaired one isnt good enough, so she offers them a new arm out of clay that they’re allowed to change as they please

Obviously this would all be live action, of real clay and wooden dolls. the average viewer would accept the dolls as regular people with regular human capabilities until the bar scene bc clay girl sees them as such. everyone here is trying to pretend that they’re human and hiding the fact that they’re all just dolls. maybe some secret lore would be that this is some post apocalyptic world where dolls came to life and just started imitating what they saw in humans. clay ppl aren’t super common because they traded all their limbs for wooden ones

a thing i am doing right now is i am writing a post-canon cardassia garashir fic BUT it is wholly made up of primary sources and secondary sources discussing garashir in later cardassian society because in present canon cardassia is like homophobic so their relationship was kept verrrrry private, so a lot of historians in the future debate over whether garak and bashir were together or not. ambiguity and all that. im a history major. all the secondary sources are post-post-canon when cardassia is like. more socially liberal about certain things, where the writers are reflecting on that period of cardassian history. anyway these are the sections i have written / planned so far

bashir's will that asks for certain documents to be preserved “for the sake of historical preservation, so that future generations may know Elim not just as a patriotic statesman but as a warm and loving man.” <-- homo

a book on present-canon cardassian homophobia, going into the social history. this section got really long because i talked about trans cardassians navigating around homophobia a lot. bc the homophobia is from a place of “you have to have children” but like (binary) trans ppl are okay so like those people who marry in ways that don’t appear childbearing tended to have children really quick to escape that. but yeah i still need to finish this bit bc i need to actually talk about the homophobia not just the trans people

list of cardassian homophobic slurs. yeah lmao i know. we have fun here. one of the ones for “lesbians” is “friend of sapohi” because i couldn’t resist making up lizard alien sappho

first physical letter garak sends bashir post-canon when there’s power shortages and bashir is stationed a long way away. they’re not together yet. sort of an introduction. these letters are one of the only personal documents garak left behind bc he’s paranoid and very private

a federation relief worker’s notes on a briefing about power rationing, which is some further explanation about why the fuck star trek people would be writing letters on paper instead of their weird ipads

second letter garak sends bashir. idk what’s gonna be in that yet but i do know garak says “your doodle of me was charming but inaccurate”. just one side of the conversation bc bashir kept his letters from garak while garak read the letters bashir sent him, memorized them, and destroyed them for security reasons.

record request emails from a cardassian history graduate student to a federation archivist asking for access to any messages from the o’briens about bashir but oh no :( the o’briens only marked for archival some videos of their grandkids :( and also a video of a random cardassian kid from bashir? weird. this one was really fun

one of the last messages bashir sent o’brien through starfleet comms that’s like right before he leaves for cardassia. nothing Concrete but definitely Hmmm-able

an excerpt from a book about the history of offworlders on cardassia, which includes a letter from one of garak’s political opponents as an example of reactionary xenophobia. basically it’s just a letter where this dude is very rude and homophobic about bashir. but it’s fine because he uses fake homophobia

political cartoon where bashir is portrayed as a seducer trying to get cardassia to assimilate into the federation. meant to be kind of funny imo. might commission karin to draw it for me. i think bashir tried to frame it in their house but garak like super hated it but idk if i can squeeze that in

transcript of an interview bashir gave on his views on cardassian politics, trying to be like “haha im just here to be a doctor, im not trying to be a spy or anything, but yeah i do agree with the people who like social programs and the rights of the disadvantaged etc etc”

an excerpt from a speech parmak gives like a decade after that after a piece of orphan rights legislation got passed that thanks bashir for the consultation and support. heheh

third letter from garak to bashir. probably like. subtly indicates that their relationship is on the verge of romantic. the last letter

a negative book review of a book that argues that garak and bashir were together. the review is just like “terrans are just Like That!!” plus some other stuff like “they lived together bc nobody would rent a house to an offworlder in this era!!” and stuff like that. im looking forward to writing this

the entries on garak and bashir from a children’s book on cardassian heroes. very saccharine and glossy and patriotic. bashir especially is like “once he stepped foot on cardassian soil he knew he loved this land” etc etc. amusingly inaccurate

the speech of one of garashir’s grandchildren (they take in some wards - non-blood related adoption is formally recognized on cardassia after the wards are of age) while accepting some medical award that thanks her grandfather elim garak for the support and her beloved elder julian bashir for his advice and support

a foreword from a book of poetry written by one of their GREAT-grandchildren who thanks his grandfather for the love of literature passed down to him. because Oh You Know

idk where this will go but cardassians discussing a federation documentary about The Heroes Of The Dominion War that says “oh yeah bashir went on to become the first naturalized citizen of cardassia. elim garak became an important figure in the new cardassian government. they were common law married” and the cardassians being like THEY REALLY SAID THAT? and some cardassians being mad and some cardassians being like Someone’s Fucking Saying It Finally!

still thinking of other sections that go a bit more into their children/married life. maybe also some other incidents. the thing about this is it’s such a fun little exercise to think of different ways to angle into this relationship and this society through surviving primary sources and variations on secondary sources. it’s a puzzle though because i want a lot of differentiation

im thinking ill conclude it with like their great great grandchild releasing some documents from them that confirm their relationships that were meant to published like a couple centuries later when hopefully cardassia was more accepting. because i want gay people to get the last laugh and assert their places in history and regain control over how society sees them. yk

If you could adapt Frankenstein into a video game, what type of game would that be?

ok ive mulled this over for a long time, and tbh am having a bit of trouble answering!! so uh. long ramble ahead, you have been warned

my first thought was to say a visual novel type game? dating sim like. but not to actually date, obviously. actually- there might be no romance at all, save for some subtext.

but my reason for this is because if you tear away the showy parts of frankenstein that movies like to grab on to, like the reanimation, or the creature, its really a story about relationships. victor’s relationship with his family, which he really doesnt take care of. his close relationship with henry, his bad relationship with Adam. Adam’s own desires to have a family of his own- most conflict comes from this!!

for the actually plot, though? im having trouble with it. i mean- yes, theres the book to go off of, but i dont know how much it would be allowed to change based on your choices. where would we even start? what about walton???

OK SO. after a 10 minute recess where i laid face down on my bed, ive sorted out my thoughts

kinda visual novel, kinda not. i dont know how to explain it, i might doodle it out. heavily stylized, 2d, maybe grayscale? we start with a small cutscene of walton, and then we get into the story. the boring background info about his family might be a cutscene or just cut out altogether.

our pov swaps from first person victor to like,, third person(?) depending on the context. we officially start as victor in college, and the first stages of the game are kinda just little “quests,” going around and meeting his teachers, etc. just set up. then etc etc we get to him discovering how to create life, and now the quests have gradually changed from “go to m krempes class” to “break into a graveyard” or “collect multiple specimens of hearts” and the likes.

the mechanics vary depending on the pov? when its third person and more traditional video game esq, the controls are basic. wasd or the arrow keys to move, etc etc to toggle or talk or perform an action. while in third person its much more finnicky, you’ll probably need your mouse to look around- oh, id say this is a desktop game. unless..? i dunno, i just think it needs the versatility of a keyboard and mouse as opposed to a controller. but anyways, the controls in first person would be a little bit different. first person in general would be limited to specific areas of the game

id say that it is a story driven game. but youre not locked into the set storyline. depending on your actions and how you interact with other characters, you could change it for better or for worse.

WHAT? You dropped TG? Right when one of the recent chapters had an Urie/Saiko moment??? (like dude I totally understand your frustration but just, if you’re going to drop TG drop it after you read that scene- Saiko basically acknowledges that the CCG has turned into a slaughterhouse and she doesn’t want to be a part of it anymore (she says that if push comes to shove, she’ll become a terrorist and leave the CCG). Urie acts like he’s still a coldhearted jerk who only cares about the job and Saiko gets mad at him before running out of the house.

Urie goes to find her and they sit on swings at a playground together, apologizing and talking things over. Urie eventually says that if things don’t work out, they’ll just become terrorists (an echo of Saiko’s earlier words) and Saiko gives this really cute smile it’s just ughhh <3333)

OH Food Wars! I’ve heard of it ^^ I don’t like Echhi so I probably won’t watch it though (anime fanservice in general is something I don’t really like. Like, if it’s meant to be a pure fanservice series then that’s fine, I probably wouldn’t watch something like that in the first place- but when an anime/manga with a decent plot and interesting concepts decides to go and ruin all that with awkward panty shots and weird anatomy that’s just. not my thing lol).

Tatsuo is definitely a glorious bastard.

(I’m doodling him and Naomi a lot nowadays and no matter how I draw them you could never tell that they’re siblings. Naomi just looks like a sweet, average girl and Tatsuo looks like the lovechild of Greedling and Kimblee.

Yep, I’m on volume two now (or was it three?) and it’s darker than it looks…it’s fun, though! I started it for Hisoka but I’m liking the main characters way more than I thought I would. Gon and Leorio are probably my favorites (Gon=the MC, sweet little boy with amazing instincts. Leorio=one of Gon’s friends, pretends that he wants to become a ‘Hunter’ just for the money but it actually goes deeper than that: his friend was ill but Leorio didn’t have enough money to pay for his treatment and the friend died. Then Leorio decided to become a doctor so he could help people like his friend, but he realized that he needed even MORE money to complete all the necessary studying/training to become a doctor. That’s his real reason for wanting to become rich.).

I just finished Volume 26 of the manga! Only one more volume to go 0.0

Yeah, I know I should appreciate how hard mangakas work to draw/write these mangas, but I did feel the tiniest bit disappointed…we waited a month for this. But maybe it’s because there are actually a lot of 'casual’ fans who don’t know about the 2CT and Yana need to confirm it (also Yana actually might not know how popular the 2CT is? And someone who doesn’t know the 2CT could totally think that Real Ciel is a clone or something).

The one new-ish thing that I learned from this chapter is that it’s getting harder to trust Tanaka XD

But yeah, the art improvement is amazing! Kuro had great detail from the very first chapter but now, I could just stare at some of the panels for hours.

True, true, if you used a transmutation circle like Roy’s glove to change the concentration of the air around the target, you could make it quite lethal. 

I can see him stumbling on to you playing the piano at some point and just staying silent, because he knows how easily nervous you get and he honestly loves how peaceful you are at that moment. Probably makes a subtle comment later, so he doesn’t fluster you too much.  And then a certain water alchemist comes and starts blabbering about random gibberish, coaxing you out of your shell and he happens to come into the room (totally not because someone told him to come) and is like ????? because at this point he was convinced you’re shy around everyone. From that day on, he makes it a point to try and get close to you.

Mei is adorable! Her perception of Ed in the beginning is one of the best parts of the whole show. Just, wow.

Mm, probably. I still feel a bit disappointed =3= Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait until the next chapter.  And I’m definitely more weary of Tanaka now.  But I honestly hate how RC is treating OC like a child. It’s infuriating, since OC has shown over and over that he’s capable of handling things on his own (also we need their names, now. Please. I’m tired of calling them RC and OC)
