Home review 2 when? The first one is incredible

In all honesty, I don't wanna say that there will never be another Home/Asmundr review video because you never know! I might come back to it one day

The problem is however that the video I already made is EXTREMELY outdated when it comes to the critique and some of the takes I make in it, quite a few of these make me cringe terribly. Like. What the fuck was even that. So I'd need to be redone from scratch.

Another thing is that, yeah, I could completely rework it, write a new script, make a new one with my current mindset, bla bla bla. Problem is that the amount of content I'd need to cover has now doubled and the amount of drama attached to it has trippled. Back at the time I was critiquing it, the comic barely breached 500 pages. Now there's over 900 of them and my god, if I thought the comic was bad before, it's nothing compared to what it is now. The bar is so low that's it's literally buried in hell.

Even if I only focused on the comic itself and never mentioned any Kique drama nor touched upon any of his QnAs or Patre0n exclusive takes (e.i. that Ranach has NPD) it'd still be hours long. Like. Several hours. We're talking CrimsonRogue kind of long

The last video took six weeks to make. Granted a lot of it was bacause I was figuring out the app I used to make it and creating visuals for it was difficult because. Well. Windows Movie Maker isn't exactly top-notch editing software, but the fact remains it took me a lot of time. In 2019, I was freshly moved to the UK and still unemployed, so I had time for that kind of thing. Now I don't anymore, much to my dismay, and I like to reserve the time I do have for my friends and my own art and stories

But never say never, I suppose! I also never thought I'd come back to this cesspool of a doggy comic, yet here I am once more! Who knows. Maybe in 2030 I'll cough up another one

Just Around the Corner...

I've been waiting to say this for a very, very long time:

1.1.12 is almost here.

...Kinda. It's nearly ready for playtesting. I've got one last feature to smooth over and then it'll go out to the testers for feedback. Once the testers are happy with it (and I'm happy with what the testers are happy with), then we'll test multiplayer for a bit - and then it's time for full release.

It's been a looooooong time since NSSS last got a major update - September of 2021, to be exact. Sure, there have been tweaks and patches since then, but even then it's been over a year since 1.1.11_111-1. NSSS has been at version 1.1.11 for three years now - about half as long as NSSS has existed, period.

I'd like to think of 1.1.12 as the beginning of a return to form - wayyy back when NSSS first started, Vulpovile and I were releasing updates once every two weeks. I doubt I can maintain that pace, but at the very least I can avoid any more multi-year update droughts.

I've already got ideas lined up for 1.1.13, 1.1.14, 1.1.15, etc... - many of which I've been daydreaming about for years! I really want to finally sit down and work on these ideas, and make them reality once and for all.

There's a couple other things I'm hoping to polish up. First off - the website. I put it up a few months ago but it's been sitting semi-finished for a while now. The other day I finally dug up my FTP login credentials to actually upload the NSSS multimc instance and server jar there so I could fix the broken download links in the original forum post. Sorry for letting them sit broken for so long - I was very busy with IRL work. I'm going to be fleshing the website out a bit more soon - maybe I'll even get the in-browser applet working!

The launcher is also getting renewed attention. I figured out Oauth a while ago (so you can actually log in to microsoft accounts with it - yippee!) but was struggling to deal with https connections in older versions of Java. I think I've figured out a solution that's workable, so the launcher should finally be ready soon - here's hoping!

Lastly, the forums. Yes, there are official NSSS forums - but the URL has been somewhat hidden for a while now. I've been having trouble getting the phpBB theming to look the way I like it - if anyone has any experience with phpBB themes, please reach out! The increasing futility of trying to present information on discord has made it clear to me that it's for the best if most NSSS-related discussion were to happen on an actual public-facing website rather than a glorified IRC chatroom. The discord will still exist - but it will no longer be forced to do the triple-duty of "information repository", "public forum", and "community chat".

Let's see how much of this I can get done before 2030...

Plane Crash AU - this is more of a concept than a WIP, but it's been bouncing around in my brain for years now and it won't quite die. The biggest obstacle is that I haven't figured out a central plot for it yet 🤣

Basically, it was inspired by my first playthrough of Endless Summer on Choices, and I also watched LOST back in the day, so I'd love to see something along either of those lines (maybe without the time travel though, and the whole purgatory/end of the world stuff).

This was even before S6, so Roberto wasn't a character yet, but he'd obviously be perfect as the pilot (and a potential love interest, of course).

Anyway. There would be multiple potential love interests, and I'd love to write it without a clear idea in my head of who the endgame would be (I mean, we all know it would probably be Henrik, but...).

As a bonus, I've included some of my cast ideas under the cut!

MC - possibly a fugitive/ex-con (the Kate role from LOST)

Bobby - former punk rock band member who still clings to that persona (until he finally admits he's been working as a hospital caterer)

Roberto - pilot, obviously. potential LI

Henrik - the one who knows what he's doing, immediately starts hunting/foraging and everyone relies on for food. potential LI

Lucas - thrust into the 'doctor' role even though he insists he's just a physiotherapist. potential LI (also might be a potential LI for Henrik)

Jakub - wants to hunt, doesn't actually know what he's doing

Rocco - sits on the beach meditating, doing yoga, etc. just waiting to be rescued (Francis would fit here as well but Rocco would be a little more useless)

Blake - flight attendant. kinda looks like MC

Hope - wants to take charge but doesn't actually know what to do in this particular situation

Hannah - useless. first to die

Gary - Hannah's husband

Carl - wants to find the black box and salvage the radio

Graham - fishes, wants to build a raft

Kassam - basically Hurley with the CD player. keeps to himself

Felix - second to die

Jake - chef. potential LI

sirius grins. there's a wild edge to the youngest polat that puts him in mind of lila, unfettered; in happier times, when she'd dance around the common room in her socks with a bottle in her hand and a laugh on her lips. maybe that's where the easy familiarity comes from. it's at once like meeting someone new and reconnecting with an old friend — someone he hasn't seen in a long, long time.

" that's big talk, polat. but if you think you’re up to the task then by all means, " he makes a sweeping gesture, gently taking the firewhisky from her outstretched hand and swigging it straight from the bottle. it burns the back of his throat, and he sighs, content, tipping his head back and basking in the feel of it — the confirmation that he is, against all odds, alive.

" i'll figure something out. this place always gave me the willies, anyway. i'm half-convinced my mum's going to materialise and rip me a new arsehole for daring to darken her doorstep.
