there's a pile of books, fiction and non-fiction alike, piled on my desk and bookshelves that I really need to get to, not to mention the absolute hell that these coming 2 months are going to be school-and-work-wise, but I really really want to go back and re-read the alexander trilogy (especially fire from heaven)

there's something incredibly fable-like to renault's writing in that novel and her depiction of the events and characters that I really vibe with and struggle putting into words

#litchi.txt #hell i have a copy of the mask of apollo back in slovakia waiting for me #i got that book years ago when i first moved to the cz i believe and i have yet to read it #not to mention the other alexander-centric novels that I wanted to read #but theres something that really draws me to fire from heaven in particular #maybe because its such a soft dreamlike borderline hopeful thing?#its hard to read the persian boy sometimes due to bagoas being present for all of the (arguably) worst parts of alexanders life #not to mention that the sentence 'we will soon see the seven walls of ecbatana' makes me physically ill #but fire from heaven?#it just feels different #like staying up until sunrise in early summer and reading in the kitchen in the early light #or like playing oblivion and getting lost in the wilderness as peace of akatosh plays #(thats... certainly a metaphor)#but yeah that book just makes me feel things #i love that it balances between historical fiction and fable
