I like to think Rollo speaks with an French accent, but it's different from Rook's. Rook's is a deep accent added to with the flair and his deeper voice and Rollo as a softer one to atone with his softer voice. Rollo tries to hide his, but it defiantly comes out the more passionate he gets and it's so smooth and sweet sounding and HAAAAAAAAAAAA

I've already seen people claiming Kimi Antonelli "isn't a nepo baby like Max is" and actually, no, he's probably a bigger nepo baby than Max.

His dad is Marco Antonelli who mainly races in GT series, but who also started his own team in 1993 called Antonelli Motorsport (now AKM Motorsport). He comes from a motorsports family who have both the wealth and resources to afford him multiple opportunities that other drivers his age will have struggled to obtain, but his dad is also best friends with Toto Wolff.

Yes, he quite clearly has shown he has talent at lower formulas, but its important to remember the ways both his wealth and connections have assisted in him achieving that. He comes from extreme privilege.

So I introduced my brother to f1 (yes, the same brother who's got a teacher called verstappen) and here are some of his first impressions and reactions :

^ he keeps making football comparisons. I know nothing about football so I'm not much help.

He's got a personal beef with Checo. I might be the cause of it, but the fact that his first race was Canada might play into it

He started getting a lot of f1 videos on his ig fyp, and he seems to like "the Japanese guy who want to open a restaurant"

Similarly, he roots for "Charles' teammate who looks like a funny guy"

He also claimed Carlos as one of ours because he looks like he's from our ethnicity according to him (he is not, btw. we are barely even European??)

On the same topic he seems to be sad about the separation of charlos next year ( "how could they separate this duo??")

Realized that Max was an unfair comparison to other drivers because of how good he is

I think the reason Charles never refers to Hawkeye by his name is because it’s a nickname, because he’ll call BJ, Margaret, and Klinger by their names without issue, and I could write up an entire post about Charles’ approach to names and nicknames and I might come back and do that tomorrow when it’s not so late

For now I just want to make the point that there’s a scenario in my head where Charles tried one (1) time to call Hawkeye Benjamin in casual conversation and the entire conversation ground to a halt because they both got incredibly uncomfortable about it because it sounded so WRONG and they agreed to never talk about it again

Once again screaming wailing gnashing my teeth over the lost and ignored themes of distrust, worthlessness, ambition, and loyalty in Son Jin Woo.

Like!! This is a man who explicitly says he learned to never trust other people because they always turn on him and betray him eventually, and raises soldiers from the dead with the explicit feeling that they're desperately reaching out to him, specifically, to save them from death. He surrounds himself with an army of fanatically loyal undead, and it's mentioned a few times that he's just as fanatically loyal to them in return, that he mourns every single one, and it's purely his own willpower that lets him reanimate them, that how much he wants them to be his is what gives him the power to raise them.

He's quiet and ruthless and set up to be a remorseless killer who doesn't give a damn about anyone but those he decides to love, who follows and surveils his loved ones at all times so he knows they're safe, who uses people without pause and doesn't care what people think about him. He loves fighting and gets a thrill from every time he gains power, says explicitly that as he levels up he feels more and more divorced from humanity, and only relies on his shadow army! He's a villain-coded figure in the role of hero and it's!! so cool!!!

And yet the narrative takes all these interesting bits and just. never addresses them. There's no consequence of Jin Woo feeling any of this. The whole series devolves into bland power fantasy/Gary Stu ridiculousness where the whole world can be divided into Good Guys Who Love the Protagonist and Bad Guys Who Hate/Are Jealous of the Protagonist. What a waste. We could have had it aaaaaall.

I feel like red bull’s insane 2023 season really skewed people’s perspective on what “having the fastest car” means.

It was bizarre for red bull to lose a single race last year, because they didn’t just have the fastest car on the grid. They had the fastest car imaginable. They were so far removed from the competition that they couldn’t not win.

But McLaren having the fastest can rn isn’t the same.

It’s fast enough to win, all else equal. But F1 isn’t ‘all else equal’. Driver error, strategic calls, track configuration, weather, tyre management — it all matters.

“Well they have the fastest car, so—“ NO actually, there is no definitive so! Nothing is guaranteed in a normal season, slower cars have always managed to beat faster cars! That’s the entire point! 2023 Red Bull was a literally insane outlier!!!
