In light of Cards Against Humanity being in the news again, I vaguely remembered some stuff about co-founder Max Temkin (who no longer works at the company) being a dickbag. He was, at best, a shitty white douchebag who created a hostile work environment and at worst a possible rapist. The linked Polygon article goes into detail about the office environment and alleged rape (attendant content warnings apply).
It sounds like a great deal of effort was put into coddling Temkin's ego the way people were told not to bring up the rape allegation and to tread carefully regarding criticism despite supposedly valuing input from BIPOC staff. (And to nobody's surprise, the HR department in a small company founded by eight white guys was a fucking joke.)
To be clear, I have no idea what it's like to work there now or if/how CaH has cleaned up its act. I also have no idea if Temkin has actually reflected on this experience. But the "buy land to stop the wall" stunt absolutely stems from Temkin's time at the company and I think people should be aware of the gap between company culture and values.

if you want to truly be radicalized against the psychology/therapy industry and in particular how it's just another weapon for capitalism to use against workers, i recommend reading about the time that Cards Against Humanity had a black employee put in a mental institution for complaining about the company's racism. therapy is far from a neutral entity and much of the time, bigotry is endemic and an intrinsic part of the industry

Cal Bears Take Down #1 Stanford In Big Splash Thriller
LaGrange, Casabella Electrify In Dramatic Late Victory
BERKELEY – Playing in front of a packed Spieker Aquatics Complex crowd this weekend, the No. 9 California men's water polo team came away with a dramatic late-game victory, scoring three unanswered goals in the final minutes to claim a 13-11 win over archrival No. 1 Stanford and get revenge for a tough close loss to the Cardinal last month.
Max Casabella scored a go-ahead goal on a power play with 27 seconds left – his fifth of the day – and the Golden Bears (11-7, 1-2 MPSF) got one last crucial stop on the Cardinal's (14-2, 2-1) next possession to clinch their first win of the season over a top-five team.
Starting for the third straight game, redshirt sophomore Max LaGrange put together an electric performance in front of the cage for all four quarters, racking up a career-best 10 saves.
"We played for each other today," LaGrange said. "The defense was on it, the offense was special towards the end, firing away. It was a great day."
With the Bears trailing by two late in the third, LaGrange caught Stanford's defense sleeping with an incredible length-of-the-pool goal, sending the Bear faithful into a frenzy and cutting Stanford's lead to 10-9 heading into the final frame.
"It feels absolutely insane getting the opportunity to play in this lovely place," said LaGrange. "I love firing up the crowd. It's what I do."
William Kelly fed Casabella for an equalizer on Cal's first possession of the fourth quarter, but the Cardinal regained the lead with 4:33 to go. Two minutes later, the Bears worked it around until Jake Howerton squeezed one past Stanford's defense to tie it 11-11.
A big steal by Ryder Hagan was quickly followed by a Cardinal exclusion with 54 seconds remaining, leading to a timeout and Casabella's subsequent winner. After Stanford's game-tying attempt went off the post, Nik Mirkovic found William Kelly all alone for an empty-net goal with four seconds left to seal the deal.
Casabella notched his first goal of the day on a highlight shot-clock buzzer beater from near the middle of the pool, giving Cal a 1-0 lead in the first. Stanford responded with a 3-0 run and the Bears played catch up over the next two quarters, staying within striking distance behind six big first-half saves by LaGrange.
Momentum shifted in the third as the Bears struck with back-to-back goals from Casabella and Albert Ponferrada on their first two possessions to tie it 7-7. Bende Pardi added his loan goal of the day to give Cal an 8-7 edge midway through the period.
It was the second straight five-goal game for Casabella and his team-leading third of the season. Ponferrada finished with two goals and four assists. Center George Avakian drew four exclusions.
No. 9 California 13, No. 1 Stanford 11 Cal 2 3 4 4 – 13 Stan 3 4 3 1 – 11 Cal Goals: Casabella 5, Ponferrada 2, LaGrange, Howerton, Oprea, Mirkovic, Pardi, Kelly Stan Goals: Jensen 7, Pittman, Gheorghe, Balogh, Painter Cal Saves: Max LaGrange 10 Stan Saves: West Temkin 10

Hey, why is nobody talking about this?
Article highlights:
(Note: For those who aren't aware of the story, CAH management later had this same guy committed to a mental institution after he spoke out against workplace racism. You seriously can't make this stuff up.)
(Note: This same employee later said in a twitter thread that she was also asked to stop dating somebody because Temkin's friend had a crush on them.)

And a piece by the guy involved
I keep seeing posts about CAH doing some mildly nuisance thing to Elon Musk, but like, they did this too.

As Lilith Bell notes in her dissection of Temkin’s story,
Max Temkin is very good at using social justice language. He’s very good at making himself seem sympathetic and reasonable. Rapists are perfectly capable of doing all of those things. They aren’t non-human monsters that leap out of closets, with no awareness of society or communication skills. They’re people, like any one of us. They can be intelligent. They can be involved in social justice. They can create awesome games. They can come across as reasonable, kind people. They can, in fact, be reasonable and kind people in every way except for that pesky raping thing.
Is Max Temkin a rapist? I don’t know. I do know that he’s written a manipulative post, though. I know that he’s spreading harmful rape culture myths under the cloak of being a “feminist and an advocate for women’s rights.” I know that he’s using intimidation tactics against someone who, because of his platform and wealth and gender, has far less power than he does.
Never forget

Review - Secret Hitler
Guns down, eyes up. Trust no one, suspect everyone. Hope in your president and debate over your new chancellor. The fate of your nation, nay the world, is in the hands of us all in the Reichstag. Liberals must weed out the hidden fascists and at all costs prevent Hitler, whoever that this, becoming chancellor. Politics has never been more personal. This is Secret Hitler made by Breaking Games and published by Blackbox.
Ever wanted to mix things up at the party or just want to break the ice by turning everyone against each other? Well, this is the game for you. Involving between five and ten players each being assigned a secret role either a Liberal or a Fascist, with one unlucky player also becoming Hitler.
As the game’s name suggests Hitler must do their best to stay hidden working together with other Fascists to achieve a total of six Fascist policies into government while the Liberal side attempt to do the opposite with five liberal policies. Policies are chosen through the process of the president taking three random Policy cards from the deck, discarding of one and passing the remaining two to their chancellor who selects the final card that will be put into government. The president is a role that simply passes from one player to the next by order of clockwise seating, the chancellor, however, is selected by the president and voted by all using either their “Ja!” or “Nein!” cards. With the Fascists gaining policies they also gain bonus’ in the form of assassinations, where the president must choose a player to remove from the game.
Simple in its concept however discovering who of your friends is now potentially one of the most dangerous men in Europe is harder than you think. Each game can last between thirty minutes to an hour, depending on how silvered the tongues of you and your friends are. Retail price going from £17-£40 depending on which edition you choose to get, with the rare wooden box edition being higher at times, all in my opinion, worth it. In addition to this, on their website secrethitler.com they do also give the option to download for free a printable version of the game. From personal experience, nothing better than having your seventy-eight-year-old grandmother jump with joy after assassinating your brother and defeating Hitler. A most wonderful game, simple yet superb, a definite must-buy game.

I like how I just now thought of a decent question for Pat and Max (that isn't related to Kingkiller) 3 hours after the number has been disconnected.
(Honestly though I probably wouldn't have been able to speak had I tried to call)

Max Temkin vowed on Twitter that if the anti-net neutrality bill was passed that he would personally buy the private browsing history of each and every Congress person and Congressional aide who voted for the bill and publish it online for the entire world to see. You know, so they would know what it feels like to have their personal data auctioned off like that.

About Storytelling
Max: You know from the set-up, from the initial set-up of the series that Kvothe is alive. He's troubled but he's alive. So whenever he's in mortal peril it lets some of the air out of that tension because you know he makes it through. And it's an amazing feed of storytelling how much your pulse still races because you've given him this very specific fears of his hands being damaged, his very few prized possessions being taken from him...
Pat: And that's the conventional thought process. And honestly, you know, a lot of writer go into it, too. It's like you need to threaten somebody's life or else... But here is the thing and it's very sensible: it seems very reasonable, but if the only, if the best tension, came from fear of the protagonist's death nobody would ever read a book twice. [...] There are so many other ways. It's harder and one of the things I'm most proud of. It's easier to kill somebody and break your heart as the reader. But it's like I will break your heart because somebody's shirt got ruined. [...] What breaks your heart is that there is this boy, who wants nothing more than to get in the Archives for his whole life and he can't. It's like I will break your heart over a fucking library card.

Troll level: master
Max Temkin, creator of Cards against Humanity, is pushing back against Congress’ new internet ‘privacy’ bill by using his wealth to buy up the browsing history of every member of Congress who voted for the bill. It’s not available yet but he is working on it.
Bet they never thought of that when they voted to allow ISP to sell your data.
