The movie rental closed at 10. So, there you were, sitting on the floor, door key on your thigh as you moved the dog Monopoly piece. You glanced at Robin who played with a piece of her hair before picking up the dice and shaking them in her hand before rolling it. You glanced at the clock on the wall, sighing at the time. 9:50 PM it said.

“Shit,” Robin murmured and moved the top hat to the “jail” spot.

“How did you do that?” You asked with a soft laugh, smiling at her as she raised her eyebrows.

“Rolled doubles 3 times.” She answered with a sigh and you hummed.

You took the dice, rolling again as the small bell above the door rang. Robin sighed and stood, leaving from behind one of the rows of movies. You continued your move as you heard Robin speaking. You looked over your shoulder and raised your eyebrows, taking the key and getting up from where you sat when she didn’t come back after a moment.

You walked from around the row of movies, touching the rows with your fingertips as you walked towards the front of the store. You were surprised to see Steve and his crew of kids, excluding Eleven and Mike. Maybe they went on a date or something.

You smiled at Steve, going to stand over by Robin. You rested your head on her shoulder as Steve and Robin spoke. You watched all of the kids did their own thing. Max and Lucas were laughing around about something he said, their hands interlocked. She seemed happy for the first time in a while and you felt joy for her. She deserved to be happy after everything that happened.

Dustin and Will looked at the Sci-Fi movies that were in the front of the story on display. They pulled them out and read the backs of them before judging if they would be good or not, before putting it back. They both looked good, happy, but you knew that Will was feeling some sort of way. He always did after being taken over by the Mind Flayer. You couldn’t understand that pain, but you tried anytime he needed you.

You attention went back to Lucas and Max as they began to walk off. You followed them with your eyes.

“Don’t go and make out behind the movies.” You said as they walked past you. “It’s nasty.”

Max’s face blushed and Lucas gave you a soft smile and a thumbs up as he pulled Max away and into the rows upon rows. You couldn’t help but lift your head from Robin’s shoulder, kissing her cheek before flipping the key in-between your fingers for a moment before going to the door and locking it.

You could see some of the people walking up and down the streets, a soft sigh leaving your lips as you remembered the Star Court Mall. Remembered the chills that ran up your spine when you finally saw Robin again. The breathless cry for Eleven’s name when Billy, complete in the Flayer, holding her down. You could still feel Max trying to pull out of your arms as she yelled for Billy, you could remember in vided colors of his death. What it looked like and how you felt.

You remembered.

You felt a tap on your shoulder, your eyes blinking a few times as a way to bring yourself back. Your eyebrows fell into a small knit as you looked over your shoulder and at the boy behind you. You smiled at Will and turned all the way around.

“Are you okay?” He asked and you nodded quickly. His eyebrows raised a bit and he nodded. “Okay,” he whispered.

You sat your hand on his shoulder before wrapping your arm around him and bringing him into a side hug.

“How have you been?” You asked and Will shrugged.

“Good,” he hummed out. “I’ve been hanging out with Dustin and Steve a lot, which is really nice.” He explained and you nodded again.

“Any nightmares or anything?” You asked and he shook his head.

“You?”

You smiled down at him and took a deep breath.

“Don’t worry about me.” You replied and he huffed out a sigh. “I’m fine.” You lied and Will looked at you and shook his head.

“Are you sure?” He asked and you nodded quickly, bringing him back to Dustin. Dustin was still looking at the movies, making faces at the movies before putting them back up. You removed your arm from Will as you thought about it.

You weren’t sure. You had nightmares some nights, others you were awake all night and couldn’t sleep until the sun raised over the horizon, but as soon as your eyes closed you would jolt awake from the thought of the Mind Flayer. You could feel the coldness of the night touch your skin when it arrived, the fear that ran through your veins when the boys started throwing the fireworks into the thing. You remembered Max. Billy. El. You could still feel the summer air and the heavy weight of El’s head on your shoulder as she waited for Hopper outside but was quickly disappointed when he didn’t walk out. You remembered everything.

“Fine,” you nodded with a smile. Will sighed and moved from under your arm. He waved at you as you watched him go back over to Dustin and get back into the groove of what they were doing before.

You walked back over to where Steve and Robin stood, wrapping your arm around Robins' waist and pressing your face into the nape of her neck. She giggled and brought one of her hands back, touching your hair and you sighed as you closed your eyes.

“Do you want to go hang out at Steve’s, babe?” Robin asked and you shrugged. “The kids will be there but we can just have a movie and game night, right Steve?” She asked and nodded at Steve as you moved your head slightly to look at him.

He nodded quickly. “I’ll just have to rent a movie and wrangle the kids.”

You sighed and thought about it before nodding. You kissed the side of Robin’s neck and Steve gagged before turning around and walking towards the movie section.

Robin turned around and looked at you, a soft smile on her lips. She knew something was wrong. She always knew. Her hand rested on your cheek and you closed your eyes and leaned into it.

“You good?” She asked and you nodded again. Robin sighed and kissed you on your nose before kissing your lips softly. Your hands went to the hand that laid on your cheek before you pulled away.

“Everything’s good.” You verbally confirmed and she nodded, unsure if she should believe you. Steve came up from behind you, setting the few movies on the check out counter. Robin sighed and went behind the counter to check him out. You walked back to where you and Robin were once playing Monopoly, packing it up and into the box. You walked it to the break room, setting it on the table before putting the key on the hook.

You walked back, going a different way than before. You looked between the shelves, seeing Max and Lucas looking at a VHS as they laughed at the back of it.

“We’re leaving,” you said and interrupted their moment.

Max jumped slightly and looked over at you.

“Okay,” she said and put the VHS back as you walked away. Robin was standing beside Steve, near the door. Robin wrapped her arm around your waist as the kids all neared the three of you.

“Alright,” Steve said. “Let’s go.” He said and walked outside the glass doors. Everyone followed suit. You and Robin were the last ones out as you both turned off the lights. You pulled your keys out of your pocket, unlocking your car as you looked over at Robin.

“Let’s go.” You hummed and walked out the door.
