Okay, so a lot has happened now, and before we dig into the meat of any any of it, I want to mentally kick myself in the shin for this part of my last Ravensong post.
Too much tension, get a room. Dale can live his adorable life in blissful ignorance. It will be better for everyone.
In the nicest way possible:
Fuck Dale
But I digress. I have feelings and opinions here!
I'm reminded quite a bit of the fourth book in Michael Grant's Gone series, Plague. Where there's an incredible infectious outbreak which is vital to the story, but not key to it, except in that it's necessary for any of the key factions' decisions to make any sense for there to be a horrible, unforeseen plague to be happening parallel to complex societal issues. Fun fact: before deciding on Ravensong, I had actually started to read Michael Crichton's Andromeda Strain, so it seems I was getting a hideous infected subplot no matter what.
So last time, we had ended with a very not-at-all-a-fantasy scene of Mark and Gordo having so much tension that Joseph Gordon-Levitt could walk between the Two Towers with it. Following this is the reveal of Beta Bitch Michelle's plot to take down the Bennett family under the guise of staving off an infection that's causing Wolves to go feral.
I want to address that finally, finally, FINALLY, Mark and Gordo have actually started talking! For fuck's sake, and the sake of all fucks possible to be given, these two idiots have started talking about their problems. I'm pretty sure Gordo has a vore fetish, seeing as his internal monolog was starting to sound like Louis the Red Deer. Not important. Step two: couple's therapy. If Book Three isn't spent with these two sitting on a couch like Brangelina in Mr and Mrs Smith, I riot.
I'm becoming increasingly convinced that Carter will not make it to the end and this is kind of a problem because I do not want to think about what that will do to my precious baby, Kelly. Sure, Robbie can smooth in and help him process his feelings in a (re)productive manner, but I do not need their relationship being borne on the back of Carter's death. So come on, big guy. Let's stop trying to go Omega. My happiness will not uphold to your death.
I adore how just incredibly done every single human is with these Wolves and their pack shenanigans. They can't get enough of them, but they are all so incredibly done with them.
