Discovering Your Perfect Match: Tips for
Choosing a Fashion Photographer in NYC
Starting Your Search
In the fashion capital of the world, finding a photographer who aligns perfectly with your brand’s vision isn’t just about luck; it's about strategy and insight. Whether you’re launching a new collection or revamping your brand’s image, the right New York City photographer can make all the difference.
Define Your Style and Vision
The first step is to clearly outline what you envision for your photoshoot. Are you looking for an edgy urban aesthetic or a classic elegance? Understanding your own needs will guide you in selecting a photographer whose artistic style matches your brand’s personality. For example, a luxury jewelry brand might seek a photographer who excels in capturing the intricate details and luxury feel, perhaps through a portfolio featuring close-up shots of exquisite pieces against the city's architectural backdrop.
Scrutinize Portfolios
A photographer’s portfolio is your window into their world. Evaluate their work for diversity, attention to detail, and storytelling ability. Look for photographers who not only have technical prowess but also a clear style that resonates with your brand. Consider a scenario where a fashion startup specializing in streetwear collaborates with a photographer known for their vibrant, street-style portraits, effectively capturing the essence of the brand’s youthful and bold designs.
Leverage Social Media and Networks
Social media platforms offer a live portfolio of a photographer’s most recent work and client interactions. Instagram, particularly, is rich with insights into a photographer's ongoing projects and style evolution. Additionally, tapping into your network for recommendations can lead to discovering photographers who have proven their ability to deliver outstanding results.
The Personal Connection
After narrowing down your choices, meet with potential photographers to discuss your project. This meeting is crucial—you’re looking for someone who isn’t just skilled but also easy to collaborate with. Their enthusiasm for your project and creative ideas can significantly influence the shoot's outcome.

Cool Fiancè

Special shout-out to @ab4eva and her fabulous editing skills! This is the second installment in my cool girl saga. Read Part 1 here

Five Things to know about Austin Butler’s New Fiance ::
Although his reps couldn't be reached for comment, sources close to the Elvis actor confirm he has popped the question to his mysterious lady love!
Butler and the stunning brunette were recently spotted at the iconic Les Puces market in Paris last Friday, and she seemed to be sporting a new accessory. Austin was dressed in a black leather jacket, a white v neck tee, and black moto boots. She was clad in a classic trench coat and vintage Dior kitten heels as she kept her head down and let the winner lead the way. His face was mostly obscured by aviator sunglasses, but his smile was very apparent according to onlookers. “Austin was holding her hand and pointing out jewelry at different booths. They were very friendly with local vendors and Austin ended up buying her a gold charm bracelet. He told the dealer the bracelet was a momento to celebrate their recent engagement,” a fellow American tourist overheard. The twosome reportedly spent the prior week soaking in the city of lights and meeting with the YSL fashion house. Austin was recently tapped as the brand's newest ambassador.
Since returning stateside paparazzi pics have finally surfaced and revealed a closer look at that ring. Montana based indie jeweler Jada Kaye has been revealed as the designer of that serious sparkler. The 5 carat, flawless emerald-cut emerald is set in solid gold and flanked by two white diamonds on either side. Inside sources told Elle Magazine that Kaye and Butler worked closely together to craft the one of a kind creation. There's even rumored to be an inscription on the inside that's significant to the couple and the ring is estimated to cost a cool $100,000. Austin's fiancè was photographed heading into a ballet studio yesterday wearing pink tights, a pink leotard, Ugg boots, and of course that ring. Her curly dark brown hair was slicked back into a bun and she seemed to be sporting a pair of the actor's sunglasses.
Here's everything you need to know about the future Mrs. Austin Butler;
She's from New England —
A, as she's known, was born in Rhode Island. She grew up splitting her time between Rhode Island and Kennebunkport, Maine. Her teenage years were spent working the local Del’s lemonade truck, former neighbors say. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design after high school but never graduated.
She and Austin met via her former job –
Whilst working at the New York location of Vibrant Vintage, A, served as the fashion archives buyer. She also happened to be on hand when Butler visited the store. Supposedly she helped him find the perfect pair of leather boots, and the rest is history. Things clearly moved quickly between the two lovebirds, with A relocating to Los Angeles not long after. According to Vibrant Vintage, she is no longer employed there but “remains a close friend and consultant,” says their PR team.
She's a hit with his friends –
She organized a birthday party for her man’s co-star and close friend, Callum Turner. Turner posted an Instagram story showing off a fairly large garden party celebration and a “homemade blueberry glaze cake” according to the post. “Huge thanks to Austin's lovely lady xx” accompanied the video footage. She and Austin were also seen dining with his other Masters of the Air co-star, Nate Mann, while in Paris recently.
They've (supposedly ) got matching ink –
An unnamed employee at the iconic Bang Bang tattoo in NYC has said that Austin and A made a late night visit to the tattoo studio. Where exactly are the said-to-be matching minimalistic tattoos? Reportedly, Austin was inked on his left hip and A on her inner left thigh.
Old fashioned love letters are her thing -
Notably social media shy, Austin and A have taken up the lost art of handwritten love notes. Sources exclusively say that custom monogrammed stationery was crafted for the duo whilst Austin was filming in England. The hand pressed, vintage inspired paper bears a unique coat of arms style symbol with intertwining letter A’s and two sparrows (Fun fact! Sparrows mate for life and always find their way back, no matter how far they fly). While separated, the couple often writes letters to one another, even having the letters sent via jet instead of mail for privacy reasons!
_______
Suddenly one morning articles begin to pour in about your engagement. It catches you off guard, that ring akin to a skating rink has been sitting pretty on your hand for a bit now. The engagement had happened so naturally as everything with the two of you seems to. In the early morning hours while his swollen, rock hard member thrusts into you repeatedly you begin to awaken. On your side, his teeth clamp down on your shoulder as his finger twirls round the curls at the nape of your neck.
His gasps and needy groans tickle your ear. “Couldn't help myself..”, he shudders as you suddenly clamp down around him, barely able to register it all. You stretch and arch, allowing him the room and space to take what he needs. It is his after all. His teeth and pillowy soft lips mark your shoulder blades and when you reach down to where the two of you are joined, you feel his very full balls. Your newly manicured fingers tease and tug the best you can, scrunched up like some sort of acrobat. “Ugh, ugh…baby… you're gonna make me -”. Then he does. Hot, viscous, cream floods you and makes you sigh in a contented whimper. “Thanks darlin’,” he pets your head and you close your eyes dreamily. That is until you hear him rustling around in the bedside table next to him.
You cock open an eye, figuring he's looking for smokes or even the book he had been reading late last night. Your hands are stretched above your head, gripping a pillow. The perfect position for him to suddenly slip the most gorgeous piece of jewelry you've ever seen onto your finger. When your eyes shoot open and you jump up, he's lying there grinning that smile that makes you weak at the knees. “Will you be my wife?” As if your answer would be anything but yes, please Daddy. You smother him in kisses, straddling him and giggling. It's the perfect moment, the perfect proposal. You were never one to want a fireworks display or heaven forbid, those ridiculous and wasteful walls of flowers other celebrities seem to have for every occasion. This private, simple moment is everything you could ask for.
You feel the sudden urge to take him in your mouth despite him just finishing. With your head hanging off the side of the bed, you take him down your throat. Choking and gagging, you really give it your all. Fighting to keep your eyes open so you can see the way his lip curls and his eyes slam shut. Talking is always your thing. This time, though, he's sputtering and rasping words of utter devotion and love. Promises to worship your body until the day he dies. My perfect, perfect wife. Soon you can't be sure if the tears are from his cock down your throat, or his beautiful words. Maybe both. Those pretty boy fingers twist and tug on your nipples and then crawl lower and flick that special spot. The only fireworks you enjoy happen, twice for you actually. He's so dutiful and charming, when you're done pulling yourself back together and fixing your hair, he's handing you a surprise glass of champagne. What a way to mark the occasion.
You decline a proper press announcement. Phone and FaceTime calls follow to those who truly matter to you both - your families, both absolutely thrilled. Then Baz, Cal, The Presley's, everyone can't stop gushing about how perfect you are for each other. That ring, oh how sweet he designed it himself. You come up with a family-appropriate story to describe the proposal and the evening that followed, conveniently leaving out the mind-blowing sex the two of you have all over the house and in the hot tub. Why do things feel so different now that you're engaged? You can't get over the way the light hits the ring as you stroke him and something in that dirty girl heart of yours feels like it's really, truly, official when you have to clean his cum off the stone.
He's due back to set for some reshoots a few days later and of course you follow. Bringing throw pillows from your living room to spruce up his trailer and plotting out how to plan the most private, under the radar wedding possible while you lounge in his trailer in a cute little dress you sew yourself from vintage scarves bought in London. Your newest hobby, that and the ballet classes. He yammers on and on about wanting to sneak in and see you dance. You're sure it's just the tights and leotards spurring his interest though, let's be real. The paparazzi are as relentless as ever, but head down with big sunglasses helps keep the chaos at bay.
You visit Disney World, a whole crew, the two of you, your families, friends with their little ones. Thankfully Disney security is familiar with celebrity guests and you can actually let your guard down for once. Which is good, because seeing Austin chase after your friend's newly toddling little ones makes your stomach flip flop with joy. You make a mental note to expedite the wedding plans, he makes it known that he's chomping at the bit to be a father. When you visit Main Street, you decide a pair of new Mickey ears are in order. Gold stitching with Mrs. Butler is what you finally decide on after Austin's encouragement, his hand on your lower back as you walk miles and miles around the park with hands full of churros and cotton candy. Sure, some overzealous fans snap cell phone pics of you with your ears and immediately post them to those ridiculous Austin fan blogs who've now decided you are the evil villain in his story. You won't allow them to burst your Disney bubble though. Your fairytale is just beginning after all.

Joou/Splendor Lore & Headcanons
Lore
She studied fashion in both NYC and Paris before the Midnight incident and the Brazil mission. She got into the elite fashion schools in part due to her family name and connections but also because of her intelligence and fashion knowledge.
After the fallout between her and Midnight, she applied for both a fashion and beauty school in Tokyo to get as far away from her as possible.
Worked as an intern at Takarano Inc before inheriting the company.
Ended up taking some modeling gigs when she moved to Brazil with her husband. Joou was discovered by a photographer while on the beach.
During the year she lived in Brazil, she partnered with a makeup company for a collab that ended up selling out the minute it hit stores. The positive reaction and reviews to the makeup inspired her to launch her beauty brand.
Her and Irefumi lived in a penthouse during the Brazil arc then moved into a mansion just outside of Tokyo once they returned to Japan.
Joou's fashion company not only produces her personal brand but the brands of several other heroes.
Headcanons
Building off @floof-ghostie headcanon: During the work week, Joou wears wigs or braids because washing and styling her hair is too much of a hassle. One day she'll come in with black hair, the next with ginger.
She lets out her natural hair off duty/after work, on the weekends, or on her off days.
Joou has a drawer full of elicit pictures of Irefumi at her agency. She thinks he doesn't know about it but he, in fact, does.
She can play the piano quite well. As a housewarming gift, her parents bought her a piano encrusted with diamonds.
One of her favorite piano pieces is Moonlight Sonata.
Joou spends more time at her agency and/or makeup factory than she does at the Takarano Inc office because she hates the stuffy environment.
Her and Miruko did a collab once for her (Miruko's) birthday. Needless to say that Joou met her match when it came to fashion.

Corporate Headshots NYC: A Guide to Professional Photography for Your Brand
Why Professional Headshots Matter
A professional headshots nyc conveys credibility, personality, and approachability. For corporate professionals, a clean, polished image on LinkedIn or a company website communicates competence and professionalism. For actors and models, the right headshot showcases versatility and individuality, becoming a tool for casting decisions. In creative fields, it speaks to your unique personal style and brand. In a city like NYC, where competition is fierce, a subpar headshot can be a missed opportunity, making it critical to invest in a well-done portrait.
Choosing a Photographer in NYC
New York City is home to countless professional photographers, each offering unique styles, price ranges, and expertise. When selecting a photographer, consider your industry and the image you want to project. For instance, corporate professionals may prefer photographers specializing in clean, business-focused portraits with neutral backdrops. Actors and creatives may seek a more dynamic, expressive style, often captured in natural light or with artistic backgrounds.
Research is key: browse portfolios to understand a photographer's approach and reviews from past clients to gauge their professionalism. Many photographers offer packages that include multiple looks, allowing you to showcase different aspects of your personality or career.
Preparing for Your Headshot Session
To make the most of your headshot session, preparation is essential. Choose clothing that reflects your professional image but also feels comfortable. Neutral tones generally work well for corporate headshots, while creatives can opt for bold colors that match their personal brand. Grooming is equally important – neat hair, minimal accessories, and light makeup (if applicable) ensure that nothing distracts from your face. If you're unsure of the right look, many NYC photographers collaborate with stylists or provide recommendations to help you present your best self.
Maximizing the Impact of Your Headshot
Once you've received your headshots, use them strategically across all relevant platforms. For corporate professionals, updating LinkedIn, your company profile, and any digital portfolios with your new image will enhance your online presence. Actors should update their casting profiles, while creatives might consider incorporating the headshot into their websites and social media. In a bustling city like NYC, where first impressions often happen online, a strong headshot can open doors to new opportunities.
Conclusion
In NYC, a professional headshots nyc is more than just a photograph – it’s an investment in your personal brand. By choosing the right photographer, preparing thoroughly, and strategically using the final images, you can ensure that your headshot helps you stand out in one of the most competitive cities in the world.

Racist Clothing Brands + Black Brands to Buy From Instead:
Racist Brands
Chanel
Chanel has been repeatedly accused of racially profiling Black customers and last year they hired a white woman as head of their "diversity and inclusion" department.
Gucci
Gucci has a complicated history with the Black community, stemming from them all but trying to destroy Dapper Dan's business only to hire him two decades later. Most recently they came under fire for releasing a sweater that had suspiciously Blackface elements and stealing designs from Black designers.
Prada
Prada has a similar history and they recently had to apologize after releasing a collection of monkey key chains.
Dior
Dior's most recent fragrance campaign came under fire for racist undertones but a Black Hollywood stylist also gave BET.com an account of an incident that she had with a brand. The stylist requests to remain anonymous says, "they compromised our creative relationship by not following through on requests and instead loaning looks that were promised to me to white actors instead."
Celine
Celine's branding is notoriously extremely thin and extremely white. A quick scroll of their social media will reveal exactly their opinion on Black lives.
Barney’s
Before going bankrupt, Barney's had to pay out a settlement in a racial discrimination case of $525k to two plantiffs.
Moda Operandi
A former employee of the company released this thread on Moda Operandi, citing several micro aggressions she suffered there.
Burberry
Burberry issued an apology after releasing a sweater featuring a noose motif.
Tommy Hilfiger
In 1996, Tommy Hilfiger famously made comments against the Black community and has since clarified what he meant, but the hurt in the community lingers.
Moschino
Managers discriminated against black customers who did not appear to be rich or famous.
“If a potential black client was not a celebrity and did not have an outward appearance of money via diamonds or name brands, defendant [Ranna] Selbak called them a ‘Serena’ to other sales associates and wanted the ‘Serena’ to be closely watched,” according to the complaint.
Versace
A former male Versace employee sued Versace for allegedly firing him after his manager realized he was Black.
Zara
Zara was accused of using racial code words for black and Latinx customers. The Center for Popular Democracy surveyed 251 Zara employees in New York City about the retailer’s practices. Poll respondents said that when the term “special order” was used at the store, employees were to find the location of the shoppers in question and follow them around. Black customers were most often described as “special orders,” according to the survey results.
Reformation
They were criticised for their internal practices by a black former employee, Elle Santiago. Santiago said she was denied work promotions in favor of white colleagues, as well as being ignored by the company founder, Yael Aflalo, because of her race.
“Being overlooked and undervalued as a woman of color who worked and managed their flagship store for three years was the hardest,” Santiago wrote in an Instagram post picked up by industry watchdog Diet Prada. “I cried many times knowing [that] the color of my skin would get me nowhere in the company.”
Urban Outfitters
“As one of very few PoC [people of color] I quickly noticed the toxic environment I’d joined,” says the former employee, who wishes to remain anonymous. “Within my first month my manager made a flippant racist comment in regards to an Uber I’d called; the driver’s name was Muhammad. Her comment was, ‘You would get a Muhammad’ – in what I can only take as a comment made because of my heritage.
“There’s no PoC in the executive team and very little representation of PoC in head office, on the website, marketing campaigns and within the retail management teams.”
The company has a history of producing offensive items of clothing, including a seemingly blood-spattered T-shirt seen as a reference to the 1970 Kent State shootings; a T-shirt in a color named “Obama/Black”; another featuring a six-pointed badge, which seemed to allude to the Star of David badge that Jewish people were forced to wear during the Holocaust; and a racially insensitive Navajo line which used the Navajo nation name illegally.

So there’s photos of Tom shopping in nyc yesterday and tomdaya a are going crazy cause he’s wearing a pair of jeans that have “Z” on the back of them and they all believe zendaya marked up another pair of his pants. Now here’s my take on this 1) It’s literally just a company brand because the Z is the exact size, shaped and location at the photos from when he was in the hamptons. 2) Funny how every weekend he’s not see with here he’s wearing the letter Z on his ass, I find this so weird and it shows that these two are really in a seriously co-dependent relationship and that it’s like a strategy to show like “oh we aren’t seen together rn but trust us we are still dating don’t worry tomdaya fans” 3) Who in their right mind would let anyone, no matter who they are, draw on their expensive clothes??????? Like that’s just sick??? (And to top it off he’s still wearing that ring “she got him” and he’s also wearing what looks to be his old signet ring that he lost or maybe he got a new one)
Wait so is it the same pants or new ones from the same brand?
Also the lettering or branding screams insecure teenagers.
It’s always whenever they’re away they got out of the way to be photographed with something that belongs to the other or have it matching playing up to the shippers cause who else really cares

Anon: “Wait so all The Tig posts weren’t written by MM?” Plant: “Nope. She had two staffers and at lest two branding/publicity firms working on the blog.” —— You wrote about this a few years ago,
https://anonymoushouseplantfan.tumblr.com/post/159844908631/jerseydeanne-amazing-what-you-can-found-on-her
Your theory at the time, and I agree with you, is that ETuke likely set up the blog for one client through which to promote her other brand clients, including the infamous Vitamix. It was a win-win-win for Tuke – she promoted Meghan, Vitamix, etc. and got paid by all of them. Cross-promotional opportunities up the ying-yang through a very easy third party vehicle. Tuke herself wrote the other year,
https://www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/features/a20091506/meghan-markle-fashion-profile/
Six months after dressing Meghan for the gala, I left the corporate world to open my own PR firm, Tuke Consulting. Around the same time, Meghan was launching a new lifestyle Website called the Tig. She soon became my client.
I don’t think this was as random as ET makes it sound, though. I think setting up MM with The Tig helped ET kickstart her new business. As you wrote then, ET used Exsite in Toronto (now Article) for the Tig’s web development, and most recently for the Sussex Royal website. ET then designed the look and voice of the blog – basically coming up with all the Tig’s branding that became MM’s branding. One of ET’s staff members went off to another company where she had Serena as a client, and lo and behold MM and Serena were matched up. And IIRC, she befriended Toronto photographer Jake Rosenberg of Coveteur fame, who helped her with photography for the blog; worth noting too that Jake is pals with Oprah. I think there was probably an arrangement between ET and MM where ET set up MM with the blog, and then expanded it to use one of her staffers when that staffer moved on to another position. It worked for all of them because it facilitated a lot “native advertising”. PS That HB article by ETuke is also useful because it’s one of the few factual descriptions of Meghan’s “UN speech”. What she attended was “Step It Up for Gender Equality”, a UN Women’s celebratory event for the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. It wasn’t held at the UN, it was held at a NYC event space, the Manhattan Center at 311 West 34th St. UN Women didn’t even mention her in the PR,
https://www.unwomen.org/en/news/stories/2015/3/media-advisory-planet-50-50-by-2030-step-it-up-for-gender-equality
But none of that stopped Meghan and all her PR companies from spinning that one event as “Meghan Markle giving a speech at the UN”. Incredible.
_______________________________________________________________________
Thanks! I’d forgotten the details. LOL, I just realized that Serena must have been Meghan’s first “hire someone they hire” connection.

Darren Criss on his marriage and new role in ‘American Buffalo’
When Darren Criss settles into our Alexa interview at a chic cafe in West LA, he’s friendly and direct.
“I am an outspoken person in real life, but in the media, I find I’m very reserved,” he observes. “I’m asked questions about myself that I haven’t really had to think about. That is a really strange occupational hazard. It would be like if you asked your dental hygienist, ‘Do you think your career choice stems from your interest in cleanliness as a kid?'”
Reading between the lines: The actor-producer-songwriter du jour resists the sound bite.
Criss, 33, may be the consummate showman, but in person — apart from a hint of chipped black nail polish and a pair of gold-rimmed aviators that nod to his love of costume — he seems more cerebral theater nerd (a flag he flies proudly) than flamboyant hunk.
Before long, Criss is expounding on big themes in a delightfully thespy manner. Conversations branch off, reverse direction, then run off on entirely new paths.
“I like keeping myself in balance by taking constant left and right turns,” he explains of his career. “The party trick? You think I’m doing all this stuff spontaneously, but it’s not without a significant attention to detail and planning. I don’t freak out if it doesn’t go as planned, but whatever it is, I will optimize it. Drop me off anywhere, and I will make [it] as awesome as possible.”
For a significant and impassioned fan base, Criss is the guy who sang, danced and heartthrobbed his way through a starring role on “Glee.” He’d go on to become an unsettlingly cheerful killer in 2018’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story,” a nuanced performance that won him an Emmy and a Golden Globe.
In 2020, things are getting even more extra.
The day of our interview, he was flying to NYC to begin rehearsals for David Mamet’s “American Buffalo,” now set to begin previews April 14 at Circle in the Square Theatre (a delay after Broadway shuttered over the coronavirus pandemic). He will play Bobby — one of a trio of hustlers trying to make it rich — alongside Laurence Fishburne and Sam Rockwell.
“I try to do a show in New York every two to three years,” says Criss (who’s previously starred in “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”). “It will be great to be in New York doing one of the great American plays with a great American playwright.”
He’s also experimenting with new formats, namely executive-producing, writing songs for and starring in the new satiric series “Royalties,” which will debut on the short-form video streaming platform Quibi this spring.
In May, he’ll channel the golden age of cinema in “Hollywood,” the hotly anticipated Ryan Murphy-helmed Netflix series, which Criss also executive-produced. (Not to mention his work for Elsie Fest, a musical-theater festival he co-founded five years ago.)
If your head is spinning, that’s all part of the plan.
“I love giving strangers an excuse to connect,” he says. “I just enjoy quirky things and quirky people. And that comes from the idea of challenging people’s expectations. At the end of the day, that’s my biggest driving force — that you can do something weird and have it be cool.”
Born in San Francisco, Criss knew early on that he wanted to follow an original path. He taught himself piano, studied violin and, at the age of 10, made his professional theater debut.
“Had my parents wanted me to be an actor, I wouldn’t have done it,” he reflects. “But I realized I had a knack for it. I’m literally a parrot: I like mimicry, music, accents.”
His hobby, he insists, is practicing his Japanese. A dream vacation, he says, would be a sojourn at Middlebury College’s language immersion program. “It’s where they send the CIA to learn Farsi. I would love it!”
While a student at the University of Michigan, Criss gained fame with his contribution to the YouTube cult hit “A Very Potter Musical”, which led to the co-founding of the musical-comedy sensation StarKid.
“At the time, studio execs didn’t understand the power of social media. In my early 20s, I was this Internet force with my friends, but going to play piano at [a bar] twice a week. I was living a double life, with Billboard-charting albums, and yet, how could you explain this to a casting director? They were like, ‘You make Internet videos?’ It was absurd to them. Nobody [at the time] knew how to monetize that.”
During his mainstream breakout as the chiseled Blaine Anderson — who famously covered “Teenage Dream” on “Glee” — Criss earned what he describes as a “master’s in putting music and the camera together,” an experience that has served him well in both “Hollywood” and his genre-defying Quibi show, where he’ll play a songwriter aside big-name musician guest stars.
While Criss has played several high-profile gay characters in his career, he says he’ll no longer accept such parts, telling Bustle in late 2018: “I want to make sure I won’t be another straight boy taking a gay man’s role.”
In February 2019 he married his girlfriend — writer-producer-musician Mia Swier — in New Orleans. The experience can only be described as an immersive extravaganza.
Their first dance” was a rendition of “The Ballroom Blitz” by British rock brand Sweet, with Criss on guitar and Mia on bass. They were later serenaded by friends Lea Michele and John Stamos.
There were umpteen costume changes (during the evening’s silent disco, a Vera Wang gown and Armani suit were traded for matching sequin T-shirts). Although Vogue covered the festivities, Criss says much remains under wraps.
“I want to show people all the things that really go on [in my life], but I’m also quiet about it,” he reflects. “The wedding is a good example. I remember thinking,’I wish everybody in the world could see this, it’s the coolest thing I’ve ever pulled off.’ When I put myself into something, I give it everything I’ve got. That was a big representation of who I am and who my wife is and what we do.
It’s non-conventional, out-of-the-box thinking and that also led Criss and his wife to open the Hollywood piano bar Tramp Stamp Granny’s, in 2018. Mia (whose family founded The Mercury Lounge and Bowery Ballroom in NYC) takes the lead on the project, although Criss says he still occasionally tickles the ivories there, a throwback to his leaner years working piano bars.
If you ask nicely, he may even sing. Crew Credits: Fashion Editor: Serena French; Stylist: Anahita Moussavian; Fashion Assistants: Nicole Zane and Haley Wells; Grooming: Jessica Ortiz at Forward Artists using Shiseido; Tailoring: Amber Doyle

Thanks to @inagarten, I find myself with a couple thousand new followers today so I thought it might be nice to introduce myself. As a photographer and writer, I much prefer to stay behind the scenes so I’ll never be someone who posts selfies and pictures of myself but it’s nice to check in occasionally. The shortish version is that I have a degree in art history but didn’t know what I wanted to do with it so I landed in commercial real estate. I transferred with my company to NYC in August 2001 and hoped I could move into fashion. The events of 9/11 meant I was an automatic New Yorker that day but couldn’t change paths until 2005 when I had enough of the male dominated industry and took a pay cut to work for an interior designer. In 2007, I was reading blogs based outside of NYC talking about things in my backyard and decided to start my own. I wanted the name to match my initials which is how Habitually Chic was born. After a layoff in 2008, I went out on my own and haven’t worked for anyone since. I decided to take a break from my interior design practice in 2012 when I published my book Habitually Chic: Creativity at Work where I photographed and interviewed 30 creatives in their workspaces. Since then, I’ve worked with brands, retailers, hotels, and more on collaborations and partnerships as a full time blogger and influencer. I love the freedom it affords me except when I’m quarantined in NYC. I was starting to think about starting my second book when all of this happened which I can’t do without traveling so now I’m outlining an idea for a tv series idea. This down time has been interesting but I’m ready for a change a scenery soon. I welcome you all and appreciate the kind words about my peaceful photos. I will always strive to be a respite from this crazy world and introduce you to chic things and beautiful places. XOXO, HC #habituallychic #quarantinechic #hello #dontgetusedtothis (at Upper East Side) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAyMphEHMHX/?igshid=1jyfepe1ruc7q

What is it?
The Met Gala benefiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute
More info on the Costume Institute soon!
Where is it?
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY
When is it?
“The First Monday in May”
May 6, 2019
Arrivals begin around 5:30 pm EST
How do I watch?
Watch through Vogue’s social accounts (IG, Twitter)
Follow our Met Gala Twitter list
We’ll post more info on where to watch before the event!
Why does this event happen?
The Met Gala began in 1948 but reached new heights under Diana Vreeland’s direction starting in 1972. Anna Wintour has chaired the event since 1995 (ish).
The gala is the sole annual fundraiser to support the work of the Costume Institute. In past years, the event raised over $12 million.
Each seat reportedly costs over $30,000. Full tables can run from $250,000 to $1.5 million, depending on the sponsor and the table’s placement.
Who’s involved?
Anna Wintour chairs the gala and controls every detail of the evening.
The other co-chairs serve as ceremonial hosts for the evening. Occasionally, co-chairs also “participate” in the planning of the event and exhibit. They will all greet guests in the arrival line just inside the museum.
Typically, the co-chairs arrive early to begin their duties, but it’s not guaranteed!
Co-Chairs for 2019:
Anna Wintour
Alessandro Michele
Lady Gaga
Serena Williams
Harry Styles
The Sponsor:
Along with his co-chair-ship for the event, Alessandro Michele and Gucci are sponsoring the party and the exhibit.
Typically the sponsoring fashion house also provides a number of pieces for the exhibit. Last year, Versace sponsored Heavenly Bodies and had a number of rooms dedicated to Gianni Versace’s designs.
Who gets invited?
Guest count can range anywhere from 550-700 depending on the year. But there is not much room inside the museum, so seats are limited to the high-profile guests. No teams, no glam squads, no publicists! (Usually.)
All invites are approved by Anna. Urban legend says that Anna approves of what everyone wears but turns out that’s actually (mostly) a myth!
Anna oftentimes provides seats in Vogue’s name for up and coming designers to raise their profile.
Brands (tech, fashion, etc.) can buy tables but don’t fully decide who sits there. Anna will approve each seating placement and play matchmaker between celebrities and brands to fill the seats.
Most celebrities attend through a brand invite. If it’s a fashion brand, the celebrity will almost certainly wear their designs on the red carpet.
The Theme
The theme for the events always matches the theme of the exhibit.
This year it’s CAMP: Notes on Fashion, a play on Susan Sontag’s essay “Notes on Camp”. (More on camp later!)
Do people have to follow the theme?
NO! But it’s highly encouraged.
Most people will follow the theme but since fashion houses will be dressing celebrities in their designs, they may choose to dress them in the brand’s aesthetic instead of the theme.
In the end, the event is about raising money. And if someone spends $$$ on seats/tables, they can dress their celebs however they want. But they run the risk of getting dragged on Twitter for not being on theme.
Schedule
Arrivals
~5:30pm - 9:30pm EST
Receiving Line
just inside the museum, as guests arrive
Cocktail Hour
Exhibit walk-through
IG Studio by Vogue - a themed video studio where guests are filmed for #content (see: Met Gala HQ → Videos → IG Studio)
Dinner
Remarks/Performance
There will be a musical guest! But who?
After-Parties
High profile sponsors usually host after parties elsewhere in NYC.
Rules:
As of 2018, the event is 18+
No social media posting after the red carpet
Only official photographers are allowed to post from within the event
The major exception is in the bathrooms, where each year celebrities congregate to smoke and take selfies. (More on that later!)
Special Vogue Issue
Vogue will publish a special edition magazine with photos and details from inside the event. (TAKE MY MONEY!)
Required reading: NYT’s Vanessa Friedman on the Gala
Check out our Met Gala HQ for more information about the Gala and stay tuned for more posts covering other aspects of the event.
