grade 5 theory words: the german ones
disclaimer: i do not speak german, nor do i know how most of these words are pronounced, but in abrsm grade 5 theory all you gotta be able to do is define them. sorry to actual german-speakers.
aber - but (...but what if there were bears????)
als - than
am Frosch - using the heel of the bow, ‘au talon’
Ausdruck - expression (think of an australian duck with a feather boa)
ausdruckvoll - expressively
bestimmt - with decision, definite (because you just know it’s the best, immit)
bewegt - agitated, with movement (just say the word professor trelawney style and you’ll get it)
breit - broad, expansive (brexit without the ex: an expansive ideology for those wishing to retreat to the continent after a maritial dissolution)
Dampfer - mute (it dampens the sound, my dudes)
doch - however, yet (you’ve almost smuggled a basilisk into the country by boat, however, you must get it through the docks)
ein - one (ein fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish)
einfach - simple (because you need only give a single ‘fach’)
Empfindung - emotion, feeling (that empfin’ dung)
empfindungvoll - with feeling
etwas - somewhat, rather (it was.. kinda.. somewhat.. etc.)
feurig - fiery (fire beats igloos)
Flatterzunge, Flzg. - flutter-tonguing (flatter-zunging = flutter-tonguing)
fliessend - flowing (i just imagine a fairy called felicity boating down a stream, idek)
frei - free
frisch - vigorous (honestly there’s no non-frisky way to remember this one, i’m sorry :/ )
frohlich - happy, joyful (like lambs frolicking)
gebunden - joined (kinda like bundled)
gehend - at a steady speed, = andante
gesangvoll - in a singing style, = cantabile (it says sang in the middle)
geschwind - quick (like the schwind)
immer - always (true immersion is eternal, i don’t make the rules)
innig - sincere (everything is more sincere if you say ‘innit’ after)
kraftig - strong (well-crafted)
langsam - slow, = adagio, lento (quit langing behind already, sam)
lebhaft - lively, = vivace (if your legs are halfed you must hop, which is lively)
Leid - grief, pain (lied me away from all this pain)
liedvoll, liedensvoll - sorrowful
Leidenschaft - passion (*coughs* like madrigals *coughs* are grief-stricken songs about entitled dudes who can’t get any *coughs*)
liedenshaftlich - passionate
leise - soft, gentle (like a fluffy music box that plays fur elise)
leiblich - lovely (pronounced leeb-lick. leeb backwards is beel. bee l-lick. lovely.)
lustig - cheerful (as in, cheerful lusting)
massig - at a moderate speed (catering to the masses)
mit - with (with mittens, dudes. it’s gettin’ cold out.)
munter - lively (THE HILLS (mountains) ARE ALIVEEE)
nach und nach - gradually (nach by nach)
nicht - not (i usually use the tokio hotel song ‘spring nicht’, but if that’s too dark for you both nicht and not are n--t)
noch - still, yet (is there anybody there? said the traveller who is STILL knocking on that moonlit door)
ohne - without (without honour)
rasch - quick (as in rash, as in you shouldn’t have done it :/ )
rascher - quicker
ruhig - peaceful (peaceful is he who rues the igloos)
schnell - fast (like running from a schmell, or alternatively not like a schnail)
schneller - faster
schwach - weak (weak bc it’s schwacked out)
schwacher - weaker
sehr - very (like how a man is a man, but a sir is very man)
stark - strong (like arya stark with a sword)
suss - sweet (think zeus going “that is zeus, man!”)
traurig - sad (think of a tauren (or cow) crying in an igloo)
und - and
viel - much (*herd of deer gallops into your room* much veal.)
voll - full
vorgetragen - prominent (vore getting raging is prettyyy prominent imo)
wenig - little (weenie igloos)
wieder - again (as in vee deux! vee deux!)
zart - tender, delicate (...zart)
ziemlich - moderately (is it zime for lick? ..maybe. moderate lick zime.)
zu - to, too
