Aw thanks :') Syril already making friends
Mal sounds really cool tho. I'm not that well-versed in the deeper lore since I've never been a huge fan of DND itself (i've tried playing it a couple times and just never liked the rules. i even mod most of the rules out of bg3 whoops) but from what i DO understand, love him. Gives me the "we do crazy things when we're in love" vibe but also maybe he just does crazy things which is so valid.
Also really do appreciate the different take on AA! I think it is kinda hard to ignore some of the canon dialogue the game presents, that Astarion sees the relationship as ur character demeaning themselves and that he has no intention of ever turning your character into a true vampire/wants to keep them as a spawn forever. BUT it is an RPG and we can do whatever we want so I absolutely can see both angles on this, that perhaps he's doing this from a place of love.
That was kinda how I saw the bad ending of Syril & Astarion going for the triple A like - they've both been through some bad shit (and Syril's backstory has some pretty rough stuff in it too so obviously xD) and going this route turns them into literally an unstoppable force. the culmination of the "you can't hurt me every again" trope. And especially as you've laid it out, it's really hard not to see that there's definitely some love mixed in there.
I will say i definitely don't think Ascension changes Astarion at all. I think his decision is all about what parts of him to bring to the surface. Was actually having a convo with my friend the other day about like—why wasn't it an option for Astarion to just become a true vampire. Why was it either stay a spawn or Ascend, and that's really the major player there. Becoming a true vampire would have been too middle ground, and Astarion doesn't do anything halfway. He's either going to Do It (Ascend) or Not Do It (Spawn); these are both parts of him and it's just a matter of what part he decides to embrace. I see Ascension about him deciding to protect himself and create his own world, the only people welcome are those he invites, and staying a Spawn is about vulnerability, where he decides to lean on others instead. He really is such an interesting character it drives me up a wall.
Very informative all around 10/10
that being said i'd love to continue chatting!! whether dms or discord or whatever, just shoot me a message and lemme know :')
It's interesting to read people's headcanons about Ascended Astsrion and a romanced Tav because I've never even thought about it. If Astsrion ascends, Syril becomes the Absolute. That's what we call too bad idiots enabling each other instead of helping.
