Hikaru Changes Management Agency

As of October 31, Hikaru will no longer be managed by her agency Hifumi Co., Ltd.

Her contract with them expired and either she herself or the management team felt like it wasn’t viable to extend it. Hikaru’s artist management as well as the management of her fan club will seamlessly transition to a new agency called Okuruto Noboru Co., Ltd., meaning that there will be no noticeable changes for us fans.

There’s not much that can be found about this agency. As far as I can tell, the company is not your typical agency, instead, it is a pretty  tiny animation studio which apparently also has a department for artist management of some sort. I wonder if Hikaru’s current manager will join her at the new agency? They have become pretty close in recent months. I guess this will mark the end of her collaborations with Gushimiyagi which could potentially be a good thing. I really wonder how that agency change will affect her future activities...? For the past few years I have been pretty vocal about how I am not the biggest fan of Hifumi’s management since I don’t feel like they have ever done anything substantial to push her ahead. But I have no idea if her tiny new agency can do any better...*sighs* Guess we’ll have to wait and see...

HikaruとRadiocation - 生配信 Special  CANCELLED

In other news, Hikaru will hold a special live broadcast version of her fan club exclusive radio program “HikaruとRadiocation“ on November 7. If you haven’t yet, this is your opportunity to join the fan club! Hikaru’s official fan club is called “まさにひかる/Masani Hikaru” (Exactly like Hikaru). Most of you should have already registered for free with a FAM ID. It is fairly easy to set up an account. You can register with your email or an already existing SNS account. After verifying the link you can create your FAM ID (I just used my name as FAM ID). They are asking for an address, I used my Japanese Tenso address just to be on the safe side but I think it should be possible to use an overseas address as well. Now all you need to do is provide your payment information (credit cards are accepted) on “My Page” and settle the annual membership fee (5,500円).

I think I spoke too soon regarding “no noticeable changes for fans”. They did just release a statement regarding Hikaru’s fan club. It seems like they are planning a “renewal” (whatever that means). A new monthly membership plan is going to be introduced on November 1 alongside the already existing annual membership plan. A special present will be sent to all members with an annual plan as well as to everyone who joins the fan club on a monthly plan from November 1-30. [I wonder what will happen if you didn’t enter a Japanese address upon registration...? I am pretty sure they won’t be sending presents overseas...]

Renewal of Hikaru’s Official Fan Club

So many new announcements. Check out my posts covering all the recent news about Hikaru HERE and HERE.

New Name “agiato”

Yesterday I wasn’t quite sure what they meant with the term “renewal” and how it would affect the fan club and its current content. I was fairly certain that the content would remain the same since the announcement sounded more like a transition and not so much like a complete new start. Turns out that I was more or less right, Hikaru’s fan club hasn’t changed as far as its content is concerned, it just went through a nice little makeover. The site design and name have been changed completely. “Masani Hikaru” is now “agiato”. Hikaru explains in her little update video (fan club exclusive) that she has chosen the Italian term “agiato” for two reasons. The word on its own means relaxed/comfortable, this reflects the manner in which she would like to interact with her fans in this exclusive space. The term is also used in music theory to describe when something is being played quickly with agitation and excitement. This refers to the many rather sudden changes that have occurred and which will continue to occur in the near future. While things are bound to change, Hikaru reassures her fans that her fundamentals will remain the same.

New Layout

In accordance to the new fan club name, the layout of the website has been updated as well and I personally think it looks much better now. The previous design was very much in your face/over the top and while it looked cute, I don’t really think it did a good job of representing Hikaru’s personality or image as an artist. The new layout is the epitome of understated elegance with a bit of fun and colour thrown into the mix. The heavier focus on music makes it clear where Hikaru’s priorities lie.

Monthly Membership Plan

In addition to the currently existing annual membership plan there will be a new monthly membership plan due to many fan requests. Right now they are really pushing the fan club and want new people to join so if you have hesitated in the past, please use this opportunity to become a member! It doesn’t make a difference whether you join on an annual or monthly plan, you will have access to the exact same content. A special present will be sent to all members with an existing annual plan as well as to everyone who joins the renewed fan club on a monthly plan from November 1-30. [I wonder what will happen if you didn’t enter a Japanese address upon registration…? I am pretty sure they won’t be sending presents overseas. Thankfully I did enter my Tenso address!]

I am a little confused though because on “My Page” it says my next payment is due on November 10. If I am understanding the instructions correctly, my membership should last until June next year. I am not planning to change to a monthly plan so I’ve no idea what this is supposed to mean...

Christmas Live

In her newest fan club video, Hikaru also announced that she will be holding an event in December! I am not quite sure if this will be a fan club exclusive event (since she announced it only on her fan club site?) or if anyone will be able to attend...No details have been revealed yet as far as the exact date is concerned but the live will apparently take place around Christmas time. Further details will be posted on her fan club site very soon. The live will also have a live stream option so that’s great news. [OMG, PLEASE LET IT HAPPEN ON DECEMBER 24!!!! Everyone manifest this with me!! It definitely shouldn’t happen on Dec 25 because that’s when Wakana is holding her Christmas live. And on the 26th I am already flying back to Vienna so that would be awful timing as well]

Hikaru Becomes a Freelance Artist!

After today’s earlier announcement of Hikaru’s departure from her agency Hifumi, we now get another big piece of news. Starting from November 1st, Hikaru is officially becoming a freelancer. With this additional info, it makes a lot more sense that she would move on to an animation studio that doesn’t really handle artist management. Turns out she will not be employed and managed by Okuruto Noboru Co., Ltd in the “traditional sense”. Instead, she has simply signed an agent contract which allows her all the freedom of a freelancer but still offers a certain range of support regarding marketing and promotion.

As expected, Hikaru is “rebranding” herself for this next step of her career or should I say, she going back to her roots? She is leaving the group project “H-el-ical//” behind after three years, the staff Twitter account has already been discontinued/deleted and I am assuming the YouTube account will most likely suffer a similar fate She is officially back to being just “Hikaru” again, her private Twitter and Instagram accounts have been updated accordingly. Hikaru also launched a new YouTube channel titled “Hikaru ch.” Be sure to SUBSCRIBE and watch her very first video here (Edit: The video has been removed/made private; You can watch it HERE):

As previously reported, Hikaru’s official fan club “Masani Hikaru” shall remain as it is but will be “renewed” under Okuruto Noboru Co., Ltd, meaning they are now in charge of the site’s management. Therefore, inquiries or fan letters need to be sent to Okuruto Noboru. A new monthly membership plan will also be introduced starting from Nov 1st. I guess more so than ever it is going to be important to support Hikaru via her fan club (since this is probably one of her few sources of income at the moment).

Phew....too many announcements in one day. Not sure what to think of all of this. I would say it’s not a bad thing to become a freelance artist. As far as I can tell, it has worked quite well for Kaori Oda so maybe Hikaru can make it work too. Especially if she has YK’s support here and there. But oh boy, we are in dire need of a stabilisation phase. Something needs to happen soon, this current volatile situation is less than ideal.

Hikaru’s New Fan Club Project 【Hikaru&Radiocation!!】

Hikaru and her manager are preparing a new project for the official fan club “まさにひかる/Masani Hikaru”. It’s a radio program titled 【Hikaru & Radiocation!!】. It’s set to launched pretty soon so if you haven’t joined Hikaru’s fan club yet, this is you chance! The program will feature a “Listener’s Corner” so everyone is invited to send in submissions! Hikaru Fan Club Service “agiato” DISCONTINUED

Yet another sad announcement regarding Hikaru. Her newly relbranded fan club "agiato (former name: Masani Hikaru)", will stop accepting new member registrations starting from November 30, 2022. On December 31, the service will be terminated indefinitely. This is happening due to the cancellation of the agent contract between Hikaru and Okuruto Noboru (who were in charge of running the fan club after Hikaru had become a freelance artist).

Due to the termination of the service, a refund will be provided for the applicable period for members whose membership doesn’t end until after January 2023. ■ Eligible for a refund: Those who have a membership period that ends after January 2023 (members with an annual plan) ※There is no refund for members who are subscribed to a monthly plan. ■ Refund amount: The annual membership fee of 5,500 yen will be divided into monthly installments and the amount for the remaining unexpired months will be refunded. For example, if you joined in June when the fan club was first launched, you will get a refund of ¥2,292. If you joined in November, you will get a refund of ¥4,583. ■ Refund procedure: An email will be sent regarding the refund of the membership fee to those eligible. You need to fill in a form and reply to that email with your membership number, name and account information in order to get a refund. Oh no, what a mess. I thought it was going uphill for Hikaru but apparently I was wrong. Her agent contract certainly didn’t last very long. I wonder what that will mean for her and her future activities? Hopefully her appearance at the Ambient Border Dawn event won’t be cancelled because I already got ticket for that. Maybe she is now completely freelance without any restrictions so it could be a good thing? But what was even the point of rebranding the fan club and inviting more people to join? Maybe they were hoping for a lot more people to join but that didn’t happen so the fan club was no longer profitable? Anyway, Hikaru and whoever is advising her need to stop making elaborate announcements if they are incapable of committing to anything long-term. Do they not have any sort of foresight? I realise her current situation is incredibly volatile and there are probably a lot of curveballs being thrown at her but for that exact reason they should take extra measures to ensure a plan is sustainable before putting any info out there. Ughhh, sorry for ranting, this is just so frustrating.

🧬HELIXES🧬 - Fan Club Exclusive Content

As you may know, Hikaru’s fan club app “Helixes” was discontinued last month. This means that all the exclusive content is gone. Don’t worry though, I saved pretty much all of the good stuff before the app got trashed. In the past year I was hesitant to share Hikaru’s fan club content on my blog since it was relatively easy for overseas fans to sign up.
