Mary “Bunny” Shepard

hihi everyone!!! this is my general post introducing my oc!shepard, i’m so excited to share her with yall <333 also i don’t understand how the military works and idc

🐇colonist and war hero background if you wanna get technical, also soldier class

🐇mary shepard grew up on a farm on mindoir. she loved working on the farm with her family, but her true love was dancing, specifically ballet. she was on track to dance professionally on earth, when slavers slaughtered everyone she knew and loved while she was in class one day. she came home to blood all over her house and all of the animals killed. her parents lay dead on the floor, her older brother nowhere to be found.

🐇anderson adopted her since she was almost already an adult, they were more like roommates until she she eventually saw him as a father figure. she enrolled in the alliance when she turned 18, she didn’t know who she was without ballet and following in anderson’s footsteps didn’t seem so bad.

🐇her nickname “bunny” is from her “hopping” around departments in the alliance. she started out training as a field nurse, marines for a while, switched to the army, then military archives, before settling down in the navy. (idc if it’s not accurate irl it is in my head‼️) an additional nickname of “twinkle toes” also popped up once people found out that she used to do ballet. during this time, she also earned her masters degree in archiving after earning her bachelors in history. in her commanders cabin, she has photos of her in ballet along with her degrees displayed proudly on the walls across from her model spaceships. pansexual and prefers she/they pronouns “but i’m at work rn so idrc”

🐇she was banned from doing hand to hand combat at the academy for a while because she kept biting people out of habit because when she would wrestle with her brother, she would always bite him. she was always a scrapper, no matter how prestigious ballet made her on the outside.

🐇elysium was her first official post, having the unfortunate luck of being there during the skylilian blitz, getting flashbacks to see her parents dead on the ground as slavers, crime syndicates, and batarian warlords poured in from all sides. a boost of adrenaline helped her rally the civilians around her, fighting off the invaders with some of the worst odds that the alliance has ever seen. enemy troops broke through the defenses, shepard rushed forward and single handedly mowed them down, pushing them back from the colonists. this lasted hours, but it felt like years, shepard’s ears ringing from the constant gunfire. seeing reinforcements come in, shepard’s legs buckled and she collapsed to the ground, blacking out for 2 days. when she awoke, she was regarded as a war hero and flew through the ranks of the alliance, eventually ending up as anderson’s XO on the Normandy. the whole experience started her bad habit of saying "i like those odds" whenever mission success rates were calculated to be very low.

🐇knowing what happened with saeran and anderson, she resented becoming a specter at first, but eventually settled into the position after a deep talk with anderson convincing her to keep it. she hated taking the normandy from him even more but knew that if anyone was going to take his ship, he would want her to inherit it.

🐇 joker reminds her of her older brother. shepard reminds him of his little sister. at first, she avoids him because of this, but eventually warms up to him and treats him like her older brother, they become close best friends. they know everything about each other, the good, the bad, and the ugly. he reminds her that she was a little sister once.

🐇”i just can’t seem to die” has literally died before

🐇smokes cigarettes when particularly stressed but only when anderson isn’t around

🐇paragon mostly, but she just really likes punching people (sorry khalisah)

🐇”hair holds memories” she hasn’t cut her hair past maintenance trims since her family died. sure it’s a pain sometimes, but it helps her remember what she’s doing this for. she kept it back in a slick bun while still low ranked in the alliance but sticks with a high ponytail since getting promoted to a specter because it’s easier🤷‍♀️ braids it sometimes if she has extra time

🐇has a crisis after being brought back to life, picks up the habit of scratching her skin raw with her nails. hates that she doesn’t have her childhood scars anymore, she has nothing to remember her family by now except the face that looks back at her in the mirror. was it even hers anymore?

🐇initially flirted with kaidan in me1, but after/during me2 she got a lot closer to garrus and ended up with him xoxo<3

🐇during me3, she started to get grey hairs and shed a lot of hair from stress. she honestly liked how the silver streaks looked, it reminded her that she was still human
