okay, serious talk time.
as a content creator, i take pride in the things i make. i also take pride in the amount of time it takes to make them — i’ve spent hours writing one part or editing one gifset alone.
and i’m sure it’s the same for all other content creators who choose to share their stuff on this platform.
with that in mind, please respect that you shouldn’t steal content.
stealing looks like this:
saving it to your camera roll, or to your files
then you repost it, without tagging the original creator.
or, you save it so that you can edit it and then repost it.
essentially, stealing is reposting & never mentioning the original creator anywhere in the post. now, i know, “we post it on a public sight, it’s kinda up for grabs. if you don’t want someone stealing it, watermark it!”
that’s not how this works.
our content is our content that we share, the least we expect in return is recognition. because, when you post content that is stolen, and claim it as your own, then you are taking the attention entirely away from the op. all of the notes that could’ve gone to the op are now going to you because you never gave credit where credit was due.
how do i give credit, though?
easy.
tag the op in the caption of the gif your posting, especially if it came in a set but you wanted that one because it fit best with your post.
link the original post in some part of the caption. even if you don’t remember the tag name, i’m sure you remember where you found the gif. and if not, find it! that will automatically give the op some notes.
reblog the original post the minute you save the gif. even if it doesn’t fit your blog theme, reblogging the original post puts it out there further, and helps people see the source.
if you don’t know the og post/creator, and if you can’t find them, the least you could put is, “creds to creator! gif not mine!”
really, in all honesty, asking the creator works too. there are some genuine accounts on this platform, run by genuine people who are understanding and super easy to talk to. message them, ask if them if its okay that you repost their gif.
but really. if you think content creators don’t recognize their own gifs, their own colorings, own ideas, etc. then you’re sorely mistaken. they don’t have to have a watermark for us to be able to know we spent hours making it.
respect that. it’s the least you could do. :)
tl;dr: don’t steal content without tagging creators as the op. they see it, and it makes them extremely upset. pls & thx. <3
