Fanfic Writer Perspective Game: Uncle Ben from Spider-Man

The longer he went without thinking about them, the more frantic Ben would feel. His heart would stutter as he scrambled to remember his Peter, and his May.

Those two had been his whole world. How did he lose his whole world—how did he lose their world? All those lives, all that love gone, and he had the gall to move on? He was losing them again. He was losing them again!

“Hi Uncle Ben, can I give you a hug?”

Ben nodded and relaxed as his granddaughter draped herself over him. She thought she was sneaky, but he’d seen the articles she’d been reading.

“I’ll be fine,” he promised. “It’s just…”

Mayday squeezed, and Ben soaked it up like a flower turning to the sun.

“I’m not sure when the anniversary is, but I bought you a few yahrzeit candles. We can light them whenever you’re ready,” Mayday offered. “If you want to do something, like volunteer or take photos, we can do that too. Or, you know, just be there if you need some peace, or—“

Ben patted her hand and smiled for the first time in days.

“They would’ve loved you, Mayday. My May was just as fierce and kind, and Pete,” Ben swallowed the lump in his throat, “Pete would be so proud of who you are.”

Mayday was quiet for a sec, and Ben took the moment to fire off a web. Benjy came flying into his lap with a yelp, but the preschooler didn’t complain.

“You’re supposed to be asleep, young man. Also, didn’t your mother say no wall crawling without a spotter?” Ben asked.

“Yeah, so I crab walked,” said Benjy.

“You know what mom meant, goofball.”

Mayday went in to noogie her brother, and chaos took over. All Ben could do was sigh as the two play wrestled.

He wished these two were his Peter’s children. He wished Mayday was named after his May. No other version of him got to be a grandfather though, and Ben refused to waste that by wallowing. These two were his grandbabies, and they deserved all of him.

Even the parts that hurt and made him want to hide. Everyone knows grief at some point. He wasn’t just going to hope they knew how to survive it—Ben would make sure.

“Mayday,” Ben said softly, “could you come with me? Pete used to help out at the local shelter by taking all of the pictures. I’m not as gifted, but…”

“Abso—“ Mayday switched to a whisper, “absolutely, Uncle Ben! Just give me a date and we’ll sign up together.”

Ben stood up, gremlin fast asleep on his shoulder, and kissed the top of Mayday’s head.

“Next Sunday, dear. We can light the candles the night before.”

MOVIE REVIEW

(DISCLAIMER: MY OPINION IS MY OWN AND CAN BE DEEMED INVALID TO THOSE WHO DON’T CARE FOR IT.)

June 27th, 2019 the year of our Lord (whichever one that may be) I watch a spectacular movie that I can truly say that the awards won were well deserved. Spider-Man was the first superhero I can truly say I looked up too and he’s super duper awesome my dudes. I plan on rewatching the movie again so I can complete this post.

Man, this post is gonna be extremely long but it’s totally worth it!
