I’ve been working on my Mexican accent for my date. It’s not promising. I should have hired Channing Tatum’s dialect coach at this point, even then I’d sound less stupid.

I can say “Carne Asada” pretty good. That’s about it.

The ground is cold, small stones on the bitumen digging into his cheek. Blood drips across his side, clinging to his clothes and his skin. From where he can see, a few people run over towards him, shouting. Nearby, a car has swerved off the street, a buckle in the hood and the windscreen smashed. The driver is sitting on the curb with a few other people, her eyes glazed and unfocused, a cut on her eyebrow. Charlie grunts; his wings are...

Oh.

He screams, his talons digging into the road. Pain ripples up and down the muscles in one of them, the other numb and almost feeling dislodged from its socket. Every part of his body burns with agony..

Someone kneels down beside him, saying that the paramedics are on their way. Frantic voices all muffle and morph together over his head like something horrific, hands touching his back and brushing his wings which only make him sob against the ground and whine. The pain, the adrenaline, the confusion, it's all too much. Charlie feels his consciousness slipping away into darkness, wishing that at least someone he knew was here right now.

There are weeks where nothing happens and weeks where years happen. This was the week of the latter. It was Monday, the sky was packed with dark clouds that would bring rain in a few hours.

In the city commonly called a concrete jungle, trees sprang up abruptly in the middle of the day. A dense canopy of trees, a jungle that rivaled even the buildings around it. The trees were large, if one hadn't been familiar with that fact that the city didn't have a forest, it would have felt natural.

The trees themselves looked as if they were over 1,000 years old, with trunks larger in width than four car tires put together and lengths that required craning your neck to even see halfway. It was impossible to see through them to the other side. Anyone who had been around the epicenter when the trees appeared hadn't been heard from. The forest seemed to block cellphone reception. Shining a light on the trees only revealed more inky darkness within them. Attempts to cut down or burn the trees resulted in the forest encroaching on the city further, expanding it's perimeter and threatening to swallow the rest of the city. If someone listened closely the trees seemed to be echoing the voices of those trapped inside. "Help me, help me, help me!"

Fun fact when @moongirlwidow falls asleep in random places they aren’t random it means she feels safe enough there to let her guard down so, like, don’t wake her up unless she’s actively in the way.

Also it usually means she was either up insanely late or woke up and crashed in a random place, so, like, she probably needs it
