Maruti Suzuki Jipsy
The Maruti Suzuki Gypsy is a four-wheel-drive vehicle based on the long wheelbase Suzuki Jimny SJ40/410 series. It is primarily an off-road vehicle, or a vehicle for rough unprepared roads. It was sold in New Zealand as the Suzuki Farm Worker. It was assembled at the Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon plant in India.
It is manufactured in India by Maruti Suzuki. It was introduced in the Indian market in December 1985 with the 970 cc F10A Suzuki engine and while sales were never very high it became very popular with law enforcement. It was codenamed MG410, which stood for "Maruti Gypsy 4-cylinder 1.0-litre engine". Initially, it was only available as a soft-top; but a bolt on hardtop was later introduced to the public after the aftermarket hardtops became popular. It instantly replaced Premier Padmini as the quintessential Indian rally car due to its performance, reliability, tunability and the go-anywhere capability. The carburetted F10A engine made 45 bhp (34 kW; 46 PS) and was mated to a four-speed gearbox. The 4WD transfer case had two speeds. It had a freewheeling mechanism on the front axles made by Aisin to unlock the front axles from the hub when 4WD is not used; It reduced rolling resistance, thereby improving fuel efficiency. However, many owners of the Gypsy who constantly complained about the poor fuel consumption never knew about this novel feature.

Suzuki’s first full U.S. model was the Samurai, aka the Jimny SJ413 - and it was an instant hit when it debuted in 1985; quickly becoming a darling of the 4WD community for its nimble, sure-footed nature and low cost. The SJ413 was a big hit until a fateful Consumer Reports review blunted it’s momentum (CR was forced to disavow its clams after a long court fight). But the SJ413 was just one branch of the vast family tree of Jimnys and the truck as a whole (a new Jimny was introduced globally in 2018). - The SJ413, with it’s four-cylinder engine and wider stance, was designed to appeal to global buyers, but it was based on a Kei-class truck, those small vehicles with displacement and size limits for friendly road tax advantages. The 413 followed the evolution of the original 1970-1981 LJ/SJ Jimny (evolved from the HopeStar ON360, a design #Suzuki inherited when it purchased the Hope Motor Co.in 1968). In this regard, with the final evolution of that even smaller truck being the 797-cc SJ20. The regular Jimnys conformed to 360-cc and later 550-cc Kei rules, limiting their appeal outside of Japan. - The 2nd-gen Jimny bowed in 1981 and took the SJ20 idea further. While export versions reached 1.0L and 1.3L for North America (greatly expanding the appeal of the export versions), the truck continued to evolve at home for the Kei market. This Jimny found wide acceptance around the world (particularly in India, where it was a huge seller for Maruti Suzuki), but the Kei versions generally stayed at home until recently. Visually, the differences are subtle but clear - the #JDM keis lack fender flares of any kind and look a little narrower and a little plainer (sans cool graphics) - to conform to size regs. Under the hood things are also smaller - and often quite interesting. - This particular Jimny is a JA11 - created just as the displacement limit for Keis was raised from 550-cc to 660-cc. It’s #turbocharged and #intercooled, yielding ~55-58hp from a 657cc F6A triple; in what would’ve been called “techno wizardry” at the time. The heart may have been sophisticated but the other pieces were rugged - a ladder frame and 4WD with a low-range just like its predecessors. https://www.instagram.com/p/BysiGjhFisL/?igshid=qhc8dldoeyqf
