Martin Wackerbauer is one of three illustrators at Kurzgesagt. Kurzgesagt is an organisation and design studio based in Munich, Germany which focuses on educational information design & animated illustration. Starting in 2013, Kurzgesagt and their illustrators, including Wackerbauer, have come together to create incredibly popular videos which have a distinctive style and feel.

Wackerbauer’s work featured as the first three in this photo set are the closest to their collective style which inspires me. Wackerbauer’s work and work that he has contributed to at Kurzgesagt I find incredibly interesting. The simplified details and bold use of colour come together to create illustration which communicates it’s message in a unique way. Disregarding realistic representation in favour of illustrative choices which tell a story. I love the work of Wackerbauer and the way that these illustrations work. I endeavour to attempt it in my own style of illustration, both as a challenge and method for improvement.
