too good to go - an app where you can buy food that is leftover at the end of the day and would otherwise go to waste, from cafes/restaurants/sometimes supermarkets. I've used it many times and usually receive lots of delicious food for very cheap

olio - app for giving away free food and other stuff too. how useful it actually is depends highly on your area, but I got some free conditioner once off it which was nice, and there's often free pret food

shopmium - app for discounts and free stuff at supermarkets (via cashback on paypal). me + the gf love this one; we've got deals such as free oat milk, 50p fancy butter, LOTS of free biscuits, 45p fancy Parmesan and £1 fancy meat substitutes. I do have a referral code you can use if you want to help me out - it's s433s3 - but I'm including it because it's genuinely v useful not for personal gain. also Martin Lewis recommends it so you know it's legit

market force - a mystery shopping site where you can be reimbursed and even paid to go to pubs/restaurants and order things. the catch is you have to do a detailed review afterwards and there might be some tax shenanigans (see Martin Lewis for more details, I file as self employed for taxes anyway). there are other mystery shopping places on the web but I'm hesitant to recommend them because I haven't used them personally.

other tips:

the world food sections in supermarkets are often full of bargains. for example the cheapest place I've found tin cans (chickpeas, chopped tomatoes, pulses of all sorts) is morrisons' world food aisle where they do a 4 for £1 deal on them (i.e. 25p each)

Jack Monroe is the queen of cooking healthy food for cheap, and they have plenty of easy and quick recipes. If you don't already know about them, look them up here - basically all their recipes are on their website for free, because they know what it's like to be poor and hungry
