Olbia Ch F: Martin Landaluce def. Mattia Bellucci [2/WC] 6-4, 6-4 Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
M. Landaluce indeed kept his level high considering what happened in his previous Challenger-level semifinals, going after M. Bellucci's baseline game until the latter lacked options to finish his shots. The Italian might have had fair chances in this match when he had several break points, but they were insufficient for him to shift the moment as M. Landaluce stayed solid with his aggression. As a result, the Spaniard converted 50% of his break points compared to M. Bellucci's non-conversion of his 3 break points.
Furthermore, M. Landaluce's solid play also continued through his service games. Despite scoring just one ace than M. Bellucci's 2, the Spaniard appeared more consistent as he won 77% of his first serve points, 5% more than M. Bellucci. Interestingly, even if he double-faulted twice, the Italian second seed's second serves appeared more vulnerable due to his rushed follow-ups, which faded to 48%, 24% lower than M. Landaluce throughout the match.
Marking M. Landaluce's maiden Challenger-level title of his career and becoming the fifth youngest Spaniard to win such titles apart from the game's greats such as Carlos Alcaraz, Rafael Nadal, Tommy Robredo, and Nicolas Almagro. Furthermore, this title put himself closer in the NextGen Finals race for the end of the year as he became number 8 there, increasing his likelihood to qualify for the tournament as a transition to the next season. However, M. Bellucci withdrew from the Brest Challenger upon his runner-up run, considering the noticeable bandaged thigh during the finals and all the tennis he played this week (including 2 marathon matches in the quarterfinals and semifinals), continuing his Top 100 push toward the end of this portion of the Asian swing. What a milestone, already.

Martin Landaluce, a partner for Alcaraz
Martin Landaluce, a partner for Alcaraz
Martin Landaluce (Madrid, 16 years old) bursts into an outside terrace of the Arthur Ashe and impresses with his physique. There is no trap or cardboard, he says that it comes as standard. His crown is 1.91 tall and from his appearance it could be said that he is an associate of Casper Ruud or one of the vikings Nordics who perform discreetly on the circuit, but it is not like that. M. Bellucci had some fair chances in the second set, but M. Landaluce was proven to be too strong at the end. Despite some fair chances earlier in the set, the latter still held his serves until there were 6 consecutive holds, where the Spaniard started with a double fault before M. Bellucci's preceding backhand to M. Landaluce's error set himself 2 points ahead. However, M. Landaluce still held his serves to 4-3.
Three straight games later, M. Landaluce took advantage of the scoreboard pressure that got into M. Bellucci and scored a forehand down-the-line winner to win the first point. Scoring yet another winner to generate his match point, the Spaniard smashed his way to convert his match point, also taking the second set 6-4 to win his maiden Challenger title.

Almost simultaneously, in Olbia...
Later that evening, the Olbia Challenger final finally took place as the weekend was rain-ridden, which pushed back some play, some of them indoors. As a result, they started the day with the semifinals, where Martin Landaluce first qualified for the finals after stunning seventh seed Matteo Gigante 6-1, 6-3 as the latter seemed off throughout the match. On the other hand, second seed and wild card Mattia Bellucci sought for a Top 100 debut as defeated Dalibor Svrcina 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-3 in another classic. Related or not with the said match, their aggression played a huge part in this match.
M. Landaluce held his serves to 1-0 to start the match, and he already pressed M. Bellucci's second serves as he went after the latter's backhands when he kicked off the next game, which paved the way before having several break points. However, the Italian second seed fumbled them for a massive hold to 1-1 to put himself on the board. Several straight holds later, M. Bellucci scored a working volley to set up his break points, but M. Landaluce recovered by holding his serves to 3-2 thanks to his clutch serving.
Fast-forward to the tenth game, the scoreboard pressure might have gotten to M. Bellucci as his backhand error set up the unseeded Spaniard's lead. Having his 3 game points foiled due to his own errors, including one thanks to M. Landaluce's preceding forehand volley, but another error from the Italian caused the Spaniard to break for the first set 6-4, thus putting himself in the front position of this match.

Troyes Ch QF: Gabriel Debru def. Martin Landaluce [8] 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(5) Match Stats
Tumblr media
📸 ATP official website
Parts of the match suggested that it looked like it was in G. Debru's racquet, except when M. Landaluce was clutch enough in constructing his points to break for the first set and to prolong the third set, but it was insufficient as his finishings were too risky to close some rallies. This was where the former's aggression came in, despite several other risks that entailed, but it allowed him to outhit the Spaniard and stand out by the end of the match. This way, G. Debru generated 11 break points than M. Landaluce's 7, breaking thrice in three sets compared to M. Landaluce's 29% break point conversion rate.
Interestingly, there was a tiny difference between both players on their serves. G. Debru fired a whopping 12 aces compared to M. Landaluce's 2 (putting it to a 6:1 ratio), thus the Frenchman had the slight edge on the first serves with a 68% winning percentage, 5% more than the latter as he proved through some massive holds. However, even though he double-faulted twice, M. Landaluce won 1% more second serve points than G. Debru, whose risky second serves almost cost him some crucial moments, but it did not happen as he stayed consistent following things up on return.
In tomorrow's semifinals, G. Debru will face an in-form qualifier in Lilian Marmousez, who made his mark as he stunned Sandro Kopp, Nicolas Alvarez Varona, and the latest in the quarterfinals, Neil Oberleitner 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(5) after the Austrian was unable to serve for the match at 5-3 in the third set. As both players grow, this could be intriguing in seeing how their offensives fare, as well as how their range consistency could affect their hitting throughout the match. This could be one of the intriguing matches to close the week with before the finals!

G. Debru tried to stay in his moment, but M. Landaluce asked further questions toward the end of the match, which the former responded to as the match went deeper to close. It all started from the third game, where the Frenchman's forehand pass created his break point before he broke to 2-1, which he continued with a service game hold to 3-1. Somehow, G. Debru minimized the gap through a working smash even though M. Landaluce held his serves to 3-2.
Interestingly, due to some risky errors (including a backhand one), M. Landaluce trailed by 2 points even though he held to 5-3, which meant G. Debru had to serve for the match. Somehow, the Spaniard scored a working backhand drop shot to set his one-point lead before taking advantage of G. Debru's succeeding errors, securing his break-back through a forehand pass (5-5). The latter then had 2 break points thanks to his forehand pass to create the first, but M. Landaluce held his serves to 6-5, and the tie-breaker became inevitable to close the match.
During the tie-breaker, a +1 forehand error from G. Debru secured M. Landaluce's mini-break to 4-2 before it was neutralized as the former steadily putting more weight to his shots, aiming after the latter's forehand to make it 4-4. The next few points then saw a mini-break exchange, as G. Debru finished the rally with a cross-court backhand winner, but an unforced error negated the said lead to 5-5. Ultimately, a longer rally to M. Landaluce's forehand error sealed the match for G. Debru, taking the third set 7-6(5) to secure a spot in tomorrow's semifinals.
