Tidbits of History - Guy Named Guerre
Histories “First” Stolen Identity
The Guerre story is like a soap opera. Guerre is accused of stealing from his father and disappears. The new Guerre makes a dispute against his uncle regarding the inheritance of his father. The uncle suspects the new Guerre is an…

Hi Josh,
I finished pentiment yesterday and what an amazing game it was! I loved the visual details and font telling you about the character and how Andreas saw them.
I do have a Burning question on my mind, namely Karl's hat. Does the spoon and the red color combo hold any symbolism for something?
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
The spoon in Karl's hat is a reference to a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder called The Peasant Wedding. The man on the right carrying the tray behind him has a spoon in his hat. This was also referenced in The Return of Martin Guerre (film) by a character who wore a spoon in his hat.

Back on my Fake Cyrano Musical bullshit for a minute--I've always thought it would be really fun to have a song with the members of Roxanne's household, including Ragueaneau and her Duenna, offering their outside perspective on the situation. They gossip about the letters Roxanne's been receiving, recite choice bits that they remember and offer commentary on them, and speculate on the kind of man Christian must be. Maybe Roxanne herself appears briefly with another letter to read, which sets the gossip train off again at full steam. You'd get to develop the relationships in the Robin household, both between the servants themselves and with Roxanne, and provide some levity before things get serious again.

The Return of Martin Guerre (1983). In medieval France, some villagers challenge a man's claim of identity when he (as he says) returns home from some time in the army.
I didn't know much about this case going in, but have read about it pretty compulsively since finishing it. What a fascinating story, and one this movie depicts with a lot of humanity and empathy. It's a mystery, it's a romance, it's a harrowing story about identity and worth, with some pretty killer costuming and a distinct tone. If anything, I do wish though that we'd gotten a bit more of a sense of certain dynamics, but overall, it's a really interesting period crime drama. 8/10.
