whether it was mere imagination or the absence of the familiar annoyance that lingered in richard's gaze when she talked, laura couldn't deny the magnetic pull she felt toward martin. it was as if a gravitational force drew her closer, urging her to bridge the physical distance between them. perhaps it was the genuine interest he showed in their conversation or the way he welcomed her input without reservation. she couldn't dismiss the effects of the five gin and tonics she had consumed either. whatever the reason, laura found herself yearning for his presence and wondered if he shared the same sentiment.

"being an astronaut is a bit overrated," she chuckled bashfully, her eyes fixated on his hands as he skillfully prepared her drink. "most kids dream of becoming astronauts, and sometimes i still wish i had, but having free access to the hayden planetarium is pretty cool," she admitted with a casual shrug, unable to contain her grin when he playfully suggested she was better than him—knowing well that it wasn't true.

with laura perched atop the counter, martin's subtle avoidance did not go unnoticed. she didn't receive her drink directly from his hands, instead, he slid it down the bar with the finesse of a seasoned professional. it was endearing and obvious, yet she couldn't help but feel a surge of flustered anticipation. raising the glass to her lips, she let out a soft, appreciative hum as the delightful concoction touched her tongue. "now this is a drink," she complimented, her gaze returning to his hands once more.

with her inhibitions lowered, laura found it easier to take the next step, to utter the words she had been holding back. "marty, look at me," she softly urged, setting her drink down beside her on the counter. reaching over, she took hold of one of his hands and gently pulled him toward her, creating a space between her legs. she felt daring—needy, a combination of the drink he had crafted and the length of time since her last meal contributing to the innocent flirtation escalating swiftly. laura hoped he would let her know if she was being too forward. raising his hand in front of her, she pretended to examine it, a coy smile playing on her lips. "so, talented hands, what other wonders can they create besides making amazing drinks?" she inquired, her lips grazing teasingly over his fingers.

"Astronaut, that is a great dream." He nodded, "You weren't far off, maybe you don't get to be in the stars physically but you get to be in them spiritually." He gestured with his hands above them again, not wanting to come off too lame with his words. "Hey, I didn't even pass physics in high school so either way you're better than me." He chuckled, enjoying how easily the conversation flowed between them even though it definitely felt they were from two worlds.

Behind the bar, he had started to pick up a few bottles, a measure in his other hand as he started creating a cocktail for her with pointed precision, muscle memory of years gone by. He glanced over for just a moment and the measure slipped (thankfully empty) into the ice well. He had seen the way she had placed herself on top of the bar, easy for his eyeline and quite distracting all in all. "Sorry, slip of the finger." He chuckled as he played it off as just a mistake, not at all that he looked at a married woman in any way but platonic.

"I-uh, no, no problem. It's not work to me." He nodded as he shook the cocktail, trying not to make contact with her before pouring it into a glass for her and sliding it over the bar before wiping his hands on a towel. "Enjoy, just a little something I used to make." He opened up another beer for himself, bringing it to his lips and drinking for perhaps a little too long as he tried to find something to do with his hands and his eyes that weren't just ogling at Laura.

ohhhhh ummmm martiiiin in this au struggles a lot with living in nightvale. he hates the way jon and cecil click instantly and especially when jon tries to explain that they are two parts of a whole and martins like cool!! we end the world and jon meets his soulmate love it. so theres a lot of tension between martin and jon and cecil and he ends up leaning on carlos as like an older brother figure who is totalyl normal and willing to show him the ropes of this town when the eye guys are being freaks

um but the longer martin is in nightvale the more and more he hates it and desperately wants to take jon and leave he hates it there soooooo much

SH NO SHUT UP Georgie and melanie take jon out one evening to a nice rollerskating club because honestly Jon you NEED to have fun once in a while. It's 80's themed and you're gonna love it!!!
