This is the tale of Martan 51. Before I fled from the apps, I received this unsolicited message ("intro") from a dude I had never interacted with. This message, while still not the worst one I've received, really exemplifies the kind of shit I get from cishet dudes. Enjoy!

Babylon’s Ashes, Chapters 50 & 51
Humiliation was always better than violence. To beat a man—even to beat a man to death—was at least proof that you took him seriously as a man.
It’s so nice that Marco himself reiterates that from his own point of view the way he was defeated was humiliating for him. It makes me feel even better about it.
Also, I finally understand what the epilogue in the last book was for. It wasn’t about the Martians who were on the ship, they are most likely going to be the focus of the next book. That, and/or whatever the alien station is going to do because the railguns were blown up.
No, the important part was what happened to the ship at the end. I originally wrote it off as the protomolecule doing weird shit, because these were the Martan faction we’re assuming currently have the protomolecule, but instead it was foreshadowing for the way the Free Navy was defeated.
So, most likely the rogue Martians haven’t lost control of the protomolecule, at least yet. But I bet it will still be an important part of the next book and not just a MacGuffin that gets Holden personally interested in the fight. Considering that we were explicitly introduced to a scientist who was going to go to the Martian side to study the protomolecule, it would be a shame for him to not have anything to do.
