it's the biggest day of your life. you're finally getting married to the love of your life. 

the one who loved you for you. who loved every inch and part of you. who shared many memories with you. the one whom you were sure to spend the rest of your life with. 

you and your partner have finally exchanged your vows and rings. the night was still young and the now-married couple was about to share their first dance of the evening. your partner takes your hand ever so delicately and guides you to the dance floor. suddenly i guess i'm in love by clinton kane starts playing. your now-husband holds you gently in his arms as you sway left and right, smiling at one another. you peak over your husband's shoulder to only find your best friend making his way to the dance floor as he mouths the words to the first verse. 

"oh, i'm obsessed, with the way your head is laying on my chest, how you love the things i hate about myself,"

your eyes grew wide. you weren't expecting your childhood friend, spencer reid and his fellow workmates to show up so suddenly at your wedding. you hadn't seen him in a while because he was busy with his job since he's a federal agent with the fbi's behvaioural analysis unit. of course, he was the one who had to let you know that he wouldn't be able to show up on your big day. spencer flashes a smile at you as you feel tears starting to form in your eyes. you missed him like crazy and you were so happy to see him. spencer walks up to the dance floor where you and your man are dancing and he still mouths the words since you two both knew he wasn't a great singer.

you and your husband keep on dancing as the guests watch you both dance the night away. your husband was having a good time, knowing that he's now going to spend his whole life with you. he couldn't stop smiling at you and you would smile back at him. your man turned his attention to the band who was singing the song live whilst you watched spencer who was swaying side to side and he mouthed the final verse of the song the same time the band did...

"and darling this is more than anything i've felt before, you're everything that i want but i didn't think i'd find someone who is worth the wait of all the years of my heartbreak but i know now i found the one i love"

you and spencer locked eyes and as he mimed the final verse, you could've felt something erupting inside of you. he lowered his gaze and let the band continue the song till the end. the song finally came to an end and the guests cheered and applauded for the live band. the band politely thanked the crowd and slowly the other couples gathered on the dance floor to slow dance with their lovers. you continued to dance with your man, ignoring this foreign feeling you were feeling inside of you. the look spencer gave you felt familiar but you thought it was wrong to think about it when you were dancing with your husband. 

"may i share this dance with y.n?" 

you turn around to find spencer, standing with his right hand out, waiting for your husband to let you dance with your best friend. your partner nods and smiles as he pats spencer's back. he hands your hand to spencer and goes to share a dance with his mother. you're now all alone with spencer as he held you close to him. you breathe in his familiar scent as you gently close your eyes. you definitely missed this smell of his. the smell of coffee, amber and sandalwood. you lift your head to look at him, and he was already staring down at you. an innocent blush crept down on your cheeks. 

"missed me?" he asked with his voice hoarse like it always was. oh, how you missed the sound of his voice too. 

you nodded and smiled at him. "i'm glad you and the team were able to make it in time. thank you spence." 

he spun you around and held you tightly enough. you laid your head on his chest, feeling a huge wave of comfort washing over you. something you've never felt but definitely craved for it. you felt secure in his arms. he calmly hummed to the classical music playing in the back as he rested his chin on top of your head, careful to not ruin your wedding hairstyle. you closed your eyes and could hear his heartbeat. you realised how your heartbeat matched his and you found yourself smiling. this foreign feeling you felt earlier came back and you only felt butterflies going sideways inside of you. you looked up to him once again and you both stared at one another's eyes for what felt like hours. his eyes looked like they wanted to tell you something but you couldn't figure out what. 

spencer spoke up, breaking the silence lingering between you. "y.n, i have something to tell y-" 

was the only thing he was able to say before your husband came, asking spencer if he could have you back so he could share one more dance with you. spencer smiled politely and handed your hand to your partner. your eyes followed spencer's and you found yourself in your man's arm as you watched spencer slowly walking away, ignoring the worried looks from his team. 

"you okay there, love?" your husband asked as you rested your chin on his shoulder, staring at your almost gone best friend. 

you nodded silently as tears rolled down your cheeks. you tried to not make a sound as your heart broke in many pieces. spencer was long gone from your vision and you felt loneliness creeping in. you didn't feel safe in your man's arms just like how you felt in spencer's. you knew it was too late for being honest about how you truly felt about him...

all these years, you've ignored your feelings for spencer because you knew he wanted something else in life which was to protect his country and risk his life every single day. you knew he'd be busy with his federal life and that both of you wouldn't work out as a couple. that's why you looked elsewhere and found your now husband. 

on the other hand, spencer loved you to the moon and back but he knew it was already too late for him to confess his true feelings. he had to let you go because his happiness was yours. he knew you were happy with the life you were about to live as a new wedded woman. he wish things turned out different so you could've been his and not a stranger's. he thought telling you how he felt on your wedding day would've been perfect but he didn't want to be a home wrecker so he knew better. as he walked out of the venue, his heart broke in a million of pieces as he cried uncontrollably. he got into his car and drove off, somewhere far where he knew he won't see you ever again...
