"Welcome… to Perdition!"
Red lights, disco ball throwing flashes all over the floor, the booth onstage glowing as the fog machine poured out heavy billows of low-hanging clouds to drift down to the dancefloor-slash-skate rink. All that, and Harry in the DJ's seat, devil horns on his head as he adjusted the levels, wearing a red suit that almost glowed under the stage-lighting. All-too-at home both in the spotlight and yet not the focus at all.
"He's never gonna get tired of that, is he?" MJ nudged Flash, arm-in-arm with him.
Her jumpsuit glittered with sequins in the colorful shadows, and Flash grinned.
"Well, he's got the hairline for it!" Interrupted by none other than Peter Parker himself; skating backwards in a circle around them with so little effort it made Flash want to roll his eyes.
"What happened to 'I don't know how to skate'?!" He gestured at Peter, incredulous.
MJ laughed beside him.
Peter shrugged, and put his hands behind his head, swaying his feet with the rhythm of the music. Didn't even have to look to avoid the couple behind him, smoothly curving himself around them in an arc unimpeded by the quality of the rental skates.
Then he smirked.
Showoff.
MJ poked Flash's side. "Hey, stud."
He tilted his head quizzically toward her.
"Slingshot me?" Her expression playful, false lashes glittering under the red lights.
Flash smiled at her, and obliged.
When he let her go, she zoomed after Peter, crouching low over her skates—she did this all the time, and you could tell.
If it had been anyone else, she probably would have knocked her target flat on his ass, but Peter just opened his arms and caught her. The two of them spun in a tight circle together, arms around each other…
Flash watched them a moment, skating slowly himself, then sighed.
Seemed nice, what they had.
Over the speakers, Harry spoke—lowered his voice, all drama (and maybe a hint of sultry if one could be so generous) as he said, "It's early in the night, so let's take it slow. Ladies, fellas, and everyone else…"
Flash tuned him out and headed toward the curtained doorways that led out into the front.
It was cold outside, the sun long-since set.
In the summer, when the college-goers left the city and the younger kids went on break with all those long hot days to kill and nothing better to do, Perdition opened during the day; but summer was over and the kids in school, so the hours had shortened and shifted later—8 pm to 1 am until the heat rolled around again, barring event-bookings.
Nightclub hours, as Harry liked to call it.
Maybe it was a weird business model, but it worked for them. The venue was too small for large crowds anyway, so the little pockets of college kids and aging queens and whoever else happened to wander in during the cooler months suited them just fine.
Flash leaned against the wall beside the front doors and sighed, his breath clouding the air around his face.
Someone must have been smoking out on the sidewalk recently, and the residual smell made him curl his nose.
He could just hear the music coming from inside, loud enough to escape through the flimsy front doors. Persistent driving bass, and the pavement lit up by their marquee; the big neon letters spelling out one more word for their eternal damnation.
Perdition.
A few people drifted past here and there, but for the most part the evening was quiet.
Flash almost wished something would happen.
Almost.
It was that self-destructive streak in him, trying to push its way out through his chest, mouth, hands, wherever it could get out. Looking for anything—some kind of confrontation, some kind of disaster, whatever would get him into survival mode, feed him adrenaline, keep him occupied instead of fidgeting outside under the city lights waiting for something to drop while his thoughts ate at him like Prometheus' eagle.
(And sure, maybe he needed therapy.)
Flash took a deep breath, counted to ten with his fingers tapping at his thighs for each number, one at a time… Back inside.

So, I don't mention it much but over on Reddit, I'm one of the moderators for /r/blockbustervideo/ mostly because I used to work at one from 1995-2000. (And I am still getting recognized as "The Blockbuster Guy" in town, to this day.) Someone had come to that subreddit researching a project they're working on, which I gather is supposed to be a recreation of what a typical Blocbuster would have been like in September of 2001. I volunteered to braindump for as many of their questions as I could.
a blueprint of the store layout -- See Above.
movie titles -- By September of 2001 I had left show business, so I wouldn't know exactly what would have been on the shelves then, but at the time, Hollywood was still working on an approximate 6 month delay after movies left the theater before they would hit video shelves.
how were the movies arranged -- New Releases would run along the back wall in what I used to refer to as "Blockbuster Alphabetical": some films were expected to be in high demand, so for popular titles, you might have as many as 4-5 shelves worth with 8 coverbox facings each, dominating its shelving unit. If you had a bunch of these big titles clustered at one spot in the alphabet, other less popular titles might have to be shuffled up or down in the alphabetical order to make room for them.
what snacks were at the counter -- I don't remember exact details of my store, but it did look sort of like this photo
what color were the shelves/what did the shelves look like -- The shelves in my particular store looked like the ones in this badly photoshopped stock photo. New Release wall was 8 shelves high, usually in 8 foot sections. Library titles were on A-Frame shelves six shelves high. In both cases, they were particle board construction with beige vinyl laminate, the shelves being high-backed and slightly angled. They were deep enough to hold 3 amray VHS cases and 1 cover box comfortably, 4 if you pushed it. The shelf ends of the A-Frame Library section shelves would have rectangular ends grooved with horizontal slots that lucite endcap shelving could be hung from them.
color and patterning on the carpet -- Ours had no pattern, just royal blue like in this photo or the previous one.
music playing -- As far as I know, Blockbusters didn't do in-store music. there were ceiling moutned CRT Televisions (as seen in this photo) hooked to a video player at the front of the store, and each month the home office would send a 2 hour recording of the Entertainment Tonight Blockbuster Network which was mix of movie previews, hollywood gossip, and commercials for Blockbuster and its partnering sponsors.
anything on the walls -- New Release wall was painted yellow with "New Release" and Blockbuster logos in blue. We had several backlit poster holders to hang movie posters in for the titles Now Available. Behind the checkout There was a big hanging blue sign with 4 sections. One section was titles comming soon, the next was newly arrived titles, the third was pricing information, and the fourth was for ads for whatever in-store promotion was going on at the time. For the first 3 sections mentioned, the sign was set up with little inch high channels and corporate would send us these perforated black vinyl strips screenprinted in orange and white lettering.
description of any decorations / ornaments -- In addition to the standard acoustic tile drop ceiling, portions of our ceiling were dropped further with woodwork and mirorred panels, and were set up with chase lights to look like a Hollywood Marquee. On the shelves for the game rentals, we had colored cardboard inserts that made it easier tell where the section for one console ended an the next began.
what signage was in the windows -- In my store, which was a freestanding building, most of the walls were actually windows from knee-height to ceiling. We would be given vinyl window clings to hang, but they were only printed on the outside.
what did it smell like (haha seriously) -- The "Blockbuster Aroma" is equal parts unpopped microwave popcorn and offgassing from whatever plastics Amray uses in the manufacture of their video cases.
what was your uniform -- There were official store supplied polo shirts, blue with yellow collar and embroidered with the logo, but if an employee coudn't afford to pay the price to buy one, plain blue polos were also permitted. Khaki pants or shorts completed the uniform. When I first hired on, they were slowly phasing out the engraved blue and yellow nametag pins in favor of laynards with cardboard badges in plastic sleeves. The badges woud be changed out as different in store promotions cycled through.

Every year in the late summer, one of our favorite bridal shows comes to town. The Big Fake Wedding is an event like no other! Set up like a real wedding complete with a real couple renewing their vows, a bridal party, and event gorgeous reception, this event allows couples to see their potential vendors in action!
This year The Big Fake Wedding New England was held at Willowdale Estate, a beautiful stone venue on Boston’s North Shore. We made the trip and it was SO worth it! The bride and groom were precious, the ceremony just perfect, and the reception set up was just gorgeous. Each table was decorated differently by a different assortment of vendors using unique elements. We are all about the different table numbers and escort cards ❤

Today’s shoot is all about white and copper wedding styling, and it’s so beautiful and elegant. White and copper make a timeless pair. They shine like no other, and are the perfect match for a winter wedding.
Copper has become a really popular choice for wedding styling in recent years, and looks amazing for a winter wedding. Think about how it will glisten and shine under the twinkle of ambient lighting. Together with crisp white that resembles snow, this is an amazing colour palette.
Luxe Feel
This winter white and copper wedding styling has a wonderful luxe feel about it. The cosy vibe is modern and inviting, and these ideas offer something unique and different to the traditional colours of winter weddings we see at this time of year.
The styling team used an array of pretty green foliage which really pops against the white. I love the tablescape design laid out on a fur table cover – it looks so cosy!
