This page is my roman empire ive been thinking abt this all the time since reading it.

Like yeah Eren and the Shiganshina gang were only kids when wall Maria was breached, but so were the warriors. The marleyan warriors started training at the ages FIVE TO SEVEN. They were genuinely pre-adolescent, kindergarten aged children. Then they're given MASSIVE responsibilty and were shipped off to a titan infested island in the middle of the fucking ocean, with instruction to kill an entire society of people they had been brainwashed to believe were a race of devils. Thats not even mentioning that THEY THEMSELVES were a part of that race!!!

Like yeah, what they did was fucking abhorrent, BUT THEY WERE BRAINWASHED NINE YEAR OLDS!!! 😭

i find myself compelled to share (completely unsolicited) my aot au. gird your loins for a tangent

so i don’t care for the marley stuff. it’s not poorly written or what have you i just don’t like it. i firmly believe the story coulda stopped when they got to the ocean. eren be looking out like “there’s more out there”. cut. end credits. leave it open ended

but what of the suspicious marlean script? where did reiner and co come from? why is eren riddled with issues? unless you wanted to cut that shit out entirely, my brain came up with a thing

once again, i do not care for “the world is still alive” for aot. so instead all that shit is actually the royal family struggling to maintain their hold on the people through secret societies and fear. can’t recall to what extent it’s like that originally, but this makes them the big baddies. all the shit that happened in the past did happen, but everyone else genuinely perished. the walls are it

the royal family is behind the serum. some experimentation that gotta outta hand. im not sure if some extremists got a hold of it or if someone is just going on a wild power trip, but its a problem now. and it becomes more of a problem the more the corp gets involved. they really decided to fight fire with fire like bruh

they speak marlian cause it’s a dead language. like all those frat houses and secret societies that speak latin. ymir is still from the past but reiner and them are part of this rogue faction or what have ye

so i would change up the timeline a bit. they go to shiganshina but in the basement they find out everything (both the og reiss and ackerman timelines and my wild new shit) and decide to go fix that shit before the ocean. and they do. and it’s great. and eren gets his dramatic final line. end credits

but this time the final line doesn’t mean people, it means lakes of fire and plains of ice and jungles and canyons and obnoxiously flat places like kansas. it ties it all back to what armin said episode one

(also, bonus, eren doesn’t become a genocidal maniac in this version. seem good? neat)

if i did write anything it would probably be levi pov cause him, jean and armin are my boys but i consume far more eruri then jearmin in recent years. (this also means task one would be trying to figure out a way both armin and erwin could live). i also….haven’t really paid attention to anything since shiganshina. i barely paid attention to historia’s stuff and then i only know how shiganshina ended because when it was happening in the manga (yes it’s been that long) i was a moody preteen afraid of losing my favorite armin so i just made my sister tell me what happened

but if you’ve actually read this far let me know what you think?? is it too generic? or are you like me and was like, yo this do be the main cast these yeehaws gonna live? when you were first consuming le content how did you think it would end?

Maybe unpopular opinion: I didn't want to have another spin-off of levi despite loving him very much.

This is what I wanted to have:

• hange's, miche/mike's and nanaba's past

• how petra and co were chosen to be levi's squad

• training of the warrior cadets (reiner and co gen) and more of them (especially galliard brothers)

• the 5 year gap where reiner and co were in paradis but what happened in marley (more of gabi, zofia, udo and falco; pieck and porco; colt and zeke (as mentor); or more of the situation of the eldia in marley)

• veteran trio (hange, erwin, miche/mike) or also with moblit and nile in the training corps and their first expedition outside (except nile ofc)

Not malicious but I find it so juicy that the Marley Trio (Reiner Bert Annie) had to suffer through the starvation and violence and overcrowding that they themselves created within Paradis bc of losing Wall Maria to the Titans right alongside their victims likeeeeeee they end off no better than their victims! They’re the daggers yet they’re also the ones who end up wounded!

Gn! Hange x Gn! reader

Hange picked up half of the sandwich they were holding, tossing it into the air with a quick flick of their wrist. A nearby seagull swooped down, catching the morsel mid-flight and swallowing it whole. Hange grinned, a glimmer of childlike delight dancing in their eyes. "Did you see that??" They turned to you, completely oblivious to the longing in your gaze.

"Yeah, it was cool," you replied, forcing a smile. You handed them your untouched, fresher sandwich. "But this one is not for the seagulls," you added with a teasing lilt. Hange gave a playful pout in response.

"Alright, alright! I'll eat it." They reached for the sandwich, sheepishly fluttering their lashes in mock guilt. "Though I probably shouldn’t. The waves are making me dizzy. I feel like throwing up" they confessed, a hint of vulnerability in their voice.

You hummed thoughtfully, glancing toward the open sea. "Yeah, Onyankopon did warn us about 'motion sickness' earlier." Your eyes flicked back to Hange, who was leaning forward, elbows resting on the ship’s railing, their focus lost in the endless expanse of waves. God, they looked breathtaking in that grey suit, the sunlight bouncing off the fabric. "You look good," you muttered, your voice barely above a whisper. "grey suits you."

You rarely let compliments escape your bitter lips, but something about this moment made it impossible to hold back. How could you not acknowledge the beauty before you? You would risk everything for just one kiss. Their cheeks flushed, a rare sight, and for a moment, Hange’s usual boisterousness was replaced with a shy smile. "Eh? Are you flirting with me?" they asked, the uncharacteristic shyness tinging their voice.

You scoffed, reaching out and breaking off a piece of the sandwich they were still holding. Tossing it to another nearby seagull, you watched the bird glide away before responding. "You wish," you teased, though your voice betrayed a softness as the scent of saltwater lingered in the air, painting the moment in something more tender.

Hange’s eyes sparkled with that familiar, mischievous glint—one you hadn’t seen in a long time. Not like this, at least. Genuinely.

"Do I?" They turned back to the waves, but their question lingered, pulling at the edges of something deeper between you both.

You swallowed. The words tumbled out before you could stop them. "I wish you did," you admitted quietly, your voice nearly lost in the wind.

Hange froze for a moment, their head tilting slightly as if they hadn’t quite heard you. "Mhm?" they hummed, turning back to face you.

You smirked, leaning into the railing, the distant port of Marley coming into view. "I lied earlier," you said.

Hange raised an inquisitive brow, their interest piqued. "About what?"

You turned your gaze toward the horizon, feeling the tension melt away with the rhythm of the ocean. "I don’t think grey is your color."

They blinked, momentarily confused, before you continued, the words falling easily now.

"You look good in everything."

The grin that spread across Hange’s face was beautiful, lighting up their whole expression in a way that made your chest tighten. That carefree, unburdened version ofthem—the one that made your heart ache with nostalgia—was back. Even if just for a fleeting moment.

"Oh, now you’re definitely flirting," they accused, leaning in closer with a mock-serious tone, eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Aren’t you?"

You chuckled softly, the sound mingling with the crashing of the waves, your heart pounding in your chest as you turned to meet their gaze.

"I am."

Hange’s grin widened, their eyes glinting with a mischievous curiosity. The soft rhythm of the ocean waves hitting the ship filled the quiet space between you, the sea breeze ruffling their short hair. They leaned in slightly, the air around you charged with the weight of unspoken words.

"Are you really flirting with me?" they asked, though their voice was missing its usual playfulness, tinged with something deeper now. Their face was closer, warm breath ghosting over your skin.

Your pulse quickened, but you didn’t look away. The moment seemed to stretch endlessly, the unspoken tension wrapping around both of you. Marley’s port loomed in the distance, but it felt irrelevant—far removed compared to the electricity humming between you two.

"Yes," you breathed, the words slipping out before you could stop them. "I am."

Hange's hands clasped the railing, and their eyes softened. For once, there was no witty answer or playful reply. Instead, the moment hung heavy in the air.

Before you could second-guess yourself, you leaned in, closing the distance between you. You captured their lips slowly. The kiss was soft at first, exploratory, as though testing the waters. But then something shifted. Hange responded, pressing closer with a certainty that made your heart race.

The world around you fell away. The wind, the tang of salt in the air, the distant cries of the seagulls—all of it faded into the background. There was only the feel of their lips on yours, the slow, steady rhythm of their breath mingling with your own. It felt like time had slowed, the pull between you undeniable and all-consuming.

When you finally pulled back, your heart was racing, and Hange's breath came in shallow bursts. Then, in typical fashion, Hange broke the silence with a grin that made your chest ache.

"Okay," they whispered, their voice barely above the sound of the waves. "Now you're definitely flirting!"

You smiled, your cheeks flushing warmly. "Yeah," you admitted. "Guess I am."

"you said it wasn't gonna rain!"

eren throws you a side glance, rolling his eyes in the process. "and you chose to listen."

after sticking your tongue out at him, you both turn your attention to the problem at hand. standing under the short storefront awning, you and eren hold numerous packages of bread in your arms, watching the rain pelt the cobblestones before you.

"well," he says, peering down the street. "let's go."

you furrow your eyebrows as you watch him dart through the rain and under the awning of the store across the street. having been in marley for 2 years, you've gotten used to the modern life it provided. yet you couldn't help but imagine if this were on paradis, you wouldn't feel the overpowering sense of dread in your chest.

"are you crazy?" you laugh, teeth beginning to chatter.

eren waves you over. "some say so!"

you meet his stare across the way, giggling to yourself at his brown hair stuck to his forehead.

"quit laughing at me," eren scolds before smiling widely. "you'll look worse than me in a second."

"impossible!" looking up at the dark clouds above, you raise your shoulders to your ears when you step out into the downpour, footsteps quick as you run towards him.

you knock into eren when you make it under the covering, making him look down at you. have his eyes always been this green?

"ready?" he challenges, one foot already in the rain. then, he takes off, and you're not far behind.

your laughter and squeals echo down the empty road, and eren can't help but look back at you in admiration. you smile at a family ducking for cover across from you, their bewildered expressions urging you to run faster to catch up with eren.

turning the corner into the street of eateries, eren notices the familiar tune of a song his mother used to hum when he was a child, flowing out of a nearby restaurant. eren glances over his shoulder at you trailing behind him, and then at the empty seating area outside the restaurant.

you barely notice him slowing down in front of you, staring at the ground to ensure you don't slip.

now, the suggestion may get him a punch in the arm, but it’s worth a shot. so, eren calls your name before you run into him, and you quickly slow, forehead creased as to why he's standing in the pouring rain and not running.

"let’s dance," and you look at him like he’s insane, moving to punch him in the arm. but, all he does is laugh, taking the packages out of your arms, and dropping the recently purchased loaves on one of the tables under the large awning. he moves toward you, grabbing your hands and pulling you back into the rain.

"eren!" you scold, jaw slack at the discarded bread. "the others will be at your throat for hindering dinner."

"i know!" he laughs, moving his hands to your waist, urging you to wrap your arms around his neck. you shake your head, your suppressed smile finally breaking across your face.

"come on! dance with me."

and so, in the middle of the sidewalk, at 5:59pm on a sunday night, in the rain, the two of you slow dance for no reason other than to soothe the burning love you have for each other.

it is one of the last times you see him.

headcanons: snk characters at a metal concert

(+ unsollicited biased opinions on them)

Mikasa: glares at anyone who touches eren, which means everyone in this context. subsequently, everyone has a crush on her (she doesn't notice, bless her)

Armin: *indistinct yelling* you might think he's terrified, but actually he's singing along. repressed goth/secret metalhead Armin my beloved don't even @ me

Eren: tried to start a wall of death before the band even got on stage. will get thrown out by security during the first song, because of course he will

Erwin: accidently ends up crowdsurfing, yells "ONWARDS!" and ends up near the stage in record time. the singer lets him up and goes "damn can you join our band?" but joke's on them, they're his band now and he's the new leader

Hange: pogoes enthusiastically without having a clue what's going on, falls at least 3 times bc they're going counter clockwise in the circling pit, somehow doesn't die

Levi: keeps getting dragged out of the pit by tank-like well-meaning fans who think he's a lost child, when really, he's the reason behind Hange not dying in there (also dw, he snatched their glasses ten seconds in, they're safe)

Bertholdt: boy's got a pink wig on and has been instructed to stay still as he's the designated meeting point for everyone else in the crowd (curse of being tall, i don't make the rules hon)

Reiner: remember that tank like fan from before? that's his kind, picking up confused/hurt/anxious-looking people out of the too violent crowd movement... that he started himself

Annie: told everyone she was staying at home. is actually right against the front barriers, enjoying the show without having to socialize. antisocial queen

Sacha: missed most of the concert because she was eating on the sidelines + frantically trying to get a hold of Connie who was supposed to get here hours ago

Connie: missed all of the concert because he got the date wrong, is currently having the best nap of his life. a bummer, but good for you buddy get that rest

Jean: got in a fight with Eren during the first chorus because one shoved the other.... in a mosh pit, during a metal concert. (they're getting thrown out together. idiots.)

Who's in Paradis?

ok so the main difference in my au from other is that the veterans and the ackermann family all have to stay in paradis (veterans is just cuz im lazy, ackermanns is because how would they be important at all in Marley if they cant turn into titans)

Reiner - Reiner pretty much plays the role of Eren just with a difference mindset. also Reiner still has mommy issues (Karina survives the fall unfortunately )!!

Bertholdt - pretty much plays the role of Armin however Reiner is the one who got bullied when they were kids. also Bert's dad dies in the fall unfortunately traumatizing him

Annie - Annie still has daddy issues her father heavily pushes her into the Corps after the fall

Porco - Porco lwk bullied Reiner when they were little BUT he'll tag along w the gang in joining the Corps after the fall because he wants to be just like his big brother

Marcel - Marcel and Pieck and Zeke were all in the same training corps together about 2 years before the fall !! (Marcel and Pieck are 5 years older than RBA + Porco while Zeke is 7 years older)

Pieck - Pieck lwk gonna play a bigger role than Marcel hesgonnadie but she is pretty much everyones big sister and also really badass as a survey corp. also her best friend (Zeke) mysteriously disappeared in 845 (like right before the fall)

Zeke - Zeke mysteriously disappeared in 845 i wonder what could be going on there. his grandparents were pissed at him for joining the Survey Corps despite being told to join the Military Police (he could have easily joined too he was 3rd in his class)

Mikasa - yes Mikasa is still here, and she unfortunately did get sold into trafficking at age 9. she escaped though she's a badass and now she's in the corps (dw Eremikas Eren still saves her just in a different way)

Erwin, Hange, Levi and all the other veterans and higher ups in the Paradis military are in Paradis

Who's in Marley?

Eren - Eren has the Attack Titan because Marley never loses possession of it in this AU!! Also he gets sent to Paradis which is kinda funny cuz his dad by some miracle came from there and told him right before he got sent!! Eren kinda knew that he just assumed Grisha was fucking stupid (this is the one part of my story thats really farfetched BUT the ackermann family told Dina that the outside world is advanced. Dina died on the way there if you cant tell)

Armin - Armin as expected has the Colossal. Him and Eren are inseparable but that will change FAST when they get to the island

Jean - Jean is the armored titan

Marco - Marco is the jaw titan but not for long Ymir eats him yes she's still here

Historia - Historia is the female titan and DOES NOT get sent to Paradis until 850 (and thats where she gets into a forbidden love situation w Ymir). also she has special scream/titan creation powers just like Zeke !!

Connie - Connie is the cart titan

Floch - Floch is the beast titan (he's a fox if you're wondering)

Sasha - Sasha will SUPPOSEDLY inherit the jaw titan

I love this au where Erwin and Zeke grow up together in Marley so much. They would be inseparable and always do everything together. However, they would most likely drift apart as they get older as their views are too different and can't seem to understand each other anymore.

I’m thinking about Marley dehumanising against Eldians from Paradis as “Island Devils” yet their famed Eldian War Chief Zeke is dragged through the city and cheered and has flowers thrown at him, I’m thinking about how Zeke despite being everything Marley wanted in a man and a Commander was still dehumanized as an Eldian, only he was elevated to an idealised, inhuman half machine half god instead of a base animal, as if no matter where he went he could not escape the fact that he is who he is.
