slow dance🫶

pairing : mark feehily x fem!sister reader

summary : mark's younger sister, selena had just gotten married to her husband, cillian and instead of having the traditional mother/daughter and father/daughter dance, selena decided to surprise her brother by having a brother/sister dance instead.

warnings : wedding, cute brother/ sister moment, fluff

a/n : i have already written this once before but because it is a happy and sweet one-shot, i decided to write it again but for mark from westlife because he deserves so much happiness! also, even though it is a happy one-shot, it'll be written in italics just because i think it fits the theme.

cecelia and cillian fitzgerald, childhood sweethearts, had just gotten married in an amazing ceremony. which meant it was now time for the fun part of the wedding, the reception. the husband and wife had just finished their first dance which was spectacular and something that everyone adored and found to be the sweetest thing ever as they watched the two hug as they step-touched before just surprising everyone towards the end by going all out ballroom style.

whilst cecelia and cillian were happily dancing their first dance as mr and mrs fitzgerald, they were secretly devising the plan of having a brother/sister dance instead of cecelia dancing with her and mark's parents. of course, this wasn't something that mark knew about, only cecelia, cillian and the parents. and the reason was because cecelia just really wanted to surprise her older brother. and also have him be a part of the day because he was also a part of the family, even though he was one of cillian's best men.

mark was just minding his own business, quietly swaying side-to-side with his own partner, cailean, as the song that he thought was going to be played during the father/daughter dance was played through the dj's speakers. mark and cailean were in their own little world entirely when mark felt himself being nudged repeatedly. he wouldn't ever admit it when something was annoying him so he just ignored it, just hoping that whoever was nudging him would just stop. however, he slowly realised the colour of the dress that the person nudging him was wearing. it was a white wedding dress, which meant that it was cecelia that was nudging him and immediately, he turned away from cailean in confusion. mark thought that their dad and cecelia were having their father/daughter dance right now.

"...cece? why aren't you dancing with dad right now?" mark questions, hoping that the entire wedding party and guests that had survived the late evening wedding ceremony and reception weren't staring at the brother and sister

"i'm not having the first dance with dad and cillian isn't having the first dance with mum," cecelia whispered back as mark's eyes widened in shock

"what? why?" mark questioned, letting go of his own partner's hand as cecelia smiled, grabbing her brother's hand and asking him to come and follow her

even though mark was very confused, he just trusted his sister and went along with the tricks that it seemed his sister was pulling. i mean, if that's what she wanted to do on her wedding then, by all means, go for it, it is your day after all.

he then realised he and cecelia were in the middle of the dance floor whilst their childhood song started to play over the speakers. replacing the song that had been chosen for the father/daughter dance.

"cece, what are you doing?!" mark spoke in absolute fear now as cecelia's face changed as she grabbed a tight hold of her brother's hands

"i decided to have a brother/sister dance rather than a father/daughter dance. cillian decided to have a sister/brother dance as well rather than a mother/son dance. c'mon now, marky, it's our song! don't you wanna dance to dancing queen with your younger sister on her wedding day?!" cecelia smiled as mark's face brightened as tears welled in his eyes and nodded his head as everyone cheered which made the brother and sister giggle

so, as soon as the song started, mark and cecelia just started screaming the lyrics to abba's popular song, dancing queen. however, it wasn't just any version. it was, of course, the movie version of dancing queen that was playing. the brother and sister were just jumping around, swinging each others' hands everywhere, twirling with each other, laughing. just having the time of their lives as they celebrated what was an amazing wedding ceremony between two amazing people who were in love.

cillian, cecelia's husband and mark's brother-in-law watched on the side with a sweet smile on his face as he watched the brother and sister laugh and dance to the song they performed all the time as kids. and then later on at westlife's wild dreams tour. when cecelia and cillian were planning their wedding, they and their parents straight away decided that instead of having their first dances with each of their parents and in-laws, cecelia and cillian were going to dance with mark. one song each that either reminds the other of him or will be a special song proceeding after the wedding for the pair. for cecelia, she chose dancing queen by abba but the movie version because it was a song that the siblings would always perform and just sing and dance to when they were younger. it was also the movie they'd always watch together. however, at the last minute, instead of dancing with mark or mark's partner cailean, with the two father's permission, cillian decided to instead dance with his new niece, layla, the daughter of mark and cailean. and of course, the new husband was granted permission and he and layla danced to my wish by rascal flatts which caused the sweetest moment of the entire evening and some of the sweetest photos of the entire wedding.

towards the last minutes of cecelia and mark's dance, cillian with layla in his arms slithered up behind the siblings. mark's smile grew tenfold as he moved away from his sister and excitedly gave his new brother-in-law a hug as well as a sweet kiss to his daughter's nose. they shared a laugh before moving out of the hug as the four started to dance together in a little circle, whilst cailean and the rest of the wedding party watched on.

"you and layla enjoying the night so far, mark?" cillian whispers as mark and layla nod their head, smiling sweetly as cillian smiles back in contentment

"mhm, it's been a lovely night, cillian," mark whispers back since layla still couldn't form proper sentences yet as layla then pouted as she started to realise the song that had started to play over the speakers, mark smiling as he handed his daughter off to dance with her new uncle

little layla buried her head into cillian's shoulder as my wish started to play as the two started to sway back and forth, layla secure in her uncle cillian's arms. cillian smiled as he rested his chin on layla's head, neither of them saying anything. just deciding to enjoy the slow dance moment to the song that was now going to always be categorised as theirs and only theirs as layla grows up.

"you like the surprise layla?" cillian whispered in a sweet baby voice to his niece as he leads them off the dance floor so everyone else could get their boogie wonderland on

nodding her head, layla smiled in contentment as a small yawn left her mouth as she then reached from her uncle cillian to her daddy cailean, "fank you unc cilly," layla whispered out as she closed her eyes to yawn again as she nuzzles in close to her daddy

"my pleasure layla. you were a perfect little dancer, i'll see you soon babe, you can have a nap now," cillian whispered back, giving the girl a light kiss to her head of hair as she closed her eyes, dozing off against her daddy's chest

after dancing with the other groomsmen, including his own bandmates, mark waltzed over to his new brother-in-law who had just left layla and cailean, "hey, cillian, that was really nice of you to dance with layla instead of me, not that you would've been uncomfortable with dancing with me but, yeah, thank you for giving her that moment," mark smiled as cillian smiled back with a nod of his head

"of course, mark. i was happy to dance with layla and give her a little moment. and, no, i would never be uncomfortable dancing with you just because of who you are and who you're dating. you know i'm not like that but, just to reassure you, if you do want to dance with me since we still have a couple of hours left until the venue closes, we could just shoot back some champagne and have a cheeky line dance together right now?" cillian chuckled at the end of his sentence as mark laughed as well, throwing his head back

"i mean, i wouldn't decline but, maybe we should get everyone else to join in with the line dance? cause i have been waiting for the day that i'd get to see my little sister do a line dance in her wedding dress," mark chuckled as cillian nodded his head in agreement

"alright, let's do it marky!" cillian and mark cheered and laughed as they rushed to the dance floor to do their said line dance, asking the dj to play the song footloose

ever since i could remember, i always dreamt of including my older brother mark in my wedding. and then later down the line, he met his beautiful partner cailean and the dream changed to including cailean in my wedding. and then, mark and cailean gave me the blessing of being an aunty to their little baby girl, layla. and again, the dream changed to including baby layla in my wedding. so, the moment cillian proposed and we started planning the wedding, we both agreed that no one else but mark would be the best man because, duh, he's my brother. and that was from the very beginning going to be his job in the wedding, no matter if it started a war between all the males in my family. and, i do have to say, mark was a brilliant best man, he didn't even hesitate to help cillian and i plan the wedding. and that was before cillian and i even surprised him by asking him to be cillian's best man. but, i think it was because he was just as excited for cillian and i to get married than we were. so, when it was "official" that mark was cillian's best man, he continued to do almost everything he could to ensure that cillian and i would be stress-free and have everything done the way we wanted it to be done. also from the very beginning, we decided that with our parents, cillian and mine, that we wouldn't have the mother/son or father/daughter dance. we decided to replace it with a brother/sister and an uncle/niece first dance after cillian and i's first dance. which is what you're seeing happen in the first photo, cillian had spun himself and me slightly towards the outskirts of the dance floor where i then walked over to where mark was and pulled him to the dance floor with me. for this moment of the reception, cillian and myself both picked out songs that were important in our relationship, mine with mark and cillian with little layla. the song i picked was dancing queen, the movie version because it's a song from mark and i's childhood and we were either always singing, dancing to it or watching the movie, there was no in-between. with cillian's song for layla, he had picked my wish by rascal flatts which is a very emotional song that once layla is old enough to understand, i'm sure she will appreciate and hold forever in her memory. so, seeing my husband and niece slow dance to such a meaningful song for two of the most important people in my life was an emotional moment that i am forever grateful it was able to happen. and this last photo was just a photo with me and layla since the photos of me and mark together still haven't been sent through. so, in conclusion, if you have siblings who have kids or your partner has siblings, make sure to include them in your reception, and it doesn't matter how old they are. whether they are a part of the bridal/wedding party and you do a special dance with them or whatever, just, include them. because it will mean the absolute world to them and it'll for sure be something they'll look back on at their own wedding if you have younger siblings or young nieces and nephews when they have their own. mark, cailean and layla, cillian and i love you so much and we are so thankful that you three were at our wedding and that you, mark, were such an amazing best man for cillian!

i just realised that all of my mark fics that aren't within the grouped westlife ones are all brother/sister fics! but i don't hate it either cause that means i don't have to create someone entirely new for mark and i can just always have him dating cailean if i'm too lazy!
