Sitting down to expand my fierce corpse!NMJ AU and turn it into an actual fic for nieyao week with some Hexperos on the background while there's a raging thunderstorm going on feels like the epitome of gothic culture. Pre-teen me would be amazed that this is the kind of thing that I do at 23

I started cackling in the dead of the night while in bed cause yes, we ARE like that. The Spanish Literature Department in my university is run by a Chemistry professor because years ago, two professors had a fist-fight after a disagreement on Federico García Lorca and went to court due to the injuries they gave each other. After that, the department has been so divided it was left in shambles and they had to get someone completely alien to the situation to run the department.
people who don't know anything about academics: man y'all are stuffy and boring what's up with that? actual academics: *too busy fist-fighting each other over the beryllium problem or the existence of a dentistry profession in ancient egypt to reply*

This made so weak and soft-hearted and reminded me of a similar moment that we had at my city’s pride protest. We were nearly at the end of it when a couple and their toddler went out to the balcony and started waving at us and chanting some of our revindications. Mind you we were a group of a few thousand people rallying with clearly anti-capitalist, anti-colonialist, anti-terf rhetoric chants. Ours was not a happy parade but an angry protest for the current state of affairs. And seeing that family and their toddler cheering for us when we had been stared down in other parts of the city while marching felt amazing.

I haven't seen this circulating here on Tumblr, so I decided to make my own post.
last saturday, in Porto, there was a pride parade going down the street and this old man was standing there, by his front door, waving the portuguese flag. most people on the parade probably thought the same: old person waving the national flag? he's probably protesting against the parade, he's a nationalist of some sort.
then the old man called for that person to come near him. the whole parade stopped. everyone just.. stopped moving. they didn't know what to expect, and most expected the worst. and that person decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and approached the old man. and then... they traded flags, he hugged the person and then he waved the pride flag happily. everyone cheered him.
such a wholesome moment. 🥹❤️🌈
