crying and screaming and throwing up at the thought of Tomoko and Mariya's mother being co-workers. They're pretty much gossip buddies and hang around each other any free time given at the office, the occasional company dinner and so. So when Mariya's mother (I'm thinking Mayumi since that and Tomoko were popular names in the 70s and theyre around the same age) sees Mariya and Josuke out in public. She automatically goes to them and questions who the 'handsome young boy her daughter's with' and 'if he was her boyfriend' - only to get embarassment from Mariya trying to deny those claims and that Josuke was a friend at school.
Once he introduces himself, Mayumi gets estatic and tells him that she works with his mother and that it's such a happy coincidence. Telling him to please watch over her rowdy daughter since she was similiar to Mayumi in her youth.
The next time she's at work, Mayumi goes straight to Tomoko and starts gossiping about their children.
"I saw them getting ice cream together~ Do you think they're dating~? What if we became in-laws~!"
Tomoko going home and pinching Josuke by the ear.
"You better not fool around. Mayumi is one of my dearest coworkers, if you break Mariya's heart I'll kick your ass."
Mothers just embarassing their children about their very obvious developing feelings for each other.

I Headcanon Sojiro from my Shimada coffee au really loves 80’s-90s J-pop.
Like I just imagine it fits him so well, him out on the small balcony above his cafe, shirtless on a hot summer night, having a smoke and occasionally staring back through the glass sliding doors to make sure his sons are still asleep, tired but wanting to just have a moment to himself before he finally goes to bed while ‘Stay with me’ by miki matsubara plays or even ‘tsuki no le’ by Akino Arai. ‘4am’ by Taeko Onuki would work too but on nights when he’s especially upset.
Or him up late after counting the tills and doing the books for the cafe, the kids are asleep, he’s struggling to stay awake doing the dishes and cleaning the house and he thinks Jack and Gabe are still off on a mission only for them both to to come home early and greet him with gentle hands sliding around his waist and soft kisses to his neck and cheek while one ushers him to bed and the other stays to finish the dishes before joining them all the while something like ‘Midnight pretenders’ by Tomoko Aran or maybe even something like ‘Plastic Love’ by Mariya Takeuchi.
I dunno I just think the soft gentle nighttime citycore sounds fit him nicely. I see him as a very tough on the exterior, fragile on the inside type of man whose now finally beginning to crack and come to terms with how messed up his life was. He’s trying but he’s so stressed and the music just makes him calm or fits his personal aesthetic perfectly! ~Bambi

Does Y/N have any favorite Japanese (music) artist she likes to listen to?
Hmmmm, I feel like she'd like 80-90s Japanese musicians a lot. Like Taeko Onuki or Mariya Takeuchi for City Pop Classics.

Citypop, but Korean and one of its great representatives
I'm sure that thanks to the TikTok app many of us listened to the song "Stay with Me" by the late Miki Matsubara and thanks to this many people got closer to City Pop, but what exactly is City Pop? It is a subgenre of j-pop that was very popular in the prosperous Japan of the 80s, mixing dance pop, funk, soul and even a touch of jazz, giving us a feeling of nostalgia in times when some of us were not even born and making us imagine office workers leaving work to then go dancing in a nightclub in the night city of Tokyo or even imagine parties on the beach, all with a cheerful theme. Some of the most important representatives of City Pop are Tatsuro Yamashita who is considered a pioneer of this genre, followed by his wife Mariya Takeuchi with her most famous song "Plastic Love", the already mentioned Miki Matsubara, Tomoko Aran, Anri (one of my favorite singers), Taeko Onuki and Momoko Kikuchi, among others.
In recent years it can be perceived that this genre is coming back and going viral with origin possibly in Youtube searches and recommendations generating a completely different world to new listeners. Thanks to this trend and musical influence, other countries are adopting this genre using the nostalgic 80's happy rhythms, among those countries is South Korea that mixes elements of the past and contemporary adding their own unique touch, influencing famous kpop stars and groups such as f(x) ("All Night"), Wonder Girls with their album "Reboot" (highly recommended), CLC ("Where are you? "), Sunmi ("pporappippam"), Red Velvet ("Ladies Night"), Shinee ("1 of 1"), Twice ("Say Something"), among others.
Recently a not very well known artist is giving much to talk about for beginning of this album she makes us evident her arrival at Gimpo airport in South Korea (I found it emotional and hopeful). The singles that complete this album also take us back in time, being considered by some as a cult piece for City Pop fans. My recommended songs from this album are: "Cherries Jubiles", ''SHADE”, ''Neon”, ''SOUL LADY" and "I FEEL LOVE".
This year again she charms us with her first mini album "timeabout" with a total of 6 songs including her main track "Insomnia" following this method of using synthesizers, guitars with simple riffs and a clear advance in the quality of Yukika's voice, she even gave us a dance practice of her main track. My recommended songs from this album are: "Love Month", "PUNG!", "Insomnia" and "TIME TRAVEL".
I wish with all my strength that Yukika will be more recognized because through her works it is evident the talent she has. Bonus: Today, September 20, a new single "Loving You" has just been released for you to check out.
And as a last recommendation in this Korean City Pop space, I recommend iconic songs of this movement, “Lady” by Yubin, “We ride” by Brave girls, “See You Again” by Yerin Baek, “& New” by Eyedi (very little known) and also a producer and singer called Bronze, last year he released his studio album "Aquarium" where he literally saves my year 2020, he has a collaboration with Yukika and LUNA, among others.
I leave you also my playlist where you will find a compilation of good Korean City Pop.
