Good Morning Gentle Reader….  Windy this morning as we leave the house for the first walk of the day.. shutter are rattling, blinds that haven’t been pulled tight are slapping and straining as the wind gets under the cover.. more like a fall morning than almost summer, but the skies are clear and full of heavenly bodies and the temperature is mild.. 17c and climbing later in the day to 26c … the beaches are pristine, the chiringuitos will be open for food and drinks, the street sweepers are busy doing what they do and with the walk over I am going to do what I do… Write… Have a great day…
NEW JERSEY 'MYSTERY POOPER' WAS SCHOOLS CHIEF, SAY POLICE…. Police say they have got to the bottom of the "mystery pooper" investigation. Police hunting a suspect who relieved himself on school grounds "on a daily basis" in the US state of New Jersey have arrested a top education official. Kenilworth school superintendent Thomas Tramaglini, 42, was detained after investigators set up a sting operation to snare the "mystery pooper". Police were called after students complained of frequent excrement near their school running track and field. Mr Tramaglini is charged with lewdness, littering and defecating in public. In a statement, the Holmdel Township Police Department said they opened an investigation after high school staff and sports coaches reported "they were finding human faeces, on or near the area of the High School track / football field on a daily basis". According to local media, the superintendent lives about three miles (4.8km) from the Holmdel High School in Monmouth County, 40 miles from New York City. On Monday at 05:50 local time (09:50 GMT), officers approached the superintendent while he was running at the school track, the scene of the alleged crime. Mr Tramaglini, who earns nearly $150,000 (£110,000) per year as head of the local education authority, was arrested. Police officers said they had just observed him in the act. Vito Gagliardi, a lawyer for the school board, told APP.com that Mr Tramaglini has been "highly regarded" during his three years as head of the local schools.
HAWAII TO BAN CERTAIN SUNSCREENS HARMFUL TO CORAL REEFS…. Hawaii has become the first US state to pass a bill banning the sale of any sunscreens that have chemicals known to harm coral reefs. The bill bars the sale of sunscreens containing chemicals oxybenzone and octinoxate, which some scientists say contribute to coral bleaching. The chemicals are used in over 3,500 of the most popular sunscreen products. The bill, which would take effect in 2021, now awaits the signature of Democratic Governor David Ige. Democratic Senator Mike Gabbard introduced the bill, which proposes to end the sale of any non-prescription sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate, statewide. Mr Gabbard told the Honolulu Star Advertiser that if the governor signs the bill, it would become "a first-in-the-world law". "Hawaii is definitely on the cutting edge by banning these dangerous chemicals in sunscreens," Mr Gabbard said. "This will make a huge difference in protecting our coral reefs, marine life, and human health."
GERMAN RAPPERS IN ANTI-SEMITISM LYRICS ROW TO VISIT AUSCHWITZ…. Two rappers whose lyrics about the Holocaust provoked an outcry in Germany have accepted an invitation to visit the death camp, reports say. Farid Bang and Kollegah are set to make the trip to Auschwitz in June, although the date has not been confirmed. The duo were awarded Germany's most prestigious music prize last month despite complaints about their lyrics. Prosecutors have opened an investigation into allegations of hate speech by the German rappers. The controversy surrounding Farid Bang and Kollegah centres on two lines in their latest album JBG3 (Young, brutal, good looking 3). One track includes the words: "My body is more defined than those of Auschwitz inmates." Another has the lyric: "I'm doing another Holocaust, coming with the Molotov." The decision by Germany's music industry (BVMI) to hand the rappers the Echo prize in the hip-hop/urban category led to immediate condemnation from artists across the country. The response prompted the industry to scrap the Echo awards completely as a damaged brand. One of the most prominent critics of the award was rock singer Marius Müller-Westernhagen, who said he would be handing back the seven Echos he had won since the 1990s. He suggested at the weekend that the two rappers should pay a visit to the memorial at Auschwitz-Birkenau. "It's not just a matter of two young rappers who said something stupid and are now quite rightly getting clobbered for it," he said. "The problem is the brutalisation of society as a whole, and that's what needs to be talked about."
DAVID GOODALL: SCIENTIST, 104, BEGINS TRIP TO END HIS LIFE…. On Wednesday, 104-year-old scientist David Goodall bid farewell to his home in Australia to fly across the world to end his life. The lauded ecologist and botanist is not suffering from a serious illness but wishes to bring forward his death. Key to his decision, he says, has been his diminishing independence. "I greatly regret having reached that age," Dr Goodall said on his birthday last month, in an interview with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "I'm not happy. I want to die. It's not sad particularly. What is sad is if one is prevented." Assisted dying was legalised by one Australian state last year following a divisive debate, but eligibility requires a person be terminally ill. It is illegal in other states. Dr Goodall says he will travel to a clinic in Switzerland to voluntarily end his life. However, he says he resents having to leave Australia to do so.
LONDONDERRY MAN WAS DEALING HOME-MADE CANNABIS SWEETS…. A Londonderry man has been given a suspended sentence for making home-made, chocolate, cannabis sweets. Seamus Anthony Duddy, of Ardnomoyle Park, said he either sold the sweets for £4 each or gave them away free to friends. Duddy pleaded guilty at the city's Crown Court to five charges of supplying and possessing cannabis. The herbal cannabis confectionery was found when the police searched his car and his home on 4 March, 2017. The court was told the police stopped a car driven by Duddy in the Carnhill area of the city and noticed a strong smell of cannabis. Duddy was asked if he had drugs and he handed the police several bags of herbal cannabis. He also gave the police silver foil wraps which contained the 35 drug-infused chocolate sweets as well as £390 in cash. The police then searched Duddy's home where they found a number of empty clear bags, weighing scales and more herbal cannabis. In total the police found 70 grams of cannabis.
